About the
Spotlight Artist
Each month we illustrate our Spotlight package with a series of works from an accomplished artist.
We hope that the lively and cerebral creations of these photographers, painters, and installation
artists will infuse our pages with additional energy and intelligence to amplify what are often
complex and abstract concepts. This month we showcase the "rayographs" of Man
Ray, the modernist giant.
Born in Philadelphia, Ray moved to Paris in 1921, where he experimented with painting,
filmmaking, sculpture, and, of course, photography. He created his rayographs by placing objects
directly onto photosensitive material and exposing them to light.

The Age of "Scientific Management"
In the last two decades of the 19th century, the U.S. was shifting–uneasily–from a loosely connected
world of small towns, small businesses, and agriculture to an industrialized network of cities,
factories, and large companies linked by rail. A rising middle class was professionalizing–early
incarnations of the American Medical Association and the American
Bar Association date from this era–and mounting a progressive push against corrupt political bosses
and the finance capitalists, who were busy consolidating industries such as oil and steel in the best
robberbaron style.
Progressives claimed special wisdom rooted in science and captured in processes. Frederick Taylor,
who wrote that "the best management is a true science, resting upon clearly defined laws, rules, and
principles," clearly counted himself in their camp
(fans such as Louis Brandeis and Ida Tarbell agreed).
His stated goal was the "maximum prosperity for the employer, coupled with the maximum
prosperity for each employee," through "a far more equal division of the responsibility between the
management and the workmen." Translation (lest the reader overestimate Taylor's respect for
workers' potential

Agricultural Climate Impact Assessment For Wheat Industry
Agricultural Climate Impact Assessment for Wheat Industry in Western Australia
Sonam Gyeltshen
Student ID: 551839
Rationale
Wheat is an important cereal crop of Western Australia with about 7 MT of production in a rain–fed
system across 4 Million hectares of land, and accounting for about 70% of total cereal production.
However, it is believed that wheat production is affected by changes in climatic variables of rainfall,
temperature, and other extreme weather events. Therefore, the assessment of impact of climate
change is essential generally to understand the overall risk of climate change to bio–physical and
socio–economic systems, but specifically to understand the impact of climate change on wheat
production, and eventually develop proper adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Introduction
Climate impact assessment is an important exercise in order to systematically understand the risk of
climate change to bio–physical and socio–economic systems and thereby to develop proper and
timely adaptation and mitigation strategies. Similarly, IPCC defines Climate impact assessment as
an assessment of climate change impacts on an inclusive, unbiased, open and apparent basis the
scientific, technical, and socio–economic relevant to understanding the risk of human–induced
climate change, its potential impacts, and options for adaptation and mitigation (Kerr, Siddique, &
Delane, 1992).
Various methods of assessing the climate change impacts have been deployed since the

Personality Theories
Personality Theories
Almost everyday we describe and assess the personalities of the people around us. Whether we
realize it or not, these daily musings on how and why people behave as they do are similar to what
personality psychologists do. Personality psychology looks at the patterns of thoughts, feelings, and
behavior that make a person unique. Some of the best known theories in psychology are devoted to
the subject of personality.

The psychoanalytic view holds that there are inner forces outside of your awareness that are
directing your behavior. For example, a psychoanalyst might say that James misspoke due to
unresolved feelings for his ex or perhaps because of misgivings about his new relationship.
The founder of psychoanalytic theory was Sigmund Freud. While his theories were considered
shocking at the time and continue to create debate and controversy, his work had a profound
influence on a number of disciplines, including psychology, sociology, anthropology, literature, and
art.
The term psychoanalysis is used to refer to many aspects of Freud's work and research, including
Freudian therapy and the research methodology he used to develop his theories. Freud relied heavily
upon his observations and case studies of his patients when he formed his theory of personality
development.
Before we can understand Freud 's theory of personality, we must first understand his view of how
the mind is organized.
According to Freud, the mind can be divided into two main parts:
1. The conscious mind includes everything that we are aware of. This is the aspect of our mental
processing that we can think and talk about rationally. A part of this includes our memory, which is
not always part of consciousness but can be retrieved easily at any time and brought into our
awareness. Freud called this ordinary memory the preconscious.
2. The unconscious mind

Analysis Of ' The Grand Budapest Hotel '

