This document evaluates the effectiveness of detached breakwaters and groynes for reducing coastal erosion along the Alappad coast in Kerala, India. Numerical modeling is conducted using software to analyze wave parameters, currents, and sediment transport with and without protective structures. Results show that detached breakwaters are most effective at reducing wave heights, while groynes provide a better barrier against dominant northward currents. Both structures decrease sediment transport rates and can reduce coastal erosion. Transition groynes with a spacing of twice their length perform well with minimal downstream impacts.

Numerical simulation of tidal circulation in the pichavaram mangrove estuary ...eSAT Journals
Abstract A vertically averaged numerical model is developed using the Surface water Modeling System (SMS) for the Pichavaram Mangrove Estuary to study the tidal characteristics which enables the simulation of the whole water circulation within the water body. The Pichavaram mangrove ecosystem is a complex network of creeks, mangroves and mud flats housed between the Vellar and Coleroon rivers, 15 km north of Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, India. A portion of the Coleroon river drains into the mangroves, and tidal flow is through the Coleroon mouth and a small inflow from an inlet in the north. The reduction of freshwater flow over the years has led to a degradation of the mangroves and changes in sedimentation patterns. The results are calibrated against data collected previously. From the simulated results it is noticed that the tidal flow from the Coleroon mouth dominates the entire system. The maximum flood and ebb tide speed reached 0.777 ms-1 and 0.468 ms-1 during monsoon and post monsoon periods, respectively. The tide showed a pronounced asymmetry in mangroves and a 12% increase in total depth of water with a maximum increase in water level of about 5 cm is noticed between monsoon and post monsoon conditions. The dominance of ebb tide is noticed due to friction in the mangrove forest, which has resulted in slower flood current and greater tidal asymmetry in the waterway. Abstract The loose non cohesive material through which a river flows is generally called sediment. Local scour at piers and abutments is the main reason for the collapse of bridges founded in alluvial sediments. Clear water scour refers to the situation where no sediment is supplied by the approaching flow in the zone of scour. Many investigators have studied various aspects of scour. However, the study on scour under steady condition for same discharge with same depth of flow for different pier diameters is limited. In present study laboratory experiment was conducted on different pier sizes of circular piers by keeping discharge constant under clear water scour condition. It is found that Non dimensional scour depth gradient is different up to opening ratio 0.8 having less slope and its slope is steep above 0.8 opening ratio. Analysis of shoreline variability and shoreline erosion-accretion trends is fundamental to a broad range of investigations undertaken by coastal scientists, coastal engineers, and coastal managers. Though strictly defined as the intersection of water and land surfaces, for practical purposes, the dynamic nature of this boundary and its dependence on the temporal and spatial scale at which it is being considered results in the use of a range of shoreline indicators. These proxies are generally one of two types: either a feature that is visibly discernible in coastal imagery (e.g., high-water line [HWL]) or the intersection of a tidal datum with the coastal profile (e.g., mean high water [MHW]). Recently, a third category of shoreline indicator has begun to be reported in the literature, based on the application of image-processing techniques to extract proxy shoreline features from digital coastal images that are not necessarily visible to the human eye.

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF BRIDGE PIER SHAPE TO MINIMIZE LOCAL SCOURIAEME Publication
The study of local scour around bridge piers is very important for safe design of piers and other hydraulic structures. In this study, shape of pier is the main concern with three different velocities (0.18, 0.25, and 0.3) m/sec and other parameters like flow depth, bed material and etc. are remain same for all experiments. The experiments were conducted using laboratory flume, operated under the clear water condition using sand as a bed material. The test program was done on ten different shapes, Circular, Rectangular, Octagonal, Chamfered, Hexagonal, Elliptical, Sharp, Joukowsky, Oblong, streamline. were used to investigate the effect of the bridge pier's shape on local scour to conclude the optimal shape that gives minimum depth of scour. Comparison of results show that scour at upstream is directly proportional to exposed area of upstream nose of pier.

Growth faults and its associated rollover anticlines are generally syndepositional sedimentary structures that result from diastrophism which was contemporaneous with sedimentation. They are special structures which occur abundantly in the Niger Delta & constitute one of the most important hydrocarbon traps in the region .
Despite this abundance, their occurrence is however restricted to the extensional zone of the Niger delta. These structures can be identified from outcrops, seismic data , structure contour maps and well logs. While their propagation history can be constrained by the use of key kinematic tools, such as t-z, d-l and expansion index plots. Although, it has been identified that these structures are target structures in the accumulation of oil and gas, they can also be destructive, especially if they are reactivated after hydrocarbon accumulation.
Hence, it is important for the petroleum explorationist to identify, map their extent and constrain the propagation history of these structures, in order to minimise exploration risk.

