Covid 19, How A Pandemic Situation Shapes Cyber ThreatsArun Kannoth
An humble attempt to discover how Covid-19 and such evolving events shape global cyber security landscape and organizations' security posture in the future. Lately I had an opportunity to present this to the CEO of a Silicon Valley based Cyber Security leader (I'm glad that he invited me for a beer soon after my presentation).
With more than 50,000 new malware created every day organisations can no longer afford to risk the financial and reputational impacts of a security or data breach, which can be too much for a business to recover from. Because of this, IT managers face increasing scrutiny and pressure from CEOs, managing directors and boards to prove that they are keeping the organisation secure.
The changing threat landscape means organisations need to be vigilant and smarter about security. While businesses still face threats from infected devices and malware, attackers have also moved beyond that. For example, there is an increasing number of targeted email attacks with cyber criminals spending time to monitor communications so they can imitate emails that are so sophisticated that even relatively savvy users will open them.
This webinar will explore the building blocks required to ensure you have the roadmap required to best protection against cyber attacks. We will provide you with a high level view of the following topics:
· Audit and discovery – What are your weaknesses and are you compliant?
· Education – Do your employees know when not to open that attachment?
· Policy – Do you have the right policies for your industry?
· Technology – Where to start and what has changed?

Community IT presents a discussion of basic IT cybersecurity training for nonprofits’ end users. Learn about common threats and the best techniques for dealing with them. Learn how to balance convenience and security for your staff, so they can follow best practices and be your best defense against hackers and cybercrime.
Lots of organizations are rethinking working from home, secure collaboration on slack and zoom, and security on home devices. And as we have seen an uptick on ransomware and phishing schemes, some organizations have rushed to tighten up your security measures.
Make your security too rigorous, miscommunicate your objectives, or skimp on training, and your staff will soon be working around your measures, opening your organization back up to the cybersecurity risks you were trying to avoid.
Cybersecurity begins with good training.
In this webinar, Community IT Innovators’ Cybersecurity expert Matt Eshleman walks you through a typical staff training, explaining what must be included, how to approach building a team ethos, and how often to update/mandate your training and work with HR.
Do you need specialized security training for certain roles?
Do your executives support and participate in security training?
Where do your greatest cybersecurity risks lie?
How do you document your training?
What apps can make training easier?
Matt has worked over the years with many of our clients to implement cybersecurity, and always emphasizes the importance of staff training as the first line of defense. This webinar incorporates material and best practice advice from recent cybersecurity trainings.

The Benefits of Security From a Managed Services ProviderCSI Solutions
Today’s technology users—both consumers and bankers—who don’t stay informed on the latest in security can open themselves and others to attack.

You have more to secure than ever before. A data breach can happen to any organization, and it's a growing concern among companies both large and small. Take a look at these best practices and see if any of these have gotten lost as you consider your 2017 plan.
Network security is a dynamic art, with dangers appearing as fast as black hats can exploit vulnerabilities. While there are basic “golden rules” which can make life difficult for the bad guys, it remains a challenge to keep networks secure. John Chambers, Executive Chairman of Cisco, famously said “there are two types of companies: those that have been hacked, and those who don’t know they have been hacked”. The question for most organizations isn’t if they’re going to be breached, but how quickly they can isolate and mitigate the threat. In this paper, we’ll examine best practices for effective cybersecurity – from both a proactive (access hardening) and reactive (threat isolation and mitigation) perspective. We’ll address how network automation can help minimize cyberattacks by closing vulnerability gaps and how it can improve incident response times in the event of a cyberthreat. Finally, we’ll lay a vision for continuous network security, to explore how machine-to-machine automation may deliver an auto-securing and self-healing network.

Symantec 2011 State of Security Survey Global FindingsSymantec
Symantec’s 2011 State of Security Survey explores the state of cybersecurity efforts in organizations of all sizes. For the second year in a row, IT said security is the leading business risk they face, ahead of traditional crime, natural disasters and terrorism. However, organizations are getting better at fighting the war against cybersecurity threats. While the majority of respondents suffered damages as a result of cyberattacks, more respondents reported a decline in the number and frequency of attacks compared to 2010.
It's a Who, What, Where and Why behind cyber risk in today's modern era - how data breaches happen, why they happen, and what you can do to address them.
This training creates the awareness of the security threats facing individuals, business owner’s, and corporations in today’s society and induces a’ plan-protection’ attitude. It enriches individuals, students’, business owners’ and workers’ approach to handling these threats and responding appropriately when these threats occur.

Automating Critical Security Controls for Threat Remediation and ComplianceQualys
Trends like the increased use of cloud computing by businesses and their vendors introduce new complexities in reducing risk and assessing security across the supply chain. Demonstrating continuous risk reduction and compliance with internal policies and external regulations, fixing violations and configuration drift, centrally managing exceptions, and documenting progress are all common challenges.
The Center for Internet Security’s (CIS) Critical Security Controls (CSCs) were selected and prioritized by leading security experts to stop today’s most common and serious cyber threats. By implementing these controls, organizations can improve their security posture and reduce the risk of threats to critical assets, data, and network infrastructure.
In this webcast SANS Senior Analyst John Pescatore and Tim White, Director of Product Management for Qualys Policy Compliance (PC), discuss how you can achieve continuous security and compliance, and leverage Qualys solutions to address all 20 CSCs.
The presentation encompasses:
• An overview of the CIS Critical Security Controls, including ongoing updates
• Success patterns organizations have demonstrated for using the controls to their advantage
• How an automation can reduce the staffing load to determine whether controls are in place and effective
• How to prioritize remediation efforts
• Real-world examples of recent attacks that leveraged misconfigured systems

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