An auteur director is viewed as prime mover in creative filmmaking, whose work is considered to
have a distinctive style and innovative. Wes Anderson exemplifies the concept of auteurism due to
his personal influence, and artistic control in his movies. His films feature a continuity of technical
aspects with similar themes of familial drama and disgruntlement. From his well–composed mise en
scene to classic pan shots, his style has surely become an acclaimed signature. The Grand Budapest
Hotel, The Darjeeling Limited, and The Royal Tenenbaums are chosen from Anderson's filmography
to show that the use of these features has remained constant since his earliest work.
Anderson is known for his quirky style. When people, especially filmgoers see a movie that has
distinguishing color palette and perfect symmetry that's aesthetically pleasing, they would know it's
his. Since The Grand Budapest Hotel is a story within a story, the color provides a distinction
between one period to another and gives more meaning to the film.
The story begins with an older Author played by Tom Wilkinson telling the tale on how he gets his
inspiration for his book which is also named The Grand Budapest Hotel. Then the younger version
of the author, played by Jude Law who meets Monsieur Zero Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham) was
shown. Zero meets the author and tells the tale on how he became the hotel's owner. In the film,

Identity And True Identity In The Movie 'Finding Forrester'
Expository Essay
In everyone's there is your character and your identity. Some people choose to express their true
identity and true self, others hide their intentions and attitude to protect themselves. Their actions to
hide their personality could have been possibly decided by experiences or lifestyles. In the movie
Finding Forrester, the character Jamal Wallace is a 16 year old African American boy from the
Bronx. Where Jamal is from success in academics is not important and is not a necessity. In order to
merge into the norm Jamal purposing flunks his grades to not expose his talent of literacy. While
playing basketball Jamal is dared by his friends to break into an apartment that overlooks the courts.
That night he broke in he was caught by the owner of the apartment William Forrester, as he dashed
out he dropped his bag. The next day his bag was tossed at him as he crossed the street to the courts.
Later that day he noticed his writing was corrected and marked with errors. Since that point on
Jamal and William worked together to expand and exploit Jamal's gift. In the movie Finding
Forrester, lifestyles and experiences shape people's outside character, instead of exploiting their true
selves. Different characters find different mechanisms to hide their true selves to avoid reactions. In
the movie Finding Forrester the main character Jamal Wallace, a 16 year old African American kid
from the Bronx is challenged. During his time attending a public school in the Bronx,

Milos Forman's Amadeus
Mohammed alqarni Milos Forman's "Amadeus" is one of the most hazardous bets a producer has
taken in quite a while – a rich film about Mozart that challenges to be anarchic and saucy, yet still
gains the significance of disaster. This motion picture is in no way like the bleak instructive
representations we're accustomed to seeing about the Great Composers, who appear to be
cobwebbed profundities overloaded with the weight of virtuoso. This is Mozart as an eighteenth–
century Bruce Springsteen, but (here is the virtuoso of the motion picture) there is nothing shoddy or
unworthy about the approach. "Amadeus" is not just about as much fun as you're probably going to
have with a motion picture, it additionally is exasperatingly valid. Reality enters

Marketing Introduction
Marketing into
To make a product appeal to the right person, a marketer would start by segmenting the market, and
then target a single segment or a group of segments. Market segmentation is segmenting markets
into homogenous groups of consumers, with every group reacting in a different ways to the
marketing mix. Market segments should be created in that way that difference in buyer behaviour
within each segment is as small as possible. This will hopefully ensure every segment can be
targeted using the marketing mix.
Organisations do this as they know people have different buying behaviours. Mass marketing is used
less now as companies look to target groups that they can meet the needs of best. Also known as the

Similarities Between Scarface And The Godfather

person. Arrogant, violent and very frank, assuring to Sosa that the only thing he has in this world is
his word and his "balls". Tony is the survivor that has no qualms on killing other people if it can
guarantee money and food. His ruthlessness will eventually land him a position in Frank Lopez's
drug cartel and will steadily make a name in the Miami underworld. He also developed a liking to
Frank's mistress, Elvira. With his excessive push to expand, he eventually gunned down Frank and
took Elvira, and started building his own empire. Living in a lavish lifestyle, he would eventually
develop paranoia and would develop a strong addiction to cocaine. With his steady decline, he

