The Health Problem Of Interest
Problem: Describe the health problem of interest. (2 paragraphs)
The health problem of interest is sickle cell disease. Sickle Cell Disease is also called Sickle Cell
Anemia. Sickle Cell disease is an inherited blood disorder which means it s not contagious. Anybody
that has sickle cell disease, must have two defective hemoglobin genes from each parent. If a person
has only one hemoglobin gene that is sickled and the other hemoglobin gene is normal the person will
have the sickle cell trait. Hemoglobin is a molecule in the red blood cell that helps carry oxygen.
There is an error in the hemoglobin that causes the cell to be sickled. This disease deforms the red
blood cells shape from a disc like shape meaning the red blood cells are healthy to a crescent moon
shape meaning that s unhealthy. The one thing in common that people either have the disease or trait is
they are immune from catching malaria.
In this disease the unhealthy sickled cells blockade the small arteries and veins which causes oxygen
depletion to all the tissues and critical organs in the human body. The damaged tissues surrounding the
veins and arteries causes infection, Congestive Heart Failure, Kidney Failure , Stroke, chronic anemia,
Blood Clots and, Painful Episodes. This disease causes the increase of risk in a lot of health problems
such as acute chest syndrome, leg ulcers, muscle pain, intracranial hemorrhages and, pulmonary
hypertension. There are major warning signs of sickle cell

The Ethics Of Warfare And Ethics
Warfare and Ethics
Many had question whether there is any ethical decisions when discussion about warfare. Are war
ethical or not? Does war bring any resolution to the conflicts or it just bring more conflicts between
nations and states? Have history of warfare demonstrate whether or not wars have ever resolve the
initial purpose of the war?
War ethics only defines whether the purpose of any war is right in order to initiate any conflict among
nations. But history has proven that humans have always uses wars as a mean of resolving political,
structural, religious concerns among each other. So whether or not war decisions involve ethics let
assume it does but it cannot be well explain because as human being we all believe that war only
cause hard in the first place, leaving out all the possibility that war actual resolve conflicts and create
peace. Moreover, the fact that many innocent individuals are often the victims of warfare also draw a
line of whether ethics is apply symbolically when deciding to declare a war to another nation or state.
The pacifism idea that war is always wrong and that war should never be the answer to solving
problem among nation often close the opportunities to understand history of conflict among nations
and state. Pacifism believe that violence is unjustifiable, but what about terrorism? Can terrorism be
resolve peacefully when terrorism nation are not willing understand and respect the ideal of other
nation. The fact that many war had

The Reflection Of Pressure Analysis Of A Diesel Engine
Abstract: In a diesel engine, three combustion parameters, which describe the crank angle at the start
of ignition, the total amount of heat release and the combustion duration can be used to control the
speed, efficiency, noise and exhaust emission. Pressure analysis of a diesel engine cylinder can be
used for identifying these parameters. The combustion parameters can be determined using the
pressure signal and the pressure derived from a mathematical model of the combustion process. One
such mathematical model of the combustion process called the Wiebe function is widely used in
application. In this work, we investigated the Wiebe function and the analysis shows that the
computational time to determine the combustion parameters is too high to be used in ... Show more

The position of the piston at the crank angle 180° is the bottom dead centre. At this position, the
cylinder volume is the maximum. We now give a simple description of a four stroke diesel engine.
Figure 1
Geometric parameters of a diesel engine (see online version for colours)
In the first stroke, the piston moves from top to bottom (BDC) and air is drawn through the intake
valve in the cylinder. The next stroke begins when the piston starts its upwards movement and the
intake valve closes. As the piston moves up, air is compressed and heated tremendously. When the
piston is near TDC, fuel is injected into the cylinder.
High temperature of the compressed air in the cylinder ignites the fuel vapour resulting in a small
explosion. In the next stroke, this explosion forces the piston back downwards to
BDC.
In the last stroke, the exhaust valve opens, and the cylinder is swept clean of burnt fuel by the piston
moving in the cylinder to TDC. A connecting rod transmits this motion to a crankshaft to convert
linear motion to rotary motion for use as power in a variety of applications. This entire cycle is
repeated for every two revolutions of the crankshaft

Judith Plaskow Research Paper
Judith Plaskow Judith Plaskow began her study of feminism while pursuing a Phd at Yale and
continued on to cofound B not Esh, a Jewish feminist spirituality collective, as well as author many
theological books (Braude, 2004, pg 219). She grew up in a Reform Judaism household and as a child
focused on ethical monotheism , which lead to her study of the Holocaust and the development of a
self image of victimhood (2004, pg 220). It was Naomi Weisstein, a psychologist, who spoke to
Plaskow women s group at Yale that really spurred her to reconsider her own ambitions in life (2004,
pg 221). In her discovery of feminism, Plaskow felt that she was able to move past her self identity as
a victim and began to examine how her womanhood and Jewishness could contribute to the world
(2004, pg 222). She began to connect feminism with religion along with her college friend Carol P.

