Different Interpretations Of The Scarlet Letter
Different Interpretations of The Scarlet Letter
Symbolism is everywhere around us in our daily lives, even if you don t notice it right away. Traffic
signs, company names, and even colors can all be examples of symbolism. Dr. Stephanie Carrez
article, Symbol and Interpretation, focuses on and interprets the different types of symbolism in
Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel, The Scarlet Letter. Focusing mainly on the characters Hester and Pearl,
Carrez article brings symbolism to a new light as she interprets her thoughts. Carrez article shows that
symbolism, allegories, and the different possibilities for interpretation play a vital role in analyzing the
novel s worth by using Pearl and Hester as the main examples for the used literary ... Show more

Towards her mother, too, Pearl s errand as a messenger of anguish was all fulfilled, (Hawthorne). I
believe that the symbolism in this quote is exceptional since it is talking about the spell that Pearl has
broken after kissing her father. When Pearl was born, she was known as the physical embodiment of
Hester Prynne and Mr. Dimmesdale s sin. She didn t show much emotion and didn t appreciate her
father s presence, or didn t know how to, until he was gone. When Pearl kisses Dimmesdale, it is
almost as if she has broken a spell and can now be her own person. Before, she was almost trapped .
She didn t show her own emotions and didn t appreciate what a child normally might. I think when
Pearl kissed Dimmesdale she realized what she had been missing and started to finally realize that she
was about to lose a very important person in her life. Above all, Pearl is shown as a symbol in this
novel by representing that she is a physical example of sin.
Carrez also uses examples of allegory in her article to explain the importance of the novel. Allegory is
a more complex version of symbolism; however, allegory represents one thought, whereas symbolism
is a wide spectrum of objects having different meanings than what they physically mean. Allegory is a
story using symbolism, where symbolism is the

Dyslexia Research Papers
Dyslexia is a very common learning disability that affects many children and adults in their life time.
Dyslexia is mostly common in young children when they first start school and if they are having
trouble reading. Having dyslexia can be very hard because they struggle with reading and writing in
school or at home. Dyslexia is a problem that affects the brain, but it does not mean that people with
dyslexia are not smart ( Dyslexia 1). Dyslexia is a lifelong problem that cannot be outgrown but it can

Many people think that dyslexia is causes by the school or by bad teaching (Marshall 1). Dyslexia is
actually caused by certain genes that can be inherited and these genes control how the brain develops
and processes words and sounds ( Disease and Conditions of Dyslexia 1). Dyslexia is caused to be a
visual disorder and it can also be caused by how people are able to hear sounds by how it goes through
their brain (Jost 1079). There are many different things that can cause dyslexia. The most common
way that dyslexia is cause is passed from parent to child (Lapkin 1). According to the Mayo

caused by inherited traits that affect how your brain works ( Disease and Conditions of Dyslexia 1).
Since dyslexia is a very common, if a parent has dyslexia in a person s family then it is most likely
that their child could have dyslexia too because dyslexia is passes in genes (Shaywitz). If one of those

Gaited Horses Essay
On average, 24 horses die per week on racetracks in the U.S. (Cohen). This is due to the horrible
mistreatment and horrendous training methods used on too young horses. However, the racetrack is
not the only place where horses are abused. Horse shows, show rings, large business stables, smaller
private barns; wherever a horse can be found, there is potential for some sort of animal abuse. There is
not one certain breed or type of horse that is most commonly abused, every horse around the world
can be subject to mistreatment. Unfortunately, there are not many laws that protect these horses, and
some people merely turn their heads away. That is why there should be more laws against the abusive
techniques applied by many equestrians in the equine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gaited horses, like the Tennessee walking horse, for example, are a special type of horse. Tennessee
walking horses naturally have a higher step. That high gait decreases bouncing and makes a smooth
ride for the rider. In walking horse shows, the horse with a highest gate wins the competition. This
gate is known as the Big Lick. To produce an even higher gait, many trainers have used chains or
special horse shoes that cause more pressure on the hooves of a horse. This practice is known as
soring, when people cause pain to the lower legs and hooves of a horse to speed up the training for a
high (Gang). Thoroughbreds are used for one of the most famous equine sports ever; horse racing.
However, these fast horses have a secret that make them go even faster. Performance enhancing drugs
are used by veterinarians, trainers, and owners. This increases the horses speed, but the drugs are used
way too often, and therefore damage the horses bones (Cohen). Whips are also a tool of
encouragement in the racing industry. That is also hard to separate into black and white. One horse
may shy away in fear from the whip, while

Social Norms In Madame Flaubert s Madame Bovary
In Madame Bovary, flowers embody the separation of Emma s desires from her reality as well as her
defiance against Victorian norms. Throughout the novel, Emma faces the contrast of her romantic
fantasies versus the boring, dissatisfying realities of her life with Charles. Emma also experiences
conflict between Victorian societal norms and her behaviors that violate those norms. Flaubert s use of
flowers distinguishes Emma s desires from her reality and her behavior from the set societal standard.
The association of flowers with the church reflects Emma s romanticized vision of religion that moves
away from piety. Rather than worshiping God and the messages of Christianity, she finds her faith
centered around the metaphorical symbols and ceremonies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Emma s habit of overspending on material objects stems from her desire to create an illusion of
wealth. When expecting Rodolphe, Emma creates this illusion of wealth by, [filling] the two large blue
glass vases with roses, and prepares, like a courtesan expecting a prince (132). Emma not only desires
to have a relationship with Rodolphe, but she wants to impress him with an illusion of her perfect life.
Prior to the Opera in Part 2, Emma purchases a bouquet in order to create a rich persona (156). Not
only does the Opera relay Emma s romantic desires for her lovers, it gives her a taste of the high class
lifestyle. This fake wealth satisfies Emma for a short period of time and distracts her from the life she
actually lives, similar to her other romantic ploys and her affairs. Emma constantly romanticizes a life

Dr Strangelove Themes
The Cold War was a period from 1947 to 1991 that adhered erratic tension and constant threat of
nuclear conflict between the two remaining superpowers that emerged from WWII, the U.S. and the
Soviet Union. The 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the
Bomb, directed by Stanley Kubrick, depicts the overlying themes of the Cold War in a comedic
fashion. This film s full embodiment of the Cold War is seen through its representation of the time
period, and the sheer competitiveness between the United States and Russia. Additionally, due to
many of Kubrick s movie decisions, the film has helped society acknowledge and understand the pure
absurdity that the topic of nuclear destruction holds. In Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

