The document describes experiments Chelsea Kierans conducted to help with producing merchandise for her product. In the first experiment, she used drawing tools in Photoshop to create a cartoon version of a photo, coloring parts like the head, hair, nose, glasses and lips. Though initially frustrating, she got better with practice. In the second experiment, she used selection tools to cut out a model from a background photo for use in a poster. She focused on simplicity and kept the style basic so as not to confuse people. She plans to incorporate elements like unique colors, high quality images and different fonts in her final product.

2. Process
• First, I picked out a picture I thought would be easy to turn into a cartoon.
Then, I used the magnetic tool to make sure I got an accurate block colour of
the shape of his head and the colour of the skin. After this, I did the same to
his hair, his nose, his glasses and his lips. I tried to colour them as close to the
original picture as possible by using the colour dropper tool. This experiment
was frustrating to start with when I was trying to use the magnetic tool, but
once I figured out how to use it, I found it quite easy and fun to do. After this,
finally, I put it onto a t-shirt, as I will be making merchandise within my
product. This specific task will help me within my production as it will give me
ideas as to hot to put things onto a T-shirt and what looks right on it. It also
gave me an idea of how to put things onto a T-shirt so I wouldn’t be messing
around for ages whilst in my most important stage of working, which would be
my production period.

3. Process
First, I looked for high quality images on google of a model,
that had a simple or plain background, to make it easier to
cut her out of it. I used the magic wand tool, this is a good
tool to use as it selects a large area at one time, and this
saves time compared to using just the eraser or the magnetic
lasso. Sometimes the magic wand tool selects too much, so
you have to use the plus and minus within the tool to select
bits I didn’t want to keep and deselect bits that I did want to
keep. For the experiment I just used fonts that I found on
Photoshop because I wanted to play around with positioning,
layout and colours more than the font itself. For my
production, I will look around online for different more
exciting fonts, to be more creative and fun within my project.
My research helped me with my experiment as from the
surveys that were taken by my target audience, the
information I took from these was that my target audience
was age 14-19 so I looked for a model that could represent
that age graphic so that my audience could feel like they
could relate to the model on the poster. I kept the overall
style of the poster quite simplistic, to make sure it isn’t too
busy and wont confuse anyone with the information given. I
will do this within my production to ensure simplicity and to
make sure no one is confused by the poster that I produce.

4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your
final product?
– I will use colours and the magnetic tool to produce something
unique and different to what you would normally see on an
album cover/single art. This is so it will entice my target
audience, as they like things that are unique and different as
well as simplistic, bright and considered quite ‘cool’ to this age
group.
– I will be looking for high quality images, to make sure that my
poster looks professional and good. I will be looking for different
fonts online to make sure I am more creative and so that they
will be a bit more unique than anything else as they wont be as
easy to find. I will be keeping my posters simple but effective to
make sure there is no confusion as to what information is being
given.