Comparison
The film has a notable distinction in its characters. The Godfather has the honor of having a more
refined set of characters in regards of execution and the distribution of traits, in comparison.
Scarface has characters that are spread thin, with the few having the most concentration of traits.
Tony, Manny, Gina, Elvira and Sosa are the only notable characters that have concentrated traits.
Michael and Tony's personalities are polar opposites. Michael is a law–abiding citizen, aspiring to
live a normal life with his girlfriend, Kay. He was only dragged into family affairs after the
attempted hit on his father, Vito. He still strives to be normal even when he is now a criminal yet the
sequels suggest he failed. Tony is readily a criminal, since his backround is easily identified. He was
keen on living the American Dream in any way possible. He dealt with drugs, killed people and
started to use his own products. A wise criminal once said that it was bad to use and get addicted to
your own product. Tony shows it with a

with images of the attacks, the world's media were broadcasting press briefings lauding the

General Schwarzkopf, in Senate Committee hearings following the war, described that he was often

order to understand the environment against which fielded forces were arrayed. However, there were
many issues in the employment of intelligence in this manner, including timeliness, security caveat

Most biography movies usually are told from the point of view of a person whose name is in the
title. The movie Amadeus by Milos Forman is about the famous musician and composer, Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart, but the movie is not told from his point of view but from his rival, Antonio Salieri
played by F. Murray Abraham. The story is set in 1823 as the elderly Antonio Salieri is placed in a
lunatic asylum for attempting suicide. He launches into a long confession about his relationship with
Mozart which set the main story to 1781. Amadeus is a period drama film. The main idea about this

Murray Abraham) is placed in a lunatic asylum for attempting suicide. He is visited by Father

about his relationship with Mozart. Salieri begins his career as a devout, God fearing man who
believes his success and talent as a composer are God's reward, for his piety. Mozart arrives in
Vienna to perform for the prince–Archbishop of Salzburg. Salieri goes to the performance hoping to
meet Mozart. He is convinced that Mozart's genius must be a gift from God. He secretly observes
Mozart but was shock to discover that rather than the Mozart he imagined, Mozart is in fact boorish,
irreverent, and lewd. In 1781, when Mozart meets the emperor, Salieri presents Mozart with a
"March of welcome". After hearing the march only once, Mozart plays it from memory, tactlessly
critiques it, and improvise a variation. This leads to his 1786 opera "The marriage of Figaro". Faced
with Mozart's genius, Salieri realises his own mediocrity and suffers is much that he naturally

Amadeus Essay 2
Outline THESIS: Amadeus is a fictionalized account of the relationship between Mozart and Salieri.
Mozart is shown as an exceptional musician considered today by some to be the greatest of all
geniuses in his field having knocked out compositions for assorted solo instruments, opera and
symphonic orchestras by the time he was thirty–five years old. Salieri was a talented composer and,
had Mozart never lived, he albums might have been available for sale today. I. The film Amadeus is
fairly accurate although it exaggerates and oversimplifies and appears to take greatest warrant in the
area which is central to the film, the relationship between Mozart and Salieri. II. The relationships of

However, the composer himself declared, "People make a mistake who think my art has come easily
to me. Nobody has devoted so much time and thought to composition as I. There is not a famous
master whose music I have not studied over and over" (Schure). The creative, artistic character,
especially in its extraordinary or genius form, is complex and contradictory. In order to create a
more dramatic and perhaps more simple story, author Peter Shaffer and director Milos Forman chose
to emphasize the wilder aspects of Mozart and the more controlled aspects of Salieri. The
complexities of both men, apparent in more historically–based accounts, are forfeited to the drama
of this exaggerated and simplified contrast. The choice produced an exciting and popular film
(which is amazing itself for the life of two classical composers dead two hundred years), but an
inaccurate historical portrait of those men. The film's portrayal of the two composers as being so
completely foreign to one another is to fail to see that there is indeed in every artist both an active
heart and mind. One dominates, but the other must be engaged. The heart must inspire the mind, but
the mind must channel the heart. Mozart was no more all heart than Salieri was all mind, but that is
the extreme contrast the film tries to portray. Both Mozart and Salieri were influenced and

