Abstract
Background: Porcine parvovirus (PPV), a member of the Parvoviridae family, causes great
economic loss in the swine industry worldwide. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of non–protein–
coding genes that play many diverse and complex roles in viral infections.
Finding: Aiming to determine the impact of PPV infections on the cellular miRNAome, we used
high–throughput sequencing to sequence two miRNA libraries prepared from porcine kidney 15
(PK–15) cells under normal conditions and during PPV infection. There was differential miRNA
expression between the uninfected and infected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We detected the expression of miR–10b, miR–20a, miR–19b, miR–181a, miR–146b, miR–18a, and
other previously identified immune–related miRNAs. Gene
Ontology analysis and KEGG function annotations of the host target genes suggested that the
miRNAs are involved in complex cellular pathways, including cellular metabolic processes,
immune system processes, and gene expression.
Conclusions: These data suggest that a large group of miRNAs is expressed in PK–15 cells and that
some miRNAs were altered in PPV–infected PK–15 cells. A number of microRNAs play an
important role in regulating immune–related gene expression. Our findings should help with the
development of new control strategies to prevent or treat PPV infections in swine.

Heritage Assessment
Culture is defined as the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society group place of time
(Culture, 2013). The heritage assessment tool is a great method used to assess health maintenance,
protection, and restoration of each individual's cultural beliefs. The heritage assessment tool is often
used by healthcare providers to help determine different cultural beliefs that may or may not impact
an individuals care. The heritage assessment tool has been used to compare three different cultured
families, health traditions, addressing health maintenance, health protection, and health restoration.

The third interview conducted was with a Chinese family (The Wang's). The Wang family consists
of the parents and 2 children that all play an active role in Buddhism. The Wang's were all born in
Chengdu, China and migrated to the United States 5 years ago. The Wang's primary language is
Mandarin. The father and two children also speak English. The Wang family doesn't communicate
much with their extended family. All extended family still reside in Chengdu, China. The Wang
family is very private when dealing with or talking about their health. They express no current
health concerns. The Wang family maintains good health through eating healthy; they eat large
amounts of vegetables rice and fish. The Wang family uses health protection by positive thinking,
and meditation. The Wang's also state that they see a physician on a regular basis for check ups. As
far as interviewing The Wang's it was difficult to obtain specific information on their past or current
health beliefs. The Wang's appeared to be a private family (Wang, 2013).
Comparing the three interviews, it is apparent that all three cultures could require a different
healthcare approach. It is interesting to see the family dynamics, and pasts all play a role in their
healthcare decision–making and thoughts. Being aware that each family dynamic is unique it is
important to avoid stereotypes, and get

Ai Weiweei Research Paper
The way art can be activism is to spread messages through art to promote change or awareness.
Artist can does this in many ways such as painting or drawing political art to express their opinion.
Other artist can do performance art or take photographs to spread awareness or send a message. Ai
WeiWei is a chinese artist and activist that created many controversial pieces of art towards the
chinese government. His activism started when he saw how the chinese government handled the
devastating earthquake in 2008. On may 12 2008 a 8.0 earthquake hit Chengdu, in China.Over
69,000 people lost their lives in the quake, including 68,636 in Sichuan province. 374,176 were
reported injured, with 18,222 listed as missing as of July 2008.The earthquake left about 4.8 million
people homeless. Many of these victims were children who died in poorly build government
schools.Ai WeiWei started to collect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other forms of art or actions that could be perceived as art created by Ai WeiWei to express activism
against the chinese government would be many photographs of him flipping off chinese government
monuments and buildings this is all his forms of art to express himself and spread a message. One
big project was creating a moral out of backpacks in memory of a 7 year old girl who dies in the
earthquake this is an example of art being used to remember a life and many other lives lost. A very
controversial work of art he did was write coca cola on a sacred political chinese vase and posted a
video of him breaking it this is to highlight how people dwell on destroying a vase and consider it
wrong or immoral to china but its to show how the same kind of destruction happens everyday
without people really thinking about. Another motivation for doing this by Ai WeiWei was to
express how the past should be destroyed and quoted a slogan saying we can destroy the old world
but we can also build a new

Preserving Historic District Conservation Project
A historic district or heritage district is a section of a city which contains older buildings considered
valuable for historical or architectural reasons. This definition first appeared in Athens Charter,
1933. In China, any region that is classified as a historical district should contain a group of
buildings that have cultural heritage significance with relatively integrated exterior and structures.
All of these historic districts are cultural artifacts, and their stories are entwined with relevant human
civilization. Thus, for cultural heritage conservation, 99 National Historic and Culturally Famous
Towns have been promulgated by Chinese State Council in three groups since 1982. At the same
time, different provinces and autonomous regions have also issued their own list of Historical and
Culturally Famous communities. However, I considered that during the implementation of
promoting historic district conservation project, many people misunderstand the initial purpose and
the process of restoration. Therefore, huge numbers of cultural heritages were transformed to "fake
antique", and the cultural heritage value of relevant places has been seriously diminished.
Currently, historic districts are seriously affected by urban modernization and commercialization.
During different parties are willing to take part in relevant conservation project, how to maintain a
balance between development and cultural heritage conservation has become one of most popular
issue in

Polyaniline Essay
Much waste heat of low temperature is released and no viable technology exists can produce
electricity from this low energy density heat, so the long sought–after class thermoelectric (TE)
material which directly achieve conversion between thermal and electrical energy obtain many
attention. However, the traditional TE materials are alloys of inorganic materials and expensive, and
most of them have some level of toxicity, so the research about organic TE materials is very
important. The polyaniline (PANI, i.e. one kind of conducting polymer) and PANI matrix

and TE properties were investigated by FTIR, XRD, SEM and ZEM. Results showed that the ...

