Important Concepts on Film Edition
Section 1F 1. Define parallel editing, montage sequence, and master shot, using Nichols. Give an
example of parallel editing that you notice in The Terminator. a. Parallel editing is method of editing
scenes that shows two separate incidents happening at once. In The Terminator, this editing method
was used when, after calling Sarah Conner pretending to be her mom, the terminator comes to the
hotel that she and Kyle were staying at. During this scene, the scene where Sarah Conner and Kyle are
talking and preparing to leave and the scene where the terminator is approaching the hotel crosscuts.
Thus, the audience knows that the danger is approaching. b. Montage sequence is group of shots that
marks the change in time or the unfolding of a process. (Nichols, 2010) c. Master shot is a shot that
provides an overview of the scene showing all the characters movement and gestures. It is different
from establishing shot in that establishing shot often puts a bigger action into play. In The Terminator,
master shot is applied when Kyle, in the future world, enters the underground hut where human beings
stay, master shot is used to show the movement and gestures of Kyle and all the other soldiers. 2.
Briefly summarize Pudovkin s essay on editing. What does he see as the function of editing in relation
to narrative? What is his argument concerning editing as an instrument of impression ? a. Pudovkin,

Budget
This is a proposal for CIO manufacturing training exercises set to begin later this year. In this
summary I will discuss milestones, project budget and duration for the budget to give an idea of what
kind of time and resources will be needed to accomplish our goal of training our management on the
new compliance system. The total duration of the training exercise will comprise 3 months. This will
allow time for resources to be coordinated, training teachers to be hired and training software to be
integrated. For one hardware purchases will need to be made to accommodate the ... Show more

Training software will need to be purchased to account for the training exercises and these will total
an estimated 400 dollars.
Actual training will take place over two days so that we can house a large number of employees while
working very quickly at training them efficiently. Duration estimated were decided by looking at
average training times used by similar businesses and the type of training we are trying to achieve.
The overall project budget will be split into 4 quarters to highlight the expenses needed at each time
frame. This will help to breakdown the overall budget into smaller more manageable expenses to get
more detail into what is being spent and what it is being spent on. These quarterly expenditures will do
a lot to keep costs as efficient as possible and provide a closer look at how these resources are being
divided. There will be a total of 15 managers participating in this training exercise and each one will
have things such as hardware resources, food, flight expenditures as well as trainers and consultants to
help them along the way. This will leave nothing left to chance and provide all available resources to
complete the training in a fast and efficient way. While many of these figures are close estimates there
will be unused expenses toward the end to allow for fourth quarter expenses to be provided for if need
be. The three month project will account for all stages of the training process from beginning to end

The s Parents Were Alice Jane Mckey And Henry Burroughs...
John Henry Holiday, presently recognized as Doc, was born on August 14, 1851 in Griffin. Doc s
parents were Alice Jane McKey and Henry Burroughs Holiday. They offered a high quality education
for Doc, although his main concern was the vast outdoors. He was more interested in horseback riding
and fishing. In 1861, his father Henry Burroughs Holliday acknowledged a presidential engagement
from Davis Jefferson in order to serve like a Quartermaster within 27th Ga. Infantry. After Manassas
Battle, he was endorsed toward the level of chief and scuffles within Peninsula Campaign as fine as
Malvern Hill Battle. After fighting at Malvern Hill Battle in 1862, poor health forced him to leave
suddenly from the military and go back to his relatives in Griffin. From the time when the battle came
nearer to habitat, the Holiday families reallocated to the southern side of Georgia, Loundes County
where they established on a 2,440 acre ranch ten miles from Valdosta. Henry Burroughs Holiday was
in suspense to locate a safe asylum for his child and wife. Unluckily, this was not the case. Generals
John Logan, William T. Sherman and James McPherson had prepared their way toward Atlanta,
killing and burning everything in scene. Around 1864, John Logan and William T. Sherman had
proved thriving in demoralizing every part of Georgia. Southerners tottered under the collision.
Additionally, farms, homes and plantations were burnt and damaged. Wells were also poisoned.

The Importance Of The Sea Otters
Did you know that the endangerment or eventual extinction of a species affects other animal
extinction and eventually affects human well being? One such species is the sea otter. The sea otter
has an important role in the ecological preservation of pacific kelp forests.
Sea Otters contribute towards the overall health and well being of the ecosystem they inhabit. The sea
otter is an important predator in the nearshore marine ecosystem of the North Pacific Ocean. It is
considered a keystone species in the ecosystem. They limit the prey populations of a variety of marine
invertebrates that reside near the shore. Sea otters have large scale community effects disproportionate
to their abundance. (Carswell and Long, 2). Their main prey consists of sea urchins and abalone. Sea
urchins and abalone devour the kelp forests that run along the coasts of California. Sea otters
contribute to kelp production by eating these invertebrates, thus where there are sea otters, kelp forests
spread along the continental shelf. The California kelp forests have the greatest biodiversity of the
temperate latitudes (Recarte) Kelp forests are the Ocean s rainforest (Recarte). Sea Otters are
considered a sentinel species, which means their fitness reveals the health of the ecosystem.
Contaminants in the ocean have a large effect on Sea Otters. These contaminants cause
biomagnification because of the lack of enzymes to break down and expel the toxins. Examples of
contaminants that affect Sea

Mark Menis-Kyleer Analysis
During World War II, the allied forces planned an invasion against the German army at the beaches of
Normandy, France. With this assault still hours away, the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division
Paratroopers were already executing night drops behind enemy lines. An article published at
www.warhistoryonline.com states, the paratroopers were to disrupt the German defense lines and use
the element of surprise while the main force landed the beaches (Budanovic). Foggy weather made
drop zone accuracy difficult for the 82nd, but they adapted and did their best to complete their
mission. This same determination resonates in the life of a more recent veteran of the 82nd Airborne,
1st LT. Mark Menis Kyler. In a recent interview, he shared his story with ... Show more content on

Menis Kyler always knew he wanted to serve in the U.S. Military, although he says he had no specific
reason for choosing the Army. After basic at Fort Knox, I went to Fort Leonard Wood for AIT he says.

replies with a grin. Then I inquired what AIT meant (Advanced Infantry Training) and what came
next. The Lieutenant went on to tell me I just decided I wanted to jump out of airplanes , so he went to
Fort Bragg, N.C. where he remain stationed after jump school. Menis Kyler described his deployment
during Operation Iraqi Freedom. While serving overseas, he was involved in 3 4 jumps, which
included flanking enemy forces to assist a convoy in need of assistance or to provide reinforcement
during combat. The 82nd also patrolled streets in Iraq to determine potential threats, investigated
intelligence on terrorist locations and made arrests, and located and seized weapons cashes of terrorist
organizations. When the Lieutenant was back at base, he continued to train and qualify as a
paratrooper. In addition to this training, Menis Kyler simultaneously used his GI Bill to attend

Personal Finance Case
McLaughlin (2009) states that the example organizations balance sheet (p. 125) does not show
adequate cash assets (line 45), given a supposed annual budget of $3.5 million dollars, to provide
adequate daily cash flow needs (p. 124). With year end cash assets of only $16,190, working down the
list of liquidable assets using McLaughlin s water metaphor savings and short term cash investments,
A/R, and (in the case of for profit industry) inventories for sale, the companies working capital could
be substantially increased providing more cash reserves.