General alone goes rogue and sends the missiles toward Russia. This puts the U.S. President in an
immensely tight scenario.
The film delves into some of the difficult options leaders have to choose from in cases involving
nuclear weapons. Nuclear conflicts are extraordinarily complex, with many potential unpredictable
outcomes. After General Ripper directs his plane to bomb the enemy, he describes his thought process
to one of his officers, ...when [the president s advisors] realize there is no possibility in recalling the
wing there will be only one course of action: open, total commitment . Here, a total commitment
consists of the U.S. supporting General Ripper s plan by utilizing their full arsenal of nuclear weapons
to attack Russia. General Buck Turgidson, one of the President s top advisors, echoes this exact idea in
the war room and proposes to the U.S. President a full commitment. This was a possible solution that
could have neutralized all of Russia in one wave of nuclear missiles; however, this strategy is frowned
upon and dismissed by the President as it would reflect poorly on the U.S. diplomatic reputation in the
long run.
An aspect of the Cold War that Kubrick focuses on is the blatant lack of trust between the conflicting
nations. In a scene where a Russian Ambassador is being brought into the war room by the U.S.
President to help determine a mutual solution,

English Influence On American Culture
Since the very first Europeans settled in America and came across the natives that had lived there for
thousands of years before, cultures have come together. While some moments in history show the
negative side to cultures meeting, there have also been good times. As time has passed, growing up in
such a diverse culture has been positive. With food, religion, and languages, the blend of cultures has
brought so many people together. Perhaps the most obvious in the blending of cultures can be found in
the food Americans consume. It is not difficult at all to think of typical American dishes. These foods
include, hamburgers, hot dogs, apple pie, and the list goes on. Because of cultures blending, American
cuisine has become more diverse. Dishes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Getting Rid Of Zoos Essay
Getting Rid of Zoos
Why should we get rid of zoos? Many people enjoy going to zoos. However, they don t think about
animals who live in zoos. Zoos collect different animals in one environment, but not all animals live in
this environment. No place can keep different animals in their environment in small place because
nobody can change the weather. We should get rid of zoos for two reasons.
Frist, there is no place like home, and a zoo is not home for an animal. There are some animals live in
wild, such as elephants and lions. Zoos take animals out of wild into place which is not same as their
environment. In the wild, chimpanzees don t venture beyond 5 meters from their mothers until they
reach 3 years of age. In captivity, new borns are often torn away from their mothers to be sold or
exploited for photo ops. Most animals like elephants suffer from the small space in zoos, so they
cannot walk as much as in their homes. According to Wells (2016) Like so many of her captive peers,

Coronary Artery Disease Case Study Essay
I have chosen to do case study #1 about Coronary Artery Disease. In this case study, Eric is a 47 year
old male who has just been diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease. He is a construction worker and
spends a great deal of time away from his wife and three children. Eric smokes approximately 1 1⁄2
packs of cigarettes a day and enjoys drinking a 6 pack after a long day at work. In Eric s case,
smoking clearly causes CAD and he smokes quite a bit. Also, high blood pressure can cause CAD and
if he is stressed from all of his hard work, it could contribute to the disease as well (Beaumont, n.d.)
Coronary artery disease is when plaque builds up in the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries supply
blood to the heart. Plaque buildup in the arteries is called atherosclerosis. The plaque makes the
arteries smaller and makes it harder for the arteries to supply oxygen to the heart. This atherosclerosis
can cause heart attacks and angina (chest pain). Coronary artery disease can also cause arrhythmias, or
irregular heart rhythm (Loeffler Hart, 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theme Of Alienation In Brave New World
Brave New World is a novel written by Aldous Huxley which takes place in 2540 AD London and
depicts a utopian future, where humans are bred genetically and influenced from birth to serve.
Throughout the novel Huxley uses exile and alienation to express his feelings towards life in the so
called Brave New World . The Palestinian American literary theorist Edward Said has described exile
as strangely compelling to think about but terrible to experience. It is the unhealable rift forced
between a human being and a native place, between self and its true home: its essential sadness can
never be surmounted. Said has also said that exile can become a potent, even enriching experience .
One of the characters who experiences such exile is John the Savage. John is in a tough place
throughout the book. When he is with the savages he is alienated due to his complexion and the fact
that his mother, Linda, is not liked due to her promiscuous acts with the men in the tribe. But when
John is brought back to society he is torn between conforming to society and staying true to his
beliefs. John is the only character who has a real birth mother and thus represents something unique
although frowned upon in society and therefore being different he is unable to fit into the savage
society. This becomes evident when he is denied the rites of passage and is unable to give his life
through ceremonies to the society. On page 136 John is ripped out of the ranks of the other boys and is

Essay On The Eucharist
When one thinks of the Eucharist, they might think that it is just Christ s Body and Blood, and after
we receive it, we can go along doing our own thing. That is false. You see, the Eucharist is not just
something you receive on Sunday, and forget about; it is more than that. We are called to perform
services in the world and in our communities because of the Eucharist. This paper is about what we
are called to do after we receive the Eucharist, and what we as Catholics should be doing already. The
Eucharist enables us to come together as a Church every Sunday, and sometimes more often than that.
It also unites us with the angels in heaven and the deceased, which enables all of God s people to
participate in the celebration of Jesus s sacrifice. As Catholics, we never really worship alone. At the
Eucharistic Liturgy, we gather with the young and old, the rich and poor, as well as millions around
the world and the saints in heaven, to celebrate Christ s sacrifice (Body of Christ, Broken for the
World). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One soon begins to realize that all people are children of God and need to be treated equally with
dignity and respect, no matter what their race, social status, etc. Let me remind you: this is because of
the Eucharist. The Eucharist educates us to this love in a deeper way; it shows us, in fact, what value
each person, our brother or sister, has in God s eyes, if Christ offers Himself equally to each one,
under the species of bread and wine. If our Eucharistic worship is authentic, it must make us grow in
awareness of the dignity of each person. The awareness of that dignity becomes the deepest motive of
our relationship with our neighbor (Dominicae Cenae,

