• TheFMPproject wassomething I’ve been looking forward to for awhile soI beganthink about
my concept and ideasfor the project over Easter.I knew for weeks before that I wanted to
produce ashort film for my FMPbut for awhile I wasn’t sure what type of film I wanted It to be
or what I wanted it to be about. I beganto think about the 1 minuet long short film I produced
for my video rotation that I did before Christmas. I really enjoyed producing afilm in the horror
genre last time and I realised that if I wasto produce another horror film I could build upon the
ideas and editing techniques I used last time which could help me to produce something that is
much better and higher quality then my previous film production. For example last time I
thought I was good at building tension in my last film due to the suspenseful nature of the music
and the ticking countdown clock, I cannow build on this and I canlook at aspecific sceneor
situation the character is in and think “how can I create tension and suspensein the audience”? I
also think my last film wasvery good visually with the different effects and shots I used
throughout the film. One thing I was disappointed about with it though was that the colour
grading looked off in someplaces and the camera quality wasn’t asgood asI wanted it to be I
think this may have been either the settings of the camera or something to do with the effects in
post production. Therefore this time I want to focus alot on cinematic quality by making sure
the video quality is the best it can be, I will look at the resolution settings on the college cameras
and if they are not good enough I may seeif I canfilm It on my mates iPhone asthat canrecord
in 4K.I also want to make sure I havecinematic colour grading and aspect ratio in order to make
it look like areally high quality film you could see in the cinema.

plot
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
I have collected several images of wardrobes asthere is awardrobe that plays a
key part in the plot of my film asthat is were the creature is released from once it
is unlocked. There is also several images in there that in my opinion are supposed
to represent insanity asin my film I am going to leave it to the audience to
question if creature that is attacking the main character is ahallucination or real
asonly the main character can seeit.
How will your mood board influence your finalproduct?
My mood board will influence my final product asin the plot mood board there is
adefinite theme of insanity and childhood fears in the images Ihavecollected.
Theseare all themes that I havetaken inspiration from when coming up withmy
project. For example the creature that attack the main character is supposed to
be amanifestation of his childhood fears. I also want to imply that the main
character is slightly insane and that everything that is happening could be inside
his head ashe is the only one that can seeeverything that is goingon.
Mood BoardAnalysis:Style
Is thereany repetition in the images you havecollected?Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
I think there may be some repetition in the images I have collected. The reason for this
is because that particular mood board focuses on the style of my film so I focused on
collecting images of iconic shots from some horror films that I may want to take
inspiration from. I also used images that show the type of colour grading and effects I
wanted to do on my film.
How will your mood board influenceyour finalproduct?
I believe it will influence my final product as I will be able to look back at the mood
board and take inspiration from the different styles shown such as shot types, colour
grading and horror film tropes or conventions that I may or may not want to include in
my film. This will be a handy tool to look back at and may lead to new inspiration when
it comes to actually filming my project for new styles and ideas that I could have during
the production process. I would argue that this mood board is the most important one as
it represents the styling of my film which is its core element.
Mood BoardAnalysis: Props
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
I tried to make sure that there wasn’t much repetition for the props as that wouldn’t make sense
for this mood board. At the point of making this mood board I realised I already had a brief idea of
what my horror film was going to be about and so I struggled to think of anymore props that I would
need. I then realised my film idea was still just a concept and that I could allow my mood board to
be more varied in terms of the props that were shown on there.
How will your mood board influence your finalproduct?
It will influence my final product in that once I come up with the final concept for my film and I begin
to develop it I can look back at the props mood board and pick out which ones I want to incorporate
into my film and how I will go about doing that. Similarly to how the music and visuals can tell a lot of
the story without dialogue I believe props can as well. If I showed someone a picture of a knife a
picture of a person and then a picture of a police car then asked them to guess the plot of the film,
they would instantly assume it was a murder film. This is due to the association of certain images with
certain film genres as those types of objects are traditionally representative of that specific genre.
Mood BoardAnalysis:Locations
Is thereany repetition in theimages you havecollected?Repeated
colours/imagesstyles/fonts/tone/mood
In this mood board there is a definite repetition of the images. The simple reason for this is that I wanted to
collect images that showed similar locations but with different tones so I could get an idea of the different factors
that lead images being interpreted in different ways. For example a desaturated shot of house could make the
house look creepy and foreboding and that gives the viewer of the image to have negative associations with that
house. However if the same image was full of light colour and saturation it gives the impression that this is a
warm, safe and inviting place.