Fortunately, there is an abundance of information available for nonprofit organizations regarding
financial risk assessments. Our example company would certainly benefit with a much larger cash
reserve, but it would also help to have, as mentioned, an understanding of cash flow needs well
described within a definitive budget. Having an understanding of approximate times required to
acquire cash from various assets would be helpful as well. External evaluation tools such as provided
by companies like Grant Thornton could be used to improve risk assessments, or perhaps just getting a
second (or third) opinion from an accounting agency to cover items possibly overlooked by internal
analysis. Klein (2013), writing for Grant Thornton, outlines their reserves planning packet: 1. Develop
a baseline long term financial forecast. 2. Perform a detailed analysis of potential risks. 3. Quantify
your average annual risk exposure. 4. Establish your target reserves level and funding approach (text).
These types of outlines could help establish a basis for understanding what any agencies financial

Charter Schools Research Paper
Charter Schools
Charter schools are a type of public school that is open enrollment. It has been growing immensely as
the years go on. 42 out of the 50 states have voted that charter schools are a part of their state s
education system. There are over five thousand charter schools in the United State with over two
million students enrolled. The schools are run by teachers and certified teachers. They are considered
to be an alternative public school that creates a high quality public school choices that cater to the
child s specific needs. Charter schools do not believe in the idea that education is one size fits all and
the choices that they give offer more opportunities to the children for success. Charter schools are very
similar to traditional public schools. They are technically open to all who apply. They cannot

The Canadian Government And The Aboriginal People
In the 19th century, The Canadian government believed that it was their job to educate the Aboriginal
people in Canada. European settlers felt that the aboriginal people were savage, ignorant, and like
children needed guidance, and needed to be civilized . Ultimately, they wanted to assimilate the
Aboriginal people into Canadian and Christian ways of living life in Canada. The Canadian
government came up with a policy called aggressive assimilation to be taught at industrial schools that
would be run by the churches and government funded. They chose children to go to these schools
because they are easier to manipulate and mold than the adults and felt that school was the best way to
do so. With the hopes of the assimilated children will teach their children their new way of life and
that their traditions and culture will diminish or be completely gone in a few generations. In the 1880
s, the government began to construct the residential schools across Canada. Authorities often would
take kids from their home, to isolate them from their family and familiar communities. In 1920 is
when the Indian Act came in effect where every Aboriginal child was obligated to attend a residential
school and it was illegal for them to go to any other institution. Moving on to oppression which
Aboriginal children faced much of. Oppression is defined as the social act of placing severe

The Roles Of Women Of Andalusia
The Roles of Extraordinary Women of Andalusia Muslim women have the same rights as men and
they have to fulfill and attain the same duties of worship such as prayer, zikr, give money to the poor,
fasting, and make pilgrimage to Mecca the holy place. In the pre Islamic era, the Jahiliya era, women
were not allowed to do anything, they had no rights. Women from the Bedioun tribes had no legal
status whatsoever. The fathers forced their daughters to get married for money and also, many fathers
infanticide their daughters because they were seeing as nothing important in the society. The tribes
were all male controlled. The heritage was passed on to the following generations through male lines.
Women had no legal right in inheriting property. The head of the tribes limited the rights of women
and took away their freedom. Prior to Islam, women were seen as property to be seized in tribal or
ethnic battles and conflicts. Women had no possessions or succession rights. Their very essential role
was to produce children, especially male offspring. Women had to cook, milk animals, and wash
clothes; they also had to spun wool and wave fabric for the tribal tens. However, when Islam was
found, it gave full rights and freedom to women.
Islam developed the position of women from the Arab cultures. The Sharia Law drew attention to the
proper way of marriage for women. Islam forbids the dowry of a female to be given to her family
rather than to the female who is getting married. Islam

Long Term Effects of Childhood Separation Anxiety
Long Term Effects of Childhood Separation Anxiety
Abstract
This report delves into the connection between childhood separation anxiety disorder and the long
term implications that it may have. To understand the connections I preformed secondary research
through Academic Search Complete . I found that childhood separation anxiety disorder is connected
with serious mental disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, social phobias, depression, and behavior
disorders. Many studies have shown that childhood separation anxiety disorder is linked to eating
disorders and depression. Research shows that cortisol, the hormone our body releases to deal with
stress, can negatively affect our overall health. Childhood separation anxiety disorder can ... Show

The study stated that there was a stronger correlation between childhood separation anxiety disorder
and anorexia than there was between childhood separation anxiety disorder and bulimia.
Cortisol has been shown to have the greatest effect on the health of a person. Cortisol is a hormone
released in stressful situations. Cortisol levels in young children have been shown to increase when
the child is left in the care of someone they are unfamiliar with and when they attempt to interact or
play with large groups of other children. (Turvett 2008) Lack of control in a situation is associated
with a lack of recovery of cortisol, which can lead to a range of negative health effects. (Ursin 2004)
Discussion
The main purpose of my research was to find the association between childhood separation anxiety
disorder and mental disorders in adolescents and adults. Based on the results, high stress levels and
childhood separation anxiety disorder can be used to predict mental and psychiatric disorders later in a
child s life. When a child experiences the symptoms of separation anxiety disorder their body releases
hormones and if these hormones are heightened or too frequent the child has a higher risk of eating
disorders, depression, anxiety, and behavior disorders throughout the adolescence and adulthood
stages of their life.