3.0 Question 2
3.1 Intangibility
Intangibility means the incapacity to assess the value gained from using an intangible service where it
can t be seen, touched, tasted, smelled or stored (Palmer, 2000). In intangibility there are two different
aspects that could be looked into which is the search quality and experience. The search quality is
when they observe the product without experiencing it at first hand. In reality they would know what
they would want to rent like for example kayaks, canoes or a motorboat by only looking at it but have
not experienced it yet. The experience is when the customer has rented the tangible product and has
had an experience using it while being able to assess whether it is satisfactory or not. Once the service
rented is satisfactory, the customers would tend to return to the same place as they would have
confidence on the service obtained. Services are harder to market to potential customers compared to
goods as there is no physical evidence to showcase. This is where the advertisements, brochures and
customers word of mouth play a big role. The advertisements and brochures has to be crystal clear and
direct to capture the attention of potential customers, giving them an idea of the services that might be
purchased, which in this case is rental of various boats.

Job Cost Of Job Costing
Introduction
Accounting to determine which items or jobs are generating the most net income can be extremely
important to financial managers in today s economy. Managers must determine which products are
making performing the best so that they can capitalize on profits. This also helps to know when it
should cut its losses. There are three very useful methods of identifying costs associated to a particular
item which are job order costing, activity based costing (ABC), process costing. Job order costing
isolates costs to a particular job. ABC compares multiple items which are manufactured. Process
costing assesses items which are massed produced and provides analysis to the cost through the
various stages from beginning to completion. This essay will explain each of these methods and then
provide examples for each of them.
Job Order Costing
Job costing is a method of calculating the amount of dollars that it will take to perform a job in its
entirety for the entity performing the work. Job costing is a valuable tool for managers of financial
information in a company because it is an efficient way of learning which jobs have made money and
which jobs have lost money. This is because the job costing method can trace or link how much
resource such as labor, material, and overhead are spent to complete the job. Steven Bragg states that
Job costing is the most common method for marshaling cost accounting information into a data
structure containing usable information . He then

How Does Social Security Help To Underdeveloped Poor...
Picture years down the road, you are trying to get ahead in life, but debt continues to drag you down.
A family to provide for and someone is constantly breathing down your neck to pay your debts. Can
you imagine the sudden relief, of your debt being paid, every hard earned penny being your own, and
finally your family having enough food on the table.
Now lets apply this to underdeveloped poor countries. As the country struggles to get ahead,
international lenders drown them in their overwhelming debt, preventing them from every rising to the
surface.
Thus my first contention is Mercy. Mercy is having compassion or forgiveness shown toward
someone whom it is within one s power to punish or harm. As God has mercy on us, we should have
mercy on others. God commands us to be perfect, holy, and righteous, but these traits are unattainable
and God sovereignly understands, daily pouring His mercy out on us. By the same token, indebted
poor countries cannot live up to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

government provides money to people who are unable to work because they are old, disabled, or

American, you cannot be against removing the debt of highly indebted countries unless you also
condemn social security. Social security is there to soften the blow of individuals with health
problems, unemployment, and old age. If social security wasn t there, what would these individuals
do? Go into debt, for they simply cannot work. Thus international lenders parallel social security, the

The Bad Side Of Prostitution
Even though prostitution was considered to be a bad and terrible thing to the other women and men in
the higher class, it was also a fun thing for women because they got to explore and increase their
sexual experience and pleasure by sleeping with different men and got to explore their sexual desires.
Unlike the women who were priestess, wives, and servants/slaves who could only sleep with their
husbands and no one else. So, that s one benefit of being a prostitute, being able to explore your
sexual desires and don t have to worry about any of the consequences that a housewife had to worry
about but just like everything else there is also a bad side to it. The bad side about prostitution is that
you are more likely to catch diseases, end up being rape or worse and thanks to patriarchy system back
then you would not get justice for it because sex is your profession and you re paid to sleep with
different men; which means that no one in a jury or court system would believe you about being raped
because of your job. Now in the modern day of prostitution it pretty much the same but different
because in certain states and countries prostitution is illegal and there are few places that are
authorized to serve as a brothel or whorehouse. In modern day prostitution people don t see too many
brothels or whorehouses because it is illegal to run a business like that in U.S. while in many other
foreign countries mainly Europe, it is legal for business such as brothel and whorehouses

Baking Soda Hypothesis
When baking soda and vinegar mixes, a chemical change occurs. So how much baking soda, added to
10mL of compound vinegar( CH3CooH), will cause a film canister to shoot the furthest? I thought the
answer to this question was 15mL of baking soda will shoot the lid of the film canister the furthest
because there will be a longer reaction with more baking soda which will propel it far. This change
happens because of they both have reactivity that causes the chemical change and shoots off the lid.
The independent variable is the amount of baking soda and the dependent variable is how far the lid
shoots. The amount of compound baking soda( NaHCO3) varied during several tests to see how far
the lid would shoot from the end of the table to the back wall. Evidence that this reaction has taken
place is the change in odor, color, and the appearance of gas or bubbles.
Materials:
Vinegar
Baking soda
Film canister
Paper towels
Measuring tools
Goggles
Methods:
1. Pour out 10mL of vinegar into the film canister, it should fill up about one fourth of the canister.
2. Put your of baking soda and pour it out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the reason for this is because we put less paper towel in the canister which allowed more gas to
build up, causing a more forceful and farther shot. This would make sense because the gas made by

Space Junk Epidemic
Space Junk Today, speeding past our Earth ten times faster than a bullet (tweentribune), are millions of
pieces of space junk ranging in size from flecks of paint to entire Satellites (NASA). To most people
this does not sound like much of a problem, but even a fleck of paint moving 17,500 miles per hour or
more can cause significant damage to spacecraft and space walkers alike. As more collisions take
place and as new items enter the atmosphere the statistical probability of a collision will increase.
Eventually, the probability of a collision will become so high that it will be unsafe to enter space from
Earth (NASA). Now, as discussion of colonizing Mars intensifies, space junk has a new way of
spreading and clogging up more of the universe. When humans colonize Mars they will ... Show more