This paper describes the system and results of a comparison in Myrtle Beach, S.C., between surveys collected over a 3- day period by the personal watercraft system and by a similar system mounted aboard a traditional coastal survey vessel.
The bathymetric measurements for the personal watercraft-mounted echosounder surveying system display mean repetitive differences of 6 cm.
This workshop is an introductory course in Hydrographic surveying.
It is designed for surveyors, engineers, survey technicians, dredge operators, and hydrographers.

The geophysical-based integrated electrical
conductivity (IEC) and the groundwater hydraulic confinement–
overlying strata–depth to water table (GOD)
techniques were used to assess vulnerability levels of
aquifers and the extent of aquifer protection in Abi,
Nigeria. The IEC indices was generated from
constrained one dimensional (1D) inversion of vertical
electrical sounding (VES) and two dimensional (2D)
electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) data, acquired
randomly in the area. The GOD indices were sourced
from existing geologic data within the area. Results
showed that IEC values vary from <0.1>2.0 S in the strongly protected areas.
The GOD indices vary from <0.3 in the lowly vulnerable
areas to 0.6 in the highly vulnerable areas. Thus, the
groundwater resources in the area need to be properly
managed for sustainability and such management practices
have been suggested.

Scour investigation around single and two piers sidebyside arrangementeSAT Journals
Abstract Laboratory experiments concerning scour development around single and two piers side by side arrangement have been conducted in order to provide a comparison of scour depths and patterns. The experiments are carried out under unidirectional currents of clear-water scour conditions. A variety of conditions including different flow depths, pier diameters and pier spacing are considered to have significant influence on the development of the potential scour hole. The research on local scour around single and two piers side by side arrangement are studied by using a 15.24 m long, 0.46 m wide and 0.4 m deep flume in the Hydraulics and Hydrology Laboratory, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).Experimental results describing the scour-hole depths and patterns are discussed. The results show that the magnitude and extent of the scour depth depends directly on pier size, pier spacing and flow condition. Piers, which are larger in diameter, produced greater scour depth. It also shows that by increasing the pier spacing, the scour depth around two piers decreases and closes to values of single pier. The two piers act as an obstruction which disturbed the flow field and caused large turbulence levels to be generated. Thereby, a further increase in the scouring velocity is produced giving relatively higher scour depth values. The prime factors governing the local scouring process associated with piers are pier spacing, horseshoe vortex, reinforcing and sheltering. The results show that good agreement with previous study where the down flow causes of increased scour for a single pier case. Meanwhile, the horseshoe vortex appears to be the main cause of scour in the case of two piers side by side arrangement. Thereby, a further increase in the scouring velocity is produced giving relatively higher scour depth values. The prime factors governing the local scouring process associated with piers are pier spacing, horseshoe vortex, reinforcing and sheltering. The results show that good agreement with previous study where the down flow causes of increased scour for a single pier case. Meanwhile, the horseshoe vortex appears to be the main cause of scour in the case of two piers side by side arrangement. Jeneberang Estuary, located south of Makassar, Indonesia, is one of the largest and most important river in Sulawesi. In this paper, a numerical model has recently been developed hydrodynamic and morphological evolution of the downstream rubber dam of the Jeneberang Estuary. The hydrodynamic model is derived from the hydro static assumption and Boussinesq approximation. A high-resolution computational grid was generated covering the Jeneberang estuary. The model was run with time driven by tidal forcing at the ocean boundary and river hydro graph at the upstream. The observed tidal data and hydrography were accessible for the set-up of the model. Hydrodynamic simulations have been performed and computed water levels were compared to observations of existing water level along the estuary from DISHIDRO data. For the period of a neap-spring-neap cycle, the model settings determined in the calibration process are verified satisfactions with respect to water level measurements. Good agreement was shown between model results and observed temporal and spatial variations in water elevation and currents, in the Jeneberang Estuary. The suspended sediments were generally transported from the Jeneberang River towards the Makassar Strait when overflow discharge through the Jeneberang Rubber Dam. Groundwater pollution in the north coast of Mombasa is not only from surface sources but also from the
intrusion of seawater via the Indian Ocean and creeks. This study assessed the vulnerability of the coastal aquifer
to seawater intrusion using GALDIT index overlay method with the aid of GIS. Thematic maps of six major
factors affecting seawater intrusion were prepared, and given appropriate weightages and ratings. These maps
were overlaid, spatially analyzed to produce vulnerability maps and described based on low, moderate or high
vulnerabilities. The results revealed a significant increase in percentage land cover for low vulnerability areas
and a slight increase for high vulnerability regions between the pre-rains and the peak of raining season. The
outcomes of this study provide useful insights on effective groundwater management for the study area.

