 Lesson 1 Review page 24 for Friday
 Worksheet distributed to you as review for
tomorrow
 Taxonomists use different classification tools
 A dischotomous key is a table that allows to
identify the species. To use a dischotomous
key we need to answer questions about the
organism.
 Cladogram is a classification tool that looks
like a family tree.
 First Review the Lesson Content
 Voice level 0 in the first part as I’ll be asking
people to answer
 This will count towards your participation
grade
 Then Practice individually and in groups
 What is science ?
 It is the investigation and exploration of
natural events
 What are the branches of science ?
 Life Science,Earth Science and Physical
Science
 Give an example of each one
 Life : Cells,Earth Science :
Earthquakes,Physical : motion of stars
 What is the scientific method (scientific
inquiry)?
 Steps to do science
 1)Ask Questions/Observe Nature
 2)Create a Hypothesis (Possible explanation)
 3)Test the Hypothesis (Using Experiment)
 4)Analyze Results (Statistics)
 5)Draw conclusions (confirm or reject
hypothesis)
 6)Communicate Results (Oral or Written)
 What are the results of science ?
 Technology(practical use of scientific
knowledge) and explanations of the world
 What is a scientific theory ?
 An explanation of events based on many
hypotheses
 What is a scientific law ?
 A pattern in nature (like pen falling down)
 What is critical thinking ?
 Using logic before accepting statements.
 When do we use critical thinking in science ?
 To make the difference between academic
and non-academic sources.
 Give an example of an academic source and a
non-academic source
 Academic : textbook,non-academic : celebrity
magazines
 Expectations are :
 Voice level 0,work on your own
 Listen carefully to the instructions
 Answer on the worksheet given to you
 Raise your hand and wait for me to come for a
question
 You should be focused and on task
 I will be going around to help you
 Why do we measure in science ?
 To obtain evidence
 Is a measurement a description or an
explanation ?
 It’s a description
 What is the definition of description ?
 Summary of observations
 What is the definition of explanation ?
 An interpretations of observations, give the
reason.
 What is the International System of Units ?
 Internationally accepted system for
measurement
 What is the abbreviation we use for
International system of units ?
 S.I
 Why do we use the S.I system of units ?
 To avoid confusion between scientists in
different countries
 What are the S.I Base Units ?
 There are 7,summarized in this table
 What are some prefixes we studied in science
?
 Mega for million,Kilo for thousand etc.
 What is accuracy ?
 When the measurement is close to the real
value
 What is precision ?
 When measurements are close to each other
 Are some tools more accurate than other ?
 Yes
 Is the only source of error in measurement
the tool ?
 No,human error too.
 What are significant digits ?
 Number of digits in a measurement that are
accurate in a measurement
 If we have more significant digits, does it
mean the measurement is more accurate?
 Yes
 Expectations are :
 Voice level 2,work with peers on your table with a
quiet voice
 Listen carefully to the instructions
 Answer on the worksheet given to you
 Raise your hand and wait for me to come for a
question
 You should be focused and on task