As of December 2015 there were 1071 operational satellites around the Earth and over 21.000 objects
larger than 10cm hurtling around the planet (Universetoday). In 2013 there were 81 space launches
and in 2014 that number increased to 92 space launches. 2014 had the highest number of space
launches in a year in more than two decades (spaceflightnow). If those on Mars could cut back on the
number of Satellites they put up they would have a significantly lower statistical probability of
collisions. This would make long term space use possible.
Another important anti space junk component is banishing pieces of rockets that fall off, like solid
rocket boosters on the Space Shuttle (Space.com). These large chunks of debris would cause extreme
amounts of damage. If a fleck of paint can harm satellites and space suits then a 177 foot long, 12 foot
diameter, 1.6 million pound Solid Rocket Booster would be cataclysmic. If various space
organizations can reduce the number of rocket stages they use, they can dramatically reduce the
amount of large space junk orbiting the Red

Fingerprint Recognition is One of the Oldest and Most...
Fingerprint recognition is one of the oldest and most Researched fields of biometrics. Biometrics is
the automated use of physiological or behavioral characteristics to determine or verify identity data
derived from direct measurement of a part of the human body. In areas of business, the identities of
personnel and employees needs to be verified .This is required for attendance .Thus there is restriction
on the access to computers for unauthorized users since there are no shared or compromised
passwords between the employees. Hundred of years back, fingerprints were used in the forensics and
crime branch investigations with the help of automatic fingerprint identification systems. A fingerprint
is a distinctive or identifying mark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This kind of minutiae based fingerprint recognition systems consists of two steps, i.e., minutiae
extraction and minutiae matching. In the minutiae matching process, the minutiae feature of a given
fingerprint is compared with the minutiae template, and the matched minutiae will be found out. If the
matching score exceeds a predefined threshold, the two fingerprints can be regarded as belonging to a
same finger.Such algorithms are the common ways to utilize the minutiae template for fingerprint
recognition. In various works, the authors have often showed that these kinds of methods cannot
provide enough distinguishing abilities for large scale fingerprint identification tasks hence the need
for edge detection arises. In our study we have tried to integrate the edge detection technique with this
minutia based method and tried to improve on the verification results of these algorithms. Edge
Detection is used to curtail the patterns found in a fingerprint image so that weget only the most
important information. Therefore the edge detected from its original image contains major information
which requires less amount of memory to store. Whenever there isspectacular and evident change of
pixels in the binaryimage for example, from grey to white, we say an edge is present. Edge detection
is a non trivial task because it is often very difficult to establish if the change in intensity between the
adjacent pixels is sufficient enough to be considered as an edge or not, hence

Mongol Empire Dbq
Mongolian Empire pos. or neg.
Was the mongol empire a positive or negative impact on the history of Asia? I would say that the
mongol empire was positive, because they did a lot of good for asia like safety for those that are
peaceful and war with those that are not. My first quote is from document #6 The Mongols conquered
nearly all of Asia and achieved what all Inner Asian steppe empires dreamed of . I copied this quote
because this one talked about how the mongols conquered a lot of asia and that means they were all
working together to survive. My second quote is from document 7 Juzani wrote that no one except the

This document is positive because Genghis Khan controlled 4,860,000 square miles and Alexander the
Great conquered 2,180,000 square miles. This shows that Genghis Khan and his empire was very
powerful. When you rule a very large empire it can be hard to control so the people that rebelled
against Genghis Khan were killed.
Document #2 talks about the people in charge. This document is positive because Genghis Khan had a
very large empire and if someone ran away the person in charge of them would be punished, so
Genghis Khan found a way to maintain a good order for example he would be in charge of maybe ten
people and those ten would be in charge of maybe another ten and so on.
Document #6 talks about people adapting to the Mongol Empire and the benefits of the silk industry.
The Mongols did a lot for china for example their silk, the people of china liked silk but the problem
was that the deliverers kept getting murdered and the silk stolen so the mongols lent a hand and
created the Silk Road where people could walk without any thought about thieves or murderers
coming for what they have because they feared Genghis Khan. Genghis Khan killed the people that
stole or murdered on the silk road and their families, in other words if you saw something someone
dropped nobody touched it said Document

AMPLE: An adaptive traffic engineering system based on virtual routing topologies
Manikanthreddy Charabuddi project report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the

Fall 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Mais W Nijim
Texas A M University Kingsville EECSDept
MSC192, Kingsville, Texas 78363
Contemporary network management systems mainly deal with avoiding network congestion and
frequent service disruptions by effectively handling the traffic dynamics. IP base environments still
don t have efficient system to utilize all the resources and efficient solution for dynamic traffic and
network conditions. So in this article we introduce a efficient traffic engineering and managing
mechanism called AMPLE. This system mainly consists of two components: Link Weight
Optimization (OLWO) and Adaptive Traffic Control (ATC). Link Weight Optimization (OLWO)
component generates maximum IGP path diversity using physical network topology as a input.
OLWO setting of link weights are optimized for maximum path diversity. The next component ATC
comes into the picture based on these diverse paths. ATC can efficiently manage the splitting ratios
across individual routing topologies. ATC does this by monitoring the network dynamics in a short
interval of time. We evaluated the proposed system using real network topologies and found that the
system can effectively handle the unprepared traffic dynamics and it can be used to achieve better

Research on Density Essay
Density: Using Experimental Techniques to Solve an Inquiry based problem
ABSTRACT
The topic of this experiment is Density. The objective is to find two ways in which the density of a
given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two ways is more accurate and hence
better to use in such a case. The two methods used in this experiment are finding the dimensions of the
object and water displacement. These are two ways of finding the volume of an object, and they were
chosen since the density of an object may be found using its mass and its volume. The experiment
yielded two different density values, however when error analysis was conducted, the water
displacement method was proven to be more accurate.

Repeat measuring the mass of the object three (3) more times; ensuring that the balance is re zeroed
after each measurement. Tabulate data gathered. Procedure 2: Find the mass of the object given, as
done in procedure 1. Ensure that the object is dry when it is being placed on the balance, as this will
yield an inaccurate reading. Get a clean 1000milliter beaker. Fill the beaker to approximately half its
capacity. Note the exact volume of water placed into the beaker. When reading the volume of the
water, ensure that this is done at eye level, and that it is read at the bottom of the meniscus. After
noting the initial volume of water, place the object carefully into the water. DO NOT SPLASH. Note
the final volume of water in the beaker. Tabulate data gathered.

