This document defines and provides examples of three verbals: gerunds, infinitives, and participles. Gerunds are verbs ending in "-ing" that function as nouns. Infinitives are verbs preceded by "to" that can function as anything but a verb or preposition. Participles are verbs ending in "-ed", "-ing", or "-d" that function as adjectives. The document concludes by asking the reader to identify the parts of speech in sample sentences.

4. Participle
• Verb + d, ed, or ing that is now an
adjective.
• The man DRESSED in black is the robber.
• The woman WEARING the blue dress is
my teacher.
• WALKING through the park, I saw a bear.
• He is a LIVING legend.
• GASPING frantically, she told of the terror.
