Aging Latinos in Action - ALA
CCCIL is committed to developing the staff and community leadership necessary to ensure that our local aging Latino population can lead the most independent and healthy lives possible. CCCIL’s ALA initiative rests on the premise that a community rooted in a culture of independent living and health requires outreach, education, engagement, action and reflection.
ALA directly addresses CCCIL’s priority areas including 1) Developing an engaged constituency of community leaders with disabilities to act on local issues that will build and maintain a healthy, vibrant and independent community; and 2) Addressing the needs of the rapidly increasing aging population as it naturally increases in needs for disability services These two priorities are intimately interwoven as the cultural needs of specific populations including Latinos and aging adults pose unique opportunities and challenges as our nation re-invents how we look at access to care and health. Further, as disabilities are a natural part of the aging process, CCCIL is uniquely qualified to develop leadership in this area.
With investment from the UU Fund for a Just Society, CCCIL will have the opportunity to focus on the outreach, education and action that will both serve and organize a larger constituency of Monterey County’s aging Latino adults.
With the UU investment, the ALA initiative will continue its 8 month pilot project into a second year and focus on:
Outreach
July - December
Working with our community partners (including Area Agencies on Aging, service providers & churches) to invite aging Latinos to participate in ALA Health Academies
Education September - March

· On the core skills of community organizing including house meetings, power analysis, research actions, action and reflection with the support of our local IAF affiliate organization COPA – Communities Organized for Relational Public Action
· On the services provided by CCCIL – each participant will be given the information necessary to schedule an appointment with a CCCIL Advocate to develop an Independent Living plan to help them access benefits.
· In addition to the education pieces in the Health Care Academies, CCCIL may organize 1-2 workshops on specific topics identified as needs by the community that could include accessing home health care.
Engagement January - June

THIS WEEK’S WORK IS TWO DISCUSSIONS. Week 6: Social Change and Professional Development
The characteristics of program design and evaluationare intended to provide some level of recommended change or action as a result of the systematic investigation into a program’s effectiveness. Evaluation can provide answers to questions about a program that may be useful in adjusting a program to become more effective. Because evaluation results in insight about the effectiveness of a program for a specific population, evaluation can be used to implement social change or action. Evaluation findings may assist stakeholders (those who hold an interest) or decision makers in go/no-go decisions about specific program modifications or initiate the continuation or demise of the entire program. Today, social policy and public administrative movement are closely associated with social program outcomes and effective evaluations.
This week, you present your design for a program addressing the needs of the homeless population in your community and analyze how your program may effect social change. You also evaluate your potential to impact areas of human services delivery and assess the benefits of participating in professional human services organizations.
Objectives
By the end of this week, you should be able to:
· Analyze how human services program design and evaluation influence social change
· Evaluate personal impact on areas of human services delivery
· Analyze how professional organizations contribute to professional development

Critique 1
You have great reflection. I could not concur more with you on the importance of involving students directly and indirectly in the learning procedure and how it will facilitate teachers to assess the learner performance in their developmental phases. You noted that the teacher should focus on developing the learners’ capacity to perceive and appreciate things from different learning perspectives. I do agree with you, but how can we do that? I would like to know your opinion on this point.
Regarding to the memorization strategy of learning, memorization is one of the most difficult way for me to deal with. I could not memorize a lot and I can spend a night to memorize one passage. Till today, I could not find a way that makes me able to memorize more. It is really important that teachers and instructors understand that memorization for some students, like me, is very hard and sometimes impossible to memorize.
Critique 2
Meaningful learning occurs when learners are ready, and the materials are appropriate to the learners. If we don' t have any information about the learners, the materials we prepare for the learners might be useless. So I think knowing the readiness of the leaners is very important, and all the learners have different needs, that's why teaching learning strategies is very important. Even the leaners have exposed different learning and cognitive environment, they can choose a strategy we teach , which helps them experience meaningful learning.
Critique 3
I really liked your reflection and the way you clearly stated your opinion. I noticed that you didn’t talk about both Bruner’s and Vygotsky’s theories mentioned by Driscoll (2005), in this week’s chapter. I would love to read more about your opinion regarding these two important theories by these two great figures and maybe compare them with the model of Collins and Stevens.
Critique 4
“The teacher involve students directly in the learning process because this will help them appreciate their weaknesses” I was wandering if the students involve in the learning process how they will appreciate their weakness? I think no one appreciate his\her weakness all of us could appreciate our hard work but not our weakness. What do you think? You said, “Learning should not be viewed as a class an in-class process alone rather a lifelong process that takes places everywhere” I believe that what we have learned in any educational place should we benefit from it to solve the problems outside of educational place. However, you mentioned, ”The process of meaningful learning is an outcome of interaction of the teaching process, and the way the learner is receiving and processing the information” but do you think also that culture and social play important role to produce meaningful learning process?

