SharePoint Online vs On-premises vs Hybrid – 2016 editionRene Modery
With SharePoint 2013, Microsoft added hybrid capabilities, allowing organizations to connect their existing on-premises environments to Office 365. SharePoint 2016 expands these capabilities a bit. But in which scenarios is this helpful? How much has changed in the past few years? When does a hybrid scenario make sense, and what are its limitations?

Modernizing Enterprise Content Management with Microsoft Content Services
SharePoint content services (ECM): What's new and what's coming
See firsthand how we continue to push Enterprise Content Management (ECM) forward into the modern content services world. SharePoint in the cloud is far more performant than classic server-based platforms. In this session, get a tour of our latest and upcoming innovations for reusing, creating, collaborating, and protecting information through its lifecycle. SharePoint has numerous key ECM capabilities (intake, content types, bulk edits, retention, data governance labels) across each of these scenarios to make content management easier and more manageable.

SPS Monaco 2017 - The Lay of the Land of Client-Side Development circa 2017Marc D Anderson
Are you dazzled by all the noises you hear about client-side development? Do the grunts and gulps leave you a little confused? In this session, we’ll talk about the types of things you can do with client-side development, how SharePoint can be used as a service (SPaaS?) and what the popular tool sets are. This are moving fast, so it's guaranteed that between writing this abstract and doing the session, things will have changed.
Whether you’re a server-side developer who wants to catch up with the new trends, a power user wanting to flex your muscles in new ways, or an end user who would like to speak more intelligently with IT, this session will provide useful foundation information as well as a guide to where your learning should progress to work with "modern" SharePoint.

SPFx- A modern development model for SharePointKirti Prajapati
SharePoint Framework (SPFx) promoted as "the future of SharePoint development" has been released in developer preview. The framework might be new, but that is a framework that we all have been longing for quite some time. Client-side development has been here for years and we all built our own frameworks. This model leverages techniques we are used to such as CSOM, the SharePoint REST API's, the Microsoft Graph etc. and at the same time embraces open source technologies such as node.js, Gulp, Yeoman and more.
I will talk about SharePoint Development Model Evolution and demonstrate use of Light Weight Components with SPFx by developing client side Web Parts.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Designing Great Products: The Power of Design and Leadership by Chief Designe...
Modern SharePoint Development - A quick guide
1. A quick guide to
The SharePoint Framework
and Modern Intranet
Development
2. Why is SharePoint introducing the client-side development model?
With the evolution of
Office 365 and cloud SaaS solutions,
and the increasingly web-based
world, existing development models
for SharePoint encounter
constraints of the Iframe, a reduced
set of APIs and inability to integrate
across Office 365 workloads.
Developers need a more efficient
toolchain and model that allows
them to scale beyond the current
constraints. The client-side
development framework will deliver
capabilities that will help Microsoft
engineers, partners, customers and
developers throughout the
community build powerful, rich
applications that are both intuitive
and simple to consume
3. Will new document libraries support customization?
When we launch the new document
library experience, we will continue to
support declarative CustomActions that
represent menu and command actions.
Many first release customers are
currently reporting issues around this
functionality; we will address these issues
before broad worldwide release of the
new experience, or making the new
experience the default experience in any
library.
Yes.
4. Solutions that are currently deployed that make use of this mechanism should continue to
work as before, with actions appearing in the new command surface in addition to the
Ribbon in classic mode. CustomActions that deploy script, JSLinks, and additional web
parts on the page are currently not supported. Environments that require these
unsupported features should continue using classic mode for the time being.
Throughout this year, we will be addressing critical scenario gaps to make the new
document library experience support custom processes, commands and other
functionality required for complex, business-critical workflows in complex organizations.
Specific capabilities we are investigating building include the ability to host web parts on
the page, the ability to define custom view layouts and conditional formatting, and the
ability to be visually customized and branded with client-side design packages.
Will new document libraries support customization?
5. Microsoft have plans to bring the SharePoint
Framework to SharePoint Server 2016
through their Feature Pack model
Will this be available only in SharePoint 2016 on premise?
We currently have a SharePoint 2013 farm on premise.
Coming soon.
6. The SharePoint Framework does not
make obsolete nor deprecate the
existing Add-In Model for SharePoint.
What does this mean for App model? Is that deprecated?
No.
