The document discusses 10 technology trends that have emerged or accelerated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including online shopping/robot deliveries, digital/contactless payments, remote work, distance learning, telehealth, online entertainment, supply chain 4.0, 3D printing, robotics/drones, and 5G/ICT. It notes that the pandemic has demonstrated the importance of digital readiness for businesses and societies to function during crises. However, ensuring inclusive access to technology will continue to be a challenge as digitization progresses.
As we all know, 2020 has been a particularly unique year due to COVID. Some people are quarantined at home with loved ones. Others are alone. Some are even starting to go back to work depending on where they are in the world.
Technology has become more important than ever this year because it’s keeping people connected. Particularly during the holiday season, it’s important to find ways to see loved ones even if you can in person.
The Six Biggest Blockchain Trends Everyone Should Know About In 2021Bernard Marr
Blockchain has been one of the most talked-about tech trends of the last few years. As with many other trends that were important before the pandemic hit, it didn't make as many headlines in 2021 as it has done previously. But development has been ongoing and the year saw continued adoption of the technology throughout many industries and sectors.

Data Provenance is the third of Future Agenda’s ‘World in 2030’ foresights. In our data abundant, interconnected world mutual dependencies are often at the heart of key infrastructure. In this ever-expanding environment, it is vital to ensure that data systems are trusted. This is where data provenance comes in. Knowing the origin of data can help to assess its quality, accuracy and reliability. It also allows us to assess value and ownership and could contribute to the redistribution of profit when data is resold or reused. But does ubiquitous provenance mean that we will never be able to do anything, even remotely privately, ever again? And will the benefits of greater cyber security be an adequate compensation for this?
Drawn from multiple expert discussions around the world, this foresight is one of 50 looking at the key issues for the next decade that are being shared throughout 2020.

The first of Future Agenda’s ‘World in 2030’ foresights addresses the emerging shift in how multinational digital companies may be taxed in the future so that they make a more balanced contribution to society. In a world increasingly aware of the asymmetric power and influence of organisations that don’t comply to norms and regulations created in the 19th and 20th centuries, it explores three different avenues that could have global impact: the adoption of digital revenue taxes such as those being introduced in Europe; a more sophisticated ‘wealth’ tax on the value of the data an organisation owns, manages, stores or uses; and the idea of a data dividend where all citizens receive a payment for the use of their data as part of a company’s social licence to operate.
Each are being proposed and gaining support with multiple governments globally - and so should be on the radar of any data-rich organisation.
Drawn from multiple expert discussions around the world, this foresight is one of 50 looking at the key issues for the next decade that are being shared throughout 2020.

The digitization of almost every aspect of our lives implies that we now depend on the infrastructure that enables this connectivity. Digital infrastructure refers to the “bridges and roads” that support the global economy, in particular the digital economy. This includes data centers, fiber optic cable, and mobile phone. It is now indispensable necessity since it constitutes the foundation of the digital economy and enables the connectivity that we all enjoy. This is why national governments prioritize digital connectivity for their citizens. This paper introduces the reader to digital infrastructure. Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Uwakwe C. OECD Digital Economy Outlook 2017: Presentation at Global Parliamentary Netwo...innovationoecd
The Digital Economy Outlook 2017 shows how Internet infrastructure and usage varies across countries and firms in the OECD area. It looks at policy implications of the digital transformation as well as a wide array of trends. Report available at http://oe.cd/deo2017
Digital transformation is under way, creating new opportunities and affecting organisations, jobs and lives in ways never seen before. Digital opportunities abound, but governments must ensure they are equally harnessed by all countries, firms and individuals. To navigate the digital transformation, governments need to review legacy frameworks, embracing digital innovation and mitigating potential social cost. They also must step up efforts to empower people with the skills needed to succeed in a digital world. A new sense of urgency to marshal digital development for productivity and more inclusive and sustainable prosperity has pushed digital issues high on national and global policy agendas. In this context, the OECD has started to undertake a large cross-cutting project focused on making the transformation work for growth and well-being.
This session explores key insights from the new OECD Digital Economy Outlook 2017, which provides a holistic overview of converging trends, policy developments and data on both the supply and demand sides of the digital economy, and illustrates how the digital transformation is affecting economies and societies.