Relationship between Internet Addiction (Screen Addiction) and eyesight
Ever since Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf invented the Internet, it was hard to use and it was
considered a privilege. But after Tim Berners Lee invented World Wide Web and spread out, It catches
on with the trend. In these days, most of the people are using the Internet for web surfing, social
media, etc. Especially, most teenagers have their own smartphone through that they are keeping in
touch with the internet. It is transformed into Internet addiction. Despite they are addicted to the
internet, They can t avulse smartphone from them. Also, when they are using their smartphone before
they sleep, they eyesight become worse and worse. Internet addiction is the main reason to impair
people s vision. First of all, when people use their phone before they sleep, they turn off the light and
they straightly face their smartphone and smartphone emit Blue light. Second, Computer Vision
Syndrome makes people s eyes worse, and they cannot put down their phone even though people
know that is dangerous.
Blue Light is emitted by all electronic devices and people are facing blue light while they are using
their electronic devices such as a computer, smartphone, etc. Blue light increases the risk of macular
degeneration and also cause the eye cancer. The term of macular stand for a small area at the center of
the retina. Most of the visual cells are gathered here, and

Homeless Veterans Community Analysis
The homeless veterans population has been a problem over the decades, but over the past few years
the population of homeless veterans has increased once again. This is a concerning problem that needs
to be attended to and human services is one of the ways to seek help. Veterans from previous wars had
experience when they came back home lack of support that lead them to become homeless. Over the
years this has gotten better by the government starting programs to help transition back to civilian
status (Murphy Tobin, 2014). Recently this has change due to the veteran population has increased for
the last few years and there is not enough resources to provide the care that is needed. This was
noticed and now the Veteran Affairs have put in

White Tailed Deer Suicides Analysis
When you think of a mammal who regularly kills humans, the white tailed deer does not come to
mind. Unfortunately, the white tailed deer often jumps in front of vehicles, causing more than one
million collisions resulting in over two hundred deaths a year. In James Gorman s article, he
persuaded me that by bringing the eastern cougar back to its original home, the number of deaths
would significantly reduce. He explains both the benefits and downsides of cougars returning to their
natural habitat.
As a new driver, I am constantly worried of hitting other objects such as cars, mailboxes, and animals.
When deer jump out from the side of the road, I worry that they may cause deadly accidents. Gorman
s article interested me because if there is

Odds To Identify Obstacles
Multiply 2,345 by 3.40089 and quickly pop out an answer. Odds are you can t do it. Now with a pad
of paper and pencil write it down and figure it out. Odds are now you can come up with an answer.
Why? Because you know the formula! If you know the formula then it really doesn t matter what the
goal is.
You absolutely must have goals if you want to be successful. There is a saying, show me a stock clerk
with a goal and ill show you a stock clerk who will make history. Show me a person without a goal
and I ll show you a stock clerk. You can choose to set goals and realize your potential or you can
choose not to set them and understand that the consequences are not going to be good down the road. I
bet you know a bunch of people who are going to do or are meaning to do a whole bunch of things.
Goals do not care who has them.
The world famous zig Ziglar has a formula for success that I will base this column off of.

Presidential Debates
Television and the purpose of it has changed in a negative way throughout the years. At the beginning,
we took advantage of being able to be a part of the presidential elections and acquire the facts about
what truly mattered during the debates. Lately we ve started to look at what the screen is showing us
rather than concentrating on what it was actually telling us. We as people have begun to want to
appoint our official leaders based on who looks better and television has helped feed this desire for the
worst. Technology has been changing progressively from the start. Everything about it ranging from
the speed, the design, the size has been replaced with a modernized and immaculate version.
Computers, phones, and televisions all started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first way they make this possible is to groom and primp their image. Theodore White thought that
Kennedy benefited because his image on television was crisp ; Nixon s light colored suit, wrong
makeup, bad posture was fuzzed (Source C). He is saying that Kennedy acknowledged the fact that his
appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at him and he made sure that he was up to
par with his looks. Another way they make their appearance look better in comparison is to draw
attention away from themselves and attack their opponent s character. This technique is referred to as
ad hominem and it is one of the most common ones used in this year s presidential debates. A prime
example of this is when Donald Trump once said, Unstable Hillary Clinton, lacks the judgment,
temperament and moral character to lead this country and I believe that so strongly, he then later
continued with, She s really pretty close to unhinged, and you ve seen, you ve seen it a couple times.
The people in the background know it, the people who know her know it and she s like an unbalanced
person. In this claim he has completely left the topic of what truly matters and has started to stray
away from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of this is a battle of image over image.
Louis Menand wrote, Our national politics has become a competition for images or between images,
rather than between ideals (Source C). This statement just backs up the idea that we ve started to focus
on looks rather than

Why We Buy By Paco Underhill
Consumers have certain behavioral tendencies when faced in certain situations. In Why We Buy, the
author Paco Underhill details certain behavioral characteristics people tend to have in different types
of retail stores. Many consumers don t think about what their actions mean when checking out or
buying products. But to Mr. Underhill, the gender of the person, the people they re with, the amount of
times the person touches an object, the amount of time spent on checking a particular product, the time
they came in, and the time they leave, all factor into a database to determine different behavioral trend
consumers have. It is these trends that they find in order to correct a problem a store or retailer didn t
know they have to increase sales and create a better flow in the store environment. Lots of what
happens in a store or retailer can be better analyzed when there is a tape recording as opposed to
observing in person. But observing in person allows the tracker to make minute observations and
small nuances like the direction the eyes are looking and the item they are checking out that can t be
recorded by cameras. There s also something else that is hugely important, but mostly overlooked,
which is what customers fail to notice. It could be because a certain product outshines another product
and outperforms the other product in sales. Before I start observing people in Barnes Noble, I will
have to take many factors into consideration.

