Purpose of the Job:
Support the business objectives through the effective management of a merchandising team in
delivering merchandising solutions for the effective implementation of strategic business plans
through the GSM process.
Ensure Profitability is maximised through effective Planograms
Key Accountabilities:-
 Manage the Merchandising Team to create solutions for all stores in order to ensure that the
range is correctly positioned and presented to the consumer.
 Manage a working culture that actively promotes and recognises adherence to time, cost and
quality.
 Manage the delivery, compliance and quality within the GSM process.
 Manage Merchandising issues, opportunities, competitor developments, and customer feedback
to agreed formats and timescales.
 Manage reporting activity for competitor visits: Range density and analyse all findings.
 Manage the resource allocation, within the Merchandising Team to deliver business requirements.
 Actively manage risk and resolve issues, escalating to Merchandising Controller where
necessary.
 Responsible for training and development, best practices, objectives and regular reviews.
 Liaise with other department teams to understand their respective functions and to ensure they
are fully aware of Merchandising objectives and processes, providing best solutions where
necessary.
 Recruit, manage, train and help motivate the merchandising team according to company
procedures and policies.
 Maintain awareness and knowledge of Competitor Merchandising development across the UK
and provide the retail sector suitable interpretation and recommendations to Buying /
Merchandising Controller.
Within my 10 years working for Somerfield/Co-op I was also involved in many projects one of which
included the development of a new Planogramming & Range Platform. As part of the Project Team I
worked closely with a number of key personal utilizing my extensive knowledge of the JDA
planogramming software as well as my knowledge of Intactics and space planning. As a cross
functional team I was also involved in the development and lunch of new equipment to support the
businesses new ranging/merchandising software which included new refrigeration & tray development
for Produce & the development of the new style Bakery units.
