1. Overcoming Negative Success Indicators
NAME: Steven Santiago
Directions: Below, you will find a list of some of the most common negative success
indicators for students today. Develop at least two positive strategies to overcome each
indicator.
Making excuses and blaming others:
1. Listen and sit in front of the class so that you could have full attention to your
professor.
2. Ask questions in class so you could get a better knowledge of what’s going on.
Tardiness (late for classes):
1. Be on time a few minutes before class, the professor usually give important info on
class work.
2. Set a schedule so that you have your errands and school set on time accordingly.
Avoiding responsibility:
1. Get help from a professor or a guidance counselor, they should give you tips on how
to keep track.
2. Avoid going out all the time so you could have your mind more set on class.
Partying over studying:
1. Cut your parting time so that it could go along with your school schedule.
2. Plan the days you have assignments and free time.
Apathy:
1. Concentrate on the work you are doing, chart down notes which will help a lot.
2. Refocus so you could keep up with the class and worry about what you missed after.
No focus or goals
1. Set a goal for your school year and read it often so that it sticks with you throughout
the semester.
2. Listen to instructions from your professor, have an I-can-do-it-attitude.
Pessimism:
1. Think positive and have a positive attitude. It should help class go by and help with
better grades.
2. Have student give you feedback on school work and ask how your work could be
better.
2. Social isolation (shyness):
1. Ask your classmates questions, usually you end up speaking to them more often.
2. Join group activities which will give you more options to speak to others.