Christ is the main leader of the Goddess Movement, although she grew up in a rather conservative
Christian family (Braude, 2004, pg 97 98). Upon entering Yale, her political views were opposite
those of her childhood, however she was still treated more as a female body than a female person
(2004, pg 99). Eventually, she was able to make life giving connections between herself and other
women at Yale, such as Plaskow (2004, pg 100). Christ tried to find a religion that could nourish her
soul, just as her friendships did, however, it was difficult to do so due to the deep embedded sexism in
many religions (2004, pg 102). It was Starhawk, a now famous neo pagan, who first introduced Christ
to the idea of a Goddess, rather than the male images of God she was accustomed to (2004, pg 102).
This Goddess allowed women to have an affirmation of their power, body and will (2004, pg 103).
Though she has found great success in her life as an author, Christ had struggled to find employment

Descriptive Letter
Il y a des fleurs partout pour qui veut bien les voir, Henry Matisse, or as google translate told me,
There are flowers everywhere for those who want to see them. That had been the first line of the first
letter. I remember every detail of the letter, as if I had found it in my faded yellow mailbox just this
morning. How could I not? This letter had changed my life forever. I was having a particularly
wearying morning that day, as people with both diabetes and kidney failure often do. I had not gotten
much sleep the night before, I woke up with a searing pain in my side, and my stomach felt hollow I
was so hungry. I was then discouraged when I remembered what my diet actually allowed (practically
nothing.) More time passed, and my stomach was putting up a fight, aching and growling. I had four
phone calls that morning, each person the same as the next. Asking how I was doing, and proceeding
to ball when I told them without a transplant, I may only have a year or less to live. When I was
finished comforting them, I would go back to the tedious work of morning chores, trying to complete
them without triggering any pain. When I finally did come to the task of getting the mail, I nearly
neglected to get it because what s the point anyways, but then mentally scolded myself for being
negative and went to get it. I remember shuffling through the medical bills, coupons, more medical
bills then finally coming across the letter. The envelope was smooth and white and it seemed

The Criminal Responsibility Of The Mentally Ill
Punishment or Treatment :The Criminal Responsibility of the Mentally Ill The representation and
discussion of mental disorders have drastically increased during more modern times. Through the
development of studies on psychiatric disorders and biological deficiencies, assessment and treatment
have slowly replaced the criminalization. Unfortunately for the protagonist of Perfume, an unfortunate
individual born with both situations, lacked all resources of treatment and sympathy, and was ridiculed
and isolated from society. The persuasive power of an odor cannot be fended off, it enters into us like
breath into our lungs, it fills us up, imbues us totally. There is no remedy for it. ― Patrick Suskind,
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Body odor is an unpreventable component of animals including
humans and it is primarily resulted from skin glands or sweat gland excretions. Body odor may give
the impression of being absent on certain individuals because its intensity is affected by many
circumstances such as the environment or emotions. Studies proved that each individual secretes a
scent that is distinctive and identifiable. Researchers also show that Newborn babies are attracted to
their birth mother through their familiar and comforting sense than others. Thus the main characters
lack of such ability largely impacts his well being, both emotionally and physically. From centuries till

Non-Profit Organization Analysis
My focus is on non profit organizations (that help the homeless population/low income clients) and
shelters that provide women/families to stay for a specified period of time. Each shelter has a program
that the residents have to abide by to stay in compliance. Each person must have a job, seeking
employment, or take advantage of an opportunity to learn to be a CDA. There are also other
opportunities that are available that the residents can take advantage of. Each non profit organization
has funding from the government, Kiser, P. (2012), (pp. 46 50), private companies that help the
organization, and with donations.

The Keystone Xl Oil Pipeline
In his speech before the Bloomberg Energy Conference in New York on April, last year, former
Canadian Minister on Natural Resources Joe Oliver outlined the significance of the Keystone XL oil
pipeline in meeting the growing demands of the United States for an environmentally safe and secure
energy source and distribution. He argued that North America s continued growth as a global
superpower depends on how it can meet its energy demands without depending so much on offshore
sources such as the Middle East which are mostly in conflict and are therefore unstable. Oliver seems
to present a compelling argument in favor of Canada s energy projects especially when he cites

We now attempt to review what Oliver had presented before the energy summit to understand how
attendees perceived Canada s stance on the Keystone XL project. Much of Rickford s work is a
continuance of the $650 billion resource development project left by his predecessor, including the
challenge of moving the Keystone XL forward amid obstacles. Rickford is expected to follow the
energy blueprint that Oliver had presented at the energy conference. Central to Oliver s arguments
were the accomplishments of Canada s energy efforts on innovation geared at producing cleaner
energy and on harnessing a diversified energy source from oil to recoverable gas, to hydroelectricity
and uranium... and then to wind energy as well. To complement government efforts on the consumer
level, Oliver also did not fail to mention the $1 billion in grants to get households to retrofit their
homes to become energy efficient. Establishing these facts gave Oliver a good start to present his
argument in favor of the US Canada collaboration on clean energy, which dialogues, he added started
in 2009. This was also the greatest strength of his presentation or of the article.
While Oliver did cite the IEA and the US State Department, he did not attempt to address the
criticisms and questions raised by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the US State
Department s study. According to the EPA, the US State Department

The White Heron Symbolism
The White Heron Literary Analysis How can a meager walk in the woods make for an engaging story?
Well, in The White Heron, the author Sarah Orne Jewett, uses colors, metaphorical application of
animals, and a theme questioning if humans can coexist with nature to bring us closer to our main
character and her internal dilemma throughout the story. In the story, colors are used not only to add
detail to the forest and world, but are also used to pour symbolism into standard objects. When a
moving squirrel is described as red amongst dark branches and the green leaves, we can imagine both
the actual scene and metaphorical representation of our heroine, Sylvia, rushing across her forest. One
of the big examples of color occurs before the

Examples Of Literary Criticism Of Hamlet
After reading your chosen essay of literary criticism, respond to the following questions:
1) What was your author s thesis?
Loberg s starts her essay by informing the reader that physical violence is the most infrequent form of
aggression and that people prefer alternatives that give bigger effect and less punishment. Her thesis
implies that Hamlet shows a great amount of examples of how humans psychologically treat each
other. Characters spread aggression in non physical violent ways such as spreading lies, framing
others and etc. Opening to the thought that the Queen was not seen as a suspect to Ophelia s death