PRODUCTIVITY VARIATION OF SOUTHEASTERN ARABIAN SEA: INFERENCES FROM BENTHIC F...IAEME Publication
The Indian monsoon has a strong impact on the climate of the southern Arabian Sea (SEAS). To analyze paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic changes during the last 13.5 kyr BP, we created proxy records of benthic foraminiferal diversity in sediments from core SK215/GC05 in the continental shelf off Cochin, off the (SEAS). We found 21 species in 10 sediment subsamples from this investigation. Among them are four species: a) Uvigeriperigrina, Sp., b). Cibicidesrobertsiniaus, Sp., c). Sp. Anomalinella rostrate, and d). Palaeoclimatic indicators, such as Ammomassilinaalveoloformis Sp., are employed. The findings indicate a positive relationship between the four dominant species in the SEAS. We determined that the late glacial to early Holocene periods (13.5 to 9 kyr BP) were less productive, and the Holocene climatic optimum (9 to 5 kyr BP) had the highest production, following which productivity stabilized (5 to 1 kyr BP). Our findings are consistent with the global climatic trend in the northern hemisphere.

to a grid. This paper discusses the use of sea wave energy with the help of oscillating column. The mechanism
converts the wave energy in to electrical power by converting the oscillating motion of waves in to rotary
motion. Using compression ring we can store the power produced by the impact. This stored energy can be
utilized in other strokes. The sea, which covers three quarters of the world’s surface, has been little utilized to
meet the peoples’ energy needs.
Rectangular submerged vertical breakwater (RSVB) is a barrier with its crest below the still
water level. For economical solution of submerged rectangular vertical breakwater, I have to make
some holes in it to be permeable with different permeability ratios (p) to use as wave energy
absorption for the defence of the shore line. So in this paper experiments were done in the wave
flume in the laboratory of Hydraulics, Civil Engineering Department, Shorouk Academy, Higher
Institute of Engineering. This is under normal and regular waves with different ranges of wave
heights and periods under different water depths. The efficiency of the break water is presented as a
function of the transmission, the reflection and the wave energy loss coefficients. A permeable
(RSVB) with constant width (W) = 50 cm as the total width of the experimental flume and different
heights (Y) worked one by one or with each other’s (stepped) with different water depths (dw),
different wave heights (Hi) and some holes with diameter φ = 4.0 and 2.0 cm acting from one to
fourth rows, with different heights (S) from base. Comparing the percentage of energy reduction
calculated between this type and impermeable (RSVB), working as single or as a group (stepped) as
shown in figure (1).

White layer thickness (WLT) formed and surface roughness in wire electric discharge turning (WEDT) of tungsten carbide composite has been made to model through response surface methodology (RSM). A Taguchi’s standard Design of experiments involving five input variables with three levels has been employed to establish a mathematical model between input parameters and responses. Percentage of cobalt content, spindle speed, Pulse on-time, wire feed and pulse off-time were changed during the experimental tests based on the Taguchi’s orthogonal array L27 (3^13). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that the mathematical models obtained can adequately describe performance within the parameters of the factors considered. There was a good agreement between the experimental and predicted values in this study.

The study examined the data of 30 transgender entrepreneurs in Salem Municipal Corporation of Tamil Nadu State, India. Simple Random sampling technique was used. Garrett Ranking Technique (Percentile Position, Mean Scores) was used as the analysis for the present study to identify the top 13 stimulus factors for establishment of trans entrepreneurial venture. The prototype of a voice-based ATM for visually impaired using Arduino is to help people who are blind. This uses RFID cards which contain users fingerprint encrypted on it and interacts with the users through voice commands. ATM operates when sensor detects the presence of one person in the cabin. After scanning the RFID card, it will ask to select the mode like –normal or blind. User can select the respective mode through voice input, if blind mode is selected the balance check or cash withdraw can be done through voice input. For this study, Thirty-six non-clinical employees were selected from twelve randomly selected Health Care organizations at Thanjavur. Thirty-two fully completed questionnaires were received.