Cultural Dimensions And Its Impact On The Corporate World
Cultural differences and dimensions are very important when it comes to the corporate world. There
have been numerous studies done on individual differences that are seeking out to identify the reasons
why people behave in which the way they do. In the United States, it is important to understand each
dimension and which cultural dimension we focus on most. In this paper, the five cultural dimensions
and how they are implemented in the corporate world will be discussed. Culture is defined as, The
learned, shared way of doing things in a particular society (Uhl Bien, Schermerhorn, Osborne, 2014,
p.44). As referred by Geert Hofstede, culture is the, software of the mind . Hofstede is referring to our
minds as, hardware since it is universal to all humans. However, the, software of culture varies from
each one with many differences. We were born into a society that teaches you culture rather than being
born into it. Since we learn from a very young age about culture this helps up to distinguish
boundaries between different groups of people. In each culture there are a set of values and these are
important when dealing with organizational behavior. Uhl Bien, Schermerhorn, Osborne (2014) state
that the way in which people think about work, risk, wealth, achievement, and gain may influence
their approach to work and relationships (p.44). There is a term known as cultural quotient which
describes how someone is able to work effectively across cultures

My Rifle Research Paper
I have got very many gifts and a bunch of unique, special gifts. This unreal item was a .308 caliber
rifle. It was such an outrage of excitement as my parents were giving it to me. Three aspects of the gun
stood out to me it had a great design to it, the size of the caliber, and the size of the gun itself. The
design was an option of my choice, I had always wanted a rifle like this one. My rifle, in my opinion,
has one of the most distinctive designs for a rifle. Starting at the stock of the gun, it was sleek, natural
camouflage , synthetic stock. As you go up the gun, you arrive at the metal parts, and this matte finish
of black really matched the stock, which gave it my attention as I focused on it at first glance. The
barrel, at the peak of the gun adjacent to the opening system, was thick, so if I was to shoot multiple
times in a row the barrel wouldn t warp after constant heating through the violent explosion of the
cartridge as the bullets races through the end of the barrel. On the other hand, the bullet measurements
were just as important. At the time I was given the gun, I wasn t very old or strong. If I was too have
received this rifle in any caliber bigger than .308 I wouldn t have been able to shoot it. On the other
side, the deer I was to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the chance to shoot it till recently. As for what came with moderately strong, I wasn t very tall,

The size of the gun was probably the most important thing to me because I hadn t ever had a gun
before this one that would fit me as perfectly as the one I have described here does. Though it couldn t
be the rifle it is if its vital aspects weren t all put