Psychological Analysis of Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad Watching the Breaking Bad series helped me understand how one s superego can
deteriorate into their id following Freud s psychoanalytic theory. Walter White, the anti hero, takes us
on a journey which vividly illustrates Freud s thesis. From watching the series and reading critiques on
the Freudian aspect, I will develop my own report on: How ones selfishness takes over causing them
to be driven by their id ~ Focusing on Walter White from Breaking Bad The balance between the
angel (superego) on the right and the devil (id) on the left is the primary principle surrounding
Sigmund Freud s theory that ones id and superego is the framework for our psychology. Breaking Bad
(2008 2013), a TV series created by Vince Gilligan is a leading example of Freud s theory as we are
taken on a passage of the life of Walter White. We gain insights into his psychology, observing him
how Sigmund Freud may have. As Walter s train of thought changes throughout the series, we can
directly relate it to Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory. A high school chemistry teacher who did
everything by the book, not putting a finger out of line is who we are greeted by on the first episodes
of Breaking Bad. Walter White is portrayed initially as a passive man who is careful to do everything
morally, his superego strongly evident within him. This is clearly shown in the first episode Pilot
(season 1, episode 1) when Walter is working at the car wash and his boss makes him

Essay on Mill s Principles in His Work On Liberty
Mill s Principles in His Work On Liberty
John Stuart Mill was born in London in 1806, the son of the philosopher James Mill. James Mill was a
close friend of Jeremy Bentham, the founder of utilitarianism (the theory that states that the right
course of action is the course which generates the most happiness). Bentham and James Mill educated
J. S. Mill rigorously, to such an extent that he began reading Ancient Greek at age 3. He was reading
Plato s Dialogues at age 13 in their original form. His father trained him in political economy,
philosophy, the classics and many other intellectual subject areas.

So therefore the LP must be applied to everyone in a society for it to be legitimate.
The LP has many subsections which allow it to work; to just leave people free to do as they please
does not make a society legitimate. In fact, this would horrify Mill, because he is particularly worried
about the tyranny of the majority, and in this society an irrational majority could easily exact a tyranny
upon the rational minority as there would be no safeguards or restraints. The LP is put into place to
stop this happening. Mill is interested in the restrictions that law is allowed to place on people, but he
is also interested in the moral and social pressure that can be exerted by society upon individuals. He
doesn t want people to blindly follow custom.[1]
One of the sections of the LP is the harm principle (HP). This principle states that there are two kinds
of acts that a person can do. The first kind are self regarding acts, which only affect the individual who
is doing the self regarding act, for example using drugs to get high alone in your house.[2] The other
kind are other regarding acts, which affect other people, for example shooting someone in the face. A
society is only legitimate when it restricts other regarding acts, and doesn t touch self regarding acts,
as these acts are part of the private sphere. There are problems with this however. As mentioned in the

Internet Piracy And Its Effect On Our Society
How many songs does the average person have on their Mp3 devices? The Apple iTunes Company s
statistics have shown that the average person s iTunes library has just over 7,000 songs downloaded
onto it (Gurman). Those numbers seem substantially high, especially considering that most songs on
iTunes each cost $1.29. That would mean that the average person spends roughly $9,030 dollars on
their music library alone, right? Wrong. According to Apple, the total spending per iTunes account is
merely $43 per year, and that s across all media types. $43 dollars for an average of 7,000 songs? Now
that just doesn t add up. In recent years, internet piracy or file sharing of copyrighted material has
gained much popularity. It has been the recent advances in our technology that has made it main
stream in the eyes of the general public. Film makers, record companies, and many other
entertainment industries suffer from billions of dollars in lost profits every year... this loss comes as a
direct result of internet piracy (Cherry 1). There is rising debate on the issue of file sharing as an
unethical crime. Many consider it to be no different than downright theft. But are internet pirates being
looked upon like criminals? For years, American authorities have made numerous attempts to stop
piracy in its tracks. However, many court cases involving software theft have shown that not all
pirates are being punished equally. With piracy becoming a rising issue between American authorities,

McCune Albright Syndrome Summary: McCune Albright syndrome (MAS) is a disorder caused by a
non inherited mutation of GNAS1 gene. Clinical manifestations of the disorder include one or more of
the following: (1) polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (PFD), (2) café au lait skin pigmentation, and (3)
endocrine hyperfunction, usually early puberty in girls but also may include other endocrine
abnormalities like pituitary gigantism and Cushing syndrome. It is a rare disease with estimated
prevalence between 1/100,000 and 1/1,000,000. Prognosis is good if it is diagnosed and treated

Praxis In Relation To The Practitioner Inquiry
2. Praxis in relation to the practitioner inquiry As educators, we regularly take an action and
considering the impact of the action. Then we analysing the results of the action by reflecting upon it
and critically evaluate our professional knowledge and the effectiveness of our teaching. Further, we
are altering and revising conceptions and planning following reflection. Finally, we are implementing
these plans in further actions. In this process, teachers work collaboratively with other members of the
profession and engage in discussion of contemporary issues and research to improve professional
practice. Many educators are involved with praxis but it often isn t part of their vocabulary. Without

During my inquiry, I considered theories when planning, taking action, reflecting, evaluating and
finally documenting. Sometimes we can feel pressure to handle disruptive behaviours immediately.
Taking the time to understand the behaviour and to consider various options often results in a more
constructive resolution. After an event is past, taking the time to evaluate the effectiveness of our
response can help to improve our reaction in the next situation (Kuhlenschmidt Layne, 1999). During
my inquiry, I made questions about student behaviour and made assumptions. As an example student
behaviour during Friday, last period was really disruptive. I assumed, that may be their energy supply
is low or excitement about the weekend (mood). Discussion with teachers proved me this was a very
common experience. Research showed that It s natural for student attention levels to vary according to
motivation, mood, perceived relevance of the material, and other factors (Briggs, 2014). Based on my
understandings, knowledge, readings and other experts ideas, I developed an action plan for behaviour

jobs completely with a better than full time income.
Did you know that the most successful of these Internet marketers all share certain essential keys to

of the most effectiveness so that you can examine and adopt them too, to maximize your chances of ...