Essay On The Grand Chicago Hotel
Wes Anderson has truly outdone himself with his 100 minute long masterpiece "The Grand
Budapest Hotel". The film, set around the 1930 's, depicts an epic adventure filled with eye–catching
aesthetics, extravagant characters, deadpan humour and witty dialogue in a dollhouse–like world.
The director's precise measurements of drama, deadpan comedy and engaging narrative paired with
the mesmerising voice overs of Jude Law, as The Author, and F. Murray Abraham, as the older Zero
Moustafa, make for a wonderfully bubbling, yet subtly melancholic film. It is truly a must see film.
The film follows the events that occur after the unfortunate death of Madame D. (Tilda Swinton) a
rich, aristocratic elderly woman, who frequents the Grand Budapest Hotel and Ski Resort in the
war–torn and fictional 'Republic of Zubrowka '. She was a close companion of the meticulous,
poetry–loving concierge, Monsieur Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes). He prides himself on keeping the
prestigious title of the Grand Budapest alive. Madame D. has spent the majority of her elderly life at
Gustave's hotel, and was kept under his care. The two were overly fond of each other, thus leading
speculations to Gustave. When it is revealed that in the rich Madame D.'s will, she had bequeathed a
priceless painting, titled 'Boy with Apple ', to Gustave disarray and outrage arise. Such emotions not
only circulate around the nature of their relationship, but also around why Madame D. committed

HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT :
INDIVIDUAL FUNCTIONING/GROUP FUNCTIONING

WINTER – 2012
The general concept of Social Work is defined by human behavior and the environment. These two
components are the tools that give meaning to the profession and narrate its functions in the broadest
terms. Behavior is a characteristic of living things which is often identified with life itself. Modern
day Social Work practice dates back to several social movements of the 19th century and beyond
and to two very prominent perspectives on the origin of human problems: those aspects that viewed
the 'person' as the central point for change and those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such transformed information is later utilized as the need arises. Bodily functions that have to do
with memory have many features. Stimuli receptions are interpreted through Sensations and
Perceptions by the human body and these are responded to selectively by the individual based on the
manner and nature of the reception. Behavior is modified with the reception of stimuli thereby
altering perception. These activities have a profound effect on the results of learning experiences
and they contribute to the eventual behavioral response that is the end result. Behavioral
conditioning is the eventual result of the acquired learning process which is used in determining the
information received by the brain that is in turn utilized to bring about the desired response.
Apparently there are two types of behavioral conditioning – Classical and Instrumental
conditioning.
Classical Conditioning is the systematic response produced by a neutral stimulus that is always
connected to the acquisition of a reward or the avoidance of punishment and negative behavior. The
occurrence of a stimulus is confirmation that Operant or Instrumental conditioning is active.
Behavior that earns reward has the tendency to continue, whilst the behavior that results in
punishment has the tendency to be discontinued or stopped immediately. Some behavior is
reinforced when certain conditions exist:

Amadeus, the Movie Essay
Amadeus begins with an attempted suicide by composer Antonio Salieri, who is overcome with guilt
about supposedly killing Mozart. His life is saved by his aids and he is sent to what looks like a
mental hospital, where a priest is sent to council him. The whole story is told through the eyes of
Salieri on his death bed, confessing to his priest. The whole movie takes place in Vienna, Austria.
Besides the first few scenes where Mozart is seen as a child, the story begins in 1782 when Mozart
is the age of 26; the story being told by Salieri takes place around 1825, near his death. Amadeus is
primarily set in the noble class, and doesn't do the best job portraying the poor side of life. For the
noble's of course living conditions are fine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However Mozart never sees through his deception and thinks of his as a loyal friend and colleague
to the end. Constanze Mozart, played by Elizabeth Berridge, is the wife of Mozart. She is by far the
most sensible in the relationship. Throughout the whole movie she is concerned of Mozart's
frivolous spending and at some points, refusal to do work that really pays. She is also extremely
concerned of Mozart's physical and mental well–being. She is also the only one who can stand up to
Mozart's father for him, calling him lazy and unappreciative. I was much more fond of the
symphony music played by Mozart, although there was not much featured in the movie. I am not a
big fan of Opera's to begin with, so I am a little biased when judging them. I found Don Giovanni
and the Opera written alongside Salieri more preferential; there was more substance and feeling in
those. The opera Figaro to be extremely boring; apparently so did Joseph II. It was extremely slow
with the same dark melody the whole piece. I most enjoyed the first Opera commissioned by
Emperor Joseph II. The whole piece was brilliantly put together, I can't imagine how someone could
put all those notes together and make is sound like it did. It reminds me of listening to Jimi Hendrix
on the guitar, or Bach on the Harpsichord. Mozart was an extremely childish, immature person; yet
one of the most talented musicians of all time.

