This document summarizes research on developing biodegradable nano-hydrogels for use in agricultural farming as an alternative water resource. The research synthesized silver-coated poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid)/nanoclay superabsorbent hydrogels and characterized their properties. Scanning electron microscopy showed the nanoparticles had a mean diameter of 200nm. Testing found the hydrogels absorbed up to 190 g of water per gram and improved the water-holding capacity of soil by 7.5% compared to untreated soil. The silver-coated hydrogels also exhibited longer water retention in soil compared to non-coated hydrogels or soil alone, prolonging the time between irrigations. The research
