Writing Style Analysis Essay
Introduction Understanding the various modes and methods of writing is important in academic
writing. The following essay will describe, examine, and analyze the methods of three peer reviewed
journal articles from the International Journal of Work, Health, Organizations, specifically addressing
work and stress.
Describe Journal Writing Style The publications within the journal selected show a specific writing
style throughout all the articles selected. The writing style that was presented in these articles was a
formal style of writing. A formal style of writing can be classified as academic writing that presents a
certain structure that is to be followed. For instance, these articles presented an abstract to provide an
overview to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of the publication of these journal articles is presented on three levels. First, the authors
present the background information on the topic to gain an understanding of the topic. Secondly, the
authors present their ideas by conducting a study on the topic selected. The studies presented are
topics that are occasionally discussed or researched so the authors of this journal shed light on these
areas. The final level of structure that the authors present is a discussion and conclusion of their
results. This final level of the articles presents ways for the intended audience to incorporate the
findings in their practice or encourage the audience to pursue further research within the topic. For
example, Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, and Masoura (2014), present in their conclusion
how there are limited studies on burnout in correlation with cognitive impairment and introduce ideas
for future research. In addition, the articles provided practical implications for management to use
within high stress work environments to support their employees (Pindek Spector, 2016; Michailidis
Banks, 2016).
Analyze Journal Writing connection to Student Writing The writing presented in the journal articles
showe one strong connection to the writings I submit within the classrooms of Capella University. The
major connection is the use of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
(APA) is used. Using APA provides the overall structure of an author s writing. These articles used
headings, references, and citations throughout their work. I use these three elements consistently,
because it allows my work to be organized and my ideas supported based on other journals related to
the same topic.

The Effect Of Glucose On The Formation Of Furanoid...
Glucose D glucopyranose or, more commonly, D glucose is an aldohexose, a reducing sugar and a
component of sucrose, lactose, cellulose, and starch; the latter is typically used as the primary material
for the commercial production of glucose via enzymatic hydrolysis (de Wit et al. 1993). Glucose is the
primary component for the manufacture of alkyl polyglucosides, D glucitol, gluconic acid, and high
fructose corn syrup; in fact, D glucose can undergo a fermentation process to produce L ascorbic acid,
from D glucitol, as well as polyesters, polyurethanes, and alkyd and melamine resins. Moreover, D
glucose can form pyranoid, furnaoid, and acyclic tautomers (Lichtenthaler and Peters 2004). This
tautomeric form must be fixed to help facilitate subsequent reactions such for the formation of
furanoid diacetonide, acyclic dithio acetal, pyranoid structures, in glucosidic forms, and glucal or
hydroxyglucal esters. Furthermore, an acetylacetone reaction with D glucose, with intercession from
ZnCl¬¬2, forms highly substituted furan derivatives. Since only the first two D glucose carbons
participate in the furan formation, a hydrophilic tetrahydroxybutyl side chain also forms, which can be
oxidized to yield a selection of furanic building blocks. In comparison, D glucose can react with
pentane 2,4 dione, in a moderately basic environment, to cause carbon addition, followed by a
retroaldol style elimination of acetate. Considering that this reaction uses simple reagents in an

Analysis of the Film Thelma and Louise Essay
1. Definition of the catalyst of the film Thelma and Louise
The catalyst moment in the screenplay is when Louise shoots Harlan. The incident, when Harlan is
assaulting Thelma, set the first dramatic moment. This major event is the twist that provokes the
action to escalate to the next act. In outrageous behavior, with suppressed feelings about her past,
Louise relapses. She defends her friend, and at the same time, reacts to the memories of abuse she
suffered, consequently, making justice for both.
2. Why is this the catalyst, and how does it serve the story?
This catalyst is set up to promote tension, which shows Louise s behavior, while awakening Thelma is
from her ordinary reality as a housewife. At that moment that Louise shoots ... Show more content on

Sad endings, like Thelma and Louise s story, is now proving to be exceptional, because their journeys
were exhausting. There were valuable messages broadcasted throughout the acts.
However, the most important message was the importance of friendship, with the development of an
unbreakable bond, love, and trust between two friends. This is a story of two women with a keen
desire to encourage one another and beautifully inspired many others in the process.
Act One: The Weekend Trip
The desire to escape reality to have fun is the dominant intentional plan. The simple gateway plans to
stay at a Louise manager s cabin for the weekend. The major foreshadowing in the first act is when
Thelma puts a gun in her purse for protection. The first plot is when Harlan attacks Thelma, at the
parking lot, and she resists his advances. Harlan aggressively slaps her. She asks him to stop, but
instead he hits her, and proceeds to rape her. Next, Louise shows up and points the gun at him, and
Thelma walks away with Louise. Then, Harlan makes some remarks; Louise turns around and shoots
him.
Act Two: Running Away
They are alarmed by the incident. They are no longer having fun; instead, they are concerned about
being found guilty of a murderer, a crime committed in self defense. They decide to run away and
accept their

Introduction. Among The Living Writers Of India There Is
Introduction Among the living writers of India there is hardly any parallel to the formidable creative
genius of Bhalchandra Nemade. He is a novelist, a poet and a distinguished critic. The impact of his
original thinking and the force of his powerful argument on the contemporary literary and intellectual
life of India is unparalleled in recent history. His greatest contribution to Indian literary criticism is his
theory of Nativism. As a literary critic he has been passionately advocating it. As a creative writer he
has demonstrated how theory can be brought into practice. Hence his novels like Kosala Bidhar Hul
Jhul Jarilaa and Hindu can be best described as experiments in Nativism. Most of Nemade s critical
ideas have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discussion: Nemade s Attack on Bogus Internationalism Before defining his concept of nativism and
its need in literature and criticism, Nemade comes down heavily on the hollow and bogus
internationalism pursued by Indian writers and critics before and after independence. He admits the
fact of cultural imperialism that hampers our growth as a confident society, nation and culture. ...West
may not be there, but it is very much there in the mind of the East, and that cultural imperialism does
exist. (Nemade, 2009: 10) Nemade expects us to look into our own tradition to form our own
standards to judge the quality of a literary work. He laments the fact that in our times Indian writers
and critics by and large suffer from West worship mania. There is tendency in India to accept all that is
Western as modern, standard and progressive. Such a tendency often leads to blind acceptance of
Western norms in art, literature, culture, politics, media, fashion etc. Funnily enough such a tendency
is mistakenly equated with cultivation of international consciousness. The tendency of West worship
simultaneously leads to looking down upon everything native. As a result those who talk about the
worth and value of things native are branded as regressive and fundamentalists. Nemade makes it
clear that nativism is opposed to fundamentalism. We need to correct our faulty notions of being
modern and international,

