CULTURE

Culture is not an
individual
phenomenon, but it is
the product of society.
It develops in the
society through social
interaction.

All the elements of culture
grows as a result of
accumulation. Each
generation preserve the old
culture and we add something
new in it. We can say that
each generation changes,
refines and defines culture.
As society evolves, these
changes are passed to next
generation.

The significance of culture
lies in the meaning it hold
for people. Different
cultures assign different
meanings to symbols.
Meaning is not inherent in
symbol, it is given by the
people.

E.g :- value system is
interlinked with morality,
customs, beliefs and

Classification of Culture
MATERIAL CULTURE:-
It refers to buildings, vehicles, tools, dresses, etc.
Non-Material Culture :-
It relates to faiths, beliefs, stereotypes, prejudices,
taboos, attitudes, bodies of knowledge, etc.
Universal Culture :-
It is generally accepted and respected by the society. E.g. –
economic system.
Alternative aspect of culture :-
In this individual have choices or certain permissive rights. E.g. :-
every culture demand legal marriage but individual have the choice to
have registered marriage or custom marriage.
Specialist aspect of culture :-
It involve the process of differentiation . E.g. :- preparation for different
professions as doctor, teacher, etc.