Technology Disruption in the New Normal, Digital Inclusion and the LawBenjamin Ang
Technology disruption has swept through legal practice and the justice system, as it has in every other aspect of life in our new normal of remote work and online access. While digital transformation has been hugely beneficial to our society, there are new legal and cybersecurity questions that we need to grapple with as we continue to serve the public. Among the public, varying levels of digital capability and access raise new issues of digital inclusion for us to address in policy and operations. This talk seeks to raise awareness of these issues and to develop ideas for practical application.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

3. ▪ Online shopping needs to be supported by a robust
logistics system. In-person delivery is not virus-
proof. Many delivery companies and restaurants in
the US and China are launching contactless delivery
services where goods are picked up and dropped off
at a designated location instead of from or into the
hands of a person. Chinese e-commerce giants are
also ramping up their development of robot
deliveries. However, before robot delivery services
become prevalent, delivery companies need to
establish clear protocols to safeguard the sanitary
condition of delivered goods.
6. ▪ Cash might carry the virus, so central banks in
China, US and South Korea have implemented
various measures to ensure banknotes are
clean before they go into circulation. Now,
contactless digital payments, either in the form
of cards or e-wallets, are the recommended
payment method to avoid the spread of COVID-
19. Digital payments enable people to make
online purchases and payments of goods,
services and even utility payments, as well as to
receive stimulus funds faster.
8. ▪ Many companies have asked employees
to work from home. Remote work is enabled
by technologies including virtual private
networks (VPNs), voice over internet protocols
(VoIPs), virtual meetings, cloud technology,
work collaboration tools and even facial
recognition technologies that enable a person
to appear before a virtual background to
preserve the privacy of the home. In addition to
preventing the spread of viruses, remote work
also saves commute time and provides more
flexibility.
11. ▪ As of mid-April, 191 countries announced
or implemented school or university
closures, impacting 1.57 billion students.
Many educational institutions started
offering courses online to ensure education
was not disrupted by quarantine measures.
Technologies involved in distant learning
are similar to those for remote work and
also include virtual reality, augmented
reality, 3D printing and artificial-
intelligence-enabled robot teachers.
13. ▪ In countries where medical costs are high, it's
important to ensure telehealth will be covered
by insurance. Telehealth also requires a certain
level of tech literacy to operate, as well as a
good internet connection. And as medical
services are one of the most heavily regulated
businesses, doctors typically can only provide
medical care to patients who live in the same
jurisdiction. Regulations, at the time they were
written, may not have envisioned a world where
telehealth would be available.
16. ▪ Although quarantine measures have
reduced in-person interactions
significantly, human creativity has brought
the party online. Cloud raves and online
streaming of concerts have gain traction
around the world. Chinese film production
companies also released
films online. Museums and international
heritage sites offer virtual tours. There has
also been a surge of online gaming
traffic since the outbreak.
18. ▪ The COVID-19 pandemic has created
disruptions to the global supply chain. With
distancing and quarantine orders, some
factories are completely shut down. While
demand for food and personal protective
equipment soar, some countries have
implemented different levels of export bans on
those items. Heavy reliance on paper-based
records, a lack of visibility on data and lack of
diversity and flexibility have made existing
supply chain system vulnerable to any
pandemic.
19. ▪ Core technologies of the Fourth Industrial
Revolution, such as Big Data, cloud
computing, Internet-of-Things (“IoT”) and
blockchain are building a more resilient
supply chain management system for the
future by enhancing the accuracy of data
and encouraging data sharing.
21. ▪ 3D printing technology has been deployed
to mitigate shocks to the supply chain and
export bans on personal protective
equipment. 3D printing offers flexibility in
production: the same printer can produce
different products based on different
design files and materials, and simple parts
can be made onsite quickly without
requiring a lengthy procurement process
and a long wait for the shipment to arrive.

25. ▪ COVID-19 provided a strong push to rollout
the usage of robots and research on
robotics. In recent weeks, robots have been
used to disinfect areas and to
deliver food to those in quarantine. Drones
have walked dogs and delivered items.
28. ▪ All the aforementioned technology trends rely
on a stable, high-speed and affordable internet.
While 5G has demonstrated its importance in
remote monitoring and healthcare consultation,
the rollout of 5G is delayed in Europe at the
time when the technology may be needed the
most. The adoption of 5G will increase the cost
of compatible devices and the cost of data
plans. Addressing these issues to ensure
inclusive access to internet will continue to be a
challenge as the 5G network expands globally.
29. Theimportanceofdigitalreadiness
COVID-19 has demonstrated the importance of
digital readiness, which allows business and life
to continue as usual – as much as possible –
during pandemics. Building the necessary
infrastructure to support a digitized world and
stay current in the latest technology will be
essential for any business or country to remain
competitive in a post-COVID-19 world, as well as
take a human-centred and inclusive approach
to technology governance.

30. Theimportanceofdigitalreadiness
As the BBC points out, an estimated 200
million people will lose their jobs due to
COVID-19. And the financial burden often falls
on the most vulnerable in society. Digitization
and pandemics have accelerated changes to
jobs available to humans. How to mitigate the
impact on the larger workforce and the most
vulnerable is the issue across all industries and
countries that deserves not only attention but
also a timely and human-centred solution.