The goal of this study was to see how talent management affected employee retention in the selected IT organizations in Chennai. The study's main goals were to determine the impact of talent management on employee retention in IT companies in Chennai, investigate talent management strategies that IT companies could use to improve talent acquisition, performance management, career planning and formulate retention strategies that the IT firms could use. The respondents were given a structured close-ended questionnaire with the 5 Point Likert Scale as part of the study's quantitative research design. The target population consisted of 289 IT professionals. The questionnaires were distributed and collected by the researcher directly. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to collect and analyse the questionnaire responses. Hypotheses that were formulated for the various areas of the study were tested using a variety of statistical tests. The key findings of the study suggested that talent management had an impact on employee retention. The studies also found that there is a clear link between the implementation of talent management and retention measures. Management should provide enough training and development for employees, clarify job responsibilities, provide adequate remuneration packages, and recognise employees for exceptional performance.

The NPAs growth directly and indirectly affects the quality of assets and profitability of banks. It also shows the efficiency of banks credit risk management and the recovery effectiveness. NPA do not generate any income, whereas, the bank is required to make provisions for such as assets that why is a double edge weapon. This paper outlines the concept of quality of bank loans of different types like Housing, Agriculture and MSME loans in state Haryana of selected public and private sector banks. This study is highlighting problems associated with the role of commercial bank in financing Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME). The overall objective of the research was to assess the effect of the financing provisions existing for the setting up and operations of MSMEs in the country and to generate recommendations for more robust financing mechanisms for successful operation of the MSMEs, in turn understanding the impact of MSME loans on financial institutions due to NPA. There are many research conducted on the topic of Non- Performing Assets (NPA) Management, concerning particular bank, comparative study of public and private banks etc. In this paper the researcher is considering the aggregate data of selected public sector and private sector banks and attempts to compare the NPA of Housing, Agriculture and MSME loans in state Haryana of public and private sector banks. The tools used in the study are average and Anova test and variance. The findings reveal that NPA is common problem for both public and private sector banks and is associated with all types of loans either that is housing loans, agriculture loans and loans to SMES. NPAs of both public and private sector banks show the increasing trend. In 2010-11 GNPA of public and private sector were at same level it was 2% but after 2010-11 it increased in many fold and at present there is GNPA in some more than 15%. It shows the dark area of Indian banking sector.

