Evolving Strategies for Open Access Implementation: Some Findings from the Op...OpenAIRE
A year an a half into its implementation, the EC post-grant funding initiative for FP7 projects run under the OpenAIRE2020 project is already producing some findings, both in the area of APC-based Gold Open Access and in providing support to APC-free Open Access journals and platforms. While exploring the rather fragmented Open Access landscape across Europe, this presentation will look into the evolution of the multiple parallel strategies for Open Access implementation under the light of the work carried out within this post-grant funding initiative. It's argued that a widespread progress will require support for the different co-existing strategies.

Healthcare Interoperability: New Tactics and TechnologyHealth Catalyst
Every provider agrees on the need for healthcare interoperability to achieve clinical data insights at the point of care. The question is how to get there from the myriad technologies and the volumes of data that comprise electronic medical records. It’s been difficult to organize among participants that have had little incentive to cooperate. And standards for sending and receiving data have been slow to develop. This is changing, but the key components that are still vital to realizing insights are closed-loop analytics and its accompanying tools, an enterprise data warehouse and analytics applications. This article defines the problems and explores the solutions to optimizing clinical decision making where it’s needed most.

5 Standards-based Content Resources: A Prerequisite for Content Integration a...AEGIS-ACCESSIBLE Projects
Given the fact that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) today are developing in the direction of ubiquitous and pervasive computing, and that linguistic content items are increasingly combined with or embedded in non-linguistic content items (and vice versa), a systemic and generic approach to data modelling and content management has become the order of the day. Content integration and content interoperability are the key concepts in this connection. In many applications, such as in eAccessibility/eInclusion, content often must be totally reliable – therefore, it needs certification and validation for many different kinds of content. Standards-based datamodels and standardized content facilitate such certification and validation, which also should be based on standards. Needless to say that the above-mentioned approach has a big impact on software development, as can be gathered from document MoU/MG/05 N0221 "Semantic Interoperability and the need for a coherent policy for a framework of distributed, possibly federated repositories for all kinds of content items on a world-wide scale", which was adopted in 2005. See: http://isotc.iso.org/livelink/livelink/fetch/2000/2489/Ittf_Home/MoUMG/Moumg221.pdf. It also has an impact on future ICT-related standards as can be seen from MoU/MG/05 N0222 "Statement on eBusiness Standards and Cultural Diversity". See: http://isotc.iso.org/livelink/livelink/fetch/2000/2489/Ittf_Home/MoUMG/Moumg222.pdf. Increasingly required today are modularity and comprehensive interoperability, capability for multilinguality and multimodality, based on open standards. Fulfilling these requirements will make software and database design fit for eAccessibility/eInclusion from the outset. It will also make content – first of all structured content at the level of lexical semantics – fit for different kinds of content integration and content interoperability. Such structured content – especially if standardized and made available in the form of content repositories – enhances the potential for re-use in totally different eApplications. It also increases the reliability of data, thus reducing the risk of all sorts and liability. This contribution attempts to show how standards-based approaches for content standardization, content management, content related services and tools and their certification not only guarantee reliable content integration and content interoperability, but also are of particular benefit to people with special needs in eAccessibility/eInclusion.
Integrating research grade model indexing technologies to commercial modellin...Marcos Almeida
Softeam is a French company with more than 20 years of experience producing UML-based modelling environments on top of its Modelio CASE tool. With the increase of complexity of models and modelling teams, came the demand for supporting scalable collaborative tools for modelling. This new demand lead to the creation of Constellation, Softeam’s enterprise model management solution. As part of this effort, Softeam joined the MONDO FP7 EU project, which develops tools and methodologies for dealing with the challenges of scalability in model driven engineering. In this experimentation, we will describe the integration of the model indexer Hawk produced by the Enterprise Systems research group at the University of York into the commercial modelling tool Modelio and into its Constellation collaboration tools, produced by Softeam. The focus of this presentation will be on the technical difficulties of integrating with commercial production grade tools, and on a benchmark of the performance of this integration. In summary, Hawk integration was performed by Softeam engineers; a functional prototype was obtained in three months, and this prototype was subsequently improved until the end of the project. On the benchmarking side, for big models, we found out that in some situations Hawk index requires half the space required by Modelio to store models, and that combining Hawk and EGL generates documents between two and three orders of magnitude faster than Modelio itself.

Connected health data meets the people: Diversity, Standards, and Trustchronaki
Using health data in a connected world requires new competencies, a personal digital health compass calibrated to individual personalities and needs. Patients and clinicians able to collect and manage data, data-operational informatics professionals able to analyze data, and cutting-edge researchers, innovators, and educators able to apply knowledge, will take learning health systems to the next level.
In this EFMI-HL7 event using innovative technology and surprises to engage the audience, we will discuss strategies for empowering and activating people to engage, share and use their health data. We will point to diversity, trust and open standards like HL7 FHIR to open up access and capacities to manage data safely for patients, care-givers, and the health system.

eHealth Practice in Europe: where do we stand?chronaki
eHealth as the use of Information and communication technologies in the practice of health care comprises Electronic health records, Healthcare information exchange cross-jurisdictions, Personal health records, Telehealth, telemedicine and remote monitoring.
There are several efforts to reflect and measure the practice of eHealth including efforts by the OECD and WHO, but in general there is little reported sharing of health data particularly with patients. Specific barriers frequently mentioned are supporting policies and coherent widely implemented standards.
The presentation discusses relevant efforts and programs supported by the European Commission such as the eHealth DSI, eStandards, ASSESS CT, and openMedicine aiming at large scale eHealth adoption It calls for engagement of European Society, its national societies, and its members.

In search of a digital health compass: My data, my decision, our powerchronaki
Knowledge is power. Despite extensive investments in digital health technology, navigating the health system online is challenging for most citizens. Also for eHealth, the “Inverse Care Law” proposed by Hart in 1971, seems to apply. Availability of good medical or social care services and tools online, varies inversely with the need of the population. The low adoption of eHealth services, and persistent disparities in health triggers a call for multidisciplinary action.
Barriers and challenges are not to be underestimated. Culture, education, skills, costs, perceptions of power and role, are essential for multidisciplinary action. This comes together in digital health literacy, which ought to become an integral part to navigate any health system. Patients living with an implanted device or coping with persistent, chronic disease such as diabetes, as well as citizens engaged in self-care, caring for an elderly relative, a neighbor, or their child with illness or deteriorating health, need a digital health compass.
The panel will engage the audience to elaborate on a vision for this personal, digital health compass and drive advancement in health informatics and digital health standards. The transformative power of health data fueled by targeted digital health literacy interventions can be leveraged by open, massive, and individualized delivery. This way, digital health literate, confident patients and citizens join health professionals, researchers and policy makers to address age-related health and wellness changes to shape the emerging precision medicine and population health initiatives.

eHealth Consumers in the Age of Hyper-Personalizationchronaki
Where the Internet of Things meets healthcare we see a plethora of tools, gadgets, and apps that promise to improve life, health, and independence. As patients, family members ofr friends, we are subsumed under the term "eHealth consumers”. For us it is increasingly hard to navigate in the unfolding digital reality dominated by new gadgets, and fragmented information, data, and knowledge we don’t control. More personalized and targeted products, services, and content could alleviate this. In this slide deck we are specifically focusing on challenges and opportunities for personalization in view of varying eHealth literacy, lifestyle and health goals.

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.
Stay informed, stay safe, and get your flu shot today!