It is essential for social workers to be able to evaluate an existing program within a community in order to develop a proposal for an effective project/program that fills the needs of a community. Remember, you are looking for a gap in services provided and a project/program solution as to how your proposal will fill that gap.
This assignment will help you learn this skill.
Read chapter eleven in the textbook and use Step 2 of the SAMHSA Strategic Prevention Framework to guide you in evaluating the agency or program you select.
Select a local agency/program that addresses your selected social issue. View the agency/program’s website and call or visit the agency/program and use the checklist below to interview the manager:
Name of agency/program you contacted: Catholic charities/ Immigrants in Houston, the Nation's Most Diverse Metropolitan Area

It provides protection against deportation and employment authorization to eligible people that were brought into the country as minors before June 15, 2007.
What are the stated goals and objectives of the program? How does the agency/program measure the current program outcomes according to the program’s existing evaluation practices?
What are the data collection procedures? (Surveys, questionnaires, etc.) Explain if these procedures have been effective or not.
American Community Survey (ACS), the authors tabulate numbers of immigrants potentially in need of community-based immigration assistance. The report finds that an estimated 350,000 legal permanent residents, most of them from Mexico and Central America, are eligible for naturalization but have not yet applied. In addition, nearly half of the metro area's 400,000 unauthorized immigrants are potentially eligible for either DACA or the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program.
What are the data analysis strategies that they use? Explain if these strategies have been effective or not.
Who are the community stakeholders involved in the program? Attorneys, Case managers, Counselors, and the community as a whole.

Abstract
This will be the summary for the paper.
Agency/Program
Provide a narrative description of the program and the agency (e.g., theoretical model/framework, agency mission, program goals, target population, community context, need being addressed by the program, length and duration, mode of delivery etc.).
Review of the Literature
Present a comprehensive review of the “best practice” literature associated with the target population’s identified need (e.g., best practices for preventing teen pregnancy among adolescent girls; best practices for intervening with substance using older adult veterans; best practices for improving parenting skills and family functioning). In this section, students must attend to the best practices associated with a given problem area (e.g. teen pregnancy, substance use, poor parenting skills), as well as relevant developmental (adolescence, adulthood, older adulthood) and cultural (e.g., race/ethnicity, immigration status, military/war culture) factors.
Program Assessment
Here you provide the finding of your assessment of program performance in the domains of service utilization and program organization. Be sure that you answer each of the following questions. NOTE: You can present these findings in question/answer format. Yes or No responses are not acceptable – you must be analytical in your assessment and provide deep well thought out responses.
How many persons are receiving services?
Are those receiving services the intended targets?
Are they receiving the proper amount, type, and quality of service? Students will evaluate the extent to which their agency’s program is consistent with best practices. This section requires specific examples of how the agency’s program is/is not supported by the best practice literature.
Are there targets who are not receiving services or subgroups within the target population who are underrepresented among those receiving services?
Are members of the target population aware of the program?
Are necessary program functions being performed adequately?
Is staffing sufficient in numbers and competencies for the functions that must be performed?
Is the program well organized? Does staff work well with each other?
Does the program coordinate effectively with the other programs and agencies with which it must interact?
Are resources, facilities, and funding adequate to support important program functions?
Are resources used effectively and efficiently?
Is the program in compliance with requirements imposed by its governing board, funding agencies, and higher-level administration?
Is the program in compliance with applicable professional and legal standards?
Is performance at some program sites or locales significantly better or poorer than at others?