The truth if the matter is these successful folk will tell you that by making mistakes they learn even
more, much faster and are able to figure out how not to make the same mistakes again, then they pass
that knowledge on to others. They develop the mindset that to fail is to learn faster.
Key to Success #4
They have excellent time management skills. Successful online marketing depends on making the
most effective usage of the time you have. The successful Internet marketer maps out a work day that
is the heaviest with necessary tasks to be completed in the morning. That way it opens up the rest of
the day for other important activities like sharing quality time with family and friends.
For those who have to still work a regular job to support themselves while their Internet business takes
off they will make time in to complete 10 minute tasks and longer through out the day, time when they
know they won t be distracted (early in the morning before work, or late at night).
Key to Success #5
They are able to maintain a clear focus. Successful folks in Internet marketing are typically
individuals who give full attention to one activity at a time. If they re up against an activity that can t
be finished in one session, they ll split it up into smaller steps to enable them to focus on one action at
a time so that they can complete each one before starting the next.
Key To Success #6
They don t procrastinate. Quite a few Internet marketers use a system or

In 1964 Bush ran for the U.S. Senate against Ralph Yarborough, the Democratic incumbent.
Yarborough argued that Bush s views were too extreme, and, like most Republican candidates that
year, Bush was defeated in the landslide that accompanied the victory of Texas Democrat Lyndon B.
Johnson over U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona in the presidential election. Bush s strong
showing in the firmly Democratic state, however, won the attention of a former Republican vice
president and U.S. senator from California, Richard Nixon. In 1966, with assistance from Nixon, an
affluent Houston district elected Bush to the U.S. House of Representatives, and reelected him in
1968.
In the Congress of the United States Bush identified with Republican moderates who were practical
and business oriented, approaches to which his father had subscribed. He won a coveted seat on the
powerful House Ways and Means Committee (which has jurisdiction over financial matters),
supported the extension of voting rights to 18 year olds, and voted to abolish the military draft. After
two terms, he gave up his seat in the House to run again for the Senate, expecting to take on his old
rival Ralph Yarborough. The Democrats, however, nominated a much more moderate candidate
instead, former congressman Lloyd Bentsen, who defeated Bush in the fall.
Despite his defeat, Bush was just the kind of

Video Games, My Father And Mother
I was made who I am by Video Games, My Father and Mother. When I was a lot younger my father
bought me my first gaming console. It was a PlayStation One by Sony Entertainment. I remember
playing an abundance of different games, I mostly played Tekken games and early games in the Ace
Combat series. I had neighbors that came over to my house to play on it. I used to think they were my
friends, but in reality they were at a minimum 3 years older than me and only used me to play my
games. I didn t, and don t mind though, they were nice to me.
After about a year playing on the PS, Sony released the PS2 (PlayStation Two). I wanted one so bad,
every time I would see one in the store I asked for it until eventually my persistence paid off. My Dad
bought me a PS2, the first model I had was the original Fat Version . I had immense fun playing new
genre of games as well as updated versions of the older games I played. I would got trouble more than
once for staying up really late, I would never learn though as I still stay up late to play games to this
day. During the time I got my first PS2 I also began to play some on my parents computer. For the life
of me I can t remember the names of the games I played; all that s left is some vague images left in my
mind.

Depression is a mood disorder which causes persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest;
affecting how you feel, think, behave and can ultimately lead to a variety of emotional and physical

around 15.7 million adults age 18 or older in the U.S. had experienced at least one major depressive
episode in the last year, which represented 6.7 percent of all American adults. At any point in time, 3

Types of Car Brake System Essay
HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
In a little over hundred years since automobile took hold of most people s imagination, technologies
design to make acceleration faster and reaching higher speeds have evolved. Despite charges, turbo
charges, twin turbo charges or NOX, there are limits, which cannot be greater by land based vehicle in
terms of speed. Not the same can be said about the rather unseen parts of the automotive evolution.
The only limitation to them is in connection with the human body s ability to withstand rapid
decelerations. It would be a lot easier to stop a car then to make it go faster otherwise. Whether they
come in form of drum brakes or as disk, the brakes have been the horsepower s companions
throughout decades, each pulling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drum break had a main problem and that is that the heat within is not efficiently disbursed. Since
the drum prevents wind from drawing it away. The heat produced inside the drum does not easily
escape. The disk brake however was open to the wind, allowing the heat to be easily carried away,
increasing the efficiency of the break.
The development and use of the disk brakes was fist in England in the 1980 s. Frederick William
Lanchaster was the first guy that patented the first ever caliper type disk brake in his Birmingham
factory in 1902 and it was used successfully on his Lanchaster cars. He struggled to keep up the
maintenance of a quality brake because of the limited choice of metals in the period of time. Causing
him to use copper as the braking medium acting on the disk. However, due to the bad road conditions,
it didn t allow copper to last very long because copper can wear out easily, making the disk brake
system non viable.
Crosley Hot Shot in the 1950 is often given the credit for first use of the U.S production of disk brake.
The Chrystal Crown Imperial had them first used actually, as a standard equipment at the beginning of
the model year in 1942. Crosley disk was a good year development that was originally designed for
use on aircrafts; it was the caliper type with ventilated rotor. Regions that required the use of salt like
winter roads caused sticking and corrosion, leading to enormous reliability problems due to the lack of
research.