Additionally, some inorganic elements have some level of toxicity for the environment follows with
the low natural abundance. Thereby, in the present scenario it is unrealistic to enable a widespread
use of thermoelectric installations forwaste heat recovery. However, organic electronic
materials, especially conducting polymers (i.e. basing on abundant elements, light weight, low–cost
large–area flexible and non–toxic), start to draw attention asmore economical alternatives to
conventional TE materials [19 – 21].
To evaluate the energy conversionefficiency of a TE material, a dimensionless Figure of merit (ZT),
is introduced to quantify the performance of TE materials and is defined as
with: S: Seebeck coefficient, σ: Electrical conductivity, T : Absolute temperature, S2σ: Power factor
andκ : Thermal conductivity.
Good TE materials require ahigh power factor, a high σ and a lowκ, so the polymers are expected to
play an important role in the TE materials because of its low κ.
Conducting polymers are one of the mostly studiednovel materials for thermoelectric
materials. These versatile materials exhibit not only the electricalconductivity of semiconductors but
also the generalbehaviors of polymers. Polyaniline (PANI), oneof the most extensively investigated

more customers. Sina Weibo is a Chinese microblogging website, and it is one of the most popular
social tools in China. Sina Weibo was launched on August 14, 2009, and it has 222 million
subscribers and 100 million daily users by the third season of 2015. Sina Weibo provides many ways
to access it, for example, users can post word messages or upload photos through online website,
WAP, mobile applications, and mobile phone text. There are five type of posts on Weibo, original
words, picture, video, music and article. And users can share their feeling, thinking and even their
daily life on Weibo anywhere and anytime. On this microblogging websites, people can follow
others, discuss with others, and share their opinions with everyone. Sina Weibo also has its
identification policy. Because there are many famous people and organization users create their
official account on Sina Weibo, once those users who get through the verification on the internet, a
blue or gold 'V' will be added behind their user name. Moreover, there is a list called HOT TOPIC

South West of China: The Sichuan Province Essay
Sichuan
Introduction
In terms of size, Sichuan is the fifth largest province to the southwest of China, and it has two
distinct geographical parts. One part lies within the eastern part of the province and is largely
characterized by a fertile area known as the Sichuan basin. The western part of the province is
characterized by a highly mountainous geography. The eastern part is surrounded by a series of
lower mountain ranges from the east, south, and north. The province has a competitive economy that
matches that of fully declared countries in terms of GDP and per capita income. By 2008, the
province had transacted more than US$ 22 billion in terms of foreign trade, translating into a yearly
surge of 53.3%. While these figures are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is enhanced by a favorable climate that varies throughout the year to favor the production of
different agricultural products at different seasons in the year.
By adopting the role of an executive of Wal–Mart, I will systematically detail the geographical
attributes of Sichuan province that make it favorable for foreign investments. This is in addition to
explaining why it is plausible for Wal–Mart to set up a store or a factory in the province. This will
be done through an analysis of the geographical aspects of the province that suit the establishment of
Wal–Mart store given its line of business. For starters, Wal–Mart is a corporation dealing in discount
departmental stores that deal in a wide range of merchandise at lower prices than in standard stores.
The company has over 6000 stores away from the US with over 800000 employees. These numbers
are based in twenty–six countries, most of which are based in Europe, and both American
continents.
Geographical analysis of Sichuan In an aim to understand whether Sichuan is a good location for
foreign investors, many important aspects must be considered. The geographical positioning of this
area is a good indication of how good this area can support business operations, which in turn attract
foreign investors to set up their business in this area. The area of Sichuan is believed to be 485000
square kilometers and has its

The National Pedagogy And Transformation Of Leisure Concept

circumstance, every level of governments prioritised economy development as their first agenda.
While facing with material civilization and spiritual civilization, a dilemma how to balance these

was treated as the bourgeoisie idleness impeded for the development of socialism society and then
had been cursed, while, the perception towards leisure is transforming. Initially, Deng and his
followers place conservative perception towards leisure. Since, in the early reform era, without
proper guidance, ordinary individuals plunged into the irrational leisure or negative idleness, and
that negative idleness may impede the development economy. While similar thing also happened in
the early 20th century West Europe and the America, pastimes or idleness for example computer
games, drinking to pop music of wasting time. As a counter–mechanism, Max Weber recalled the
Capitalist's Protestant work ethic, which advocates hard working to create wealth because the 'the
end is near' and argues to be leisure is sinful . In this logic, the CPC proposed a discourse of
civilised (wenming), healthy (jiankang) and educational (you jiaoyu yiyi) leisure ethic. It
emphasizes the wenhua (culture capital) quality (suzhi) through work–oriented mechanism by

Topic: Expressed Emotion, Attribution, and Control in Parents of Schizophrenic Patients
In this study, Peterson and Docherty examines the emotional state of parents with schizophrenic
young adults. The intent of this research was to detect whether or not overinvolved parents of
schizophrenic people, blame themselves for the patients' illness, as well as controlling behavior
toward others. 54 parents of schizophrenic patients were assessed with the Camberwell Family
Interview. As a result, parents who were overly involved blamed themselves for the patients' illness
more than parents who were less controlling. This research is a valuable source for my research, it is
a concise overview of the role parents play in the development and treatment for young adults with
schizophrenia.

Initial entry strategies. Starbucks articulated an entry strategy that was designed to be as inoffensive
to the Chinese culture as possible. Instead of taking the conventional approach with advertising and
promotions which could have been seen by potential Chinese consumers as attacking their culture of
drinking tea they positioned stores in high–traffic and high visibility locations. Moreover, Starbucks
very deliberately began to bridge the gap between the tea drinking culture and the coffee drinking
culture by introducing beverages in the Chinese stores that included local tea–based ingredients.
Competitive internationalization strategy. The overarching competitive strategy was to create an
aspirational brand. Prospective Starbucks customers in China could look forward to what Starbucks
refers to as "The Third Place" experience. The Starbucks experience conveys status that is highly
appealing to those aspiring to Western standards or to climbing the ladder in their own culture.
Maintaining brand consistency. When Starbucks opens a new store in an emerging market like
China, the best baristas are sent for the launch and to conduct training of the baristas who will carry