Character Analysis Of Buster Keaton s Sherlock Jr
In Sherlock Jr, demonstrate a man which is a movie projectionist frustrated in love because the object
of his affections is attracted to a dishonest rival. Sherlock Jr is also an aspiring detective, and when the
girl s father s pocket watch disappears he tries to take charge of the situation. But the rival contrives to
make him look like the culprit. While projecting a show about two lovers and a similar domestic
crime, Sherlock experiences a bizarre daydream of entering the world of the movie. Buster Keaton
introduces a man who is trying to impress a girl by giving her a ring. There are certain things in the

vision for the audience to see the ring that Sherlock Jr gives to the girl. Thus, the audience attentive
the importance of the object to the main characters.
Further, he uses a close up of the ring to show excitement and anxiety of the scene. As I mentioned,
the close up of the scene is important because it s a demonstration of a better perspective of the ring.
The excitement in a way the girl wants to know what is inside the ring, and the feeling of wearing it.
The anxiety of being nervous at the same time.
In addition, the setting happens in the girl s house which is middle class. In my perspective, the
director chooses this setting to emphasize the events yet to come, and it is where the plot begins to
form. For example, its fashion, and the quality of the furniture made it seem to have the feeling of a
middle class house. Thus, the setting of the house presents the major events of the film overall. Keaton
uses the actor s facial expressions, framing to build the excitement and anxiety of the scene. He uses
acting to express their facial expressions to demonstrate emotions by showing excitement and
disappointment while giving a ring, and anxiety in both characters. The close up of the ring illustrates

Prisons and the UK Criminal Justice System
The ongoing role of prison within the UK Criminal Justice System is becoming increasingly unclear.
On the one hand in the 21st century, it is considered to be a state strategy for crime control, a deterrent
for those contemplating crime and punitive response for those who have broken laws McAvinchey
(2011 pg.10). On the other hand, it is also supposed to have a rehabilitative purpose, the intended role
of a prison is to rehabilitate the offender so that when they have completed their prison sentence, they
can be successfully rehabilitated back into the community and live a crime free fulfilled life. Yet,
when examining the vital statistics that underline an increase in prisoner population, it is clearly

Høidal , a prison officer in Halden prison Norway 2012 explains
Everyone who is imprisoned inside Norwegian prisons will be released and will go back to society.
We look at what kind of neighbour you want to have when they come out. If you stay in a box for a
few years, then you are not a good person when you come out. If you treat them hard... well, we don t
think that treating them hard will make them a better man. We don t think about revenge in the
Norwegian prison system. We have much more focus on rehabilitation , Guardian newspaper (2012).
This focus on rehabilitation as opposed to punishment appears to have had positive effects, as
reoffending rates were less than 30% in 2013 in Norway, Guardian newspaper (2012). This was the
lowest reoffending rate in Europe in that year; it is currently half of the reoffending rates within the
UK. It could be said that this therapeutic type of prison is controversial, as one may argue that they are
not punishing offenders for the crimes that they have committed, with the belief that prison life should
not be enjoyable. Osbourne from the New York Times argues that prisons should not be a place of

Analysis Of The Movie Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor Film Review A romantic classic, From Here to Eternity was released in 1953. The film
was directed by Fred Zinnemann and produced by Columbia Pictures. From Here to Eternity is based
on the days prior to Pearl Harbor and the day of in Hawaii. One of the main characters, Prewitt played
by Montgomery Clift, was a private who was abused by the army for not joining the units boxing
team, but choosing to play the bugle instead. Cold hearted Capt. Holmes was played by Philip Ober.
He orders Prewitt to a many unnecessary tasks while his wife, Deborah Kerr, cheats on him with
another Sargent, Burt Lancaster. From Here to Eternity is historically accurate since it coincides with
the material from Richard Overy s Why the Allies Won and John Jefferies Wartime America. First, the
film is historically accurate of the date in which the Japanese attacked U.S. Naval Base at Pearl
Harbor. The entire film took place in Hawaii, USA and it portrayed the attack that occurred on
December 7 Japanese aircraft attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor (Overy p.15) The
films date was the same as the date reported in the Overy novel, making a direct factual connection of
the event. Secondly Jefferies book and Fred Zinnemann s film both brought out the significance of
marriage in America in 1941. The essential theme in the film is romance and finding someone to
marry. Not only was the consistent idea of new marriages displayed in the movie, but Jefferies book

How Did Pope Leo XIII Impact The Society
The Influence of Pope Leo XIII
Having new opportunities in life is exciting, but when those opportunities become the obstacle to
pursue happiness, life may lose its meaning. Something similar happened during the industrial
revolution when society changed. However, the church was present to advocate for those whose
happiness was taken away. Pope Leo XIII marked the history of society by writing the Rerum
Novarum Encyclical during the industrial revolution. While the industrial revolution transformed the
history of the world with the creation of new factories, it also changed society by originating two
classes, the wealthy and the poor. Pope Leo XIII, saw that advantages and disadvantages of the
industrial revolution and decided to convey the injustices happening at that time. Pope Leo XIII used
the scripture and reason of natural law to argue about the common goods and the rights of the workers.
Sharing benefits between members of the community is a principle that Pope Leo XIII transmitted in
his encyclical. The church has always been on behalf of the poor. For that reason
Pope Leo XIII used that Bible as a way to support his idea of the common good. He cited, There was
not a needy person among them, for as many as owned land or houses sold them and brought the
proceeds of what was sold. (Acts 4:34). This passage supports his idea of the common good through a
spiritual interpretation with a moral lesson, which encourages the wealthy people to help or share their

She didn t know who he was so she asked very kindly, Who are you. Hades didn t want her to know

Clifford The Ethics Of Belief Summary
What is Evidentialism? As evidentialism is a thesis about epistemic justification, it is a thesis about
what it takes for one to believe justifiably, or reasonably, in the sense thought to be necessary for
knowledge (Mittag). Now what does that mean in order for someone to believe in something, they
must see the real proof have hardcore evidence. One famous argument about evidentialism is by
William Kingdon Clifford, (born May 4, 1845, Exeter, Devon, England died March 3, 1879, Madeira
Islands, Portugal) British philosopher and mathematician. Although he was most famous for his work
as a mathematician, Clifford also wrote, The locus classicus for the ethics of belief debate is,
unsurprisingly, the essay that christened it. The Ethics of Belief was published, in a journal called
Contemporary Review. (Chingell)
As stated in his writing, The Ethics of Belief, W.F. Clifford tells a story of a ship captain a story that
has sparked many arguments across the world and made people question their beliefs. The story is
about a ship captain who has doubts that his ship is in perfect condition to sail, the ship was in
desperate need of many repairs, regardless of what the crew was telling him, he believes that his
doubts are silly since there is no evidence that states that the ship is unworthy. In order to make
himself feel better he convinces himself that the ship is in perfect condition. The crazy part is that the
ship captain genuinely believed that nothing was wrong with the

The Cultural Structures Of The United States
Very often people live their lives without the awareness of the basic structures that they are exposed to
and adapted into. The very things that regulate our day to day lives are often overlooked or never
noticed. Johnson discovered this while vacationing in Mexico. While appreciating his time away from
home, he came to realize that he had lost his actual sense of time. This created a feeling of uneasiness
and the general feeling of being lost. Johnson wasn t lost in the sense of being in an unidentified place;
he was lost due to his withdrawal from his cultural time structure. Nature is not defined by minutes,
hours, weeks, or years. Time is a creation of people, yet in some cultures is regarded as being natural .
Because systems are integral to culture, Johnson came to realize that time organization is much more
than creating a distinction between specific moments within a given day. He realized that the concept
of time was created to allow a cultural structure to regulate itself and to organize the people within it.
It allows for efficiency and the ability of people to conduct themselves within their culture s
expectations. These cultural expectations are what shape the social structures found within a society.
The social structures are the things that design relationships between people and people, people and
systems, or systems and systems. The social structures provide a blueprint for how we are to live our
lives in relation to one another. In one sense, social

