Human activities have caused approximately 1 degree Celsius of global warming since pre-industrial times. The report analyzes pathways to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2100 in order to reduce risks and impacts of climate change. It finds that global CO2 emissions must decline substantially before 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. This will require rapid transitions across all sectors including energy, transportation, buildings, agriculture and land use. Limiting warming to 1.5 degrees can significantly reduce climate risks and impacts compared to 2 degrees, but requires unprecedented global cooperation and action.