Analysis Of The Book ' Wild Swans ' By Jung Chang Essay
Family loyalty in China has had a tumultuous past filled with fluctuation between remaining loyal to
the state, yet also remaining loyal to blood relatives. In the autobiography that also serves as a
biography, Wild Swans, by Jung Chang, this is seen. The book, which outlines the biographies of the
author's grandmother and mother, as well as her own autobiography, gives an interesting look into
the lives of the Chinese throughout the 20th century. This book is beyond eye opening, and is truly a
raw glimpse into the daily lives of women throughout China, struggling with situations that no
human should ever be thrown into. I loved this book and was truly scared about the world that it
opened me up to. The book does many things well, but also has its faults. The author consistently
and clearly exemplifies the social hierarchy that consumes China, as well as its obsession with
cultural stagnancy. The author also gives intense imagery that thrusts the reader into the scene, and
creates a new reality showcasing the truths of China. Although both of those things take main stage
in the book, there are a few weaknesses in the book. One, asking the question of how she had such
clear anecdotes on her grandmother and mother's life, how did she have such intimate details? The
second shortcoming that Jung Chang had a subjective view of China, partly being that she loves
China despite the cards it has dealt her. Her life was not short of hardships, but her family was

Earthquake Sichuan
In May 2008, a memorial tragedy has carved our heart. More than 60,000 of our compatriots died in
the Great Sichuan Earthquake. It was a once–in–a–year strong earthquake registering a magnitude of
7.8 measured in the Richter scale.
The province where the earthquake took place, Sichuan, is in western China and its capital is named
Chengdu. It is surrounded by the Sichuan Basin. In the Great Sichuan earthquake, the epicenter was
in Wenchuan County, Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, which is 80 km north–
west of Chengdu; and its depth was 19 km. On May 12, 2008, the earthquake occurred at 14:28

Many people lost their homes, and students lost their opportunity of education for a period of time.
Later it was found that some buildings were too loosely structured; partly because of corruption.
Some workers did not do their best to build the buildings. In addition, the communication network
was destroyed. In Sichuan, Chongqing and Huabei, the communication was completely jammed.
The traffic network was also disrupted. Many highways or railways were cracked due to great
vibrations, and the international airport in Chengdu was closed. The roads must be closed for
maintenance. These have led to difficulty in relief work. Finally, some victims of the earthquake
stole or robbed stuff. After the earthquake, there were more crimes committed by the victims.
On the other hand, the Sichuan Earthquake brought environmental issues. In the affected areas,
clean water was inadequate. When people had to drink contaminated water, illnesses or diseases
may be developed. Also, in the areas, corpses were everywhere and we know how unhygienic it
was! Together with the warm temperature, the filthy place set up a good condition for diseases to
spread. To make the affected areas more hygienic, the death bodies must be incinerated, and
cleaning agents like insecticides must be sprayed regularly. Meanwhile, the affected areas were

entire establishment itself was completely alien. Chinese hospitals were simply not run the way
American hospitals were. These variations intrigued me and

The Aviation Industry Of China
AVIA3101 Individual Assignment

General
The aviation industry of China began for around half a century. As a developing country, the
economy of China has a massive increase, but the strictly controlled airspace and complicated
regulation limited the growth of China Aviation. Recently, new measures such as more efficient
airspace approval process, have improved the situation and giving hope that the market will rise. In
fact, the market has rapidly increased. As the China government giving ways to develop the aviation
industry, more and more have negotiated increased capacity with China, Australia is one of them.
In the past 10 years, the demand of travelling between Australia and China keep increasing at a high
rate, especially after 2009 (fig 1) [International Airline Activity–Time Series. 2015]. Due to the rise
in demand, major airlines such as Qantas China Eastern and China Southern have a massive
expansion in terms of no. of flights and route network. With annual passengers of around 850k,
China has become a key source market for Australia. Airports are also trying to attract Chinese
travelers. For example, in Sydney airport every Chinese New Year, Terminal 1 would celebrate with
Chinese–Themed declaration, launching simplified Chinese site and deployed Chinese–speaking
Ambassadors to assist Chinese customers in Terminal 1. China aviation industry is absolutely one of

Ruth Harkness: The Lady And The Panda
My husband, Bill and I were opposites, but we fit perfectly. I had been with Bill for ten years and
could not believe the love of my life was gone. When my husband bill died I received a relatively
small inheritance. I received about $20,000, which was not an unpleasant amount in 1936, but
wouldn't last more than a year for a fifth avenue address. This was the last thing that I would spend
time dwelling on. My husband decided to go on the expedition with four men with dreams of
capturing the giant panda. Though they deserted him long before he passed. I decided that I wouldn't

of mind that I have never had before, and a calmness that is a great relief. I began to worry about
how we were going to keep the panda alive, etc. so I began to think that a baby panda instead of an
adult was a good solution. Though, it would be hard enough to find a panda, a baby panda would be
impossible to find. "I was told that Western China was no place for a lone white women– especially
a woman with no experience in business or traveling. I did not believe it. I was also warned of the
present possibility of running into bandits in the interior of Szechwan and reminded that Bill had
been compelled to run back. I had done too much to admit defeat before I started." I soon began to
discard my Western ways. My American clothes were left behind in Shanghai. My Shanghai tailor
fashioned for me loose–cut, boxy jackets and matching trousers made out of blue cloth and coolies
wore. I was hoping to forget all things Western and absorb all things Chinese. Just miles out of
Chengdu there were reports of bandits in the area. We came across a man sprawled on the road next

