PowerApps, the Developer Story: Build an API to Integrate Corporate DataBram de Jager
Microsoft released PowerApps to a selective audience as a private preview in November 2015. It’s a service for enterprises to connect data across clouds to create intelligent business apps faster than ever before and share them to any device. Besides addressing the business developer and power user, it also provides opportunities for developers. This enables enterprises to expose corporate internal sources to be used within PowerApps and unleash the power of PowerApps combined with internal data sources. This session goes into the details of the possibilities for developers to leverage the Azure App Services and build APIs to use within your PowerApps. Live demos cover building and managing the API which exposes the internal data within a PowerApp on your device.
With every new Microsoft announcement, it is clear that PowerApps is evolving to be Cloud Business Application platform of choice. New changes are merging Canvas and Model Driven worlds thus providing unified tool/platform to solve business problems. That is why Comtrade has developed Business ToolBox - several everyday small business applications to support this path and customers.
This is a presentation from Sinergija 19. Presentation is covering platform overview, step-by-step process of application creation and tackle licensing changes and benefits.

ActiveMigrate for Legal - It's Time to Move from eDocs, iManage or other Lega...Zia Consulting
For many legal organizations - from AmLaw 250 firms to Fortune 500 Corporate Legal - the "why" is clear. They are tired of expensive, complex legacy ECM systems, where "ECM avoidance" is more prevalent then user adoption. The questions that remain are "where" and "how". Specifically, whether to move to another proprietary legal ECM such as HP, OpenText or others; or whether to move to a cloud sharing technology such as NetDocs or Box.net. And then once the decision is made, "how" to get there.
During this presentation, we outline why Alfresco is the ideal "where" and then discuss the strategy and framework we've developed and termed ActiveMigrate™, greatly reducing the risk of "how" to get there. We will review why you don't have to settle for a choice between costly and complex proprietary systems vs. the security concerns and lack of enterprise functionality that comes from cloud sharing technologies.
Learn how Alfresco delivers:
-Role-Based, Dynamic Matter Management
-Simple Internal/External Collaboration
-Integration from Office/Email to Billing & HR
-Solutions for the "Paper Problem"
-Secure Enterprise Mobile
We will then detail ActiveMigrate - comprised of seven steps, our effective approach is based on 10+ years of migration experience and countless migration projects. These steps will help you define your business drivers, break down your project into critical components, and ensure that you can continue to utilize your documents throughout the migration process.

What Makes Migrating to the Cloud Different Than On-PremisesChristian Buckley
My second presentation from #SPTechCon Boston 2014, focusing on the limitations and performance concerns of migration to SharePoint Online (part of Office 365).
This informative slide deck contains two presentations, one by Simon Hudson from Cloud2 about Microsoft SharePoint best practice and moving to the cloud. This is followed by an overview of performance monitoring and best practice for SharePoint applications by Mick McGuinness from Appplication Performance Ltd.
It is well known that with the release of SharePoint 2013, Microsoft is shifting its recommended method for customizing and building applications to a client side “App Model” development paradigm.
This has caused many organizations to invest large amounts of time and energy in rewriting solutions or to stop customizing SharePoint and building solutions altogether.
In this session we will cover:
- The current limitations with developing enterprise solutions using the App Model and only client side technologies
- The key decision points when architecting your solutions
- How to determine when the App Model approach is the right solution for your project, when it may NOT be the right solution.
- How to architect and deliver full trust solutions in a way that will allow you to convert your solution and move to the cloud in a seamless and low impact way.