PSY 638 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of a grant proposal.
The assessment for this course will be the construction of a grant proposal that targets a current area of developmental, behavioral, or diagnostic need for
children or adolescents in your community. The final project represents an authentic demonstration of competency, because it requires you to apply concepts
from across the child and adolescent curriculum to compose an original grant proposal for a theoretically supported, age-specific, and effective intervention
program. Terms commonly used in grant proposals include problem identification, prevalence, assessment of resources, impact of the problem, and
implementation plan. The meaning of these grant terms is revealed in the critical elements listed in the prompt, in which you will be asked to devise a grant
proposal that one would submit in the field of psychology. Grant proposals could be submitted for funding for research, training, institutional upgrades,
nonprofit center grants, funding opportunities, grants for children’s programs, or grants for specific outreach programs such as engaging underrepresented
cultures. The purpose of this task is to assess your understanding of concepts from across the child and adolescent curriculum.
Some real-world examples of grant proposal ideas have included:
School/Educational Setting
Orchard Middle School has over 50 at-risk students with a reading performance that directly affects their overall self-esteem and negative behavior
issues. The school submitted a grant proposal to support development of a program to help all students with poor reading skills learn to read at grade
level and increase their reading speed, comprehension, and reading attention span and overall sense of worth, esteem, and achievement. Studies have
shown those who do better in school, fare better with stable mental health.
Outpatient Mental Health
The Open Arms Family Center requested a grant in the amount of $250,000 to contribute to the start-up funds for a family homeless shelter and mental
health services. As an innovative, all-inclusive shelter program, the center aimed to provide for 10 families with children under the age of five who are
experiencing homelessness. The center is committed to its mission of decreasing the overall number of homeless families in the Metro Boston area as
well as working to break the cycle of homelessness.
Community Outreach
The purpose of Healthy Tomorrows is to stimulate innovative community-based programs that employ prevention strategies to promote access to
health care for children and their families nationwide. HTPCP funding supports direct-service projects, not research projects. Healthy Tomorrows is
designed to support family-centered initiatives that implement innovative approaches for focusing resources to promote community; define preventive

Programmatic purposes and outcomes
Select and discuss three programmatic purposes and outcomes that should be evaluated. In your discussion, provide the rationale for the purposes and outcomes selected. It will be assumed the purposes and outcomes selected were influenced by the program being evaluated.
The program that I will be discussing is human service programs. In the abiding endeavor to enhance human service programs, service providers, policy makers and funders are more and more recognizing the significance of thorough program evaluations. Building healthier cities and communities involves local people working together to transform the conditions and outcomes that matter to them. That civic work demands an array of core competencies, such as community assessment, planning, community mobilization, intervention, advocacy, evaluation, and marketing successful efforts. Supporting this local and global work requires widespread and easy access to these community-building skills. However, these skills are not always learned, nor are they commonly taught either in formal or informal education. The internet can provide an effective means for transmitting skill-building resources broadly and inexpensively. This section describes a free resource for building healthier communities called the
Community Tool Box
.
WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY TOOL BOX?
BACKGROUND.
In the early days of the World Wide Web (1995), we began work on an Internet-based resource for community change and improvement, the "Community Tool Box" (CTB). Our mission is to promote community health and development by connecting people, ideas, and resources.
We focused on developing practical information for community building that both professionals and ordinary citizens could use in everyday practice -- for example, leadership skills, program evaluation, and writing a grant application. The emphasis was on these core competencies of community building, transcending more categorical issues and concerns, such as promoting child health, reducing violence, or creating job opportunities.
We developed a broad and evolving Table of Contents and started writing, one section at a time. By mid-1999, there were over 160 how-to sections and over 3,500 pages of text available on the Community Tool Box. As of July 2000, there were over 200 sections online and more than 5,000 pages of text.
AUDIENCE.
The audiences or end users for this site include:
People doing the work of community change and improvement (community leaders and members)
People supporting it (intermediary organizations such as public agencies or university-based centers)
People funding it (governmental institutions, foundations, and others).
Use of the Community Tool Box grew nearly exponentially: over 100,000 hits in 1997, over 500,000 in 1998, and well over one million in 1999. Guestbook data confirm that users represent a wide variety of community-building settings and positions and come from all corners of the planet.
ATTRIBUTES.
Building healthier communities is hard work, requiring frequent adjustments to emerging opportunities and barriers. To be a resource for community work, a "tool box" would exemplify the following attributes:
Its content needs to be
comprehensive
. Since effective community members and practitioners need a variety of skills, sections of the Tool Box would have to reflect a broad array of core competencies (e.g., skills in conducting listening sessions, organizing focus groups, leading meetings, group facilitation and recording).