Funeral Home Industry
Introduction:
There has always been a death industry but as the industry changes from product based purchases to
experience based there is a growing need in the industry to accommodate for how the industry is doing
to shift in the upcoming generations. The existing funeral homes are the traditional style interiors that
the previous generation got accustom with the product base design, but more funerals are become
more personal and deviate from the previous funeral ideas. Just like every funeral service is unique,
the grieving process is different from one person to the next. With providing a service that takes into
account of different techniques, whether through the space, social interaction or counselling helps
process the grief of the individual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The funeral industry is changing from product based to experience based, and from burial to
cremations (National Funeral Directors Association [NFDA], 2015; Koop Kemp, 2007; Wolfelt,
2004). Traditional funeral homes started off as having funerals in the deceased homes, then creating
buildings that have a home like interiors. The generation at the time was all about the price of the
required products; like the price of the casket, what was the casket made of, wood or metal, what was
the best price for the burial lots (Steven Kemp, 2007). The industry was previously mostly a product
driven industry but, as the industry is changing the funeral service must focus on being customer and
experience driven (Wolfelt, 2004). The baby boomer generation is coming, they are sceptical of
traditional funerals but want some sort of service and want more information about the entire funeral
process and more ideas for personalizing the service (Wolfelt, 2004). Through the generation
difference and the changing market that allows for more of an experience customizable space that
depends on tradition, customs and beliefs of the customer (Wolfelt, 2004; Parkes Laungani Young,
2003). The baby boomers are more likely to choose cremation for body disposition (Wolfelt, 2004;
NFDA, 2015) which provides a market change within the industry. The business of the past is not, and
cannot be, the business of the future. But there is a future in funeral service (Wolfelt, 2004). Today s
funeral director must consciously work to create a package of experience to offer families in
conjunction with or even instead of the product (Wolfelt, 2004). Through bundling of products, it
allows for easier understanding of the products but still allows for customization of the service that the

Also in 2002, the New York State Bank Department observed large sums of money moving in and out
of Tyco s accounts. What made this finding unusual was that the funds were transferred into
Kozlowski s personal accounts. Kozlowski was caught in the act and was facing jail time and having
to pay over $100 million in restitutions and back taxes.
Learning that he was about to be indicted for tax evasion, Kozlowski resigned as CEO on June 2,
2002. On June 3, he was arrested, but the scandal had barely begun. In September of that year, Dennis
Kozlowski and Mark Swartz, who also had resigned, were indicted on thirty eight felony counts for
allegedly stealing $170 million from Tyco and fraudulently selling an additional $430 million in stock
options. Among other allegations, Kozlowski was accused of taking $242 million from a program
intended to help Tyco employees buy company stock. Kozlowski was found guilty on twenty two of
twenty three counts of grand larceny, conspiracy, and falsifying business records, as well as violating
business law. The judge ordered both men to pay $134 million to Tyco. Kozlowski was also ordered to
pay a $70 million fine. Kozlowski s jail time was about seven years in a state facility.
This situation was harmful to the company, to the government, and to the integrity of the ex CEO and
ex CFO. It damaged the company s reputation, resulting in a negative impact on its stock price,

The Wife s Story By Ursula K. Le Guin
Roger Ebert once said Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie to you. In the
short story The Wife s Story Ursula K. Le Guin creates the mood of suspense by using foreshadowing
and other literary devices. Suspense is a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what
may happen. The entire story is filled with the state of feeling of uncertainty as the wife solely alludes
to the major event. It is also obscured in mystery. The story begins with a description of the husband.
He was a good husband, a good father (Le Guin 3), He was always gentle (Le Guin 3). These lines
create confusion, it makes the audience question. In order for the questions to be answered finalizing
the story would have to be done. This foreshadows what will occur later on the story. Le Guin tells
about how they first met and about how his sophistication attracted her. The wife exalted the husbands
integrity. The husband was a good father and was well liked. He was just purely good to me. A hard
worker and never lazy, and so big and fine looking. Everybody looked up to him..... He had such a
beautiful voice (Le Guin 4). To the wife the husband seemed perfect. However, things began to take a
dark turn when the wife started to discuss these events. It was the moon, that s what they say. It s the
moon s fault, and the blood. It was in his father s blood (Le Guin 4). Members of the community
blamed the moon, a connection with blood and the moon. The

Summary Of Meet The New Waves
Rebecca McKenney History and Sociology of Rock Music Mrs. Trimble 22 October 2016 Meet the
New Waves In chapter fifteen of Rock Music Styles: A History, author Katherine Charlton discusses
the musical style of new wave. There are many new way groups in the world, but Charlton only
selected some of the most notable groups. Charlton divided these notable groups by American and
British nationalities. In order to give equal attention to both sides, I have chosen four primary artists to
represent new wave. We will begin with the Americans. Devo was created by Bob and Mark
Mothersbaugh, Bob and Jerry Casale, and Allan Alan Meyers, in 1972, according to All Music Guide.
The group first gained national attention in 1975 when they made a short film entitled The Truth
About De Evolution. The band got their name from the idea that instead of evolving mankind has
actually regressed. The group impacted new wave by the use of surreal humor mixed with
commentary on the current human condition and dehumanized electric music. *According to the band
s official website, Rolling Stone Magazine initially called the group fascist. Their most popular hit in
the United States was Whip It , which at its high of popularity reached number fourteen on Billboard s
Hot One Hundred. The Talking Heads was created by David Byrne and Chris Frantz who were joined
by Tina Weymouth in 1975 and Jerry Harrison in 1976. The Talking Heads were influential to new

