A survey was conducted of metadata registry developers and users from July to August 2009. Preliminary results were from 35 completed responses and 12 represented registry administrators. The survey addressed general information, registry contents, technical details, policies, and interoperability. Most registries contained controlled vocabularies and metadata terms, though few supported features like exporting data, harvesting content, or linked data. Next steps identified were improving interoperability through publishing registry changes as RSS feeds and enabling content negotiation and linked data in more registries. Further analysis of the survey responses was suggested.

Tufts Spatial Data Rescue: Crawling at-risk Government Data

Much U. S. federal data are perceived as being at risk of becoming inaccessible through lack of maintenance and funding shifts. Organizations such as the End of Term Project and Data Rescue have emerged to coordinate the backup and rescue of at-risk federal data. Tufts University conducted a curated harvest to back up potentially at-risk federal, environmental and social justice geospatial data and associated tabular data. Tufts ongoing harvest has recovered over 40 TB of data. Tufts developed the Crawler to crawl all data: unzip files, identify file types, sizes, local directories, and harvest and process all related metadata using data mining and natural language processing (NLP) techniques. The Crawler results in detailed collection level and layer level metadata analytics for assessment, search and discovery.

LDP-DL: A language to define the design of Linked Data Platforms

This document presents LDP-DL, a language for defining the design of Linked Data Platforms (LDPs). LDP-DL allows describing what resources an LDP contains, how they are organized into containers, and the content of each resource. An LDP-DL model can be interpreted to automatically generate the described LDP. The implementation generates LDPs from LDP-DL designs and heterogeneous data sources. Experiments show LDP-DL supports generating multiple LDPs from a single design, applying one design across data sources, and loose coupling between designs and generated LDPs.

Geospatial Querying in Apache Marmotta - Apache Big Data North America 2016