  • 2. Different Interpretations Of The Scarlet Letter Different Interpretations of The Scarlet Letter Symbolism is everywhere around us in our daily lives, even if you don t notice it right away. Traffic signs, company names, and even colors can all be examples of symbolism. Dr. Stephanie Carrez article, Symbol and Interpretation, focuses on and interprets the different types of symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel, The Scarlet Letter. Focusing mainly on the characters Hester and Pearl, Carrez article brings symbolism to a new light as she interprets her thoughts. Carrez article shows that symbolism, allegories, and the different possibilities for interpretation play a vital role in analyzing the novel s worth by using Pearl and Hester as the main examples for the used literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Towards her mother, too, Pearl s errand as a messenger of anguish was all fulfilled, (Hawthorne). I believe that the symbolism in this quote is exceptional since it is talking about the spell that Pearl has broken after kissing her father. When Pearl was born, she was known as the physical embodiment of Hester Prynne and Mr. Dimmesdale s sin. She didn t show much emotion and didn t appreciate her father s presence, or didn t know how to, until he was gone. When Pearl kisses Dimmesdale, it is almost as if she has broken a spell and can now be her own person. Before, she was almost trapped . She didn t show her own emotions and didn t appreciate what a child normally might. I think when Pearl kissed Dimmesdale she realized what she had been missing and started to finally realize that she was about to lose a very important person in her life. Above all, Pearl is shown as a symbol in this novel by representing that she is a physical example of sin. Carrez also uses examples of allegory in her article to explain the importance of the novel. Allegory is a more complex version of symbolism; however, allegory represents one thought, whereas symbolism is a wide spectrum of objects having different meanings than what they physically mean. Allegory is a story using symbolism, where symbolism is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dyslexia is mostly common in young children when they first start school and if they are having trouble reading. Having dyslexia can be very hard because they struggle with reading and writing in school or at home. Dyslexia is a problem that affects the brain, but it does not mean that people with dyslexia are not smart ( Dyslexia 1). Dyslexia is a lifelong problem that cannot be outgrown but it can get better by the right teaching (Marshall 1). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people think that dyslexia is causes by the school or by bad teaching (Marshall 1). Dyslexia is actually caused by certain genes that can be inherited and these genes control how the brain develops and processes words and sounds ( Disease and Conditions of Dyslexia 1). Dyslexia is caused to be a visual disorder and it can also be caused by how people are able to hear sounds by how it goes through their brain (Jost 1079). There are many different things that can cause dyslexia. The most common way that dyslexia is cause is passed from parent to child (Lapkin 1). According to the Mayo Foundation of Medical Education and Research There s no cure for dyslexia. It s a lifelong condition caused by inherited traits that affect how your brain works ( Disease and Conditions of Dyslexia 1). Since dyslexia is a very common, if a parent has dyslexia in a person s family then it is most likely that their child could have dyslexia too because dyslexia is passes in genes (Shaywitz). • 4. Gaited Horses Essay On average, 24 horses die per week on racetracks in the U.S. (Cohen). This is due to the horrible mistreatment and horrendous training methods used on too young horses. However, the racetrack is not the only place where horses are abused. Horse shows, show rings, large business stables, smaller private barns; wherever a horse can be found, there is potential for some sort of animal abuse. There is not one certain breed or type of horse that is most commonly abused, every horse around the world can be subject to mistreatment. Unfortunately, there are not many laws that protect these horses, and some people merely turn their heads away. That is why there should be more laws against the abusive techniques applied by many equestrians in the equine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gaited horses, like the Tennessee walking horse, for example, are a special type of horse. Tennessee walking horses naturally have a higher step. That high gait decreases bouncing and makes a smooth ride for the rider. In walking horse shows, the horse with a highest gate wins the competition. This gate is known as the Big Lick. To produce an even higher gait, many trainers have used chains or special horse shoes that cause more pressure on the hooves of a horse. This practice is known as soring, when people cause pain to the lower legs and hooves of a horse to speed up the training for a high (Gang). Thoroughbreds are used for one of the most famous equine sports ever; horse racing. However, these fast horses have a secret that make them go even faster. Performance enhancing drugs are used by veterinarians, trainers, and owners. This increases the horses speed, but the drugs are used way too often, and therefore damage the horses bones (Cohen). Whips are also a tool of encouragement in the racing industry. That is also hard to separate into black and white. One horse may shy away in fear from the whip, while ... • 5. Social Norms In Madame Flaubert s Madame Bovary In Madame Bovary, flowers embody the separation of Emma s desires from her reality as well as her defiance against Victorian norms. Throughout the novel, Emma faces the contrast of her romantic fantasies versus the boring, dissatisfying realities of her life with Charles. Emma also experiences conflict between Victorian societal norms and her behaviors that violate those norms. Flaubert s use of flowers distinguishes Emma s desires from her reality and her behavior from the set societal standard. The association of flowers with the church reflects Emma s romanticized vision of religion that moves away from piety. Emma not only desires to have a relationship with Rodolphe, but she wants to impress him with an illusion of her perfect life. Prior to the Opera in Part 2, Emma purchases a bouquet in order to create a rich persona (156). Not only does the Opera relay Emma s romantic desires for her lovers, it gives her a taste of the high class lifestyle. • 6. Dr Strangelove Themes The Cold War was a period from 1947 to 1991 that adhered erratic tension and constant threat of nuclear conflict between the two remaining superpowers that emerged from WWII, the U.S. and the Soviet Union. The 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, directed by Stanley Kubrick, depicts the overlying themes of the Cold War in a comedic fashion. This film s full embodiment of the Cold War is seen through its representation of the time period, and the sheer competitiveness between the United States and Russia. Additionally, due to many of Kubrick s movie decisions, the film has helped society acknowledge and understand the pure absurdity that the topic of nuclear destruction holds. In Dr. ... After General Ripper directs his plane to bomb the enemy, he describes his thought process to one of his officers, ...when [the president s advisors] realize there is no possibility in recalling the wing there will be only one course of action: open, total commitment . Here, a total commitment consists of the U.S. supporting General Ripper s plan by utilizing their full arsenal of nuclear weapons to attack Russia. General Buck Turgidson, one of the President s top advisors, echoes this exact idea in the war room and proposes to the U.S. President a full commitment. This was a possible solution that could have neutralized all of Russia in one wave of nuclear missiles; however, this strategy is frowned upon and dismissed by the President as it would reflect poorly on the U.S. diplomatic reputation in the long run. English Influence On American Culture Since the very first Europeans settled in America and came across the natives that had lived there for thousands of years before, cultures have come together. While some moments in history show the negative side to cultures meeting, there have also been good times. As time has passed, growing up in such a diverse culture has been positive. With food, religion, and languages, the blend of cultures has brought so many people together. Perhaps the most obvious in the blending of cultures can be found in the food Americans consume. Zoos collect different animals in one environment, but not all animals live in this environment. No place can keep different animals in their environment in small place because nobody can change the weather. We should get rid of zoos for two reasons. Frist, there is no place like home, and a zoo is not home for an animal. There are some animals live in wild, such as elephants and lions. Zoos take animals out of wild into place which is not same as their environment. In the wild, chimpanzees don t venture beyond 5 meters from their mothers until they reach 3 years of age. In captivity, new borns are often torn away from their mothers to be sold or exploited for photo ops. Most animals like elephants suffer from the small space in zoos, so they cannot walk as much as in their homes. In this case study, Eric is a 47 year old male who has just been diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease. He is a construction worker and spends a great deal of time away from his wife and three children. Eric smokes approximately 1 1⁄2 packs of cigarettes a day and enjoys drinking a 6 pack after a long day at work. In Eric s case, smoking clearly causes CAD and he smokes quite a bit. Also, high blood pressure can cause CAD and if he is stressed from all of his hard work, it could contribute to the disease as well (Beaumont, n.d.) Coronary artery disease is when plaque builds up in the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries supply blood to the heart. Plaque buildup in the arteries is called atherosclerosis. The plaque makes the arteries smaller and makes it harder for the arteries to supply oxygen to the heart. This atherosclerosis can cause heart attacks and angina (chest pain). • 10. Theme Of Alienation In Brave New World Brave New World is a novel written by Aldous Huxley which takes place in 2540 AD London and depicts a utopian future, where humans are bred genetically and influenced from birth to serve. Throughout the novel Huxley uses exile and alienation to express his feelings towards life in the so called Brave New World . The Palestinian American literary theorist Edward Said has described exile as strangely