what is research.
Yes, my dear students! It’s all about
research.

let’s learn on Television!

hope you are doing fine!
Before we begin, I need you to
relax and feel comfortable.
(PAUSE) We will be learning

Our first lesson is about, What is
research.
In this lesson, you are expected to
share your knowledge and
experiences in research.
Yes, my dear learners, you might
already be doing research without
knowing it!

12. First, let me ask you what is
research? Any idea? (PAUSE)
Okay,
Most students get scared when
they hear about research. But do
not worry! That is why we need to
learn what it is because fear
comes from the unknown.
Do you agree? (PAUSE) wonderful!

13. Every day we encounter various
problems in any aspects of life be
it social, political, environmental
and personal.
It may link between persons,
groups, or an organization.
(PAUSE) In this case, there must
be a solution not only to resolve it
but it can be a progress where
everybody can benefit from it.
(PAUSE)

14. As a learner how can you find a
solution to these problems that is
based on knowledge
and not on ordinary beliefs,
predictions or theories? (PAUSE)
That’s right! You need to do
research!

15. In your junior high school, you
learned that research is essential
because it will enable you to find
solutions to problems especially
in real life situations.
Again, why is research essential?
(PAUSE) Correct!
Research will enable you to find
solutions to problems!

16. Research is asking what you know
and think.
Research helps us to inquire on the
right information to improve the
quality of man’s life. Not only that,
when you share your experiences
and knowledge on research, you also
develop your skills to think
critically and relate it in every
decision you do!
Isn’t that great?

17. Research develops in you, an
attitude to not believe everything
is easily available and always
inquire for the truth. (PAUSE)
Now my dear students, Inquiry is
defined as “a seeking for truth,
information or knowledge”.
Inquiry is synonymous with the
word investigation but it has a
deeper meaning.

18. It is a systematic examination
of a certain event or
phenomenon.
Again, although inquiry and
investigation may have the
same meaning, investigation
is much deeper than inquiry
because it employs a
systematic examination of a
certain event or phenomenon.

19. Then, a researcher immerses himself
in the data gathering activities
where the data he has gathered is
then carefully read or examined by
him in detail.
When we say immerse, it means
deeply involved.
That’s right students, the researcher
starts to inquire or ask about a
problem, then investigates or
examines the problem.

20. After that, he immerses himself in
the data gathering and data
analysis. Combining the idea of
“inquiry”, “investigation” and
“immersion”.
The concept of “research” comes
in. Again, Inquiry(PAUSE) plus
investigation(PAUSE)
plus immersion (PAUSE) equals
research!

21. Okay! Now that you now know what
research truly is.
Can you recall a time when you had a
question about a problem? (PAUSE)
Did you investigate about it? (PAUSE)
Did you immerse yourself in gathering
the data to come up with an
appropriate solution?
(PAUSE) If you answered yes to all the
questions, Congratulations! You are a
researcher!