Analysis Of The 12 Labours Of Hercules
The twelve labours of Hercules is a myth because it is a story passed down all the way to today s
generation, making it be a traditional tale. Hercules is originally a Roman god; however, it is similar to
the Greek s version of Heracles. This myth is originally from the Latin language which is typically
used by the Romans. The twelve labours of Hercules was originally written by Peisanders and was
then lost in 600 B.C. Hercules was born a demigod with supernatural powers that established the
patterns of life as we know it. According to Synnøve Des Bouvrie and Bascom s definition, the 12
labours of Hercules is a myth because it is traditional, remote, and true. One thing that makes the
twelve labours of Hercules a myth is that it is true. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ideologies are crucial and meaningful in the culture. This myth has etiology because of the second
religious rights that celebrated Demeter and Persephone which for any reason allowed happiness in
the underworld, if we re Hercules were to die during the fight with Cerberus (54C.E:146 147). The
myth provides the fact that it is true, based on a faith s structure. Another thing that makes the twelve
labours of Hercules a myth is because it s traditional. The explanation of why it is believed to be
traditional because Hercules was a demigod and was, therefore, tide in their beliefs in the past which
is a key component of myth(2002: 22). It was considered to be a normal human experience, where
gods, goddesses, and demigods were seen as normal and passed down through their faith. These
historical events are so people could maintain contact with their ancestors. The 12 labors that Hercules
was given was because he wanted the gods to forgive him of his horrendous crimes, and it was known
in their faith/religion to ask the gods for amnesty(54C.E.:36 37). The traditional tell the myth is retold
many years later and has become well known. That also makes his story a tradition, as a tradition is
described as something that has been done consistently for the past hundred years or more. Hercules

Michelangelo Sistine Chapel Ceiling
The Sistine Chapel ceiling is one of my favorite paintings by Michelangelo. It took him four years to
complete it. What I love about it is that he took the Bible stories and painted them onto the ceiling.
Each paint has its own story, and that can speak louder than works at times. As it tells a story, it also
tells us a little bit of what his beliefs are.
The Bible starts by telling us about Adam and Eve. How Eve took the fruit from the snake and gave it
to Adam and then they were ban from the Garden. You will notice a part of the ceiling has that story
painted. He has a man and a woman near the tree of knowledge. She has her hand out to take it from
the snake/man. Just one the other side of the tree it shows them being drove away by an

Continuity Of Pre-Imperial Chinese Religion
Continuity of Pre Imperial Chinese religion
Religion in modern day China is as diverse as its population. From Confucianism to Buddhism,
multiple schools of thought have shaped China s culture across the ages, creating the varied belief s
that are held in the country today. Before these large schools of thought existed, there was popular folk
religion that was practiced in pre Imperial China. Although religion and religious practices have
evolved considerably since then, elements are still interweaved in popular religion of the modern day.
From the Xia through to the early Zhou dynasty, there is clear evidence that religion in these times set
the foundation for later practices and thought. Though some physical rituals have been discontinued ...

Rituals such as animal and human sacrifice have clear reasons as to why they are no longer practiced
in modern society, but religious ideas continue to reflect indigenous beliefs and traditions. There are
five acknowledged independent religions in modern China, Buddhism, Daoism, Islam, Catholicism,
and Protestantism, but the largest percent of the population practice what is simply known as Chinese
folk religion. Ancient shamanism with divination and balance of nature could be viewed as the
foundation for many religions; It is not too difficult to see the traces of shamanism in many religions,
for it really epitomizes humankind s deep rooted subconscious beliefs around the world in which we
live. Shamanism views the universe as an interconnectedness of spirit and matter. Modern ceremonies
and festivals such as Chinese New Year stem from ancient rhythmic and seasonal festivals which were
used to honour ancestors and spirits. Divination and omen reading have been central to both
Confucian and Daoist procedural, while notions of natural balance of the body and spiritual world are
echoed in popular concepts such as Yin and Yang, and are still a strong ideology in the practice of
Buddhism. From martial arts to acupuncture and Chinese herbal therapies, ideas about the human

North America between Canada and Mexico. China is located in Asia between Thailand, Mongolia,
Nepal, and etc.
According to my research, in terms of population, China has greater population than the United States

following five countries are permanent members of the UN Security Council with their location on the

United Kingdom: is located in the southwest of Europe. d United States of America: is located in

Is The Narrator Unreliable In Bartleby The Scrivener
Is the Narrator Unreliable in Bartleby the Scrivener ? Melville created something new in Bartleby the
scrivener; as a well known story the narrator that tells the story is unreliable because he sounds bias to
one of the character in the story. For example from the book first clue he gives us comes in the first
sentence I am a rather elderly man . Instead of taking him right away as a wise old man who is giving
us the story straight, look for contradictions in his narration. His prudence and method might easily
translate into words like greedy or miserly. He claims to be mild mannered but is furious about the
abolition of his former job because he counted on doing little or no work, and making enormous
profits (Melville 406). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

belligerent while working, but rather content that they do not rebel at the same time. A Narrator is just
a person. He is not a particularly kind and understanding man, nor is he an unusually outspoken one.

What Is The Cause Of The Plague During The Middle Ages
During the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries, over one third of Europe s population fell victim to a
treacherous disease nicknamed The Black Death. During The Middle Ages, medicine was not
advanced enough to pinpoint exactly what was causing these tragic losses. However, it was later
discovered that the bacteria originated in rodents, transferred to fleas when they bit the rodents, and
finally reached humans through flea bites. Throughout the troublesome time period when this plague
blanketed Europe, there were a plethora of responses. The most common responses were to stay
isolated/quarantined from other people, to flee the areas where there were outbreaks, and to try and

Use of Irony in Crime and Punishment and A Doll s House
There are many links between Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and A Doll s House, by
Henrik Isben. Each character goes through many ironic situations. Throughout both of the works
dramatic, situational, and verbal irony are used.
Dramatic irony is used throughout Crime and Punishment. The reader knows that Rodion
Romanovitch Raskolnikov killed the pawnbroker, Alyona Ivanovna, and her sister, Lizaveta Ivanovna.
A quote to support this is,
He took the axe right out, swung it up in both hands, barely conscious of what he was doing, and
almost without effort, almost effort, almost mechanically, brought the butt of it down on the old
woman s head. (Dostoyevsky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Doll s House the reader is aware that Nora borrowed money from Krogstad without her husband
s permission. Nora also forged her father s name to gain the money. She says, You don t know all. I
forged a name. (Isben 44) In the following conversation between Nora and Christine it is clearly stated
that Torvald does not know of Nora s actions: Mrs. Linde. And since then have you never told your
secret to your husband? Nora. Good heavens, no! (Isben 13)
Another example of dramatic irony in A Doll s House is when Nora wants to practice a dance called
the Tarantella. When Torvald goes to look in the letter box Nora says, Torvald please don t. There is
nothing in there. (Isben 46) The reader knows that Nora has not forgotten the dance. The reader knows
this when Torvald goes to check the mail and Nora begins to play the Tarantella. Nora then says, I can
t dance to morrow if I don t practise with you. (Isben 46) The reader knows that all Nora is trying to
do is keep Torvald from reading the mail which contains a letter from Krogstad.
Situational irony is also used throughout the two works. In Crime and Punishment Raskolnikov is the
one who murdered the two sisters. It was totally unexpected when Nikolai came to

