Technology continues to push its way into the truck cab: cameras that point both toward the driver and the road; auto collision detection; and lane changing technology. But another development is pushing the envelope in specialized transport. Industry experts share their expertise in implementing the technology, and will discuss ROI, safety, and the long-term implications for the industry and driving profession.

5. In-Cab Technologies
In our ever changing world of technology, amazing things are starting to
be used to help us, our drivers, and the public, by utilizing in-Cab
technologies.
1) What are some of the most common technologies being used in
trucks today, and what can we expect going forward?
2) What advantages are there in utilizing in-cab technology?
3) What are the largest challenges with these technologies?
4) In-Cab Technologies are being used as responses to US Fleets and
Legislative Demands to reduce accidents, and mitigate congestion
6. ELD’s
• One of the most recently mandated
technologies, ELD’s can be helpful in safety and
rest for the drivers
• The drivers can maximize their time in minutes
instead of ¼ hours
• Downfall is that they may not be able to run
their full 11 hours depending on safe havens
• Drivers and planners need to be more efficient
in planning their days
• I venture to say that in the future, RODS devices
will go away due to wearable technology that
will be able to recognize if drivers are rested or
tired.
7. Benefits of
Telematics
Improve fleet safety.
Improve fuel consumption and lower fuel costs.
Improve preventive maintenance and optimize
maintenance scheduling intervals.
Increase drivers productivity.
Automate mandated pre-and post trip inspections.
Reduce theft and improve recovery of stolen
vehicles or trailers.
Provide on-the-road training.
Intergration into fleet management system;
reducing time consuming paperwork.
8. Dash Camera’s
• Benefits – ability to mitigate accidents in the
scenario of the carrier not being at fault.
• Ability to settle accidents much faster in the
case of the carrier being at fault (which reduces
attorney costs)
• Ability to train the drivers to become better
drivers while on the road.(remember they
probably have not seen themselves drive from a
3rd party perspective)
10. Camera’s – In this video, the driver has the interior camera blocked, so as the Carrier, we are unable to
tell what actions the driver was making at the time of incident.
15. Autonomous Technology
• In September 2017, House of Rep. gave approval for framework for
mfgs to develop and test self-driving cars and prevent states from
enacting bans on autonomous vehicles, while addressing the privacy
and safety concerns of self-driving cars. However, the Senate, says
the bill doesn’t go far enough as it doesn’t address self-driving truck
technology. And has plans to alter house legislation to include
Autonomous trucks.
16. • Will Autonomous technology be appealing to a new generation of
driver, to help reduce the shortage?
• Will it make the roads a safer place?
• We be able to connect vehicles together.
• Can we incorporate connected vehicles with Pilot Cars to keep precise
distances between them?
21. Overhead Height Sensors
This is called the GifaffeG4 Truck protection system
It is available thru Raney’s Truck parts @ $213.95 per unit