Public Diplomacy And The Foreign Affairs Of The Republic...
Working for government we can t distinguish specific industry that it function in. Governments take
care of varieties issues that are important for country and its society. As an industry in this specific
environment I would call it public diplomacy industry. Public diplomacy pursued by the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs consists of a set of strategic, conceptual, analytical, coordinating and executive actions
seeking to impact social attitudes and public opinion abroad and thereby to secure the principal
interests of the Republic of Poland across the globe. This is done by using tools and methods from
outside the realm of traditional diplomacy, essentially confined to intergovernmental relations. The

History In 1822, when Brazil won its independence, Poland did not exist on maps of the political
world. In the years 1795 1918 the Polish lands were occupied countries by neighboring countries
Russia, Austria and Prussia. The struggle for independence, taken by another generation of Poles,
reflexes elicited sympathy of many societies, including Brazilian. Emperor of Brazil, Peter I, during a
performance in Paris, issued in favor of participants of the November Uprising (1831), he exclaimed:
Vive la Pologne! It ts successor in turn, Peter II, agreed to accept the membership of Polish émigré
patriotic associations based in Rapperswil, Switzerland, which certifies todays diploma awarded by
the Société Nationale des Amis et Polonaise de la Pologne. In the year1907 at the Second International
Peace Conference in The Hague, the representative of Brazil Ruy Barbosa, a prominent lawyer and
politician, in his fiery speeches repeatedly advocated the restoration of Poland s independence. Not
surprisingly, that Brazil was the first country in Latin America, which announced that it recognizes the
emergence of a united and independent Polish . The position of these was presented August 17, 1918
year note Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Nilo Peçanhi the French envoy in Rio de Janeiro, Paul

normalization, by the society they live in, of the way these women are treated goes hand in hand with
the way men seem to discard them so easily, because in Song of Solomon the women are the ones who
get left behind. Morrison tries to break the stereotypical characterization of the women s dependency
on men, for instance by creating characters like Pilate who are more than capable to break free.
In the novel it is noticeable that some of the women are those who seem to be unable to fly and suffer
the most at the hand of the characters who are able. They are trapped in their marriages, crushed by
heavy burdens and try to survive day by day. (Morrison, 1977) Some women seem to be grounded and
trapped on earth. They are obsessive and rely on the safe and familiar places they have known their
whole lives , for instance Ruth Foster Dead, she is milkman s mother and the daughter of the first
negro doctor in town. (Morrison, 1977) Ruth has been mentally abused by her husband and lives a
loveless existence, against one s better judgment, Ruth stays married to Macon Dead II. She knows

Should Photojournalism or Documentary Photography Be...
A photograph is not merely a substitute for a glance. It is a sharpened vision. It is the revelation of
new and important facts. ( Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History. ). Sid Grossman, a Photo League
photographer expressed this sentiment, summarizing the role photography had on America in the 1940
s and 50 s. During this era, photojournalism climaxed, causing photographers to join the bandwagon
or react against it. The question of whether photography can be art was settled a long time ago. Most
major museums now have photography departments, and the photographs procure pretty hefty prices.
The question of whether photojournalism or documentary photography can be art is now the question
at hand. Art collectors are constantly looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He felt that FSA photographers used stylistic elements such as sharp focus, even lighting, and frontal
composition to mark their images as factual and that they should be read as unbiased. He felt that the
work should be described as documentary style.
American photographers of the late 1950 s and 60 s reinvented the documentary tradition.
Photographers like Diane Arbus, Garry Winogrand, and lee Friedlander looked at the world through
the astonish me viewpoint. Diane Nemerove, or better known as Diane Arbus, was an American
Documentary Photographer known for her compelling, yet often disturbing portraits of people from
the edges of society. An example is the 1962 image of The Boy with the Hand Grenade in Central
Park. As a native New Yorker, Diane Arbus photographed the people of the city, but not just the
everyday. Arbus sought out those at the edge of society. She depicts the daily life, but with an
emphasis on the abnormality of the commonplace. When looking at the image of the boy in 1962, the
child seems no different from other children; his facial expression communicating a frustration beyond
the specific image. You see a boy with the strap of his shorts awkwardly hanging from his shoulder,
with his arms tense and his hands clenched in frustration; a toy replica hand grenade in his

Balance Is One Thing I Did Not Have My Sophomore Year Of...
Balance is one thing I did not have my sophomore year of college. I struggled due to a multitude of
things and did not find my way out till it was already too late. That fall was my first semester with
numerous difficult classes, my first year being completely active in my sorority, I was co captain of
the dance team, had my first job, and my first boyfriend. The semester started fine with my classes
being challenging but nothing I did not think I could handle. Saying no to my sorority was a difficult
task so I took on two positions and later in the year, a third. These positions were immersive and
required me to be at almost all of our events, on top of planning some of them myself, and time at
home reporting to Delta Zeta National Headquarters about what our chapter was doing. Being trusted
with such big responsibilities made me feel special and like I was needed so I never saw it as a burden.
I was honored to be voted the co captain of the dance team and helped to choreograph dances and pick
out costumes and songs. The team looked to me when the captain was sick, which happened often due
to her ongoing health issues. I planned and held practice on numerous occasions but it was exercise
and something I enjoyed so again, nothing I could not handle. Working part time was also rewarding
with receiving a real paycheck for the first time. I only worked on weekends which allowed me to fit
my job into my schedule. My boyfriend and I were doing great, we made space in our

There are many different types of aboriginal rituals. There are rites of passage, rituals celebrating the
ancestral spirits, rituals for the maintenance of natural species, rituals of reconciliation and healing and
harming rituals. These are usually preformed and celebrated in special places, such as where spirit
beings preformed the acts during the dreamtime. Initiation ceremonies, dance, corroborees and other
intertribal gatherings often took place in bora rings. The Kombumerri Aboriginal Corporation of
Culture is currently in control of the Jebbribillum Bora (appendix 6.1). Rituals usually consist of a

The opening chapter of the bible, known as the Genesis, begins with the words In the beginning God
created the havens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). The text tells us that the earth was formless, empty, and
dark. The Bible reveals that God made the world and all that is in it out of nothings. He spoke His
Word, and everything came into existence. According to Genesis 1, God created the earth in six days.
On the first day, God created the light. On the second day, He created the firmament called heaven. On
the third day, God created the dry land in the midst of the lower waters. On the fourth day, He created
the sun, the moon and the stars. One the fifth say, He created the fish and all the other living creatures