If there are any signs of a stroke, remember the acronym FAST . Face: does the face droop on one side
when the person is asked to smile? Arms: Is the affected person able to lift their arms? And if so, does
one or both drop downwards more than the other? Speech: When asked to repeat a phrase, is the
speech able to be understood without any slurring, hesitation, or is the person unable to verbally
respond at all? Time: Time is crucial to treatment of a stroke. If any or all of these signs are present,
the person witnessing the event should call 911 immediately (Staff, Stroke, Symptoms and Causes,
2017).
Pathogenesis of Cerebrovascular Accidents
There are many factors that can lead to the development of a cerebrovascular accident. Factors that
contribute to the development of a stroke are hypertension, dysrhythmias, heart disease, diabetes,
gout, postural hypotension, cardiac hypertrophy, high cholesterol levels, a sedentary lifestyle,
smoking, and a diet high in cholesterol and unhealthy fat (Med help, 2009). The most common type of
CVA is an ischemic stroke. Ischemic strokes account for 85% of cerebrovascular accidents (Staff,
Stroke, Symptoms and Causes, 2017). There are two types of ischemic strokes, thrombotic and
embolic. A thrombotic stroke is when a blood clot forms in an artery of the brain.

I believe in Heaven and Hell. In this sense I believe that we live two lives, one on earth and one in
eternity. I do not that we are reborn again and again. I also believe the life we live on earth determines
the life we will live in eternity. It makes no sense that previously mentioned inherently evil people and
people with good hearts would have the same fate. However, just as with my view of the ultimate, I
take issue with the religious side of Heaven and Hell. It is incomprehensible to me that a good person
would have an eternity in hell for believing in a different god, loving someone of the same sex, or
some similar deed that the Bible has claimed is worthy of Hell. In my opinion, if you live a good life,
you are deserving of a good eternity. Socrates believed that we should not be afraid of death, as we
don t know what it entails; it could be the greatest thing that happens to us. I definitely agree with this
statement. Death has never been something I feared. Heaven is promised to be a paradise free from
any pain or suffering in this world, essentially Heaven is promised to be the greatest thing that could
ever happen to you. However, there is still a great amount of unknown that accompanies death. In
some ways I both agree and disagree with the Hindu beliefs on death as well. I suppose Heaven can be
viewed as a reincarnation of sorts, however I believe this is the only rebirth of the soul. Whereas

The Image Of The Original Design By Evoking Less Distress
It is the shifting of emotion from one idea to another that resembles the original in some qualities or
aspects. This movement permits the symbolic representation of the original design by evoking less
distress. In other words, displacement is when a person represses feelings of affection or fear or
impulses that they feel towards another person. They recognize that their feelings are either irrational
or socially unacceptable and therefore cannot be publicly demonstrated. The psyche in turn prevents
these emotions from being converted into inappropriate actions. However, since the feelings continue
to exist, they are instead displaced towards another person or animal whom it is acceptable to express
such sentiments against. For example, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rationalization occurs as a result of a person attempting to explain or create an excuse for an event or
action in rational terms. In doing so, they are able to avoid accepting the true cause or reason that has
resulted in the persons present situation. For example, a shoplifter that blames their action of theft on
greedy capitalists who care more about making money than making goods affordable. Rationalization
is a widely used defense mechanism, especially in attempts to excuse mistakes to avoid condemnation
by others and themselves. A common example of rationalization is expressed in the adage, sour grapes
. An example of rationalization that I have witnessed is someone that I know who refuses to stop
smoking because she is going to inevitably die one day. She excuses her addiction by dismissing its
harmful effects and uses the unavailability of death as the rationalization to continue her behavior.
Dissociation Temporary and drastically modifying one s character or one s sense of personal identity
to avoid emotional distress. The use of dissociation as a defense mechanism tends to involve
temporary loss of a person s connection to the world surrounding them. People experiencing
disassociation often describe feeling separated from the outside world, as though they exist in a
different realm. Dissociation often helps people to cope with very uncomfortable situations

Summary Of Mira Nair And Mississippi Masala
Mira Nair and Mississippi Masala (1991) Introduction Mira Nair is an independent filmmaker who
splits her time between New York City, Kampala, and wherever her next project takes her. As
appraised by the writers at RogerEbert.com, Nair has made a career of presenting audiences with
characters they may not know first hand, but connect with personally (2016). Her work is a delicate
balance between the exploration of complex issues of identity and displacement and the humor and
vibrancy of everyday life. Background Born on October 15, 1957 in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, India,
young Nair watched as her father, a civil servant, helped mold India s new identity (IMDb, 2017). At
the age of sixteen, Nair pursued protest theater in Kolkata (kael kun taa), capital of West Bengal state
(Badt, 2004, pg. 10). Her college career began at Delhi University, with a focus on theater, and
continued at Harvard University, where Nair became enamored with cinéma vérité and sociology
(Badt, 2004, pg. 10). She directed her first work, Jama Masjid Street Journal (1979), at the age of 22
(Nair Meer, 1991, pg. 47). The thematic aspect of Nair s films remains consistent. Her work explores
the concept of otherness, as seen in the dancers of India Cabaret (documentary, 1985), the homeless
children of Salaam Bombay! (fiction, 1988), and the cultural hybrid that is Mina of Mississippi

The Importance Of Political Parties In The United States
b.The people s trust in the government and their political leaders has been in decline since the 1970 s.
Pre 1970s people had more faith in the honesty of the government but after the Watergate scandal that
trust diminished and in turn we became more scrutinizing more critical and demanding of our leaders.
for example our scrutiny over the NSA and government surveillance was a prime example of how we
are distrustful of our government and what they are doing. After we were told that we were being
watched we criticized the NSA, some became paranoid that all of our texts are being spied on and that
they are storing all our personal information. This affects the political efficacy and viewpoints of
many americans. Some people may not want to vote because they are distrustful of their candidates or
of the system, and some decide to become an independent and take away importance from political
parties which according to some are untrustworthy. This also has affected what is published in ...