The Teahouse: Small Business, Everyday Culture, and Public Politics in Chengdu, by Di Wang is a
novel that explores how the distinctive nature of teahouses influenced the economic, political, and
social spheres of Chengdu during the first half of the twentieth century. Wang begins with the
assertion that there were few other institutions in Chengdu during the time period of the 1900s to
1950s that were more important in everyday life than teahouses, and that no other city in China had
as many of them as Chengdu. This ubiquity and significance of teahouses in Chengdu is translated
into the notion that the culture of teahouses can begin to serve as a "microcosm," of the larger, urban

organizing the book topically, Wang grants his audience with the opportunity to better comprehend
and enjoy primary sources such as anecdotes, figures, and accounts related to teahouses––ultimately
exposing a logical thought process that the audience can follow. Additionally, such accounts come
together and result in a greatly enhanced understanding of the happenings in a Chengdu teahouse.
Yet, despite organizing these complementary subjects topically, Wang does make an effort to
account for the chronology of political developments. It is interesting to notice how he accounts for
change over time in teahouses from the developments in the social reform of the late Qing Era, the
Railroad Protection Movement, the 1911 Revolution, the early Republican period, the GMD and
Chinese Communist Party, the War of Resistance, and the Civil War. As historian, Wang structures
his novel in a topical and analytical fashion in which each chapter contributes meaningfully to his
argument.
In the first part of the novel, Wang attempts to explain how teahouses can be viewed as the typical,
small Chinese business. However, while adeptly showcasing the details of the

The Rent-Down Girl
The Chinese film Xiu Xiu: The Sent–Down Girl was produced by Joan Chen and Alice Chen and
directed by Joan Chen, with the screenplay also by her and Yan Geling. This movie is based on the
story "Tian Yu" by Yan Geling about a similar topic. In this film, the point of view of a previously
innocent teenage girl during the Sent–Down Movement in China is explored. However, over the
course of the film, that girl's, Xiu Xiu's, innocence is taken away. Xiu Xiu's loss of innocence was a
result of multiple factors: her assailants who used her for their own personal pleasure, the passivity
of other characters, Xiu Xiu's own loss of hope, gender roles ingrained in the cultural norms in
China, and the Chinese government's manipulation of youths during the Sent–Down Movement. To
what extent these factors are influenced the outcome of Xiu Xiu's fate is the real question. In
studying the various sources around this film, one cannot specifically determine which one cause is
the most prevalent. However, through a close study of the film's ... Show more content on

One of those symbolic motifs that the film follows is Xiu Xiu's obsession with washing. Chen
centers her film plot on Xiu Xiu's bathing and washing scenes in three locations: her home, an
outdoor pool made for her by Lao Jin, and in the tent. The director complicates what appears at first
to be Xiu Xiu's personal hygiene. Her constant bathing starts as a personal hygiene issue, but it soon
becomes a way to "wash away her sins." At the end of the film, this washing represent a means of
transformation. After Lao Jin shoots Xiu Xiu, he places her in the pool he made for her earlier in the
film, completing the film with the bookend of Xiu Xiu bathing. Bathing symbolically follows Xiu
Xiu's tragic journey from a big city of Chengdu to the Tibetan steppes, and from innocence to

China 's New Policy Plan
The Communist party in China has, for decades insisted that peasants, even those working in cities,
remain tied to their tiny plots of land to ensure political and economic stability. (Johnson,2014)
However, China's new policy is now to urbanize most of China as a way of mass modernization and
they are doing so, through the creation of new cities and massive relocation. Due to the large amount
of funds needed to create new cities, China's government has created a series of development
strategies that is meant to bring in people both investors and residents alike because they need the
money from the investors and the land from the people.
China's urbanization policy is highlighted by their plan to move 250 million rural residents into
newly constructed towns and cities over the next dozen years. (Johnson,2014) Ian Johnson said that
"The ultimate goal of the government's modernization plan is to fully integrate 70 percent of the
country's population, or roughly 900 million people, into city living by 2025." (Johnson,2014)
Johnson also said that China is so keen on urbanization because by urbanizing, they could change
China's economic structure from an export reliant country into a country based on domestic demand
for product.
However, in order to achieve such lofty goals, the government would require a lot of money and in
order to gain a lot of money, the government started a lot of projects that author Pu Miao classify as
"window dressing projects". The projects that Pu Miao

Why Zoos Should Not Be Illegal
Why do We Need Zoos Sword has two edged, everything in the world also has a double–edged.
When people get benefits from something, but also by the bad side effects. But as long to take
certain measures, people will be able to control the bad influence within an appropriate range, so as
to obtain maximum benefits. The zoo is a good example. Some people think zoos are cruel to
animals and should be illegal, actually this is a very old and wrong view. Although some of the
poor economic situation of the zoo will be the situation cannot take care of the animals, but only a
small number of the zoo, cannot represent the whole. With the progress of time, there is growing
emphasis on animal protection and rights. In the zoo, the animals will be better care and treatment.
Thus, zoo should not be judged illegal, instead, it should be vigorously promoted in the society.
Even though opponents, like PETA, claim that animals are not happy in the zoo and that their cages
and conditions are dirty and unhealthy, both physically and psychologically (Morgan.n.d.). In fact

Food Changes In Ancient China
During Ancient China, some things were the same as they are today in present China. For example,
they still grow and eat foods like rice, shellfish, fruits, and onions. In addition to this, people eat
foods divided into yin and yang categories due to Taoism beliefs. Yin included foods that grew in
the air. For example, fruits that grew on trees like peaches, wine, and citrons. Yang foods were
normally grown underground. For instance, onion and garlic were yang foods that were grown
underground. As time goes on, usually there is change happening as well. This happens anywhere
one goes. Whether there are huge adjustments or small modifications, they are all differences. In
China there were changes in food production and farming.
By contrast of the foods that remained constant, there were practices in Ancient China that have
been improved. For example, when farming, human labor was needed. Furthermore, farming areas
were strictly limited by the natural environment. Also, there were problems of diverting floods and
irrigation. During the Spring and Autumn period (722–481 BC), two improvements in farming