Manage Content In-Place, Migrate as Needed for Records and RetentionZia Consulting
How many different places can content be stored? Most people point to email, shared drives, or cloud storage apps like Box, Google Drive, and Sharepoint. Then, there are applications specific locations like Salesforce, SAP, and Peoplesoft. On top of that, many companies have three to ten different enterprise content management repositories.
Join Zia Consulting’s Steve Studer for an interactive, rapid fire discussion on how to reduce operational risk by managing content in-place and migrating as needed for records and disposition. In this session, he will discuss:
*Storing content in multiple repositories
*Securing content in-place
*Reducing risk by identifying PII and ROT content
*Leveraging tools to identify documents of record
*Using a primary records management system to migrate documents to a content repository as needed
What’s Redundant, Obsolete, and Trivial Content (ROT) What’s Not?Zia Consulting
This session will help you determine what information is “redundant, obsolete, and trivial (ROT)” so that you can trim the fat and operate your decision-making and IG more effectively.
Controlling the Complexity of Content LifecyclesZia Consulting
With the volumes of content your organization produces, are you looking to simplify the way information can be updated, translated, or reused? Structured authoring and component content management (CCM) have become indispensable tools of the trade. This presentation will address how these tools can work for you, from making revisions easier to update across an entire library of documents (PDF, HTML, eBook, etc.) to reducing the costs associated with translation to multiple languages (Spanish, Chinese, etc.). The technology we cover in this webinar will include oXygen, Componize, and Alfresco—and how Zia implements it all. We’ll share use cases including the management of content that’s shared in multiple formats and languages, and assembling content when the distributed information originates from multiple sources.

—Why organizations leverage XML and DITA
—The cost savings that result from the efficiencies of these technologies
Streamlining Information Transfer for Energy and UtilitiesZia Consulting
The speed at which content and information flows between organizations that manage our energy and utilities infrastructure is growing exponentially. When you think about the amount of collaboration that must occur between owner operators, engineering procurement and construction companies (EPCs), and the gambit of state and federal regulatory bodies, it is imperative to identify and mitigate any potential disruptions to the information flow.
Over the last 25 years, Steve Studer has worked with a wide spectrum of these organizations providing insights and best practices around effective content management and change control. Steve will talk about his experiences in providing frictionless information transfers between organizations, systems, and the people and processes supporting them. Some of the concepts Steve will touch on during this session include digital handovers, effective content creation and dissemination, and information audit and analytics tools that can automate and improve business decisions.
Key points of this session include:
• Managing steam data as well as static documents
• Documents of record vs version noise
• Content dissemination and consumption
• Content federation
• Audit and analytics
• Content retention and governance
Transforming the Accounts Payable Process, Powered by BoxZia Consulting
For most organizations, the vast majority of invoices are still processed as “paper,” regardless of whether they arrive as printed documents or electronic versions such as PDFs, Word documents, or others. To process these invoices, many accounts payable departments still rely on mostly manual methods, despite studies showing that companies who have implemented automated invoice processing see costs that are up to four times less per invoice. Whether it’s the paper cost or people cost, missed supplier discounts or late payment penalties, the dollar amount can be significant for even the smallest of companies.
Join Zia Consulting and Box on November 7th to learn how we can digitally upgrade and streamline your invoice process. We’ll demonstrate how the Zia AP Cloud Powered by Box incorporates:
* Intelligent document capture for content ingestion, classification, extraction, and validation into Box
* Offer your vendors a view into your process to avoid costly interruptive phone calls or emails
* Enhanced business process management solutions for quick and efficient workflows in the cloud
* Provide visibility into your cashflow management with proven analytical tools to monitor the effectiveness of your processes and people
* Seamless integration with critical LOB applications required to manage your invoices and payments
With our Zia AP Cloud solution, you can reduce errors from manual data entry and avoid penalties and fees from late or incorrect payments.

In 2016, IBM announced their partnership with UNICOM for future development of Content Manager OnDemand (CMOD). While IBM maintains that nothing has changed from a business perspective, they have significantly reduced the CMOD sales team and are no longer handling support. Therefore, it appears that the future of CMOD is uncertain. If you are a current or prospective customer of CMOD, there are three things to consider when analyzing a product that has recently been sold to another corporation.
Can the new provider deliver the support you need to be successful with a product they didn’t build?
Are they truly committed to the product’s features?
Are they trying to lock you into a proprietary cloud service?
During this presentation we will address the challenges of maintaining the CMOD platform and offer an alternative solution: Mobius by ASG Technologies. Zia and ASG have experience in the intricacies of a CMOD rollout and customization as well as in the planning and execution of migrating from a mainframe (or other legacy) repository to Mobius—on-premises or in the cloud.