Voting and political participation are key components of democracy and without them we would not

the average non voters ideas. the average non voter believes that his one vote is not going to make a
difference, or it s rigged, or they don t have time to vote. This results in lowering political
participation. Another cause is that many people are not always well educated about civics and what
they can do to participate in the government and because of that they may not be aware of how to

move their clothespins up or down the chart, based on the behavioral choices they make. If they are
making good choices, they can move their clothespin up a level at a time. Inappropriate behavior
would cause them to move down a level. Since the children start in the middle of the chart, they have
numerous opportunities to work their way up the chart. This really helps the children realize that they
have to have self control and be responsible for their actions and behavior if they want to be
recognized for making good choices. Making it to the top of the chart is not easy, but it is definitely
attainable. The children quickly realize how they must conduct themselves in order to achieve this

This is because they constantly keep their shelf stock moving. This is shown by the SKU (stock

costs per unit down achieving exceptional economies of scale. All of these barriers to enter the market
make it difficult for new entrants trying to enter the market. The second force that I will use to analyze

looking at the rivalries in the industry are industry demand, cost conditions, and exit barriers. Trader
Joe s competitors include The Kroger Co., Whole Foods Market, and Safewat Inc., and all super

Twelfth Night Feste The Fool
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word fool can be defined in many ways. A fool can
be a stupid or silly person , or one who is made to appear foolish , a dupe, a jester, or one who lacks
good sense or judgement . The average child would see clowns or their fathers as silly fools. The more
mature mind would describe fools as drunkards or annoying coworkers. While the many definitions
above are valid, they are not as accurate in describing Feste the Fool in Shakespeare s Twelfth Night.
In actuality, Feste is no fool at all. His wit, smarts, and observational skills make him the most

illuminating the foolishness of human nature through his ability to point out the folly in others. This is
made possible in virtue of his gift for analyzing and judging situations and the other characters. In Act

first metatarsophalangeal joint, although can involve other joints as well. Figure 1: the natural ... Show

2011), and these have been shown to be independent risk factors (Lin et al. 2000).
Hyperuricaemia is associated with higher all cause mortality
The classical hypothesis is that high uric acid levels lead to increased chance of crystals forming,
which then deposit in the joints. However, recent evidence has started to suggest that hyperuricaemia
itself is a risk factor for increased mortality from causes other than gout. A study carried out on
Japanese men has shown that high serum uric acid has been linked with an increased relative risk of
mortality from all causes in a study carried out on Japanese male workers (Tomita et al. 2000). An
increased mortality raises the question of whether we should routinely prescribe primary prevention
interventions in patients who are in the stage of asymptomatic hyperuricaemia.
Early studies have shown that there is no significant increase in mortality from renal failure. A
prospective study followed a cohort of 2046 initially healthy men and measured urate levels and the
incidence of a raised serum creatinine (Campion et al. 1987). They concluded that there wasn t a
significant rise in the creatinine level, and that there was no significant renal impairment caused
hyperuricaemia, supporting a conservative treatment regimen.
However, it is worth nothing that this measurement was done by correlation urate levels and creatine
levels as the baseline creatinine varies from person to person, it could be argued that this is not

New Labour Continuation of Thatcherism
Thatcherism changed and affected not only the political landscape of Britain but also the mere social
fabric that Britain had lived by for decades. Thatcher s policies of the 1970s and 1980s would go on to
shape the nation well into the millennium.
This essay will aim to analyze the extent to which New Labour having been elected in 1997 continued
the implementation of Thatcher s policies.
The many reasons why New Labour under Tony Blair continued Thatcherite policies will be explored
throughout this paper. Once analysis of New Labour has been explored, this paper will attempt to
narrow the consequences of Thatcher s policy continuation to confer whether those policies were
beneficial or destructive to British political discourse and British society.
It is important to give a brief explanation as to what is meant by the term Thatcherism in British
political discourse. Thatcherism according to Heffernan suggests that there are several contradictory
explanations to the meaning of Thatcherism. He contends that Thatcherism could be explained via a
short hand description of what the Thatcher led Conservative governments did at any one time or
similarly it could be explained as a popular political movement, a policy style; a form of leadership;
or.an ideological project, a vehicle which advanced a post social democratic neo liberal political
agenda (Heffernan, 2001). The term Thatcherism is therefore an umbrella term that not only describes

Critical Analysis Of Symphonie Fantastique
During the Romanic period, there were many advances in regards to instrumentation, and the size of a
typical orchestra increased in size and range, adding in more instruments to the wind, brass and
percussion sections. Symphonie Fantastique, by Hector Berlioz, was no exception, and was written for
an extensive orchestra of 220 players, including, piccolos, flutes, oboes, horns, clarinets, bassoons,
cornets, trumpets, trombones, tuba (or ophicleides), timpani, bells, a wide variety of percussion, bells,
violins, violas, cellos and double basses. Through this symphony, various instruments have
programmatic purposes to develop the scene, such as the pizzicato strings in the 4th movement,
representing the head bouncing after he was decapitated, and the clarinet in E flat and bassoons in the
5th movement, depicting bubbles rising in a cauldron.
Both movements 4 and 5 were through composed, featuring various musical fragments and themes.
Movement 4 features two key themes in addition to the idée fixe, whilst Movement 5 centred around 3
musical themes; the Beloved (Harriet), the Great Shout, and the Fearsome Crowd. An idée fixe is a
melodic fragment that returns throughout, and in Symphonie Fantastique, it references the Beloved,
Harriet, and varies in rhythm, tempo, metre, instrumentation and harmony throughout to change the
character. In the 4th movement, he is getting taken to the scaffolds. The solo clarinet plays it from beat
3 of bar 164 to 168, however, it is abruptly