Tiananmen Square Massacre Essay
With thousands left wounded, a seemingly countless number of citizens reported dead, and a
country left with a reputation in jeopardy. All of these were the consequences of a shocking and
devastating event which happened on the 4th of June 1989, the Tiananmen Square massacre.
Overtime this has been viewed as a major turning point in Chinese history. It catalyzed movements
for generations across the world.
Tiananmen Square is a city square in the centre of Beijing, China. It is named after Tiananmen,
"Gate of Heavenly Peace." The square contains the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall
of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong
died on September 9, 1976. At the time of his death, China was in a political and economic
dilemma. The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966–1976) and factional fighting had left the
country much poorer, weaker, and isolated than it had been in 1965. A large amount of experienced
party officials, intellectuals, and professionals were deteriorating in prison or working in factories,
mines, and fields. Many schools had been closed, and an entire generation of young people were
unable to obtain an education. The ethics of China turned under Deng Xiaoping to a form of "market
socialism." He introduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The article argues that "Evaluating the relation between transforming communication technologies
and collective action demands recognizing how such technologies infuse specific protest ecologies
(Segerberg &Bennett, 2011)." The authors suggest that technologies, such as Twitter is deeply
embedded in protest ecologies and constitute a flexible means for individuals and organizations with
diverse ideologies to access the space. They also pointed out that we should look beyond
technologies, actors and uses. Instead, we should look into at least two aspects when analyzing
Twitter's role in the protest ecology: its role as network agent and window on the protest space. The
former one indicates that social media protest usually involves numerous online technologies that
offer two different types of actors to utilize, so Twitter acts as a crucial role of co configuring the
protest space. The latter one indicates that "something of the larger network of relations involved in
a particular event, even if it does not tell the whole story about them (cf. Huberman, Romero, & Wu,

ecology: 1) Twitter streams can be crosscutting networking mechanisms 2) How Twitter embed and

Outsourcing Research Paper
Outsourcing is a method used by company owners to move factories overseas into third world
countries to increase profit and decrease employee salaries. Those factories are often called
"sweatshops". Because outsourcing exploits third world country adults and their children, because of
the extremely low wages that factory workers from third world countries are given, and because the
working conditions for such individuals are hazardous both mentally and physically, outsourcing
should be prohibited by law.
Sweatshops are famously known for their exploitation of minors, which in most cases are also
exposed to horrid working conditions. According to the article titled "In Chinese Factories, Lost

"[However,] [] when boycotts occur, rather than fixing conditions in sweatshops, large corporations
will often shift production away entirely from countries with sweatshops, resulting in a loss of jobs
for workers." (Yesilevsky). Instead of helping workers from third world countries, boycotting
actually hurts then as many workers are laid off as a result of declining numbers of product
purchasing in other countries. Another flaw in trying to prevent the further use of sweatshops is the
idea of the freedom of choice of the sweatshop workers:
[I]t is morally wrong or impermissible for third parties to interfere with the choice of sweatshop
workers to work in sweatshops. The Choice Argument seeks, in other words, to shift the burden of
proof onto those who wish to regulate sweatshop labor. It does so by forcing critics of sweatshops to
specify the conditions under which it is morally permissible to interfere with sweatshop workers'
choice. (Zwolinski)
This argument states that third parties should not get involved with the decisions made by
individuals who work in sweatshops. This argument also states that sweatshop are making them
much more money than any other job that is available to the individuals living and working in a
third world country

Descriptive Essay
Have you ever felt oddly out of place somewhere that should be more, familiar? I've never felt more
alien then on my third trip to China visiting the Hunan province in a little town called Chengdu.
This little town was my origins. Like much of China it had become more urbanized and like much
of China it was unrecognizable to me. Seventeen years and six months ago I was adopted by Colleen
Colbert, and Joel Carreiro from an orphanage in a little town called Chengdu.
As I walked up to the building it was a large well built building with electricity, functioning toilettes
and playgrounds. I soon learned this was my orphanage 2.0, they rebuilt a larger and better
accommodated building for the growing number of kids in search for a different kind of family. The
building that I slept and played in was not in use and near rice fields where water buffalo roamed
nearby. It was a medium, shoebox shaped building, brown from time and rust. I wanted a port key to
take me someplace familiar, even the hotel room felt more homely. And yet I walked along my old
grounds with my mom and was told how I lived as a baby and who I was before I could remember.
It was strange to hear about my life in someone else's perspective and for the first time. My adopted
mom and dad couldn't tell me who I was for the first 18 months of my life as they were thousands of
miles away and hadn't known me apart from a cute 4 by 4 picture of a very smiley yet chubby
Chinese baby.

Why The Disappearance Of Bees
Biologists and conservationists pondered why the bees that arrived in central China every spring
suddenly stopped showing up because the apple farmers needed bees, which devised the inquiry of
the demand for bees. Due to the fact that bees pollinate on flowers, the production of apples is
enhanced. So, the disappearance of bees caused the apple farmers to pollinate manually without the
help of bees. Manual pollination is not as natural and sufficient as the habitual act of bees, and the
apple farmers were conscious of that. Ecosystem services correlate to this because the essential
services are the pollination from bees that makes economic activities such as the production of
apples possible for farmers. Apple production is meant for survival and the quality of life, which
translates to an ecocentric and romantic view of nature. Additionally, the interaction of supply and
demand in the marketplace relates to reduced apple production due to missing bees because it will ...

Therefore, the absence of bees in the apple region of Maoxian County, near the city of Chengdu,
forced apple farmers to pollinate manually without the help of bees. According to Robert Krulwich's

smaller creatures, the pollinators, the leaf eaters, the beach cleaners–the little critters we depend on!
The free work of bees became expensive and forced several economists to take a second look on the
situation. In fact, apple production increased by human pollination and was not hurt by the absence
of bees. The development of apple harvest caused humans to doubt the necessity of bees and other
living creatures. However, the bee story elucidates the danger of solely relying on the market and

What is inefficient transportation?
Cars are a very well known source of transportation, especially in the metropolitan cities in Canada.
Although there is one major problem about cars, gasoline. Gasoline is the substance that a car

