 What is the function of a microscope ?
 To magnify the image (Make it bigger)
 What is the main part of a microscope that
makes it work ?
 The lens. It focuses light. (Also found in
glasses)
 What is a lens ?
 It’s an optical device that changes the
direction of light.
 Based on the following diagram, what are the
types of lenses ?
 What is the difference between a concave and
a convex lens ?
 They have different shapes. One of them
concentrates light and the other spreads it.

  • 2.  Answer on your notebook  5min  Individual/no discussions (Voice level 0)  Not graded but is counted with participation  Questions : 1) What are some components of microscopes ?  2) Why do we need to be careful when using microscopes ?
  • 3.  WALT :Give back graded assessments and go over correction  Review concepts of lesson 3  Do introduction to lab on microscopes  WILF : Be responsible when using a microscope to avoid breaking it  TIB :Scientists are able to study much smaller things than the human eye can see and the use of microscopes is crucial.
  • 4.  Target behavior of the month is being focused AND on time  Quiz 3 on Friday 5th October : Review Lesson 1 and 2 of Chapter 1 (8-24)  Next office hours are today after school (Bring questions)  All these powerpoint slides are on Engrade in discussions

  • 6.  Before I give you the copies, Here are the assessment expectations :  I will show you the correction, you need to be silent and follow the correction to know what you did wrong.
  • 7.  The corrected quiz as well as rubrics will be posted on Engrade.  An individual assesment means no discussion at all. Any talking will result in a 0.  If you missed a quiz/test, you have to come to office hours to retake it.  Come see me right after class or office hours to discuss your copy, do not bring it up inside class.  Any copy written in pencil cannot be considered for re-grading, use a pen.

  • 12.  What is a lens ?  It’s an optical device that changes the direction of light.  Based on the following diagram, what are the types of lenses ?
  • 13.  What is the difference between a concave and a convex lens ?  They have different shapes. One of them concentrates light and the other spreads it.