Introduction
The Service Coordinator program is a housing program that was created to deal with housing for the aged and those with disabilities in the United States of America. It has established many policies to ensure that elderly and physically challenged individuals who face low levels of income or no income are well cared for in the locations where they reside (US Department of Housing and Urban Development, n.d.).
The Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS) grant was used initially for programs such as the ROSS-Family & Homeownership and ROSS-Elderly/Persons with Disabilities (US Department of Housing and Urban Development, n.d.). The program involves funding the housing program and also with hiring and maintaining service coordinators. The Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) were responsible for providing funds to run the program; the grant funds could then be used to pay the service coordinators salaries and other administrative expenses (US Department of Housing and Urban Development, n.d.).
Key Program Elements
The service coordinator program aims at improving the lifestyles of elder adults and those with disabilities. It provides supportive services to residents to keep them living independently as long as possible.
HUD focuses on improving public housing options for its residents to have comfortable places in which they can live safely and independently. Partnerships have been put in place between government agencies and property owners to ensure proper housing is available for residents regardless of their social and economic status (US Department of Housing and Urban Development, n.d.).
Strategies to produce change
The strategies used by the Housing Urban Development are to find quality residences for the physically challenged and the aged, which are strategically located, safe, accessible and affordable (US Department of Housing and Urban Development, n.d.). This is to ensure a comfortable home environment that makes them feel at home.
Since housing is a basic need, the program had a strategy of having quality places that showed improvement in the quality of life for those who reside there. They had to ensure that they were located in a friendly environment that could not discriminate against their odds.
There are strategies in place to reduce the number of people in society who are rendered homeless or have faced discrimination due to their disabilities and, therefore, have a home for them where they could be catered for and housed. These strategies implemented to assist in keeping individuals out of long-term care facilities while they age.
Need of the target population
The aged may encounter issues finding housing simply because they may have limited income or no income at all and cannot afford to house themselves. Physically challenged individuals may also face iss.

