The target audiences for the media product RPM are car enthusiasts who enjoy films like Fast and Furious that feature illegal street racing. This includes groups like "Piston Heads" and "Car Enthusiasts". The film also targets teenage audiences who enjoy rebellious portrayals and can relate to characters hanging out in gangs and acting tough, as well as left-wing viewers who would feel sympathetic to the female protagonist using illegal acts to prove her independence.
1. Who Would be the
audience for your media
product?
By Simran Kumar
2. • My target audience would be : People who value
and have a passion for cars.
• One group of audience’s that specifically target
our media product is: ‘Piston Heads’ and ‘Car
Enthusiasts’
• People who have an excitement and a passion
would definitely Enjoy watching RPM- Our film
title. As it is centred around cars and illegal street
racing.
• The would enjoy media texts such as:' Top Gear’
and Films like ‘Fast and Furious'. People would
enjoy these as it may reflect what they do on day-
to day basis and there hobbies for cars i.e.: speed
racing, has desires towards fast/new cars.
3. We decided to
challenge the
stereotype that ”
women can’t drive”
and included a female
in our film, but also
made her the main
character to prove that
women are good or if
not better drivers than
men. Women prefer
media texts such as:
‘Tomb Raider’ As
women who watch
programmes like
“Tomb Raider”,”Salt,
are quite strong willed
and independent and
are againt people
being sexist when it
comes to gender.
4. In the film industry it is portrayed
that the men are more powerful and
dominant and in films like: ‘Mission
Impossible’ and ‘Fast and Furious 5’
Therefore they would mainly take
the lead role. As from this males
would like these media texts
because they enjoy fast paced
action packed films and also would
enjoy RMP. As the males are quite
macho and misbehaved in the
media texts and relate to some of
the males in real life. As some
males value being “MACHO” and
“well built” and who saves the day /
women.
5. • We targeted “Left Wing” viewers.
• Left Wing are people are the Liberal Party and the
believe in evolving and believe that their
community is based on ethics, also they believe that
equality does exist.
• They also believe that people who break the law
aren’t necessarily evil but a victim of a bad
circumstance.
• Left Wing Viewers enjoy texts such as: “The
Guardian”, “The West Wing”, and “The Rise of the
Cobra” because they offer values and opinions that
the viewer agrees with and they are not biased.
• Left Wing Audiences would watch RPM as they
would feel sympathetic towards the female character
(zara) as she choose the illegal way of trying to
prove herself that she can be independent from her
male dominated family and society. They would
argue that instead of zara committing a crime and
being evil she is standing up for herself and her
equal rights and instead of being a criminal she is
simply a victim of a bad circumstance.
6. Teenagers are another group of audiences for our media product.
Teenagers would enjoy media texts like: Kidulthood or
Eastenders.A majority of teenagers would enjoy these texts as
they can relate to a lot of the things portrayed about them in
comparison to the media/news. Teenagers are quite rebellious,
hang out in gangs, like acting tough, therefore teenagers would
enjoy watching RPM, as zara is quite rebellious but quite cool at
the same time as her driving skills display amazing skills and at
the same time being popular amongst the illegal street drivers.