Grendel s Influence On The Role Of Christianity In Beowulf
In addition to the pagan beliefs, there are many Christian attributes that appear in the characters and
the plot. Beowulf, the main protagonist, is directly affected by the Christian God. God helps Beowulf
to have his physical appearance and he also helps him stay alive in the midst of danger. First and
foremost, let the Almighty Father be thanked for this sight...But now a man, with the Lord s
assistance, has accomplished something... (line 927 955). After Beowulf defeats Grendel, Hrothgar
proclaims that God, the Almighty Father, brought Beowulf back to them. The Christian God and not
the pagan gods were the reason that Beowulf was allowed to live. This inclusion of the one God
removed fate from the story because God controls everyone, including Beowulf s, life. ... Show more

Grendel is the main antagonist in Beowulf, and he is described as Cain s descendent, ...he had dwelt
for a time in misery among the banished monsters, Cain s clan... (line 104 106). This allusion to the
biblical story of Cain and Abel brings a reference point to Grendel s evil. The evil of Grendel is
comparable to killing one s brother, like Cain did (Genesis 4 NIV). Another example of Christianity is
the use of the Christ figure archetype. Beowulf has many attributes of a Christ figure, for example, he
is self sacrificial and also has twelve disciples, ...and was now added as the thirteenth to their number
(line 2407). Christ figures are described as having those two attributes and Beowulf is heavily
influenced by his sacrificial attribute where he places his own life above his people (Foster 119 120).
Christ figures are a huge part of Christianity because Christian leaders are believed to be Christ
figures and Beowulf is described as one. Overall, the Christian attributes in Beowulf, help to make the
story more civilized and tame than the original pagan

Swot Analysis Of Cadbury

Cadbury is the leading player in confectionery, with its Dairy Milk brand, as mentioned before,
accounting for over 13% of total confectionery value at the end of the review period overall. This
however wouldn t be possible without the company being highly visible in the mass media channels
with its tagline of kuch meetha ho jaye (let s have something sweet), consumer promotions and
flavorful malt based hot drinks brand Bournvita. Being the key innovator in packaged food in India,

Cadbury has unfortunately seen lack of penetration in the rural market where people tend to dismiss it
as a high end product, as the prices do range between standard and premium, never any less. The
reason for high prices is due some of the cocoa, a major ingredient, having to be imported, resulting in
several charges and a higher inventory. The company must also find solutions to natural conditions,
for example, heat. The majority of the markets in India are not air conditioned, hence cannot store
chocolates, at least during hot summers, which limits market access.
Industrial Production
Cadbury, beside many other companies, supply the local market through its local production units.
Cadbury India manages to practice this through five factories, located in Thane, Pune, Induri and
Malanpur in West India, and Baddi in North India. Cocoa, being a major raw material as discussed, is
not only imported but also procured mainly from local plantations in South India, in the states of
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The company, after manufacturing many of its
mouthwatering products exports them in bulk to Sri Lanka, Dubai, the US and the Maldives. The
positive outcome of this is that Cadbury India does not have to be involved in third party
manufacturing.

The importance of El Valle De Anton spurred the movement to create systems to preserve frogs

and ironically they were not disturb when the frogs started disappearing. When the corpses started to
pile up, the scientific community began to become concerned and began an effort to preserve the
golden frog species and what they found was that frogs from around the world had been plagued by
Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis batrachos (or Bd for short). This plague is very hard to stop, as we

information about children who are at risk of abuse or neglect. In some situations, sharing information

Comparison Of The Big Boy And Big Two-Hearted River By...
Nick Adams, a mentally and physically wounded individual, featured in Big Two Hearted River by
Ernest Hemingway, written in 1925, experiences an emotional journey through the process of fishing.
Whereas Big Boy, a black boy in Big Boy Leaves Home by Richard Wright and written only a decade
later in 1936, endures the racial tensions between blacks and whites in the South and the struggles Big
Boy encounters to ensure his survival. While some readers may claim that both short stories appear as
though there is a resolution or ending, there is a larger scope to both of the stories endings in which
the reader is not fully certain of the outcomes of Nick Adams and Big Boy. Therefore the endings are
suspended and leave the reader guessing. The suspended endings of both stories impress
differentiating after lasting emotions on the reader as the motives for which each main character heads
towards the cities diverge. Big Boy Leaves Home imparts a hopeful but skeptical ending perspective
due to the uncertainty if Big Boy is truly safer away from the South, whereas Big Two Hearted River
conveys a positivistic ending for Nick Adams as a Hemingway code hero his healing process. Big
Boy, an overgrown black teenager that lands himself in the crosshairs of racial prejudice after killing a
white man, struggles through multiple obstacles to escape the Deep South and head to the North. After
having spent the night in the kiln and fighting off a snake and a dog, Big Boy boards a truck headed
for, presumably, Chicago. However, Wright creates uncertainty for Big Boy s future even if he does
reach the North, let alone Chicago itself. Big Boy has no finances, no shelter, nor from the reader s
understanding, extended family outside of the South. At the end of the story, The truck sped over the
asphalt mines, sped northward, jolting him, shaking out of his bosom the crumbs of corn bread,
making them dance with the splinters and sawdust in the golden blades of sunshine (Wright 53). The
crumbs of the corn bread shaking out demonstrate the mental growth and emotional hardening that
Big Boy obtained from his life threatening situations the previous night but also as a symbol of
shaking out the last of home and starting

Political Campaign Comparison
When looking at these images I think of the original piece that these works are a reference to. For the
Obama hope poster I am reminded of the political campaign of him running and the photograph the
poster referenced. In the second and third poster I am reminded of the first poster as these are a parody
of sorts of it. The second poster has a portrait of the Joker from the batman series. The third is a
reference to Bill Clinton s sex scandal. The artist uses art appropriation to use an image that the
audience already knows. Since the audience is already familiar with parts of the image it becomes sort
of a parody. The audience can look at the piece and form their own judgements based on what they
think about these events. For example a person who was not a fan of Obama during his political run
would already have their views of Obama when they look at the hope poster. They may not see hope
as the correct word for him. So the audience is able to put their opinions with the image along with
looking at the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since we already know who the people are in the posters we already have part of the image created in
our minds about what the posters are about. The artist uses recognizable images and current events to
bring about political and cultural thoughts onto the image. The message is brought on by the words
and what is currently happening in the world. Each image is able to be shared by mass media and
becomes better known. These posters would not make sense if they were put out during a time without
the political effect. The hope poster would not make much sense if it was put out before Obama s
political campaign. Same with the grope poster it would not make sense if the sex scandal did not
happen. The second and third image surely would not make sense if the first poster was never made.
The joke poster would not be as recognizable if the Joker was not called The