An experiment conducted in this study found that BaSO4 changed Nylon 6's mechanical properties. By changing the weight ratios, BaSO4 was used to make Nylon 6. This Researcher looked into how hard Nylon-6/BaSO4 composites are and how well they wear. Experiments were done based on Taguchi design L9. Nylon-6/BaSO4 composites can be tested for their hardness number using a Rockwell hardness testing apparatus. On Nylon/BaSO4, the wear behavior was measured by a wear monitor, pinon-disc friction by varying reinforcement, sliding speed, and sliding distance, and the microstructure of the crack surfaces was observed by SEM. This study provides significant contributions to ultimate strength by increasing BaSO4 content up to 16% in the composites, and sliding speed contributes 72.45% to the wear rate
ROLE OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT OF INDIA - PROBLEMS AND ...IAEME Publication
The majority of the population in India lives in villages. The village is the back bone of the country. Village or rural industries play an important role in the national economy, particularly in the rural development. Developing the rural economy is one of the key indicators towards a country’s success. Whether it be the need to look after the welfare of the farmers or invest in rural infrastructure, Governments have to ensure that rural development isn’t compromised. The economic development of our country largely depends on the progress of rural areas and the standard of living of rural masses. Village or rural industries play an important role in the national economy, particularly in the rural development. Rural entrepreneurship is based on stimulating local entrepreneurial talent and the subsequent growth of indigenous enterprises. It recognizes opportunity in the rural areas and accelerates a unique blend of resources either inside or outside of agriculture. Rural entrepreneurship brings an economic value to the rural sector by creating new methods of production, new markets, new products and generate employment opportunities thereby ensuring continuous rural development. Social Entrepreneurship has the direct and primary objective of serving the society along with the earning profits. So, social entrepreneurship is different from the economic entrepreneurship as its basic objective is not to earn profits but for providing innovative solutions to meet the society needs which are not taken care by majority of the entrepreneurs as they are in the business for profit making as a sole objective. So, the Social Entrepreneurs have the huge growth potential particularly in the developing countries like India where we have huge societal disparities in terms of the financial positions of the population. Still 22 percent of the Indian population is below the poverty line and also there is disparity among the rural & urban population in terms of families living under BPL. 25.7 percent of the rural population & 13.7 percent of the urban population is under BPL which clearly shows the disparity of the poor people in the rural and urban areas. The need to develop social entrepreneurship in agriculture is dictated by a large number of social problems. Such problems include low living standards, unemployment, and social tension. The reasons that led to the emergence of the practice of social entrepreneurship are the above factors. The research problem lays upon disclosing the importance of role of social entrepreneurship in rural development of India. The paper the tendencies of social entrepreneurship in India, to present successful examples of such business for providing recommendations how to improve situation in rural areas in terms of social entrepreneurship development. Indian government has made some steps towards development of social enterprises, social entrepreneurship, and social in- novation, but a lot remains to be improved.
OPTIMAL RECONFIGURATION OF POWER DISTRIBUTION RADIAL NETWORK USING HYBRID MET...IAEME Publication
Distribution system is a critical link between the electric power distributor and the consumers. Most of the distribution networks commonly used by the electric utility is the radial distribution network. However in this type of network, it has technical issues such as enormous power losses which affect the quality of the supply. Nowadays, the introduction of Distributed Generation (DG) units in the system help improve and support the voltage profile of the network as well as the performance of the system components through power loss mitigation. In this study network reconfiguration was done using two meta-heuristic algorithms Particle Swarm Optimization and Gravitational Search Algorithm (PSO-GSA) to enhance power quality and voltage profile in the system when simultaneously applied with the DG units. Backward/Forward Sweep Method was used in the load flow analysis and simulated using the MATLAB program. Five cases were considered in the Reconfiguration based on the contribution of DG units. The proposed method was tested using IEEE 33 bus system. Based on the results, there was a voltage profile improvement in the system from 0.9038 p.u. to 0.9594 p.u.. The integration of DG in the network also reduced power losses from 210.98 kW to 69.3963 kW. Simulated results are drawn to show the performance of each case.
APPLICATION OF FRUGAL APPROACH FOR PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT - A CASE STUDY OF...IAEME Publication
Manufacturing industries have witnessed an outburst in productivity. For productivity improvement manufacturing industries are taking various initiatives by using lean tools and techniques. However, in different manufacturing industries, frugal approach is applied in product design and services as a tool for improvement. Frugal approach contributed to prove less is more and seems indirectly contributing to improve productivity. Hence, there is need to understand status of frugal approach application in manufacturing industries. All manufacturing industries are trying hard and putting continuous efforts for competitive existence. For productivity improvements, manufacturing industries are coming up with different effective and efficient solutions in manufacturing processes and operations. To overcome current challenges, manufacturing industries have started using frugal approach in product design and services. For this study, methodology adopted with both primary and secondary sources of data. For primary source interview and observation technique is used and for secondary source review has done based on available literatures in website, printed magazines, manual etc. An attempt has made for understanding application of frugal approach with the study of manufacturing industry project. Manufacturing industry selected for this project study is Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. This paper will help researcher to find the connections between the two concepts productivity improvement and frugal approach. This paper will help to understand significance of frugal approach for productivity improvement in manufacturing industry. This will also help to understand current scenario of frugal approach in manufacturing industry. In manufacturing industries various process are involved to deliver the final product. In the process of converting input in to output through manufacturing process productivity plays very critical role. Hence this study will help to evolve status of frugal approach in productivity improvement programme. The notion of frugal can be viewed as an approach towards productivity improvement in manufacturing industries.
A MULTIPLE – CHANNEL QUEUING MODELS ON FUZZY ENVIRONMENTIAEME Publication
In this paper, we investigated a queuing model of fuzzy environment-based a multiple channel queuing model (M/M/C) ( /FCFS) and study its performance under realistic conditions. It applies a nonagonal fuzzy number to analyse the relevant performance of a multiple channel queuing model (M/M/C) ( /FCFS). Based on the sub interval average ranking method for nonagonal fuzzy number, we convert fuzzy number to crisp one. Numerical results reveal that the efficiency of this method. Intuitively, the fuzzy environment adapts well to a multiple channel queuing models (M/M/C) ( /FCFS) are very well.

This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