Anxious Wealth : Money And Morality Among China 's New...
Assignment One: Urban ethnography book review. Anxious Wealth: Money and Morality Among
China's New Rich, by John Osburg Main argument: 507 Anxious Wealth is an ethnographic book
that explores the background networking strategies of Chengdu's powerful elite group of
entrepreneurs, professionals, and government officials. Themes covered include recreational habits
such as gambling, banqueting, drinking, uniting with female hostesses, and a range of other
unexpectedly significant facets of relationships that may result in exchanges of mutual advantage.
Osburg argues these networks as being central (and at times, corrosive) forces in political,
economic, and social life in China, and also informative on the origins, workings, and maintenance
of corruption, as well as class and gender inequality. These relationships organise more than just
business ventures, also orientating personal morality and performance in hierarchical social status.
Through the ethnography, Osburg shows the dominating powers of these networks, especially where
business to government official ties are concerned. These non–commodifiable ties of blood and
sentiment (through shared sexual experiences, for example) are highly valued in a society where
monetised bribes are so prevalent (83). This, Osburg argues, is commonly known, and embodied by
businessmen such as informant Mr. Chen who upon discussing his networks, stated "...in China,
there is no law. Relationships are the law." (77). Relationship

three doctrines" (sanjiao yiti) or "the three converged doctrines" (sanjiao heliu).
2.1.1.2. Lingnan Culture
Lingnan culture refers to the geographic culture originated from Lingnan areas, which covers the
nowadays Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Northern part of Vietnam. It consists of three culture
branches, Teochew Culture, Cantonese culture and Hakka culture. The study site city Guangzhou,
along the Pearl River, is the central of Cantonese culture. For one thing, considering its appropriate
geographic location (the Pear River Delta) and humidity subtropical climate, rice was cultivated as
the main staple food with long history, and the rice was so important to Guangzhou people, they
named their City 'hui' (Rice–ear) City. In the imperial era, inspired by the Han's clan system,
similarly small peasant farming and autarkic economy was led by clan–based kinships organization,
Guo called it "Clan–based collectivism" in Guangzhou. The Clan Zhanglaohui (clan elder authority)
assigned foods and services to clan members, in this way kinship distribution system was
established. Meanwhile, given to its topological situations, typical architecture buildings such as
Xiguan Dawu and Qilou were fully reflect the Lingnan

The Kangding Love Song This Land Is Your Land
There are many songs that are similar and different at the same time. In this case, I will compare and
contrast the "Kangding Love Song" to the classic American folk song, "This Land is Your Land."
The "Kangding Love Song" is about a man who loves another girl. His name is Li, and he meets the
love of his life, while attending college in Chengdu. However, his parents did not agree with their
relationship, so he separated from his parents. In the end, the author does not get to marry Miss Li
because of feudal ethics. This song was written to commemorate their relationship. The meaning of
"This Land is Your Land" is somewhat different. At first, it was written to mock Irving Berlin's song
called, "God Bless America." Now, it has a different meaning. This song shows his love for
America, and it shows how he wants to show others the true glory of America. ... Show more

They are similar because they both talk about loving someone or something. The "Kangding Love
Song" shows the true love between a man and a woman. The song "This Land is Your Land" shows
the love between a man and his country. Also, both songs are real stories about these people during
their times. Although they are similar in these ways, they are different. One obvious difference is the
language used in these two songs. The "Kangding Love Song" comes from China, while the song
"This Land is Your Land" comes from America. Also, the "Kangding Love Song" talks about the
love between a man and a woman, while the song "This Land is Your Land" talks about the love
between a man and his country. Lastly, these songs are different because the "Kangding Love Song"
takes place in one place called the Xikang Province, while the song "This Land is Your Land"
involves the whole country of America. As you can see, these two songs can be similar but different

