1. 3. LEADER COMPETENCIES
The competencies that leaders need to have
depend on different factors, including:
Whether that person is leading one other
individual, a group or a large organization
The extent of leadership skills that person already
has
That person’s basic nature and values
Whether the group or organization is for – profit
or non-profit, new or long – established, and large
or small;
The particular culture of whomever is being led
2. • The competencies that leaders need to develop in
order to be effective can be categorized in
following ways
1. Leading Yourself
• To lead others firstly, we have to lead ourselves
• An important aspect of leadership is knowing
yourself
• Competencies required in this regard are the basic
one which other competencies rely on
• Such competencies relate to the inner world
dimension of a leader on which he/she stands on
to energize others

category, especially to lead groups and
organizations in modern society
• Confidence
• Sensitivity
• Tolerance of ambiguity
• Strategic thinking
• Creativity and innovation
• Continual learning

In general terms there are two types of people
from leadership perspective, namely, a leader
and follower
So, to lead others a leader needs to understand
the realities of people
At the same time a leader should have core
competencies by which he/she change
challenges into success
For that a leader needs to recognize group
processes or group dynamics for effectiveness

This refers to managing large group or various groups

case, is required to understand wider environmental
situations