Week 1 Assignment
Milestones in Human Services Evaluation
Since the 17th century, the goal of human services has been to improve the lives of at-risk members of society. If a community need existed, a service was provided. The scope and practice of implementing these programs have evolved over time. For example, since the Great Depression, the concept of social welfare has grown in scope and complexity. Human services programs have always focused on serving and protecting at-risk populations and families, but the variety of human services programs and initiatives has changed. Today, human services programs continue to address a broader set of social welfare issues such as homelessness, HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, and other issues, as well as to provide rehabilitation settings, support groups, information sessions, and literature. Organizations such as the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) and the Council for Standards in Human Service Education (CSHSE) have emerged to guide human services professionals and their programs. These organizations provide codes of ethics and certification examinations to increase credibility and accountability in the human services profession. Because of these emerging trends and professional organizations, program evaluation has become increasingly important and has affected the field of human services.
In this Assignment, you will consider the time line of milestones in human services evaluation. You will select one milestone to examine more closely and explore the importance of that milestone in the development of evaluation procedures in human services. You will also analyze the general significance of program evaluation for the effective delivery of human services.
To prepare for this Assignment:
Review the article “The Changing Nature of Accountability in Administrative Practice,” focusing on the history of accountability in human services. Think about the events that have forced the transformation of accountability.
Review the “Introduction to Program Evaluation” time linein the media for this week and select one milestone of interest to you. Consider how the milestone you selected has affected program evaluation in the human services field.
The Assignment (1–2 pages):
Describe the milestone you selected from the time line.
Explain how the milestone has affected the emphasis on evaluation in the human services field and/or has changed the way human services professionals conduct evaluations.
Explain the overall importance of program evaluation in determining the effectiveness of human services delivery.

1)Hey---------, I like your introduction, your thesis is clear and it is in the last sentence of the intro. I think that the big theme of this story is to hold on to our traditional ancestral values, or at least respect these values because they are important and we clearly see it in the story. I would suggest to watch out for spelling errors and to work a little more on your conclusion, I would recommend giving more summary and more details in explaining your thesis.
2) hello -----,
I like your explination and view of this short story. Other then giving a little more detail from the story I think you did great. What made you choose this story to write about?
After reading you paper what made you choice this story? I like how you talk about the story and how you break everything down. Dead Men's Path by China Achebe delves into the implications of making choices. Achebe uses symbolism to bring home his views on the repercussions that choices people make can have on their lives. Achebe presents a society that is torn apart in two divides: between the tradition on one hand and modernity on the other hand. The society is not willing to welcome the new progressive thoughts that have been brought by the missionaries(Achebe, 2009). Through the use of symbolism, Achebe makes a cataclysmic flowing story that has much deeper imnsights than the superficial representations in words. What are some of the dangers of disregarding the opinions that is supported by majority in the society? Achebe’s Dead Men's Path answers this question using symbolic presentations. Comment by Joseph: Set off titles. Comment by Joseph: Be careful of the spelling of names. Comment by Joseph: You don’t need a citation for simple plot summary. Comment by J.

1.The Florida bog frog could be a small and uncommon land and water proficient. This species features a yellowish-brown upper body, a yellow stomach, brown eardrum, yellow throat, a contract ridge that runs along the side down the back, and littler webbed feet with bigger toes . There's restricted data accessible approximately the reproduction of the Florida bog frog. Florida bog frogs breed between the months of April and August. Amid the breeding season, marsh frogs will let out boisterous “chucks” to pull in a mate.Florida bog frogs occupy numerous regions including shallow, acidic spring leaks; boggy floods of streams; .The most risk to the Florida marsh frog is the degradation of its habitat. Bog frogs flourish best in early succession vegetation.
2.The Florida mouse is a species of rodent in the family Cricetidae. It is the only species in the genus Podomys, which is the single mammal genus endemic to Florida. I like this mouse because it reminds me of Mickey Mouse created by Walt Disney, and redirect me to its amusement parks in Orlando, Florida. This mouse also caught my attention because it looks so funny and different from the rest of the mice. The Florida mouse is found only in a limited area in central peninsular Florida and one small area in the Florida panhandle. The mouse inhabits some of Florida's hottest and driest regions in the high pinelands, sandhills, flatlands, and coastal scrub. They average between 5 to 8 inches long, and their tails are between 2 to 3.5 inches long, weighing between 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce. The Florida mouse has soft silky fur that is brown or brownish-orange in color. Its underparts are white. Their ears are large and furless. Their tails are long, and their back paws are large and have 5 pads. Their teeth are sharp, and they use them for gnawing.
The Florida mouse is nocturnal and is active throughout the year except on unusually cold nights. The mouse can climb but is primarily a terrestrial species. They communicate by emitting high pitched squeals, and when they are excited, they thump the ground with their front paws producing a drumming sound. The Florida mouse also has a distinctive odor, almost like a skunk. A baby of a Florida mouse is called a pinkie, kitten, or pup. The females are called doe and males buck. A Florida mouse group is called a nest, colony, harvest, horde, or mischief.
The Florida mouse is an omnivore, and its diet consists of acorns when available, insects, seeds, nuts, fungi, crickets, ticks, fruit, berries, and other plant material and vertebrates. A 1987 report indicates the mouse feeds on engorged ticks (
Ornithodorus turicata americanus
) that parasitize gopher frogs (
Rana areolata
) and gopher tortoises.
According to the official State of Florida's Endangered and Threatened Species List of wildlife, the Florida mouse is considered as State Species of Special Conce.