Social, Political, And Economical Innovation
Throughout the past 20 years, the focus on the World Wide Web has been a compelling area of social,
political, and economical innovation. At one time, the internet was a tool that promoted collaboration
in the realm of research as it was used as a means of sharing scholarly documents between
universities. However, since that time, the internet has evolved into being a way of life. Many people
use the terms Internet and World Wide Web, or just the Web, interchangeably, but the two terms are
not synonymous. The World Wide Web is the primary application that billions of people use on the

This concept will be clarified later in the paper. Hence, the critical thing to focus on is that, when on
the web, hyperlinks can be utilized to navigate through and interact with web based content and
resources.
In order to access the web, one must utilize a tool called a web browser. World Wide Web browser
software, such as Microsoft s Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, lets users navigate from one web
page to another via hyperlinks embedded in the documents. These documents may also contain any
combination of computer data, including graphics, sounds, text, video, multimedia and interactive
content that runs while the user is interacting with the page. Client side software can include
animations, games, office applications and scientific demonstrations. Through keyword driven
Internet research using search engines like Yahoo! and Google, users worldwide have easy, instant
access to a vast and diverse amount of online information. Compared to printed media, books,
encyclopedias and traditional libraries, the World Wide Web has enabled the decentralization of
information on a large scale (author unknown, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet). This more
formal explanation of how the web works now opens the door to a detailed discussion on the concept
of what URL means.

The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston
In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston crafts a fictitious memoir of her girlhood among
ghosts. The book s classification as a memoir incited significant debate, and the authenticity of her
representation of Chinese American culture was contested by Asian American scholars and authors.
The Woman Warrior is ingenuitive in its manipulation of the autobiographical genre. Kingston
integrates the value of storytelling in her memoir and relates it to dominant themes about silence,
cultural authenticity, and the cultivation of identity. Throughout her work, Kingston reaches a variety
of conclusions about the stories her mother told her by writing interpretations of her mother, Brave

She considers that some man had commanded her to lie with him and be his secret evil. (Kingston 6).
Kingston writes her initial version of the No Name Woman, who was raped, raided, and died an
outcast, but Kingston determines that this telling does not fit her understanding of China. Therefore,
Kingston entertains another hypothetical, that her aunt took a lover and saved him from shame by
giving silent birth and not revealing the lover s identity (Kingston 11). Here, Kingston critically
examines the inherited talk story of her mother to determine the meaning she should obtain from the
death of her aunt. Her mother s conclusion is that she must not become pregnant, but Kingston is
uncertain about the simplicity of her mother s story. In the No Name Woman, Kingston introduces the
fictitious memoir structure that she utilizes through the variety of interpretations of her aunt s story.
Consistently through the memoir, Kingston writes contrasting accounts of the same stories and
imagines the stories of others to further her themes about silence, authenticity, and identity formation.
Kingston begins The Woman Warrior by writing a story which started with her mother insisting that
she must not tell anyone...what I am about to tell you. (Kingston 3). Kingston s first written words are
a defiance of this silencing. Silence is a motif that permeates the entirety of The Woman Warrior;

Abstract
Nicole Oresme, also known as Nicolas Oresme, was born around 1320 in the 14th century on the

known as one of the most famous scholastic philosophers of the middle age s. He was known for
many different subjects including; economics, physics, astrology, astronomy, theology, philosophy,
and mathematics. Oresme earned his doctorate of arts from the University of Paris between the years
of 1341 1342. In the same year he became grand master of the College of Navarre. He mainly wrote in

He came about the idea to use rectangular coordinates and geometric figures to explain uniform and
non uniform distribution of various quantities. For example, he worked on the change of velocity in
relation to time. More importantly, this helped lay a strong foundation that later led to the discovery of
analytic geometry by René Descartes. Oresme used his geometric figures to give the first proof of the
Merton theorem, shown in figure 1 below. This theorem states, The distance traveled in any given
period by a body moving under uniform acceleration is the same as if the body moved at a uniform
speed equal to its speed at the midpoint of the period [2]. Some believe that this resulted in later
discoveries of kinematics, affecting the later work of Galileo s.
Figure 1 Another mathematical contribution was the development of the first proof of the divergence
of the harmonic series. Oresme s proof had less advanced mathematics then the modern proof today.
His proof on the harmonic series was not touched on until later centuries, and was only replicated by
the Bernoulli brothers [1]. Oresmes proof groups the harmonic terms by taking 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on,
after the first two terms, and noting that each block has a sum larger than a ½ [3]. Resulting

also paid them not to raise pigs and lambs. The money to pay the farmers for cutting back production
of about 30% was raised by a tax on companies that bought the farm products and processed them into
food and clothing. The AAA also became involved in trying to help farmers destroyed by the creation
of the dust bowl in 1934.

Essay on Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid
Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid In the world of college athletics there are endless topics
discussed daily and most pertain to money. An issue that falls under this category includes the heated
debate involving whether or not student athletes should receive money. Many people say student
athletes should receive compensation according to their specific needs because they spend so much
time earning their scholarship and have no time to work. On the other hand, the stronger argument is
student athletes should not be able to acquire additional funds in order to help aid them through
college. An athlete knows what he or she is involving themselves in before any money issue is even
brought up. Signing a letter of intent shows that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actions towards paying athletes are being taken and according to the TCU Daily Skiff, There s a
legislation being passed around in the Big 12 states to provide athletes with an extra stipend in
addition to their all expenses paid education. The idea is that these students are producing truckloads
of revenue for the university and should see some of the fruits of their labor. (Jennings, par. 2)
Because athletes aren t paid for producing such money, supporters feel some of the money made
should go towards helping with extra expenses. An average student athlete has to pay for phone bills,
transportation, entertainment, laundry, toiletries and other things. While the typical college student has
the opportunity to work, athletes don t. Some students in college receive academic full ride
scholarships, which are the same as athletic full rides, but they have time to earn extra money on the
side. If these students are receiving a full ride scholarship and have the opportunity to work then an
athlete should be paid a compensation for his or her efforts on the playing field. On the contrary, there
is a reason the NCAA has not passed a law saying athletes should be paid and numerous reasons
support this view. In fact according to NCAA rules, Section 2, Title V reads, It is a violation of the
NCAA rules for athletes to accept money or gifts while intending to remain eligible. (Way, par. 16)
There is a reason for this law and why it has not changed. Individuals

Coal Mining
Coal mining is not only a dangerous job, but also life threatening and deadly. Many accidents have
happened over the years and coal mining is less popular than it was when it first started. Even though
today fifty percent of our electricity is powered by coal. There are four different types of coalmines,
each very different. The first type are drift or slope mines, they are driven into valley walls near seams
of coal. The second types of mines are shaft mines, these types of mines use pumps to remove water.
Boreholes are drilled to relieve water pressure for safer mining. The third types of mines are surface
mines. Surface mines use draglines, which can remove up to 200ft of coal in a single pass. A dragline

