Join	us	for	an	informal	panel	discussion	on	the	impact	of	Open	Access	for	Australian	universities.	
Open	Access	is	increasingly	important	for	the	university	sector	with	Open	Access	mandates	in	place	
for	ARC	and	NHMRC	funded	research	and	an	increasing	focus	on	the	re-use	of	research	data	and	
online	learning	resources.	The	Swinburne	Research	Bank	provides	Open	Access	to	scholarly	
resources	under	terms	defined	by	academic	publishers,	however	increasingly	publishers	themselves	
are	offering	open	access	via	an	Article	Processing	Charge	or	membership	system.		
The	Open	Access	week	2015	panel	will	look	at	how	Open	Access	issues	affect	Swinburne	and	what	
staff	need	to	know	about	incorporating	Open	Access	into	their	activities.

2015 Swinburne Open Access Week

Open Access week 2015 at Swinburne Invitation to Open Access panel event – hosted by the Swinburne Copyright Office Tuesday 20 October 2015 12.30 – 1.30pm Penang Room, Hawthorn campus Library level 3 Join us for an informal panel discussion on the impact of Open Access for Australian universities. Open Access is increasingly important for the university sector with Open Access mandates in place for ARC and NHMRC funded research and an increasing focus on the re-use of research data and online learning resources. The Swinburne Research Bank provides Open Access to scholarly resources under terms defined by academic publishers, however increasingly publishers themselves are offering open access via an Article Processing Charge or membership system. The Open Access week 2015 panel will look at how Open Access issues affect Swinburne and what staff need to know about incorporating Open Access into their activities. Speakers: Robin Wright, Copyright Manager, Project Leader Open Education Licensing project The wider meaning of openness in the changing Higher Education environment Dan Hunter, Dean, Faculty of Business and Law Open Access and legal publishing Mike Keppel, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Learning Transformations Plans for Open Educational Resources at Swinburne Karen Farquharson, Associate Dean, Research & Engagement, FHAD Data repositories and Open Access to research data Fiona O’Donnell, Manager, Library Research and Collection Services Research Bank and the wider open access publishing environment Neale Yates, Research Performance Analyst, Swinburne Research Issues around Open Access, vanity publishing and citation metrics There will be a light sandwich lunch and discussion after the panel session.
