The client: The World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF)
The WWF is a non profit conservation organization that works in 100 countries across the
world and have a membership of about 5 million, the organization is a combination of local
and global aid to help protect the needs of both nature and people. The organization
started in 1961 when a few organizations around the world were trying to meet
conservation needs but were desperately short on funds so to solve this 16 of the world’s
leading conservationists made something called the Morges Manifesto, this stated that
despite the expertise to protect the world’s environment existed the funding for this cause
did not. The decision was made to establish a World Wildlife Fund as an international
fundraising organization, to work in collaboration with existing conservation groups and
bring financial support to the conservation movement on a worldwide scale. The H.R.H.
Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands became the first president of the organisation, and
H.R.H. Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh became the first president of the British
National Appeal which is the first organization in the WWF family.
The client: The World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) (Continued)
The WWF works in 6 categories across the world, a quote from the website states “These
things are not just “nice to have”. . . they are “need to haves.” They are the things that
make it possible for us to live. And so, to ensure our very survival, they must be kept
safe.”. These things are to conserve the world’s forests, safeguard healthy oceans and
marine livelihoods, secure fresh water for people and nature, protect the most important
species, double net food availability and create a climate resilient and zero carbon world
powered by renewable energy, the organization works to make sure that the world still
possesses all of these things to maintain a good life for all beings on the planet. This
organization is not profit so the funding comes from various different sources, these are
individual donations, government grants, foundations, corporations, network, and other non
operating contributions. The revenue earned is then placed back into conservation
activities, for example programs, fundraising and finance and administration.
The issues: Forests and Oceans
The first main issue listed on their website is forests, they’re main goal with this issue is to
conserve the world’s most important forests to sustain nature’s diversity, benefit our
climate and to support human well-being. To achieve this goal the organization is doing a
number of things to help this, this is influence government funding and policies in certain
countries like Myanmar and Belize to encourage more forest conservation. Another thing
that the WWF are doing is stopping illegal logging of forests, in countries like the USA the
WWF are strengthen the governments ability to prosecute illegal timber cases. All of these
efforts will help to the elimination of deforestation threats. The next issue is the ocean,
their goal is to have a resilient ocean that sustains marine life with functioning ecosystems
that support rich biodiversity, food security and sustainable livelihoods. There are multiple
things that the WWF are doing to achieve this goal the first one being to increase
sustainable fishing, doing this would keep the oceans healthy and stop illegal fishing and it
will keep the food chain in the oceans safe. A big effort is how the WWF is safeguarding the
arctic, doing this will slow the rising sea and slow the warming of the seas. The WWF have
been doing this for 25 years in the Arctic to try and make a good effort, this is an issue I
want to bring up in my campaign because my whole campaign will be around the issue of
climate change which I will write about more in this presentation.
The issues: Fresh Water and Wildlife
The next issue the WWF is campaigning for is fresh water, their goal is to by 2025 make sure
the world’s major water basins are improved or maintained so that everyone can have
access to water. There are a number of things the WWF are trying to do to achieve this goal,
the first one being to protect freshwater ecosystems making sure the water being taken
from rivers is responsible and making sure the ecosystem thrives. The next method is how
they are managing water resources in a changing climate which for my campaign is
important because I’m focusing on climate change, this method is how WWF is partnering
with institutes to investigate how to most effectively adapt to the changing climate. They
are focused on building water security in Asia’s mountain ranges and the deserts to make
sure those societies can have access to water. The next issue is the most common issue that
people will associate WWF with which is wildlife, where their goal is protect the most iconic
species of animals and make sure they don’t go extinct. Most people are very aware of the
efforts that go into protecting the wildlife, for example closing ivory markets in Asia,
doubling the number of wild Tigers by 2022 which also helps protect the forest around
them, empowering local people to protect the wildlife from poachers and also putting an
end to wildlife crime all over the world.
The issues: Food and Climate
The second to last main issue is food, and to make sure the food systems are reliable to
conserve nature and feed the world. The main way the WWF is tackling this problem is by
reducing food waste, by doing this they can help feed a global population and meet global
food security needs. Educating people is also another way they are tackling this issue, by
educating people about this we can produce food better and more efficiently while also
consuming food more wisely so that we have the product to meet the demand. The last
issue the WWF is dealing with is the newest issue they have added to the list of main issues,
and it’s the issue I am tackling in my campaign and that’s climate, their goal is to create a
climate resilient and zero carbon world, powered by renewable energy. The main thing they
are doing to achieve this goal is by standing by the Paris Climate Agreement, one of their
main bases of operation is in the USA and so despite the US leaving this agreement the WWF
are working with multiple states to keep the promise of the agreement going in the US.
They are also working with local communities and governments to prepare them for the
changing world due to climate change, this could be to build defences against the stronger
natural disasters that are building up, and studying how peoples responses to climate
change affect local ecosystems. Another main thing the WWF are doing is to reduce
emissions from deforestation which links to the forest issue, by stopping deforestation then
CO2 can be absorbed by the trees to help contribute to the zero carbon goal. All of those
strategies to help combat climate change helps me design and make my campaign, and
using what I have learned now I can use facts and statistics to back up my climate change
campaign.
Facts and figures: WWF – Climate Change
These are some of the facts and figures I am going to be using for the campaign, the polar bears and penguins
are going to be mascots for my campaign so finding some facts about them on WWF is great while the
spending one is to reassure the population where their donation money is going. The majority of my sources
will be from the WWF website as they are trusted and I am ‘working’ with them so it’s only fitting that I use
their research for my campaign.

All of those strategies to help combat climate change helps me design and make my campaign, and using what I have learned now I can use facts and statistics to back up my climate change campaign.
  • 7. Facts and figures: WWF – Climate Change These are some of the facts and figures I am going to be using for the campaign, the polar bears and penguins are going to be mascots for my campaign so finding some facts about them on WWF is great while the spending one is to reassure the population where their donation money is going. The majority of my sources will be from the WWF website as they are trusted and I am ‘working’ with them so it’s only fitting that I use their research for my campaign.