The United States on average mines about 950 million tons of coal each year. The coal mine with the
most production is the Thunder Basin Coal CO. The Black Thunder mine is in Wyoming, which in
1994 produced 31,651,762 tons of coal. The average weekly pay for a coal miner is $903.76 and about
$39,067.60 per year. You can surface mine on both mountains and plains. Coal is a fossil fuel, because
it was formed from the remains of vegetation that grew as long as 400 million years ago. A fossil fuel
is a naturally occurring fuel of organic nature, such as coal, crude oil and natural gases. It is often
referred to as buried sunshine because the plants which formed coal captured energy from the sun
through photosynthesis to create the compounds that makes up plant tissue. Photosynthesis is the
process by which green plants convert light to energy by transforming carbon dioxide and water into
carbon hydrates. There are about 267 billion tons or, thirteen percent, of known American reserves in
the United States. The most important element in the plant material is carbon, which gives coal most
of its energy. Most of the coal today was formed about 300 million years ago, when steamy swamps
covered most of the earth. As plants and trees died, their remains sank to the bottom of the swampy
areas, accumulating layer upon layer and eventually forming a soggy dense material called peat. Peat

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Short Story
The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is integral to the overall narrative of the
Israelites descent into Egypt. It also tells us that anyone can make his or her dreams come true. His
progression from dream interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt is one of the most elaborate stories
in the Bible, the Book of Genesis. Joseph was born in a family of 12 boys and Joseph was his father s
favorite. Jacob wanted to show everyone how much he loved Joseph and decided to give him coat of
many colors. The coat of colors was a prestige gift in Canaan, because it was very expensive back
then. Joseph had a dream of 11 sheaves of corn that turned and bowed down to a golden sheaf of corn
another dream that was about the sun, moon, and sky with eleven stars bowing down before a bright
golden star. He knew that someday he was meant for more things to come that are powerful in his life.
This was God s way to show him that he will be great someday and be a ruler. With the combination
of knowing Joseph is Jacob s favorite son and Joseph s dreams of being one that he may be a ruler of
some kind, the 11 brothers become very jealous. One day, they decided that they wanted to kill him,
but before they get the chance, they came across a couple of Ishmaelite s on their way to Egypt. They
decided to sell Joseph as a slave. As Joseph is taken to Egypt, his brothers return home, told their
father that Joseph is dead; they brought back his coat stained with goat blood

Positive Attitude
INTRODUCTION A good attitude or positive attitude is the outward manifestation of a mind that
dwells primarily on positive matters. It is a mind set tipped in favour of creative activity rather than
boredom, joy over sadness, hope over futility. A positive attitude is that state of mind which can be
maintained only through conscious effort. When something jars one s mental focus into a negative
direction, those who are positive know that in order to bounce back adjustments must be made.
THE CHOSEN ISSUE Attitude is the way you communicate your mood to others. When you are

Grendel s Claw In Beowulf Essay
What did Grendel s claw serve as a symbol for ?
In Beowulf, Beowulf had ripped Grendel s arm off by hand ; Beowulf had the grip of thirty men when
all swords was useless against Grendel he ripped Grendel s arm off. The purpose of ripping Grendel s
arm off was because Grendel had attacked Heorot after King Hrothgar left Beowulf in charge. This
was the first time King Hrothgar let anyone in charge of Heorot Hall and Beowulf wanted to make
sure that he do his duty good. So as Beowulf and the Geats lie down to sleep waiting for Grendel s
attack everyone is expecting to die. Beowulf decided to fight Grendel with his bare hands since
Grendel does not use weapons to fight. Then comes Grendel with the attack and he raised his arm for
the attack but before he does anything Beowulf grabs his arm which made Grendel panic because he
never met anyone stronger than him, which led to them wrestling and destroying furniture and all.

Grendel s claw also has another meaning, to his mother his claw symbolizes sadness for her son that
she loved. It shows her how sickening that human beings are and she eventually retrieved her revenge
by killing innocent people. Grendel s mother saw the claw as a symbol of the loss of her son, she was
filled with grief and rage which caused her to go and retrieve her son s arm from Heorot. Then that is
when she had started to kill innocent people for revenge for the death of her son. Beowulf decides to
track down Grendel s mother and as he track her down he ends up in her underwater cave. Grendel
honestly at this point is not paying the claw any mind as he takes notice of Grendel s head which he
seems to find more impressive. Beowulf also ignores the treasure and chooses to take Grendel s huge

Change of Hearts-Small Group Project Essay
Change of Hearts Small Group Project My group consisted of four other members Christy, Daniel,
Brian, and Allison. When we were first introduced to the idea of a small group project we knew that
our presentation had to entertain the audience, and at the same time inform them. At that point, we
were functioning as individuals. Each of us tossed out a ton of ideas and some were shot down right
away. That took about 5minutes. Then Daniel mentioned that we can do a parody of the television
show Change of Hearts, and it stuck to us like glue. Gradually we began to feed into his revelation,
and started to add our personal touches. Each of us became elaborators. For about 15 minutes we took
the idea and expanded it to see where it could lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then again, Christy volunteered to do all those things. Group members asked her if she wanted any
help, and if she was sure that she didn t need the extra hand. In other words, to me it seemed like she
wanted to bear all the weight on her shoulders. Christy wasn t appointed or elected. No one challenged
her as she took on the position of leader in the group; therefore I assumed that no one had a problem
with it. The leadership style that I thought the group conformed to was the democratic style. Christy,
being the leader, approached us as a group about the views that were laid out on the table, and we
chose which idea that was consistent with our presentation style. Each member was allowed to express
his or her opinions freely, and I had enough trust in Christy to know which idea would or wouldn t
work. Another way of explaining the scale of leadership is this by comparing it to the rank of power in
the American Government. Christy is president, Daniel is Vice President, Allison is the Secretary of
State, and Brian is Secretary of Defense. I can t judge where I fit in there because that wouldn t be fair
to me group members if I rank my self higher than what I really was. When we got together for our
work sessions, as individuals we took on our roles of listeners, talkers, advisers, comedians,
daydreamers, and so on. Of course the majority of the time we spent was covering the material, but at
one point or another we would end up

