retail solutions to the petrol retail industry – SHELL, EXXON MOBIL & TOTAL services
stations around the world. Acting as lead designer either as manager or consultant for
regional and global clients from initial pitch to final delivery stage. Clients included;
• POTALAI ( Thailand ) hospital / spa center complex brand positioning
• NOKIA – 14 country retail shop program award. Multiple tiered store designs & roll-outs.
• PETRONAS MESRA ( Malaysia )– new retail store concept, design and roll out.
• PETROMIN ( Saudi ) – Corporate Image and multi brand development and prototyping.
• NAFT ( Saudi ) – new retail visual image manual.

Whilst still a consultant to the HEXAGON Group the continuous travel – upwards of 18-20
countries yearly, resulted in my reducing the travel workload. An offshoot of this

on iconic brands for MNC’s in everything from strategic review & repositioning, new

Like all robust design groups under advertising agency umbrellas, RMA: UNDERLINE
underwent several mergers and takeovers starting out under BATES of Australia and
eventually ending up as part of FITCH ( the world’s largest specialist retail design group )
under the WPP Group. Clients included;
• BAT – ASEAN – all display units from retail to duty free across all brands & countries.
• PROTON – new corporate image / car naming & showroom designs & roll out for global
brand showrooms.
• NOKIA – regional retail design and roll out with Singapore team.
• H+P – regional retail design and roll out with Singapore team.
• GAB – Malaysian brand execution at retail for Guinness, Tiger & Heineken beers
CAREER AUSTRALASIA
1992-1995 RETAIL TRADING SERVICES ( RTS ) NZ
DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – 4 years
Role was to drive RETRAVISION, CARPET COURT, FURNITURE COURT, TACTIX and
SCENARIO franchise brands nationally.- over 250 stores. Core role in site selection,
property evaluation, store enhancement for company brands with focus on new store
formats and introduction of franchising programs by brand. Headhunted by BATES
Advertising Australia to be Regional Director – S.E. ASIA for merged Underline Design
Group of Australia and RMA of Hong Kong new design group based in Kuala Lumpur and
with additional office in Jakarta servicing Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei,
Thailand, Myanmar and the Middle East.
1990-1991 THE PARK BAY OF ISLANDS - DIRECTOR - 2 years
Returned to NZ to work in the family business to set up of tourist resort in Paihia with
motel, campervan, restaurant and bar facilities. Linked to 90 Mile Beach property in
promotions such as Snapper Classic & International Yellow tail fishing contests. With over
70 staff at the time it was one of Northlands larger tourist based business operations.
1981-1989 UNDERLINE - SENIOR DESIGNER 2 years STUDIO DIRECTOR 7 years
Premium design service for Australia’s first “below the line agency” or sales promotion
group as part of LINTAS or Lever International Advertising Services. Clients included;
• AMPOL OIL – Corporate identity & petrol station design.
• TOLTOYS – Toy Fair and Launch of Cabbage Patch Kids.
• EDGELLS – Food exhibitions & packaging.
• REXONA – Norsca product range POSM and displays.

3. The design service was so successful I was invited to be the founding STUDIO
DIRECTOR of UNDERLINE DESIGN GROUP which grew to a staff of 30 and became
one of Australia’s largest multi disciplined design groups at the time. Clients included;

• 99 WALKER STREET – 20 storey office building naming / retail & offices fit out
