Bio-Key provides a privacy preserving methodology for strong biometric authentication in identity management systems. The goal is to allow for multifactor authentication while keeping the raw biometric data private and under the user's control. The scheme extracts features from biometrics like images or vectors during enrollment, then stores and transmits only the extracted data, keeping the raw inputs private. Researchers from Purdue University's Computer Science and Industrial Technology departments are collaborating on improving biometric standards, assurance, and privacy preservation through this work.