compelling to think about but terrible to experience. It is the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between self and its true home: its essential sadness can never be surmounted. Said has also said that exile can become a potent, even enriching experience . One of the characters who experiences such exile is John the Savage. John is in a tough place throughout the book. When he is with the savages he is alienated due to his complexion and the fact that his mother, Linda, is not liked due to her promiscuous acts with the men in the tribe. But when John is brought back to society he is torn between conforming to society and staying true to his beliefs. John is the only character who has a real birth mother and thus represents something unique although frowned upon in society and therefore being different he is unable to fit into the savage society. This becomes evident when he is denied the rites of passage and is unable to give his life through ceremonies to the society. On page 136 John is ripped out of the ranks of the other boys and is ... You see, the Eucharist is not just something you receive on Sunday, and forget about; it is more than that. We are called to perform services in the world and in our communities because of the Eucharist. This paper is about what we are called to do after we receive the Eucharist, and what we as Catholics should be doing already. The Eucharist enables us to come together as a Church every Sunday, and sometimes more often than that. It also unites us with the angels in heaven and the deceased, which enables all of God s people to participate in the celebration of Jesus s sacrifice. As Catholics, we never really worship alone. The Eucharist educates us to this love in a deeper way; it shows us, in fact, what value each person, our brother or sister, has in God s eyes, if Christ offers Himself equally to each one, under the species of bread and wine. If our Eucharistic worship is authentic, it must make us grow in awareness of the dignity of each person. In intangibility there are two different aspects that could be looked into which is the search quality and experience. The search quality is when they observe the product without experiencing it at first hand. In reality they would know what they would want to rent like for example kayaks, canoes or a motorboat by only looking at it but have not experienced it yet. The experience is when the customer has rented the tangible product and has had an experience using it while being able to assess whether it is satisfactory or not. Once the service rented is satisfactory, the customers would tend to return to the same place as they would have confidence on the service obtained. Services are harder to market to potential customers compared to goods as there is no physical evidence to showcase. This is where the advertisements, brochures and customers word of mouth play a big role. The advertisements and brochures has to be crystal clear and direct to capture the attention of potential customers, giving them an idea of the services that might be purchased, which in this case is rental of various boats. 3.2 Inseparability Inseparability means the ... Managers must determine which products are making performing the best so that they can capitalize on profits. This also helps to know when it should cut its losses. There are three very useful methods of identifying costs associated to a particular item which are job order costing, activity based costing (ABC), process costing. Job order costing isolates costs to a particular job. ABC compares multiple items which are manufactured. Process costing assesses items which are massed produced and provides analysis to the cost through the various stages from beginning to completion. This essay will explain each of these methods and then provide examples for each of them. Job Order Costing Job costing is a method of calculating the amount of dollars that it will take to perform a job in its entirety for the entity performing the work. Job costing is a valuable tool for managers of financial information in a company because it is an efficient way of learning which jobs have made money and which jobs have lost money. This is because the job costing method can trace or link how much resource such as labor, material, and overhead are spent to complete the job. Steven Bragg states that Job costing is the most common method for marshaling cost accounting information into a data structure containing usable information . He then ... A family to provide for and someone is constantly breathing down your neck to pay your debts. Can you imagine the sudden relief, of your debt being paid, every hard earned penny being your own, and finally your family having enough food on the table. Now lets apply this to underdeveloped poor countries. As the country struggles to get ahead, international lenders drown them in their overwhelming debt, preventing them from every rising to the surface. Thus my first contention is Mercy. Mercy is having compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one s power to punish or harm. As God has mercy on us, we should have mercy on others. God commands us to be perfect, holy, and righteous, but these traits are unattainable and God sovereignly understands, daily pouring His mercy out on us. This is the highest act of humaneness. How does this apply to our resolution? As an American, you cannot be against removing the debt of highly indebted countries unless you also condemn social security. The Bad Side Of Prostitution Even though prostitution was considered to be a bad and terrible thing to the other women and men in the higher class, it was also a fun thing for women because they got to explore and increase their sexual experience and pleasure by sleeping with different men and got to explore their sexual desires. Unlike the women who were priestess, wives, and servants/slaves who could only sleep with their husbands and no one else. So, that s one benefit of being a prostitute, being able to explore your sexual desires and don t have to worry about any of the consequences that a housewife had to worry about but just like everything else there is also a bad side to it. The bad side about prostitution is that you are more likely to catch diseases, end up being rape or worse and thanks to patriarchy system back then you would not get justice for it because sex is your profession and you re paid to sleep with different men; which means that no one in a jury or court system would believe you about being raped because of your job. Now in the modern day of prostitution it pretty much the same but different because in certain states and countries prostitution is illegal and there are few places that are authorized to serve as a brothel or whorehouse. In modern day prostitution people don t see too many brothels or whorehouses because it is illegal to run a business like that in U.S. while in many other foreign countries mainly Europe, it is legal for business such as brothel and whorehouses ... So how much baking soda, added to 10mL of compound vinegar( CH3CooH), will cause a film canister to shoot the furthest? I thought the answer to this question was 15mL of baking soda will shoot the lid of the film canister the furthest because there will be a longer reaction with more baking soda which will propel it far. This change happens because of they both have reactivity that causes the chemical change and shoots off the lid. The independent variable is the amount of baking soda and the dependent variable is how far the lid shoots. The amount of compound baking soda( NaHCO3) varied during several tests to see how far the lid would shoot from the end of the table to the back wall. Evidence that this reaction has taken place is the change in odor, color, and the appearance of gas or bubbles. To most people this does not sound like much of a problem, but even a fleck of paint moving 17,500 miles per hour or more can cause significant damage to spacecraft and space walkers alike. As more collisions take place and as new items enter the atmosphere the statistical probability of a collision will increase. This kind of minutiae based fingerprint recognition systems consists of two steps, i.e., minutiae extraction and minutiae matching. In the minutiae matching process, the minutiae feature of a given fingerprint is compared with the minutiae template, and the matched minutiae will be found out. If the matching score exceeds a predefined threshold, the two fingerprints can be regarded as belonging to a same finger.Such algorithms are the common ways to utilize the minutiae template for fingerprint recognition. In various works, the authors have often showed that these kinds of methods cannot provide enough distinguishing abilities for large scale fingerprint identification tasks hence the need for edge detection arises. In our study we have tried to integrate the edge detection technique with this minutia based method and tried to improve on the verification results of these algorithms. Edge Detection is used to curtail the patterns found in a fingerprint image so that weget only the most important information. Therefore the edge detected from its original image contains major information which requires less amount of memory to store. Whenever there isspectacular and evident change of pixels in the binaryimage for example, from grey to white, we say an edge is present. Edge detection is a non trivial task because it is often very difficult to establish if the change in intensity between the adjacent pixels is sufficient enough to be considered as an edge or not, hence ... The objective is to find two ways in which the density of a given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two ways is more accurate and hence better to use in such a case. The two methods used in this experiment are finding the dimensions of the object and water displacement. But to Mr. Underhill, the gender of the person, the people they re with, the amount of times the person touches an object, the amount of time spent on checking a particular product, the time they came in, and the time they leave, all factor into a database to determine different behavioral trend consumers have. It is these trends that they find in order to correct a problem a store or retailer didn t know they have to increase sales and create a better flow in the store environment. In the United States, it is important to understand each dimension and which cultural dimension we focus on most. In this paper, the five cultural dimensions and how they are implemented in the corporate world will be discussed. Culture is defined as, The learned, shared way of doing things in a particular society (Uhl Bien, Schermerhorn, Osborne, 2014, p.44). As referred by Geert Hofstede, culture is the, software of the mind . Hofstede is referring to our minds as, hardware since it is universal to all humans.
