Choosing social issues
1. Homophobia
For Homophobia, the ideas I had for posters was to have a simple yet
effective poster that holds a deep message within it. The key parts of
these images, are the use of colours to give more attention to a word
such as âHomophobiaâ or âGayâ. The messages used in these photos are
mostly a play on words for example the âHomophobiaâ then changing to
âHomo-sapiensâ while crossing out the âphobiaâ part of the word to show
the campaign against homophobia. Some other examples use jokes or
insults that would be considered homophobic for their campaign as a
joke that actually has a meaning behind it when you think about that
poster. In conclusion the ideas I have for these photos would be for the
Stonewall charity and the posters would be simple and effective with a
good use of colour.
2. Climate Change
For Climate Change, my ideas were to be like the examples showed
beside this text. These posters are very colourful and provide information
visually by displaying simple graphics that show case what is happening in
the world. For example the globe and penguin melting posters are
showing that the ice caps are melting, the other examples also display
this but one of them uses an hourglass to show that we donât have much
time left to save our planet while the other is a tourist poster in the
future to see iconic places that would become underwater. In conclusion
I would have posters that lack words but their lack of words are made up
with clear graphics that tell a message. The clients I could choose for this
could be WWF who worry about climate change endangering not just
humans but animals too.
3. Drunk Driving
For Drunk driving, these are the posters that I am using for
inspiration for my own campaign, these posters use sudden
language and images to âscareâ the reader. These posters are
supposed to stick in your head as something bad to change a
persons attitude towards this issue. These posters mainly use
colours that alert people like red, black and white. These photos
also put messages within the images for example the second
image in the corner with the question âHow Much Will Your Next
Round Cost You?â which then displays messages as what could
happen due to drunk driving which is a smart technique which I
could use for my campaign. In conclusion, the posters I could use
would use extreme language and imagery that sticks in your head.
The client I could work with on this could be THINK! Organisation
that deals with drunk driving and alcoholism.
4. Male Suicide and Domestic Violence
For these issues, I have chosen these images as examples to what I could
do for these issues. These are hard hitting posters that use a serious tone,
and a bold message to metaphorically hit the reader with these hard and
solid facts that are a problem in our society. These images are using
images that do make you think and they are images that stick in your
head, which makes you think about the issue. These organisations aim to
change attitudes and raise awareness and equality for these issues which
have been brought up but not specifically for men. In conclusion I could
use a serious tone in the posters with a hard message to get to the
reader, the organisations I could work with could be No More and 1 in 3.
5. Homelessness
For this issue, I have chosen these images as example for what I could do
if I pick this issue for my campaign. These images show bland colours
mixed in with an image and a message to go with this, the last picture I
have chosen is a smart example of how this could work. The top poster is
an infographic showing how many people are homeless, mixed with clear
colours and simple graphics to show people how bad it is. In conclusion
the organisation I could use for this could be The Samaritans or a small
organization called Shelter that deals with homelessness as itâs main
issue.