1. The Miami blue butterfly may be a little butterfly .The Miami blue butterfly can be found in tropical pine rock-lands, and beach side in Florida. The Miami blue was thought extinct until it was rediscovered in 1999 . In spite of many changes the Bahia Honda populace held on until 2010, when it vanished, maybe due to a combination of dry spell, cold temperatures, and being eaten by non-native green iguanas. They was rediscovered in Key West National Natural life Asylum in 2006. The are one of Florida most endangered species. I love butterflies because they're colorful with wings of distinctive patterns. I love how they change from caterpillars to cocoons to butterflies. Its so relate able to life , always changing and evolving . Its astonishing that the butterfly emerges from the unpleasant small caterpillar and shapes a cocoon and after that rises as a butterfly
2.Six families of dragonflies exist in Florida with most found near ponds and other freshwater sources. Dragonflies feature large eyes that make up most of their head and a muscular body that helps the insects use their large wings to fly. Sometimes you'll see dragonflies hovering near blacktop parking lots, but for the most part, the insects stay near water except when they look for a mate. They then return to the water to breed and deposit eggs.
Adult dragonflies will eat any insect as long as they can catch it. Dragonfly nymphs live in the water, and they usually wait on aquatic vegetation.
From the nymph stage to the adult stage, the dragonfly has a significant, positive ecological impact. Dragonfly eggs are laid and hatched in or near water, so their lives impact both water and land ecosystems. Once hatched, dragonfly nymphs can breathe underwater, and they use a motion similar to jet propulsion to move through their environment. This enables them to eat harmful aquatic organisms such as mosquito larvae. The nymph will continue contributing to this ecosystem for one to five years before becoming a mature adult. The adult dragonfly has enormous compound eyes that are useful in searching for flying insects. While flying, it uses its six legs to scoop food out of the air. Clasping the prey in its front legs, it then eats the insect in flight.
Dragonflies play ecological roles not only as predators but also as prey of birds, frogs, and other creatures. The presence of dragonflies indicates freshwater. One of the most useful dragonfly facts is that they reside low in the food chain, so a scientific study of their numbers and their health can reveal changes in water ecosystems more quickly than studying other animals or plants. Some national parks are beginning to use this species to survey and document the health of the park's water ecosystems. Since dragonflies eat mosquitoes and other insects, they help gardeners and outdoor enthusiasts. This also helps the environment because it allows humans to reduce the u.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Aging Latinos in Action - ALA
CCCIL is committed to developing the staff and community
leadership necessary to ensure that our local aging Latino
population can lead the most independent and healthy lives
possible. CCCIL’s ALA initiative rests on the premise that a
community rooted in a culture of independent living and health
requires outreach, education, engagement, action and reflection.
ALA directly addresses CCCIL’s priority areas including 1)
Developing an engaged constituency of community leaders with
disabilities to act on local issues that will build and maintain a
healthy, vibrant and independent community; and 2) Addressing
the needs of the rapidly increasing aging population as it
naturally increases in needs for disability services These two
priorities are intimately interwoven as the cultural needs of
specific populations including Latinos and aging adults pose
unique opportunities and challenges as our nation re-invents
how we look at access to care and health. Further, as disabilities
are a natural part of the aging process, CCCIL is uniquely
qualified to develop leadership in this area.
With investment from the UU Fund for a Just Society, CCCIL
will have the opportunity to focus on the outreach, education
and action that will both serve and organize a larger
constituency of Monterey County’s aging Latino adults.
With the UU investment, the ALA initiative will continue its 8
month pilot project into a second year and focus on:
Outreach
July - December
including Area
Agencies on Aging, service providers & churches) to invite
aging Latinos to participate in ALA Health Academies
2. Education September - March