Insurers are in a constant race to stay ahead of the competition, find ways to reduce costs, and still increase throughput while keeping customers happy. While it may seem like a daunting task to do more with less, it is possible if you leverage the right technologies.
Two leading technologies are the Insurance Document Automation Solution from Zia Consulting and VirtualViewer® HTML5 from Snowbound. When combined, they provide what you need to cross the finish line ahead of the rest.
Join us for this presentation to discover how to:
-Expedite your claims processing with streamlined collaboration – Users can open multiple documents in one tabbed window, compare documents side by side with a split screen, split and merge documents, and leverage XML-based annotations and true secure redactions.
-Ensure remote access to claims – Empower external and internal users—including agents, call center representatives, adjusters, and underwriters—to review and process claims from any location and on any device with a web browser (mobile, tablet, etc.) without needing to download additional applications.
-Immediately view only the content you need – Unique Page On Demand technology eliminates the need for users to wait for entire documents to download or stream so the content you need to review opens in seconds.
-Enhance automated compliance and archiving efforts – Meeting compliance demands can be complicated by policy changes or claims that are introduced over the life of the policy—changes that can be hard to track. Reduce the risk of non-compliance and provide on-demand, universal access to critical content and audit trails of document workflows.
Unlock the Power of Handwriting Recognition to Optimize Your Business ProcessesZia Consulting
While OCR technology has evolved substantially, it still struggles with handwriting recognition. However, modern machine learning offers new tools to solve long-standing challenges. New software solutions can now optimize complex business processes by turning even hand-filled paper documents into business-ready data automatically.
Learn how leading insurance, financial services, and healthcare companies are leveraging new technology to automate processing of their paper-to-digital operations (including handwritten forms). You’ll hear how New York Life and five of the top 10 U.S. insurers have gained efficiencies and enabled critical business improvements with a 99.9% accuracy rate.
Shared Drives and Content Sprawl—What To DoZia Consulting
There are two common approaches to shared drives. One is considered day forward with people, processes, and technology that align with a company’s content strategy. The second, is a backfile, or the approach we take to cleaning up issues seen in our content management.
As the largest collection of documents in your organization, removing shared drives suggests massive change management and expense. However, if approached correctly, it doesn’t have to be complex, expensive, or disruptive—and you can continue to provide a file system. Through proper methodologies, content is not duplicated and an alternative user interface is applied to the DMS. User adoption is also increased by leveraging the simple shared drive, and efficiency is increased by offering tools that automate common tasks.
We will review the methods for classifying information, what you are able to accomplish with policy evolution, and the technologies and methods available to limit the sprawl of content.
Moving on From Kofax... Why, How, and Where?Zia Consulting
Many organizations have concerns with the whirlwind of activities around Kofax, from the changing ownership structure to changing the business focus away from capture. This has led to questions about whether it's time to move on from Kofax to an alternative capture solution.
While not every company is ready to make the move, for many the "why" to move away from Kofax has become more clear. However, concerns exist around how to move your business to a modern intelligent capture platform. And of course, that also leaves the question of where to move to.
In this webinar, we will review each of these topics in depth—with our recommendations on when, how, and where to move. We will discuss our specific migration methodology, with best practices for modernizing your capture solution based on our experience from dozens of successful projects. In the webinar we will specifically cover the impact of:
* Lexmark's recent sale to a group of Chinese investors
* The ever-growing complexity of Kofax software
* Kofax's move to focus more on business process solutions than capture
We will finish with a look at how Ephesoft SmartCapture is the ideal modern alternative to Kofax, delivering intelligent classification and extraction from mailroom automation to embedded and mobile capture.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Let's dive deeper into the world of ODC! Ricardo Alves (OutSystems) will join us to tell all about the new Data Fabric. After that, Sezen de Bruijn (OutSystems) will get into the details on how to best design a sturdy architecture within ODC.
GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Sharepoint upgrade doesn't seems to have got any easier with
2013, and in fact things seemed to have got much worse.
Gartner Report "Sharepoint 2013"
Finally, for IT leaders considering migration to 2013, Microsoft
doesn't support upgrades that skip generations, adding to the
burden for users currently still on 2007, who might otherwise
consider a migration to 2013 if they did not have added
challenge of having to migrate through 2010 first. Inplace
migration to SharePoint 2013 is also not possible. Developers
must use the database attach method, which involves creating
a copy of the existing 2010 database and attaching it to a fresh
2013 environment, a more involved (but safer) process than
the in-place method that was available for earlier upgrades