Natural Disaster Indonesia Essay
Disaster, both natural and man made, are increasing in their frequency and catastrophic impact in
Indonesia. Natural hazards like landslides, avalanches, floods and debris flows can result in enormous
property damage and human casualties in mountainous regions (Matternicht, 2005). Earthquake,
flood, landslide, subsidence are only a few to mention (Walter et al., 2008; Abidin et al., 2009, Chini
et al., 2008; US. Geology Survey, 2006; Tsuji et al., 2009). The term natural disaster has been brought
as a common vocabulary to our daily life as news bringing information on natural disaster is occurring
in any parts of our planet recently. Planet Earth provides us with the air, food, warmth, and materials
we need to thrive. But Earth can also generate catastrophic disasters, from tsunamis and landslides to
tornadoes and wildfires, that kill people, damage the environment, destroy property, and disrupt
normal life. Such disasters may be sudden and violent, like an earthquake or flood, or gradual, like
drought or the spread of a deadly disease. Due to the lack or inadequate disaster prevention and
mitigation strategies in Indonesia, the impact of disasters which they do occur is much greater than in
other developed countries. Disaster detection and monitoring are essential aspect in disaster mitigation
and it s conventionally done by ground survey. Nowadays, remote sensing plays important role in
disaster mitigation.

Compare And Contrast The Grasshopper And The Bell Cricket
Fiction by An Le
There are many great short stories I ve been reading lately, but Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest
Hemingway, and The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket by Yasunari Kawabata are the story seems to
standout the most. Each story was written by different authors. Each story has different elements and
meanings behind it. If Hills Like White Elephants is about a young couple and the controversial issues
of abortion. Grasshopper and the Belle Cricket is about the reflection of valuable lessons that the
children need for future reference. Regardless all of that, they also have some similarity and somehow
they are quite related to each other.
First of all, the third person narrator was used in Hills Like White Elephants . ... Show more content

Both of the stories are written in the third person point of view. Both of the stories have the deeper
meaning behind them. Hills Like White Elephant gives the reader more inside of the nearly ending
relationship and the taboo topic. However The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket definitely have better
impact. The lesson that is shared by Kawabata s wisdom is really valuable. Kawabata implies that it is
childish and immature to think that the world is full of grasshoppers. People need to recognize that
there are many bell crickets in ones life, enjoy little things in life, and appreciate people around

Gregory The Great Accomplishments
For over a period of seven hundred plus years, from Gregory the Great s papacy to Boniface VIII s
papacy, the world experienced many influential popes, whose accomplishments changed the course of
history. Many of these popes become known for both their positive accomplishments, which brought
prosperity to their people, and for their failures, which in many cases led to their own death.
Throughout the given time period, Pope Nicholas II, Pope Gregory VII, Pope Innocent III, and Pope
Gregory IX, were all influential popes whose accomplishments are what they are most remembered
for.
First, Pope Nicholas II decreed that the College of Cardinals would obtain authority to choose the
pope. The College of Cardinals was made up of a group of Roman Church officials who were in
charge of electing the pope, which was put in place to prevent kings from selecting popes. The
declaration made by Nicholas II for the continuation of the College of Cardinals led to the declaring of
independence from political structure. This meant that the Roman Church officials did not have to
seek the approval of the King before electing a new pope, while preventing kings from electing
puppets, to do the bidding of the King. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gregory VII was attempting to test the Church s independence by excommunicating those who
participated in lay investiture. At Canossa in 1077, Gregory reigned supreme after Henry was
excommunicated for defying the papacy. Gregory also attacked the corrupt practice of simony, the
buying and selling of church offices, which was in direct confrontation with the College of Cardinals,
a council that he helped to establish. Overall, Gregory s accomplishments include the affirming the
papal primacy and the attempt to destroy the practice of

Thurgood Marshall Case Study
In 1991, Thurgood Marshall, the first African American to be designated to the United States Supreme
Court, chose to resign. For the duration of his life, Justice Marshall embodied a perfect of authority in
the legitimate battle for Civil Rights. In the 1950s, he drove the NAACP s noteworthy fight against
racial isolation in the Brown versus the Board of Education of Topeka case, which looked to integrate
the state funded schools. At the point when the case went in the witness of the Supreme Court in May
1954, the Justices found Marshall s contentions persuading and decided that different instructive