Major Drug Companies Taking Hefty Price Increases Essay
NEW YORK (Reuters) Major drug companies took hefty price increases in the U.S., in some cases
more than doubling listed charges, for widely used medications over the past five years, a Reuters
analysis of proprietary data found.
Prices for four of the nation s top 10 drugs increased more than 100 percent since 2011, Reuters found.
Six others went up more than 50 percent. Together, the price increases on drugs for arthritis, high
cholesterol, asthma and other common problems added billions in costs for consumers, employers and
government health programs.
Extraordinary price hikes by two small companies, Turing Pharmaceuticals and Valeant
Pharmaceuticals International Inc , drew new attention to drug costs. Turing expected to book $200
million by raising the price of Daraprim, an antiparasitic used for a rare infection, by 5,000 percent,
according to company documents released by Congressional investigators.
Routine price increases by bigger players may draw less attention, but they add up. Sales for the top
10 drugs went up 44 percent to $54 million in 2014, from 2011, even though prescriptions for the
medications dropped 22 percent, according to IMS Health data.
At the top of the list was AbbVie Inc , which raised the price of arthritis drug Humira more than 126
percent, Reuters found. Next were Amgen Inc and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd , which raised
prices for arthritis treatment Enbrel and multiple sclerosis drug Copaxone by 118 percent.

Annotation Strategies
Hello Joy and Dr. Smith, There are two memory strategies mentioned in the book that I have already
been using: organization and elaboration strategies. Organization strategy is about sorting items to be
learned, while elaboration strategy is about looking for relationships of those items (Broederick
Blewitt, 2015). I believe that these strategies are very effective to enhance memory not only for
regular kids but also for special education and second language learners.
Using organization strategy, I always require my students to use their notebook to organize what they
have learned from a lesson. They could write or draw what they have learned. I model what they are to
write or draw, and then later allow them to represent what they have

Brush Fire Analysis
Writer , Linda Thomas, in her essay, Brush Fire, discusses the Santa Ana winds experienced in
Southern California and how it affects the people and the weather. Well known essayist , Joan Didion,
in her essay, The Santa Ana, describes the winds and the effects it has on the way the people behave.
Both Thomas and Didion s essays have a similar subject and circumstance, the Santa Ana winds but,
both essays vary in numerous ways. The details, tone, and how the message is being told are ways in
which both essays differ. These essays are an example of one topic being portray through different
lights.
In Brush Fire, Thomas begins to convey recollected memories of a day on which she experienced the
Santa Ana winds. She tells the details in chronological order starting from the moment she woke up
and ended in the present tense. Thomas stated, I know this because this morning I awoke to air so dry
that the graze of my nightgown against the down comforter created tiny orange sparks (Thomas).
Thomas ended with a different tense from which she began her essay. She said, We are here to watch
the orange flames color the sunset. (Thomas). She also included details that incite imagery while
talking about the environment of southern California by saying, Chaparral is gorgeously beautiful
from the crooked red brown wood... the sturdy shaft of yucca... with spikes of creamy blossom, to
brilliant orange threads of dodder vine. (Thomas). Didion also uses imagery but unlike Thomas,
Didion conveys the imagery using the future tense. Didion states, ... we will see smoke back in the
canyons, and hear sirens in the night (Didion). The difference in the way that both essays begin to
unfold resonate in the tense that is used. Tone plays an important role in how the message of each
essay is being conveyed. This tone of both essays is one way in which they differ. Thomas uses a
calm, poetic tone whereas Didion uses a more scientific and intellectual tone. Phrases in which the
tone of Thomas text is revealed includes, ... I smell the odours of burning sagebrush, I can also...
watch the flames lick up a hillside... a teenage couple... lost in embrace, passionate kisses no one
seems to notice. We are hear to watch the orange flames color the

Disney Movies And The Concepts Of Sexism In Disney Movies
Sexism is an arrangement of dispositions and practices towards individuals that judge or put down
them in the premise of their sex, or that sustain cliche suppositions about sexual orientation parts.
These days, the term is frequently used to allude to men s state of mind towards women, the mentality
doesn t generally need to be awful however. In the disney motion pictures the audience see today we
generally observe sexism towards women, since they are never ready to ensure themselves, but instead
we have the male character swoop in to allow her out, and this is the thing that surprises a few of the
audience when viewers see or discuss disney movies. Disney movies are full of sexist messages which
teach young girls to accomplish a submissive role in society such as Beauty and the Beast , Aladdin ,
and Snow white . Young girls have learned to admire the Disney princesses, and have even began to
look at them as the perfect role models to follow in order to achieve perfect lives. These disney
movies teach young girls that they need a male figure in their lives for them to fulfil their idea of a

Free Bowling Game Pass
Scotch Doubles Prize: Free Bowling Game Pass
How it Works
Bowler 1 throws the first shot in the first frame. If he strikes, the first frame is complete and his
teammate bowls the second frame. If Bowler 1 doesn t strike, Bowler 2 must get up to shoot the spare.
Bowler 1 would then throw the first shot again in the second frame.
It doesn t matter what the pin count from either bowler is throughout the game. It s as simple as the
two teammates alternating shots until the game is over.
To bowl a perfect 300 game in scotch doubles, each bowler will throw six of the strikes, alternating
each time.
Conversely, if Bowler 1 never strikes, then Bowler 2 will spend the entire game throwing at spares.
Not surprisingly, in almost every case, the order switches during the game. While it would be ideal for
teammates to simply alternate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bakers Team Prize: Bowling Pin Trophy
What is The Baker Format?
In a Baker Format game, you and your teammates will bowl toward one score. That is, rather than a
typical league format in which you and your teammates each bowl 10 frames and your team score is
the sum of each individual score, your entire team will combine to bowl 10 frames in a Baker match.
With five person teams, the first bowler will bowl frames 1 and 6. The second bowler will bowl
frames 2 and 7 and so on, with your fifth bowler bowling frames 5 and 10.
5 man teams per lane come up with a team name and enter that name as the bowler. Pick the order
each person will go. That will determine what frame each individual will bowl. Example: Bob, Sally,
Jane, Fred, and Mike. Bob will bowl the 1st and 6th frame, Sally will bowl the 2nd and 7th frame,
Jane will bowl the 3rd and 8th frame, Fred will bowl the 4th and 9th frame, and Mike will bowl the
5th and 10th frame.