Porcine Parvovirus Essay

  • 1. Porcine Parvovirus Essay SHORT REPORT Open Access Differential expression of microRNAs in porcine parvovirus infected porcine cell line Xinqiong Li1†, Ling Zhu1,2†, Xiao Liu1, Xiangang Sun1, Yuanchen Zhou1, Qiaoli Lang1, Ping Li1, Yuhan Cai1, Xiaogai Qiao1 and Zhiwen Xu1,2* Abstract Background: Porcine parvovirus (PPV), a member of the Parvoviridae family, causes great economic loss in the swine industry worldwide. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of non–protein– coding genes that play many diverse and complex roles in viral infections. Finding: Aiming to determine the impact of PPV infections on the cellular miRNAome, we used high–throughput sequencing to sequence two miRNA libraries prepared from porcine kidney 15 (PK–15) cells under normal conditions and during PPV infection. There was differential miRNA expression between the uninfected and infected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We detected the expression of miR–10b, miR–20a, miR–19b, miR–181a, miR–146b, miR–18a, and other previously identified immune–related miRNAs. Gene Ontology analysis and KEGG function annotations of the host target genes suggested that the miRNAs are involved in complex cellular pathways, including cellular metabolic processes, immune system processes, and gene expression. Conclusions: These data suggest that a large group of miRNAs is expressed in PK–15 cells and that some miRNAs were altered in PPV–infected PK–15 cells. A number of microRNAs play an important role in regulating immune–related gene expression. Our findings should help with the development of new control strategies to prevent or treat PPV infections in swine. Background Porcine parvovirus (PPV) is a major cause of ... Preserving Historic District Conservation Project A historic district or heritage district is a section of a city which contains older buildings considered valuable for historical or architectural reasons. This definition first appeared in Athens Charter, 1933. In China, any region that is classified as a historical district should contain a group of buildings that have cultural heritage significance with relatively integrated exterior and structures. All of these historic districts are cultural artifacts, and their stories are entwined with relevant human civilization. Thus, for cultural heritage conservation, 99 National Historic and Culturally Famous Towns have been promulgated by Chinese State Council in three groups since 1982. At the same time, different provinces and autonomous regions have also issued their own list of Historical and Culturally Famous communities. However, I considered that during the implementation of promoting historic district conservation project, many people misunderstand the initial purpose and the process of restoration. Therefore, huge numbers of cultural heritages were transformed to "fake antique", and the cultural heritage value of relevant places has been seriously diminished. Currently, historic districts are seriously affected by urban modernization and commercialization. During different parties are willing to take part in relevant conservation project, how to maintain a balance between development and cultural heritage conservation has become one of most popular issue in ... Additionally, some inorganic elements have some level of toxicity for the environment follows with the low natural abundance. Thereby, in the present scenario it is unrealistic to enable a widespread use of thermoelectric installations forwaste heat recovery. However, organic electronic materials, especially conducting polymers (i.e. basing on abundant elements, light weight, low–cost large–area flexible and non–toxic), start to draw attention asmore economical alternatives to conventional TE materials [19 – 21]. To evaluate the energy conversionefficiency of a TE material, a dimensionless Figure of merit (ZT), is introduced to quantify the performance of TE materials and is defined as with: S: Seebeck coefficient, σ: Electrical conductivity, T : Absolute temperature, S2σ: Power factor andκ : Thermal conductivity. Good TE materials require ahigh power factor, a high σ and a lowκ, so the polymers are expected to play an important role in the TE materials because of its low κ. The intent of this research was to detect whether or not overinvolved parents of schizophrenic people, blame themselves for the patients' illness, as well as controlling behavior toward others. 54 parents of schizophrenic patients were assessed with the Camberwell Family Interview. As a result, parents who were overly involved blamed themselves for the patients' illness more than parents who were less controlling. Starbucks articulated an entry strategy that was designed to be as inoffensive to the Chinese culture as possible. Instead of taking the conventional approach with advertising and promotions which could have been seen by potential Chinese consumers as attacking their culture of drinking tea they positioned stores in high–traffic and high visibility locations. Moreover, Starbucks very deliberately began to bridge the gap between the tea drinking culture and the coffee drinking culture by introducing beverages in the Chinese stores that included local tea–based ingredients. Competitive internationalization strategy. The overarching competitive strategy was to create an aspirational brand. Prospective Starbucks customers in China could look forward to what Starbucks refers to as "The Third Place" experience. The Starbucks experience conveys status that is highly appealing to those aspiring to Western standards or to climbing the ladder in their own culture. Maintaining brand consistency. When Starbucks opens a new store in an emerging market like China, the best baristas are sent for the launch and to conduct training of the baristas who will carry on when once the launch has completed. Just three weeks ago, I said a final goodbye to my "hamster wheel", the 9–5 regime, after 20 long (and incredibly rewarding) years working for a world–class company and I started my new chapter in life. • 29. Analysis Of The Book ' Wild Swans ' By Jung Chang Essay Family loyalty in China has had a tumultuous past filled with fluctuation between remaining loyal to the state, yet also remaining loyal to blood relatives. In the autobiography that also serves as a biography, Wild Swans, by Jung Chang, this is seen. The book, which outlines the biographies of the author's grandmother and mother, as well as her own autobiography, gives an interesting look into the lives of the Chinese throughout the 20th century. This book is beyond eye opening, and is truly a raw glimpse into the daily lives of women throughout China, struggling with situations that no human should ever be thrown into. I loved this book and was truly scared about the world that it opened me up to. The book does many things well, but also has its faults. The author consistently and clearly exemplifies the social hierarchy that consumes China, as well as its obsession with cultural stagnancy. The author also gives intense imagery that thrusts the reader into the scene, and creates a new reality showcasing the truths of China. Although both of those things take main stage in the book, there are a few weaknesses in the book. One, asking the question of how she had such clear anecdotes on her grandmother and mother's life, how did she have such intimate details? The second shortcoming that Jung Chang had a subjective view of China, partly being that she loves China despite the cards it has dealt her. Her life was not short of hardships, but her family was typically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Teahouse: Small Business, Everyday Culture, and Public Politics in Chengdu, by Di Wang is a novel that explores how the distinctive nature of teahouses influenced the economic, political, and social spheres of Chengdu during the first half of the twentieth century. Wang begins with the assertion that there were few other institutions in Chengdu during the time period of the 1900s to 1950s that were more important in everyday life than teahouses, and that no other city in China had as many of them as Chengdu. This ubiquity and significance of teahouses in Chengdu is translated into the notion that the culture of teahouses can begin to serve as a "microcosm," of the larger, urban Chinese society. Wang indicates that the dynamics of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wang organizes these three lenses in a topical rather than chronological fashion––a detail that allows for his central argument to remain clear amidst the abundance of historical facts and sources. By organizing the book topically, Wang grants his audience with the opportunity to better comprehend and enjoy primary sources such as anecdotes, figures, and accounts related to teahouses––ultimately exposing a logical thought process that the audience can follow. Additionally, such accounts come together and result in a greatly enhanced understanding of the happenings in a Chengdu teahouse. Yet, despite organizing these complementary subjects topically, Wang does make an effort to account for the chronology of political developments. It is interesting to notice how he accounts for change over time in teahouses from the developments in the social reform of the late Qing Era, the Railroad Protection Movement, the 1911 Revolution, the early Republican period, the GMD and Chinese Communist Party, the War of Resistance, and the Civil War. As historian, Wang structures his novel in a topical and analytical fashion in which each chapter contributes meaningfully to his argument. In the first