  • 2. Important Concepts on Film Edition Section 1F 1. Define parallel editing, montage sequence, and master shot, using Nichols. Give an example of parallel editing that you notice in The Terminator. a. Parallel editing is method of editing scenes that shows two separate incidents happening at once. In The Terminator, this editing method was used when, after calling Sarah Conner pretending to be her mom, the terminator comes to the hotel that she and Kyle were staying at. During this scene, the scene where Sarah Conner and Kyle are talking and preparing to leave and the scene where the terminator is approaching the hotel crosscuts. Thus, the audience knows that the danger is approaching. b. Montage sequence is group of shots that marks the change in time or the unfolding of a process. (Nichols, 2010) c. Master shot is a shot that provides an overview of the scene showing all the characters movement and gestures. It is different from establishing shot in that establishing shot often puts a bigger action into play. In The Terminator, master shot is applied when Kyle, in the future world, enters the underground hut where human beings stay, master shot is used to show the movement and gestures of Kyle and all the other soldiers. 2. Doc s parents were Alice Jane McKey and Henry Burroughs Holiday. They offered a high quality education for Doc, although his main concern was the vast outdoors. He was more interested in horseback riding and fishing. In 1861, his father Henry Burroughs Holliday acknowledged a presidential engagement from Davis Jefferson in order to serve like a Quartermaster within 27th Ga. Infantry. After Manassas Battle, he was endorsed toward the level of chief and scuffles within Peninsula Campaign as fine as Malvern Hill Battle. From the time when the battle came nearer to habitat, the Holiday families reallocated to the southern side of Georgia, Loundes County where they established on a 2,440 acre ranch ten miles from Valdosta. One such species is the sea otter. The sea otter has an important role in the ecological preservation of pacific kelp forests. Sea Otters contribute towards the overall health and well being of the ecosystem they inhabit. The sea otter is an important predator in the nearshore marine ecosystem of the North Pacific Ocean. It is considered a keystone species in the ecosystem. They limit the prey populations of a variety of marine invertebrates that reside near the shore. Sea otters have large scale community effects disproportionate to their abundance. (Carswell and Long, 2). Their main prey consists of sea urchins and abalone. Sea urchins and abalone devour the kelp forests that run along the coasts of California. Sea otters contribute to kelp production by eating these invertebrates, thus where there are sea otters, kelp forests spread along the continental shelf. The California kelp forests have the greatest biodiversity of the temperate latitudes (Recarte) Kelp forests are the Ocean s rainforest (Recarte). Sea Otters are considered a sentinel species, which means their fitness reveals the health of the ecosystem. Contaminants in the ocean have a large effect on Sea Otters. Foggy weather made drop zone accuracy difficult for the 82nd, but they adapted and did their best to complete their mission. European settlers felt that the aboriginal people were savage, ignorant, and like children needed guidance, and needed to be civilized . Ultimately, they wanted to assimilate the Aboriginal people into Canadian and Christian ways of living life in Canada. The Canadian government came up with a policy called aggressive assimilation to be taught at industrial schools that would be run by the churches and government funded. They chose children to go to these schools because they are easier to manipulate and mold than the adults and felt that school was the best way to do so. The Roles Of Women Of Andalusia The Roles of Extraordinary Women of Andalusia Muslim women have the same rights as men and they have to fulfill and attain the same duties of worship such as prayer, zikr, give money to the poor, fasting, and make pilgrimage to Mecca the holy place. In the pre Islamic era, the Jahiliya era, women were not allowed to do anything, they had no rights. Women from the Bedioun tribes had no legal status whatsoever. The tribes were all male controlled. The heritage was passed on to the following generations through male lines. Women had no legal right in inheriting property. The head of the tribes limited the rights of women and took away their freedom. Prior to Islam, women were seen as property to be seized in tribal or ethnic battles and conflicts. Women had no possessions or succession rights. Their very essential role was to produce children, especially male offspring. Women had to cook, milk animals, and wash clothes; they also had to spun wool and wave fabric for the tribal tens. However, when Islam was found, it gave full rights and freedom to women. • 17. How Did Pope Leo XIII Impact The Society The Influence of Pope Leo XIII Having new opportunities in life is exciting, but when those opportunities become the obstacle to pursue happiness, life may lose its meaning. Something similar happened during the industrial revolution when society changed. However, the church was present to advocate for those whose happiness was taken away. Pope Leo XIII marked the history of society by writing the Rerum Novarum Encyclical during the industrial revolution. While the industrial revolution transformed the history of the world with the creation of new factories, it also changed society by originating two classes, the wealthy and the poor. Pope Leo XIII, saw that advantages and disadvantages of the industrial revolution and decided to convey the injustices happening at that time. Pope Leo XIII used the scripture and reason of natural law to argue about the common goods and the rights of the workers. Sharing benefits between members of the community is a principle that Pope Leo XIII transmitted in his encyclical. The church has always been on behalf of the poor. For that reason Pope Leo XIII used that Bible as a way to support his idea of the common good. He cited, There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned land or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. (Acts 4:34). This passage supports his idea of the common good through a spiritual interpretation with a moral lesson, which encourages the wealthy people to help or share their ... As evidentialism is a thesis about epistemic justification, it is a thesis about what it takes for one to believe justifiably, or reasonably, in the sense thought to be necessary for knowledge (Mittag). Now what does that mean in order for someone to believe in something, they must see the real proof have hardcore evidence. One famous argument about evidentialism is by William Kingdon Clifford, (born May 4, 1845, Exeter, Devon, England died March 3, 1879, Madeira Islands, Portugal) British philosopher and mathematician. Although he was most famous for his work as a mathematician, Clifford also wrote, The locus classicus for the ethics of belief debate is, unsurprisingly, the essay that christened it. The very things that regulate our day to day lives are often overlooked or never noticed. Johnson discovered this while vacationing in Mexico. While appreciating his time away from home, he came to realize that he had lost his actual sense of time. This created a feeling of uneasiness and the general feeling of being lost. Johnson wasn t lost in the sense of being in an unidentified place; he was lost due to his withdrawal from his cultural time structure. Nature is not defined by minutes, hours, weeks, or years. Time is a creation of people, yet in some cultures is regarded as being natural . Because systems are integral to culture, Johnson came to realize that time organization is much more than creating a distinction between specific moments within a given day. He realized that the concept of time was created to allow a cultural structure to regulate itself and to organize the people within it. It allows for efficiency and the ability of people to conduct themselves within their culture s expectations. These cultural expectations are what shape the social structures found within a society. The social structures are the things that design relationships between people and people, people and systems, or systems and systems. What I love about it is that he took the Bible stories and painted them onto the ceiling. Each paint has its own story, and that can speak louder than works at times. As it tells a story, it also tells us a little bit of what his beliefs are. The Bible starts by telling us about Adam and Eve. How Eve took the fruit from the snake and gave it to Adam and then they were ban from the Garden. You will notice a part of the ceiling has that story painted. Melville created something new in Bartleby the scrivener; as a well known story the narrator that tells the story is unreliable because he sounds bias to one of the character in the story. For example from the book first clue he gives us comes in the first sentence I am a rather elderly man .