Freudian Literary Analysis Of Doubt By John Patrick Shanley
Freudian(Psychoanalytical) Literary Analysis of Doubt
Doubt by John Patrick Shanley is about a nun who is entirely convinced that a priest had done
something inappropriate to one of the students and taken advantage of the fact that the student
(Donald Muller) is an African American. Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the nun, concluded that Father
Flynn, the priest, had been forcing Donald Muller to drink wine and molesting him. With the help of a
naive nun named Sister James, Sister Aloysius attempted to investigate her assumption of Father
Flynn s actions even if it meant contacting Donald s mother. Sister Aloysius is a stereotypical splenetic
Catholic School nun who believes that being an unsympathetic and oppressive person to the students
is the most effective method in order to make the students oblige to her commands. The literary theory
chosen for this literature work is the Freudian literary theory. Freudian literary theory is based on the
works of Sigmund Freud and workings of the mind and instinct as well as sexuality. The play Doubt
and Freudian literary theory can be related because Freud s work reveals the id, ego and superego and
how it affects a person. Id is a natural instinct. Ego ensures that the impulses of the id is expressed in
an acceptable behavior. Superego provides guidelines and morals for making judgments. (Brizee)
Sister Aloysius id desires to get rid of Father Flynn immediately. Her superego is diminished since she
lied to Father Flynn. Her ego is shown

Compare And Contrast Arranged Marriage And Arranged Marriages
When you think of arranged marriages you will probably have an image of a 16th to 19th century
picture going on in your head since that s when it was really common and normalize back then, but
that s not always the case because even now in modern times arranged marriages are still practiced
throughout other places and countries such as India, Japan, and China. Some keep up these old
traditions for their religious beliefs and others for their own personal reasons. As we step into modern
times though, a new type of forming a relationship has had an uprising for the past decade or so which
has come to be known as online dating. Some may feel like online dating is different from arranged
marriages and in a way it is but in many ways, online dating and arranged marriages have the same
structure just with fewer people involved.
Arranged marriages viewed by people with American standards will probably feel like those involved
in an arranged marriage are being forced into something they have no say in because their parents
want to marry them off to some stranger and while that may be the case for some, not many involved
feel that way. What many people do however is confuse forced marriages and arranged marriages as
the same thing when that is not the case and those with negative feelings towards arranged marriages
will always see those two types of marriage as the same thing. Forced marriage is a marriage in which
one or more of the individuals is married without his or her consent

ASPCAAdvertisement Analysis
Many ASPCA advertisements use a combination of different appeals to recruit people, specifically pet
owners, to donate to their important cause, which is saving and rescuing endangered, neglected, and
abused animals. The many different strategies that the ASPCA advertisements use are ethos, pathos,
logos, warm colors, a scene of a loving environment, images of animals in pain and hurting, and a
reward if their target audience does decide to help their cause. I think that this is an effective
advertisement due to all of the strategies that they do use. In this commercial it starts of with a sad
song performed by Sarah McLachlan, and a fact that every hour an animal is beaten or abused . This is
a very good attention getter using the appeal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because people will imagine that happening to their own loving pet and it pulls on their
heartstrings to help. People do not want to see animals, which are pets hurting like they are in this
commercial. They fear for these animals and want them to feel that love that they give to their own
animal. They use three different but major appeals in this as well, the first being logos. The
advertisement tells us that an animal is abused every hour. They used this so we could put it into
perspective just how often it happens. The next appeal they had used is ethos because they used
someone who is famous to help build the credibility of ASPCA. If it is someone we know, we as
humans are more likely to listen to what they have to say. The last major appeal they used was pathos.
Pathos was used in many forms in this commercial from the song that was used, to the pictures that
scrolled across our screen, to the fact that no pet owner want to see a pet hurting and in pain as the
pictures showed. The words the Sarah said as well played into the appeal of pathos, by saying these
animals NEED your help . This appeal is the one that is suppose to pull on ones emotions and it does

Phoenix Community Development
Urban areas are usually grown upwards, but things did not seem to go that way for the city of Phoenix.
Phoenix has done nothing but expand thanks to the much endless desert space they are surrounded by.
Many suburban areas where created around Phoenix due to large amount of family homes built. Along
with all of the development and amount of time, Phoenix is actually now surrounded by 24 smaller
cities. A large amount of ecosystems where destroyed in order to build a lot of single family homes
and a lot of streets. A big reason for the Phoenix region growing outwards rather than upwards is
mostly due to land being priced very cheap and allowing larger margins of profits because homes are
not build until they have all been completely purchased by the customers. A great example of how the
city of Phoenix is expanding right now is the community named Anthem. It is a community in which
people don t really ever need to go out of their community because it has everything in it. In such
community there is nothing but single family homes with many wide streets. It is sort of a resort style

resources which then means they need to be delivered miles to Phoenix. Another main concern that

An Indian Story By Roger Jack And Looking For Work By Gary...
The ideal family is always portrayed as the two parents and the children, but both An Indian Story by
Roger Jack and Looking for Work by Gary Soto, surpass that stereotype by showing families that are
not ideal. One is a Native American family that doesn t live together, the other is a working class
Mexican American family . As mentioned in, The Color of Family Ties , ...commentators often
emphasize the disorganization and dysfunction of black and Latino/a family life , (pg. 54) because
they are minorities they are looked upon on, and the way their family is structure is linked to their
ethnicity or race, although those two don t necessarily correlate. An Indian Story and Looking for
Work illustrate nontraditional families, both show love and care within their family regardless of the
situation, but An Indian Story shows a stronger family tie because they manage to lookout for each
other and they continuously show their support to one another in order to be united. Roger Jack s aunt,
Aunt Greta was the backbone of their family. She is depicted as altruistic, she always found a way to

William Shakespeare s Hamlet s Revenge
Thesis:
Shakespeare s portrayal of Hamlet s revenge is not a worthy journey because he never finds his self
worth, distracted between what will exemplify his purpose, and what will make him a failure in the
memory of Denmark.
Three quotes with analysis explaining thesis:
Act 1 Scene 5
Ghost: But know, thou noble youth, Hamlet: Oh My Prophetic Soul! My uncle?
The serpent that did sting thy father s life
Now wears his crown.
The beginning of the call to adventure J Campbell , Hamlet is encountered with the vengeful act of
murdering his uncle who killed his father. This is the first time that Hamlet is confronted with the
controversial decision of the importance of self worth or the vengeful act for his deceased father. This
shows the heightened passion and drive that Hamlet puts into the revenge on behalf of his father,
putting the most important component to his success, self worth, second.
Act 3 Scene 3
And so I am revenged. That would be scanned. A villain kills my father: and for that, I, his sole son,
do the same villain send to heaven.
This is the scene in Hamlet that King Claudius is kneeling before the lord, attempting to confess his
sins. Hamlet comes into this scene unseen by Claudius, in which he attempts to murder Claudius, but
doesn t because he doesn t want Claudius to go to heaven as a saved soul, he wants him to pay for his
sins; to watch his murder. This is where Hamlet confirms that he will devise a plan to

towards where Eleanor pointed, but I couldn t catch a glimpse of what made her so excited. I turned
my head back to watch the road carefully, annoyed by her sudden outburst. She continued to stutter,