to help them access benefits.
· In addition to the education pieces in the Health Care
Academies, CCCIL may organize 1-2 workshops on specific
topics identified as needs by the community that could include
accessing home health care.
Engagement January - June
· Each Healthcare Academy will have an opportunity for small
group meetings where participants will be asked a question such
as What has been your experience accessing health care? Each
group will report out to the larger group and potential areas for
action will be identified. Participants will then be asked who
might be interested in a follow up meeting to have more
conversation and education on this issue.
· Participants who have expressed interest during the Health
Care Academy will be invited to join the ALA Leadership
Team. The ALA Leadership Team will receive additional
training with staff and CCCIL partners including COPA,
Communities Organized for Relational Power in Action.
Opportunities for Action January - June

Paper description
Explain the proposed program’s activities, scope of work,
schedule of programs, and why you think the program will be
effective. 500 word Maximum
For this assignment you are to write a narrative in which
you state the intended results of the project for which you are
requesting funds, describe the activities and methods you will
use to achieve those results, show how and when they will be
carried out. There is also a mention how you will evaluate your
project's success. (There will not be a full evaluation plan here,
as the evaluation plan is provided in the Expected Program
Outcomes, Expected Measurable Results and Data Collection
Methodology).
This section of your grant proposal should lay the groundwork
for your budget request, by providing information about the
staffing, materials, equipment, facilities and contractual
services (if any) that will be necessary to carry out the project.
Good Project Descriptions include between one and four broad
goals, and between one and four measurable outcomes for each
goal. They are clear and thorough, but concise, and should
leave the reader with few if any questions about how the project
will be implemented, and by whom.
Pay attention to the structure and organization of your narrative,
6. and make sure to proofread to correct misspellings or
grammatical errors. Generally speaking, short paragraphs that
are focused around a strong topic sentence are most effective in
proposal writing.
The following table outlines the areas in which your project
description will be assessed, and the relative point values for
each.

Sociology 151: Formal Organizations
Questions on Cognitive Limits on Rationality
March and Simon, “Cognitive Limits on Rationality,” from
Organizations, 2nd ed. (1993)
March and Simon see the “rational man” of economics as
making “optimal” choices in a highly specified and clearly
defined environment with four features or characteristics. What
are they?
March and Simon see existing models of rational man as making
“three exceedingly important demands upon the choice-making
mechanism.” What are they?
7. March and Simon see most human decision making as being
concerned with the discovery and selection of which kind of
alternatives, “optimal” or “satisfactory?”
March and Simon see what portion of behavior in organizations
as being governed by “performance programs?
a. some
b. about half
c. most
d. all
In organizations where various aspects of a whole complex
problem are handled by different individuals and groups, what
“fundamental technique” is used to simplify the problem?
What way to assign jurisdictions within organizations is often
called “organization by purpose” or “departmentalization by
purpose?”
March and Simon write that the tendency of members of an
organizational unit to put subgoals ahead of the goals of the
larger organization is reinforced by (at least) three cognitive
mechanisms. What are those three cognitive mechanisms?
In organizations, March and Simon see two principal types of
in-groups as playing significant roles in filtering information.
What are they?
This in turn leads March and Simon to distinguish between two
different types of “identifications.” What are they?
Under what circumstances does it become likely that a decision
will be reached by predominately bargaining processes?
To what extent do rational, analytic processes take precedence
over bargaining processes?