part of the novel, Wang attempts to explain how teahouses can be viewed as the typical, small Chinese business. However, while adeptly showcasing the details of the ... This movie is based on the story "Tian Yu" by Yan Geling about a similar topic. In this film, the point of view of a previously innocent teenage girl during the Sent–Down Movement in China is explored. However, over the course of the film, that girl's, Xiu Xiu's, innocence is taken away. Xiu Xiu's loss of innocence was a result of multiple factors: her assailants who used her for their own personal pleasure, the passivity of other characters, Xiu Xiu's own loss of hope, gender roles ingrained in the cultural norms in China, and the Chinese government's manipulation of youths during the Sent–Down Movement. To what extent these factors are influenced the outcome of Xiu Xiu's fate is the real question. China 's New Policy Plan The Communist party in China has, for decades insisted that peasants, even those working in cities, remain tied to their tiny plots of land to ensure political and economic stability. (Johnson,2014) However, China's new policy is now to urbanize most of China as a way of mass modernization and they are doing so, through the creation of new cities and massive relocation. Due to the large amount of funds needed to create new cities, China's government has created a series of development strategies that is meant to bring in people both investors and residents alike because they need the money from the investors and the land from the people. China's urbanization policy is highlighted by their plan to move 250 million rural residents into newly constructed towns and cities over the next dozen years. (Johnson,2014) Ian Johnson said that "The ultimate goal of the government's modernization plan is to fully integrate 70 percent of the country's population, or roughly 900 million people, into city living by 2025." (Johnson,2014) Johnson also said that China is so keen on urbanization because by urbanizing, they could change China's economic structure from an export reliant country into a country based on domestic demand for product. All of these were the consequences of a shocking and devastating event which happened on the 4th of June 1989, the Tiananmen Square massacre. Overtime this has been viewed as a major turning point in Chinese history. It catalyzed movements for generations across the world. Tiananmen Square is a city square in the centre of Beijing, China. Because outsourcing exploits third world country adults and their children, because of the extremely low wages that factory workers from third world countries are given, and because the working conditions for such individuals are hazardous both mentally and physically, outsourcing should be prohibited by law. Sweatshops are famously known for their exploitation of minors, which in most cases are also exposed to horrid working conditions. According to the article titled "In Chinese Factories, Lost Fingers and Low Pay", "[While] American and European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "[However,] [] when boycotts occur, rather than fixing conditions in sweatshops, large corporations will often shift production away entirely from countries with sweatshops, resulting in a loss of jobs for workers." (Yesilevsky). Instead of helping workers from third world countries, boycotting actually hurts then as many workers are laid off as a result of declining numbers of product purchasing in other countries. Another flaw in trying to prevent the further use of sweatshops is the idea of the freedom of choice of the sweatshop workers: [I]t is morally wrong or impermissible for third parties to interfere with the choice of sweatshop workers to work in sweatshops. The Choice Argument seeks, in other words, to shift the burden of proof onto those who wish to regulate sweatshop labor. It does so by forcing critics of sweatshops to specify the conditions under which it is morally permissible to interfere with sweatshop workers' choice. (Zwolinski) This argument states that third parties should not get involved with the decisions made by individuals who work in sweatshops. This argument also states that sweatshop are making them much more money than any other job that is available to the individuals living and working in a third world country ... • 66. Descriptive Essay Have you ever felt oddly out of place somewhere that should be more, familiar? I've never felt more alien then on my third trip to China visiting the Hunan province in a little town called Chengdu. This little town was my origins. Like much of China it had become more urbanized and like much of China it was unrecognizable to me. Seventeen years and six months ago I was adopted by Colleen Colbert, and Joel Carreiro from an orphanage in a little town called Chengdu. As I walked up to the building it was a large well built building with electricity, functioning toilettes and playgrounds. I soon learned this was my orphanage 2.0, they rebuilt a larger and better accommodated building for the growing number of kids in search for a different kind of family. The building that I slept and played in was not in use and near rice fields where water buffalo roamed nearby. It was a medium, shoebox shaped building, brown from time and rust. I wanted a port key to take me someplace familiar, even the hotel room felt more homely. And yet I walked along my old grounds with my mom and was told how I lived as a baby and who I was before I could remember. It was strange to hear about my life in someone else's perspective and for the first time. My adopted mom and dad couldn't tell me who I was for the first 18 months of my life as they were thousands of miles away and hadn't known me apart from a cute 4 by 4 picture of a very smiley yet chubby Chinese baby. As I endured the sweltering heat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why The Disappearance Of Bees Biologists and conservationists pondered why the bees that arrived in central China every spring suddenly stopped showing up because the apple farmers needed bees, which devised the inquiry of the demand for bees. Due to the fact that bees pollinate on flowers, the production of apples is enhanced. So, the disappearance of bees caused the apple farmers to pollinate manually without the help of bees. Manual pollination is not as natural and sufficient as the habitual act of bees, and the apple farmers were conscious of that. Ecosystem services correlate to this because the essential services are the pollination from bees that makes economic activities such as the production of apples possible for farmers. Apple production is meant for survival and the quality of life, which translates to an ecocentric and romantic view of nature. Therefore, the absence of bees in the apple region of Maoxian County, near the city of Chengdu, forced apple farmers to pollinate manually without the help of bees. According to Robert Krulwich's article "How Important Is A Bee," biologists said, this is what happens when we don't care of the smaller creatures, the pollinators, the leaf eaters, the beach cleaners–the little critters we depend on! The free work of bees became expensive and forced several economists to take a second look on the situation. In fact, apple production increased by human pollination and was not hurt by the absence of bees. The development of apple harvest caused humans to doubt the necessity of bees and other living creatures. However, the bee story elucidates the danger of solely relying on the market and the security of trusting the fate of nature with species like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anxious Wealth: Money and Morality Among China's New Rich, by John Osburg Main argument: 507 Anxious Wealth is an ethnographic book that explores the background networking strategies of Chengdu's powerful elite group of entrepreneurs, professionals, and government officials. Themes covered include recreational habits such as gambling, banqueting, drinking, uniting with female hostesses, and a range of other unexpectedly significant facets of relationships that may result in exchanges of mutual advantage. Osburg argues these networks as being central (and at times, corrosive) forces in political, economic, and social life in China, and also informative on the origins, workings, and maintenance of corruption, as well as class and gender inequality. These relationships organise more than just business ventures, also orientating personal morality and performance in hierarchical social status. Through the ethnography, Osburg shows the dominating powers of these networks, especially where business to government official ties are concerned. These non–commodifiable ties of blood and sentiment (through shared sexual experiences, for example) are highly valued in a society where monetised bribes are so prevalent (83). This, Osburg argues, is commonly known, and embodied by businessmen such as informant Mr. Chen who upon discussing his networks, stated "...in China, there is no law. Relationships are the law." In this case, I will compare and contrast the "Kangding Love Song" to the classic American folk song, "This Land is Your Land." The "Kangding Love Song" is about a man who loves another girl. His name is Li, and he meets the love of his life, while attending college in Chengdu. However, his parents did not agree with their relationship, so he separated from his parents. In the end, the author does not get to marry Miss Li because of feudal ethics. This song was written to commemorate their relationship. The meaning of "This Land is Your Land" is somewhat different.