My husband has written much about how much of an inspiration you are to him and his fellow
troops... Moving closer to Eleanor, I read the letter over her shoulder. 13th, March, 1941 Even though
the letter was from the 1940s, and there were many documentations of that time, my mind was filled
with awe of the historical relevance these letters could hold. These letters could be a gateway to tens
or hundreds of minds of women and men who have personal experience with World War II. These
letters were an entryway into the lives of those who had gone through years and years of strife, of
conflict. These letters give insight into the lost shadows of people from the past, letting us forever
memorialize and treasure their memories. I shout, completely disregarding the goat, who lurches with
fright, and flees into the thin trees in the distance. We must gather these notes! Eleanor looks up with
wide eyes, and nods jerkily in response. Stooping along the sides of the road, we maniacally collect
tens, and later hundreds of letters filled with personal accounts of the past, which framed at least a
small part of this world to what it finally evolved into. We are so lucky. Afterwards, a run back to my
car, and grabbing a plastic bag which I fill my letters, I feel alive. 1912! 1937! 1897! Eleanor screams
out ecstatically. As time drags from minutes to hours, Eleanor and I comb along the side of the road
until we can find no more letters. However, I am mournful, knowing that

Zora Neale s Personal Autonomy In Their Eyes Were Watching...
Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God follows Jamie Crawford who consecutively
becomes involved in three marriages with distinct men that she eventually leaves, but not without
finding a semblance of her identity through them. Janie s ability to seek out her dreams and her
persistence towards discovering not only love, but herself through relationships portrays her as a
peculiar individual who defies the social norm of the time period where a woman, especially black
women, should not have a voice. The confounding qualities Janie emits prompts for an in depth study
on how Hurston develops the growth of a black woman s personal autonomy in a highly oppressive
setting. Throughout the novel, love and the seek for personal happiness have been prevalent as Jamie
suffers no regret from separating from her first two husbands who have both failed to provide her

attention towards the issue of how men like Joe, and even her first husband Logan Killicks who
claimed she was under his command, lust for ways to display power and restrain Janie s spirit.
However, Janie s response and growth from these issues are quite complex since she does not let the
belittling of the men damper her. In fact, what Janie describes as her internal silent rebellions against

Super Size Me, by Morgan Spurlock Essay
Documentary Film Analysis Paper In a society that is facing numerous problems, such as economic
devastation, one major problem is often disregarded, growing obesity. As the American society keeps
growing, so does growth of the fast food industry and the epidemic of obesity. In order to further
investigate the main cause of obesity, Morgan Spurlock, the film director and main character, decides
to criticize the fast food industry for its connection with obesity in America. In his documentary
Spurlock performs a radical experiment that drives him to eat only from McDonald s and order a super
sized meal whenever he is asked. By including visual and textual techniques, rhetorical appeals, and
argumentative evidences, Morgan Spurlock was able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of a graph is the progress of Spurlock s health throughout the thirty days. He uses a
pictograph to analyze the changes in areas regarding health, weight gain, and fat percentage. This
graph shows that he has gained almost 25 pounds, increased cholesterol rate, prone for deleterious risk
for heart problems, emotional and sexual exhaustion, and the development of a fatty liver. By
analyzing the graph, the viewers can see how Spurlock s diet has led to many risky health conditions.
By including many examples of visual and textual evidences in his documentary, Spurlock was able to
reveal how eating fast food is a prime cause of obesity and health problems. He uses visuals and texts
to help explain the credibility of the film, the logic behind it, and the appeal to audience. The
credibility of the film helps shows how dangerous it is to eat fast food constantly. By performing this
experiment, Spurlock became a credible source to report the obesity problem. The health analysis
graph in the film and his daily documentation helps concede the logic in the film. They help provide
solid evidences to the risks faced by eating fast food and how it is related to future health problems.
But overall, most of the visuals and texts are utilized to try appealing to the emotions of the audience.
Spurlock especially uses this to have the audience experience one of the most common problem that is
faced by many Americans

Ethics In Nursing
Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and
injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy
in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations. (ANA, 2010a, p. 1).
Exemplified within this definition is the inherent nature and breadth of nursing, a discipline grounded
in a set of values and guided by a code of ethics that reveres the sanctity of human life. Both an art and
science, it embodies an evidence based practice requiring a specialized knowledge base and skill set
with consideration of clinical judgment and patient preference to optimize health and well being

Linguistic Genius Of Babies Book Review
Patricia Kuhl s TED Talk lecture, The Linguistic Genius of Babies, is an overview of how infants as
young as six months old are capable of discriminating between the units of all languages equally, but
at ten months, infants tend to become better at distinguishing between units of their native language
and worse at those of a foreign language. This shows that there is a critical period not just for language
acquisition but also for the ability to acquire a second language. Therefore, parents who with for their
children to have a bilingual advantage should expose infants to a second language as soon as possible.
Noam Chomsky believed that humans are genetically designed with the capacity to learn language.
Humans have a system of common rules and properties, called universal grammar, which allows us to
learn any world language. It appears that Kuhl s research supports this theory. Kuhl exposed American
infants, who had only been previously exposed to English, to Mandarin during the critical period for
language acquisition. Babies exposed to both English and Mandarin showed equivalent statistics for
language discrimination. This exposure alters the Language Acquisitions Device (LAD) in the brain
and makes infants the citizens of the world, (Kuhl, 2010) Chomsky believed them to be, rather than
the culture bound listeners, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While humans are biologically designed to produce language, with exception of reasons of defect,
there is still a time limit during which infants must be exposed to language or risk developmental
delays. These delays are not just in the area of language acquisitions, but are related to other cognitive
functions as well, as we saw in the example of Justin, the boy who was raised as a dog by his
caregiver. Language acquisition is essential in the development of the ability to problem solve and to
process and understand symbolic