  • 2. The Health Problem Of Interest Problem: Describe the health problem of interest. (2 paragraphs) The health problem of interest is sickle cell disease. Sickle Cell Disease is also called Sickle Cell Anemia. Sickle Cell disease is an inherited blood disorder which means it s not contagious. Anybody that has sickle cell disease, must have two defective hemoglobin genes from each parent. If a person has only one hemoglobin gene that is sickled and the other hemoglobin gene is normal the person will have the sickle cell trait. Hemoglobin is a molecule in the red blood cell that helps carry oxygen. There is an error in the hemoglobin that causes the cell to be sickled. This disease deforms the red blood cells shape from a disc like shape meaning the red blood cells are healthy to a crescent moon shape meaning that s unhealthy. The one thing in common that people either have the disease or trait is they are immune from catching malaria. The Reflection Of Pressure Analysis Of A Diesel Engine Abstract: In a diesel engine, three combustion parameters, which describe the crank angle at the start of ignition, the total amount of heat release and the combustion duration can be used to control the speed, efficiency, noise and exhaust emission. Pressure analysis of a diesel engine cylinder can be used for identifying these parameters. The combustion parameters can be determined using the pressure signal and the pressure derived from a mathematical model of the combustion process. One such mathematical model of the combustion process called the Wiebe function is widely used in application. In this work, we investigated the Wiebe function and the analysis shows that the computational time to determine the combustion parameters is too high to be used in ... We now give a simple description of a four stroke diesel engine. Figure 1 Geometric parameters of a diesel engine (see online version for colours) In the first stroke, the piston moves from top to bottom (BDC) and air is drawn through the intake valve in the cylinder. The next stroke begins when the piston starts its upwards movement and the intake valve closes. As the piston moves up, air is compressed and heated tremendously. When the piston is near TDC, fuel is injected into the cylinder. High temperature of the compressed air in the cylinder ignites the fuel vapour resulting in a small explosion. In the next stroke, this explosion forces the piston back downwards to BDC. In the last stroke, the exhaust valve opens, and the cylinder is swept clean of burnt fuel by the piston moving in the cylinder to TDC. A connecting rod transmits this motion to a crankshaft to convert linear motion to rotary motion for use as power in a variety of applications. This entire cycle is repeated for every two revolutions of the crankshaft (Whitelaw et al., 2000). 3 Physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That had been the first line of the first letter. I remember every detail of the letter, as if I had found it in my faded yellow mailbox just this morning. How could I not? This letter had changed my life forever. I was having a particularly wearying morning that day, as people with both diabetes and kidney failure often do. I had not gotten much sleep the night before, I woke up with a searing pain in my side, and my stomach felt hollow I was so hungry. I was then discouraged when I remembered what my diet actually allowed (practically nothing.) More time passed, and my stomach was putting up a fight, aching and growling. I had four phone calls that morning, each person the same as the next. Asking how I was doing, and proceeding to ball when I told them without a transplant, I may only have a year or less to live. When I was finished comforting them, I would go back to the tedious work of morning chores, trying to complete them without triggering any pain. When I finally did come to the task of getting the mail, I nearly neglected to get it because what s the point anyways, but then mentally scolded myself for being negative and went to get it. Central to Oliver s arguments were the accomplishments of Canada s energy efforts on innovation geared at producing cleaner energy and on harnessing a diversified energy source from oil to recoverable gas, to hydroelectricity and uranium... and then to wind energy as well. To complement government efforts on the consumer level, Oliver also did not fail to mention the $1 billion in grants to get households to retrofit their homes to become energy efficient. The LP has many subsections which allow it to work; to just leave people free to do as they please does not make a society legitimate. In fact, this would horrify Mill, because he is particularly worried about the tyranny of the majority, and in this society an irrational majority could easily exact a tyranny upon the rational minority as there would be no safeguards or restraints. The LP is put into place to stop this happening. Mill is interested in the restrictions that law is allowed to place on people, but he is also interested in the moral and social pressure that can be exerted by society upon individuals. He doesn t want people to blindly follow custom.[1] One of the sections of the LP is the harm principle (HP). This principle states that there are two kinds of acts that a person can do. The first kind are self regarding acts, which only affect the individual who is doing the self regarding act, for example using drugs to get high alone in your house.[2] The other kind are other regarding acts, which affect other people, for example shooting someone in the face. Types of Car Brake System Essay HISTORY AND BACKGROUND In a little over hundred years since automobile took hold of most people s imagination, technologies design to make acceleration faster and reaching higher speeds have evolved. Despite charges, turbo charges, twin turbo charges or NOX, there are limits, which cannot be greater by land based vehicle in terms of speed. Not the same can be said about the rather unseen parts of the automotive evolution. The only limitation to them is in connection with the human body s ability to withstand rapid decelerations. It would be a lot easier to stop a car then to make it go faster otherwise. Whether they come in form of drum brakes or as disk, the brakes have been the horsepower s companions throughout decades, each pulling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The drum break had a main problem and that is that the heat within is not efficiently disbursed. Since the drum prevents wind from drawing it away. The heat produced inside the drum does not easily escape. The disk brake however was open to the wind, allowing the heat to be easily carried away, increasing the efficiency of the break. The development and use of the disk brakes was fist in England in the 1980 s. Frederick William Lanchaster was the first guy that patented the first ever caliper type disk brake in his Birmingham factory in 1902 and it was used successfully on his Lanchaster cars. He struggled to keep up the maintenance of a quality brake because of the limited choice of metals in the period of time. Causing him to use copper as the braking medium acting on the disk. However, due to the bad road conditions, it didn t allow copper to last very long because copper can wear out easily, making the disk brake system non viable. Crosley Hot Shot in the 1950 is often given the credit for first use of the U.S production of disk brake. The Chrystal Crown Imperial had them first used actually, as a standard equipment at the beginning of the model year in 1942. Crosley disk was a good year development that was originally designed for use on aircrafts; it was the caliper type with ventilated rotor. Regions that required the use of salt like winter roads caused sticking and corrosion, leading to enormous reliability problems due to the lack of research. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It makes no sense that previously mentioned inherently evil people and people with good hearts would have the same fate. However, just as with my view of the ultimate, I take issue with the religious side of Heaven and Hell. It is incomprehensible to me that a good person would have an eternity in hell for believing in a different god, loving someone of the same sex, or some similar deed that the Bible has claimed is worthy of Hell. In my opinion, if you live a good life, you are deserving of a good eternity. Summary Of Mira Nair And Mississippi Masala Mira Nair and Mississippi Masala (1991) Introduction Mira Nair is an independent filmmaker who splits her time between New York City, Kampala, and wherever her next project takes her. As appraised by the writers at RogerEbert.com, Nair has made a career of presenting audiences with characters they may not know first hand, but connect with personally (2016). Her work is a delicate balance between the exploration of complex issues of identity and displacement and the humor and vibrancy of everyday life. Background Born on October 15, 1957 in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, India, young Nair watched as her father, a civil servant, helped mold India s new identity (IMDb, 2017). At the age of sixteen, Nair pursued protest theater in Kolkata (kael kun taa), capital of West Bengal state (Badt, 2004, pg. 10). Pre 1970s people had more faith in the honesty of the government but after the Watergate scandal that trust diminished and in turn we became more scrutinizing more critical and demanding of our leaders. for example our scrutiny over the NSA and government surveillance was a prime example of how we are distrustful of our government and what they are doing. However, recent evidence has started to suggest that hyperuricaemia itself is a risk factor for increased mortality from causes other than gout. A study carried out on Japanese men has shown that high serum uric acid has been linked with an increased relative risk of mortality from all causes in a study carried out on Japanese male workers (Tomita et al. 2000).
