This study deals with the energy audit and heat recovery on the rotary kiln taking a cement factory in Ethiopia as a case study.The system is a dry type rotary kiln equipped with a five stage cyclone type preheater, pre-calciner and grate cooler. The kiln has a capacity of 2,000 tons/day.Mass and energy balance has been performed for energy auditing. The energy lost from the kiln shell is about 4.3 MW. By using secondary shell on the rotary kiln about 3.5MW could be recovered safely.This energy saving reduces fuel consumption (almost 9%) of the kiln system, and increases the overall system efficiency by approximately 2–3%.

The study of characterizing and featuring different kinds of flames has become more important than ever in order to increase combustion efficiency and decrease particulate emissions, especially since the study of industrial flames requires more attention. In the present work, different kinds of combustion flames have been characterized by means of digital image processing (DIP) in a 500 kW PF pilot swirl burner. A natural gas flame and a set of pulverized fuel flames of coal and biomass have been comparatively analyzed under co-firing conditions. Through DIP, statistical and spectral features of the flame have been extracted and graphically represented as two-dimensional distributions covering the root flame area. Their study and comparison leads to different conclusions about the flame behavior and the effect of co-firing coal and biomass in pulverized fuel flames. Higher oscillation levels in co-firing flames versus coal flames and variations in radiation regimen were noticed when different biomasses are blended with coal and brought under attention.

Different researchers have analyzed the effect of fin geometry and combination of fins on heat transfer enhancement technique. In present research, find out the effect of fins on heat transfer augmentation or heat transfer coefficient for extracting heat from various waste heat sources.

An internal combustion (IC) engine has a predominant role in a low power generation and a virtual monopoly in mobile applications today. One of the best methods to improve the engine performance and reduce the exhaust emission in a SI engine is by using introduction of twin spark into the combustion chamber. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of twin spark using CNG fuel in SI engine. The performance and emission analysis of an engine are investigated by experiment with CNG kit and gas analyzer. From this study the fuel consumption is reduce in twin spark arrangement for the same power output as compare to single spark using both of the fuel gasoline as well as CNG. Engine emission is considerably reduced using twin spark plug.

Maximum Energy yield of 56.5%, based on bio-oil, is obtained at pyrolysis
temperature of 812 K and PW:MPC:: 8.8:1.0
The energy analysis and GHG emission data of two alternative processes
have been interpreted and compared with the conventional option of
incineration.
GHG performances of both pyrolysis schemes are better than the direct
incineration process for power generation.
Although the life cycle efficiency of pyrolysis option (1) is the best among
the three options the GHG emission avoided is the highest in case of
pyrolysis option 2.
More analysis on parametric sensitivity will reveal the best option for the
most practicable operation of the plant.