  • 2. Writing Style Analysis Essay Introduction Understanding the various modes and methods of writing is important in academic writing. The following essay will describe, examine, and analyze the methods of three peer reviewed journal articles from the International Journal of Work, Health, Organizations, specifically addressing work and stress. Describe Journal Writing Style The publications within the journal selected show a specific writing style throughout all the articles selected. The writing style that was presented in these articles was a formal style of writing. A formal style of writing can be classified as academic writing that presents a certain structure that is to be followed. The structure of the publication of these journal articles is presented on three levels. First, the authors present the background information on the topic to gain an understanding of the topic. Secondly, the authors present their ideas by conducting a study on the topic selected. The studies presented are topics that are occasionally discussed or researched so the authors of this journal shed light on these areas. The final level of structure that the authors present is a discussion and conclusion of their results. This final level of the articles presents ways for the intended audience to incorporate the findings in their practice or encourage the audience to pursue further research within the topic. For example, Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, and Masoura (2014), present in their conclusion how there are limited studies on burnout in correlation with cognitive impairment and introduce ideas for future research. In addition, the articles provided practical implications for management to use within high stress work environments to support their employees (Pindek Spector, 2016; Michailidis Banks, 2016). Analyze Journal Writing connection to Student Writing The writing presented in the journal articles showe one strong connection to the writings I submit within the classrooms of Capella University. The major connection is the use of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) is used. Using APA provides the overall structure of an author s writing. • 3. The Effect Of Glucose On The Formation Of Furanoid... Glucose D glucopyranose or, more commonly, D glucose is an aldohexose, a reducing sugar and a component of sucrose, lactose, cellulose, and starch; the latter is typically used as the primary material for the commercial production of glucose via enzymatic hydrolysis (de Wit et al. 1993). Glucose is the primary component for the manufacture of alkyl polyglucosides, D glucitol, gluconic acid, and high fructose corn syrup; in fact, D glucose can undergo a fermentation process to produce L ascorbic acid, from D glucitol, as well as polyesters, polyurethanes, and alkyd and melamine resins. Moreover, D glucose can form pyranoid, furnaoid, and acyclic tautomers (Lichtenthaler and Peters 2004). This tautomeric form must be fixed to help facilitate subsequent reactions such for the formation of furanoid diacetonide, acyclic dithio acetal, pyranoid structures, in glucosidic forms, and glucal or hydroxyglucal esters. Furthermore, an acetylacetone reaction with D glucose, with intercession from ZnCl¬¬2, forms highly substituted furan derivatives. Since only the first two D glucose carbons participate in the furan formation, a hydrophilic tetrahydroxybutyl side chain also forms, which can be oxidized to yield a selection of furanic building blocks. In comparison, D glucose can react with pentane 2,4 dione, in a moderately basic environment, to cause carbon addition, followed by a retroaldol style elimination of acetate. The incident, when Harlan is assaulting Thelma, set the first dramatic moment. This major event is the twist that provokes the action to escalate to the next act. In outrageous behavior, with suppressed feelings about her past, Louise relapses. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sad endings, like Thelma and Louise s story, is now proving to be exceptional, because their journeys were exhausting. There were valuable messages broadcasted throughout the acts. However, the most important message was the importance of friendship, with the development of an unbreakable bond, love, and trust between two friends. This is a story of two women with a keen desire to encourage one another and beautifully inspired many others in the process. Act One: The Weekend Trip The desire to escape reality to have fun is the dominant intentional plan. The simple gateway plans to stay at a Louise manager s cabin for the weekend. The major foreshadowing in the first act is when Thelma puts a gun in her purse for protection. The first plot is when Harlan attacks Thelma, at the parking lot, and she resists his advances. Harlan aggressively slaps her. She asks him to stop, but instead he hits her, and proceeds to rape her. Next, Louise shows up and points the gun at him, and Thelma walks away with Louise. Then, Harlan makes some remarks; Louise turns around and shoots him. Act Two: Running Away They are alarmed by the incident. He is a novelist, a poet and a distinguished critic. The impact of his original thinking and the force of his powerful argument on the contemporary literary and intellectual life of India is unparalleled in recent history. His greatest contribution to Indian literary criticism is his theory of Nativism. As a literary critic he has been passionately advocating it. Discussion: Nemade s Attack on Bogus Internationalism Before defining his concept of nativism and its need in literature and criticism, Nemade comes down heavily on the hollow and bogus internationalism pursued by Indian writers and critics before and after independence. He admits the fact of cultural imperialism that hampers our growth as a confident society, nation and culture. ...West may not be there, but it is very much there in the mind of the East, and that cultural imperialism does exist. (Nemade, 2009: 10) Nemade expects us to look into our own tradition to form our own standards to judge the quality of a literary work. He laments the fact that in our times Indian writers and critics by and large suffer from West worship mania. There is tendency in India to accept all that is Western as modern, standard and progressive. Such a tendency often leads to blind acceptance of Western norms in art, literature, culture, politics, media, fashion etc. Funnily enough such a tendency is mistakenly equated with cultivation of international consciousness. The tendency of West worship simultaneously leads to looking down upon everything native. As a result those who talk about the worth and value of things native are branded as regressive and fundamentalists. Nemade makes it clear that nativism is opposed to fundamentalism. Song Of Solomon Discrimination Quotes normalization, by the society they live in, of the way these women are treated goes hand in hand with the way men seem to discard them so easily, because in Song of Solomon the women are the ones who get left behind. Morrison tries to break the stereotypical characterization of the women s dependency on men, for instance by creating characters like Pilate who are more than capable to break free. In the novel it is noticeable that some of the women are those who seem to be unable to fly and suffer the most at the hand of the characters who are able. They are trapped in their marriages, crushed by heavy burdens and try to survive day by day. (Morrison, 1977) Some women seem to be grounded and trapped on earth. That fall was my first semester with numerous difficult classes, my first year being completely active in my sorority, I was co captain of the dance team, had my first job, and my first boyfriend. The semester started fine with my classes being challenging but nothing I did not think I could handle. Saying no to my sorority was a difficult task so I took on two positions and later in the year, a third. Being trusted with such big responsibilities made me feel special and like I was needed so I never saw it as a burden. I was honored to be voted the co captain of the dance team and helped to choreograph dances and pick out costumes and songs. First and foremost, let the Almighty Father be thanked for this sight...But now a man, with the Lord s assistance, has accomplished something... (line 927 955). Nick Adams, a mentally and physically wounded individual, featured in Big Two Hearted River by Ernest Hemingway, written in 1925, experiences an emotional journey through the process of fishing. Whereas Big Boy, a black boy in Big Boy Leaves Home by Richard Wright and written only a decade later in 1936, endures the racial tensions between blacks and whites in the South and the struggles Big Boy encounters to ensure his survival. While some readers may claim that both short stories appear as though there is a resolution or ending, there is a larger scope to both of the stories endings in which the reader is not fully certain of the outcomes of Nick Adams and Big Boy. Therefore the endings are suspended and leave the reader guessing. The suspended endings of both stories impress differentiating after lasting emotions on the reader as the motives for which each main character heads towards the cities diverge. Big Boy Leaves Home imparts a hopeful