                                Overcoming Negative Success Indicators

NAME: Katherine Delgado

Directions: Below, you will find a list of some of the most common negative success indicators
for students today. Develop at least two positive strategies to overcome each indicator.

Making excuses and blaming others:
1. You are responsible of your career or assignments.
2. Who is going to be prejudice is you, not you friends neither the professor. Get in mind that
who is paying and spending their time in classes is you and if you do something wrong
because you didn’t pay attention is your fault.

Tardiness (late for classes):
1. Get to school 15 minutes earlier, so you will be on time for classes and also you could
review the assignments.
2. Go to bed when you get sleepy never force yourself to be awake because that causes
fatigue and in consequence you will be late for classes.

Avoiding responsibility:
1. Let’s be realistic if you want to get a good grade and learn about the subject you have to do
your work. Don’t think that if you give all the work to one student you are going to learn
because that will never happen.
2. If you are in a group separate the assignment in the same responsibility for every student
and you will see that everyone would be able to answer and understand the material.

Partying over studying:
1. If you like to party, well finish your homework first and then enjoy.
2. Its preferable say “no” for a party invitation than getting a bad grade in class. When you
finish your career you are going to be able to party and do whatever you want.

Apathy:
1. If you don’t want to study please stop attending to class because if you don’t go to college
with a good attitude about what you love to study then you will never be successful.
2. Set your goals and see what you want to accomplish. Put all your love, emotion and
excitement in every class, you will see good results.

No focus or goals:
1. Your goals are now the most important thing or thought in your life.
2. Write your goals in a piece of paper, hang them in you room. Write them down in your
kitchen, car, bedroom so when you go in you will be always remind of what you have to
accomplish.
Pessimism:
1. You can do it, get out of your mind those bad attitude toward your goal. Say to yourself “I
can do it, no matter what I will be able to be a professional” that will help you understand that
everything in life is possible.
2. Always have a positive attitude towards everything and you will see better results.

Social isolation (shyness):
1. I’m shy, so I would try to talk more with my classmates.
2. Work in groups with people that are also shy so you can feel more comfortable.