but skeptical ending perspective due to the uncertainty if Big Boy is truly safer away from the South, whereas Big Two Hearted River conveys a positivistic ending for Nick Adams as a Hemingway code hero his healing process. Big Boy, an overgrown black teenager that lands himself in the crosshairs of racial prejudice after killing a white man, struggles through multiple obstacles to escape the Deep South and head to the North. After having spent the night in the kiln and fighting off a snake and a dog, Big Boy boards a truck headed for, presumably, Chicago. However, Wright creates uncertainty for Big Boy s future even if he does reach the North, let alone Chicago itself. Big Boy has no finances, no shelter, nor from the reader s understanding, extended family outside of the South. At the end of the story, The truck sped over the asphalt mines, sped northward, jolting him, shaking out of his bosom the crumbs of corn bread, making them dance with the splinters and sawdust in the golden blades of sunshine (Wright 53). The crumbs of the corn bread shaking out demonstrate the mental growth and emotional hardening that Big Boy obtained from his life threatening situations the previous night but also as a symbol of shaking out the last of home and starting ... • 21. Political Campaign Comparison When looking at these images I think of the original piece that these works are a reference to. For the Obama hope poster I am reminded of the political campaign of him running and the photograph the poster referenced. In the second and third poster I am reminded of the first poster as these are a parody of sorts of it. The second poster has a portrait of the Joker from the batman series. The third is a reference to Bill Clinton s sex scandal. The artist uses art appropriation to use an image that the audience already knows. Since the audience is already familiar with parts of the image it becomes sort of a parody. The audience can look at the piece and form their own judgements based on what they think about these events. For example a person who was not a fan of Obama during his political run would already have their views of Obama when they look at the hope poster. They may not see hope as the correct word for him. Major Drug Companies Taking Hefty Price Increases Essay NEW YORK (Reuters) Major drug companies took hefty price increases in the U.S., in some cases more than doubling listed charges, for widely used medications over the past five years, a Reuters analysis of proprietary data found. Prices for four of the nation s top 10 drugs increased more than 100 percent since 2011, Reuters found. Six others went up more than 50 percent. Together, the price increases on drugs for arthritis, high cholesterol, asthma and other common problems added billions in costs for consumers, employers and government health programs. Extraordinary price hikes by two small companies, Turing Pharmaceuticals and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc , drew new attention to drug costs. Turing expected to book $200 million by raising the price of Daraprim, an antiparasitic used for a rare infection, by 5,000 percent, according to company documents released by Congressional investigators. Routine price increases by bigger players may draw less attention, but they add up. Sales for the top 10 drugs went up 44 percent to $54 million in 2014, from 2011, even though prescriptions for the medications dropped 22 percent, according to IMS Health data. At the top of the list was AbbVie Inc , which raised the price of arthritis drug Humira more than 126 percent, Reuters found. Well known essayist , Joan Didion, in her essay, The Santa Ana, describes the winds and the effects it has on the way the people behave. Both Thomas and Didion s essays have a similar subject and circumstance, the Santa Ana winds but, both essays vary in numerous ways. The details, tone, and how the message is being told are ways in which both essays differ. These essays are an example of one topic being portray through different lights. In Brush Fire, Thomas begins to convey recollected memories of a day on which she experienced the Santa Ana winds. She tells the details in chronological order starting from the moment she woke up and ended in the present tense. Thomas stated, I know this because this morning I awoke to air so dry that the graze of my nightgown against the down comforter created tiny orange sparks (Thomas). Thomas ended with a different tense from which she began her essay. She said, We are here to watch the orange flames color the sunset. (Thomas). She also included details that incite imagery while talking about the environment of southern California by saying, Chaparral is gorgeously beautiful from the crooked red brown wood... the sturdy shaft of yucca... with spikes of creamy blossom, to brilliant orange threads of dodder vine. (Thomas). Didion also uses imagery but unlike Thomas, Didion conveys the imagery using the future tense. Didion states, ... we will see smoke back in the canyons, and hear sirens in the night (Didion). The difference in the way that both essays begin to unfold resonate in the tense that is used. Tone plays an important role in how the message of each essay is being conveyed. This tone of both essays is one way in which they differ. Thomas uses a calm, poetic tone whereas Didion uses a more scientific and intellectual tone. Phrases in which the tone of Thomas text is revealed includes, ... Freudian Literary Analysis Of Doubt By John Patrick Shanley Freudian(Psychoanalytical) Literary Analysis of Doubt Doubt by John Patrick Shanley is about a nun who is entirely convinced that a priest had done something inappropriate to one of the students and taken advantage of the fact that the student (Donald Muller) is an African American. Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the nun, concluded that Father Flynn, the priest, had been forcing Donald Muller to drink wine and molesting him. With the help of a naive nun named Sister James, Sister Aloysius attempted to investigate her assumption of Father Flynn s actions even if it meant contacting Donald s mother. Sister Aloysius is a stereotypical splenetic Catholic School nun who believes that being an unsympathetic and oppressive person to the students is the most effective method in order to make the students oblige to her commands. The literary theory chosen for this literature work is the Freudian literary theory. Freudian literary theory is based on the works of Sigmund Freud and workings of the mind and instinct as well as sexuality. The play Doubt and Freudian literary theory can be related because Freud s work reveals the id, ego and superego and how it affects a person. Id is a natural instinct. Ego ensures that the impulses of the id is expressed in an acceptable behavior. Superego provides guidelines and morals for making judgments. Moving closer to Eleanor, I read the letter over her shoulder. 13th, March, 1941 Even though the letter was from the 1940s, and there were many documentations of that time, my mind was filled with awe of the historical relevance these letters could hold. These letters could be a gateway to tens or hundreds of minds of women and men who have personal experience with World War II. These letters were an entryway into the lives of those who had gone through years and years of strife, of conflict. These letters give insight into the lost shadows of people from the past, letting us forever memorialize and treasure their memories. I shout, completely disregarding the goat, who lurches with fright, and flees into the thin trees in the distance. We must gather these notes! Eleanor looks up with wide eyes, and nods jerkily in response. Stooping along the sides of the road, we maniacally collect tens, and later hundreds of letters filled with personal accounts of the past, which framed at least a small part of this world to what it finally evolved into. • 49. Linguistic Genius Of Babies Book Review Patricia Kuhl s TED Talk lecture, The Linguistic Genius of Babies, is an overview of how infants as young as six months old are capable of discriminating between the units of all languages equally, but at ten months, infants tend to become better at distinguishing between units of their native language and worse at those of a foreign language. This shows that there is a critical period not just for language acquisition but also for the ability to acquire a second language. Therefore, parents who with for their children to have a bilingual advantage should expose infants to a second language as soon as possible. Noam Chomsky believed that humans are genetically designed with the capacity to learn language. Humans have a system of common rules and properties, called universal grammar, which allows us to learn any world language. It appears that Kuhl s research supports this theory. Kuhl exposed American infants, who had only been previously exposed to English, to Mandarin during the critical period for language acquisition. Babies exposed to both English and Mandarin showed equivalent statistics for language discrimination. This exposure alters the Language Acquisitions Device (LAD) in the brain and makes infants the citizens of the world, (Kuhl, 2010) Chomsky believed them to be, rather than the culture bound listeners, ...