Critical thinking of The Grand Budapest Hotel and American Beauty
The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of the most spectacular films of the 21st century. The movie is
interesting and beautifully shot comedy directed by Wes Anderson. The Grand Budapest Hotel
consists of a prologue, five parts, and an epilogue. The film features many successful actors, but the
main story revolves around an interesting narration of Zero Moustafa (played by F Murray
Abraham, but embodied in younger years by Tony Revolori), who encounters the Author (starred by
Tom Wilkinson and Jude Law). Zero reveals the secret of how he became the owner of the Grand
Budapest's Hotel. The film draws attention to such themes as crime, love, the family revolts, prison
breaks, police action, and their possible consequences, thus transferring the audience into the world
of the characters and providing the lesson about moral values for life.
Foremost, it is important to single out the energetic character of Monsieur Gustave (played by Ralph
Fiennes), a concierge of the Grand Budapest's Hotel. Monsieur Gustave has mentored the lobby boy,
an orphan Zero. Thus, the concierge became a teacher and an advisor of a young boy with a refugee
past. Gustave saved Zero from police with the help of old acquaintance. On the other hand, the
lobby boy helps Gustave in his funny flee from prison. Zero sends him small hammers concealed
inside the cakes

The American Civil War : The United States
The American Civil War, known in the United States as simply the Civil War as well as by other
sectional names, was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865 to determine the survival of the Union or
independence for the Confederacy. Of the 34 states that existed in January 1861, seven Southern
slave states individually declared their secession from the United States and went on to form the
Confederate States of America. The Confederacy, often simply called the South, grew to include
eleven states, although they claimed thirteen states and additional western territories. The
Confederacy was never recognized diplomatically by a foreign country. The states that remained
loyal were known as the Union or the North. The war had its origin in the fractious issue of slavery,
especially the expansion of slavery into the western territories. After four years of combat, which
left over 600,000 Union and Confederate soldiers dead and destroyed much of the South 's
infrastructure, the Confederacy collapsed and slavery was abolished. Then began the Reconstruction
and the processes of restoring national unity and guaranteeing civil rights to the freed slaves.
The American Civil War was one of the earliest true industrial wars. Railroads, the telegraph,
steamships, and mass–produced weapons were employed extensively. The mobilization of civilian
factories, mines, shipyards, banks, transportation and food supplies all foreshadowed the impact of

projects were privately financed projects. Public–sector projects were gov– erned by multiple

state of California were required to pay the prevailing wage rates on construction work greater than

Revisiting, Revising, and Reviving America's Founding Era
Most Americans nowadays like to think that they have the American Revolution pretty well figured
out. Conventional wisdom starts the saga in 1763 when Britain, saddled with debt at the close of the
Seven Years' War, levied new taxes that prompted her American colonists to resist, and then to
reject, imperial rule. Having declared independence and defeated the British, American patriots then
drafted the constitution that remains the law of the land to this day. With George Washington's
inauguration as president in 1789, the story has a happy ending and the curtain comes down. This
time–honored script renders the road from colonies to nation clear, smooth, and straight, with
familiar landmarks along the way, from Boston's Massacre and Tea ... Show more content on

They believed that these years were the most important in American history, indeed the most
important in the history of the world. "'Tis not the affair of a city, a country, a province, or a
kingdom, but of a continent––of at least one eighth part of the habitable globe," insisted Thomas
Paine in January 1776, urging Americans toward independence. "'Tis not the concern of a day, a
year, or an age; posterity are virtually involved in the contest, and will be more or less affected, even
to the end of time, by the proceedings now." Fifty years later Jefferson, reflecting on the meaning of
July 4, 1776, echoed Paine on that moment's significance. "May it be to the world, what I believe it
will be, (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all), the signal of arousing men to burst
the chains under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves,
and assume the blessings of self–government." Thanks to the Revolution, Jefferson concluded, "All

Homelessness Is A Year Round Issue
Homelessness is a year round issue that needs to be addressed. People that are homeless will most
likely commit to crime, because it is almost impossible for homeless people get a job. Think about
it, a job application requires a home address, phone number to get in contact with and social
insurance number. Those are all things a homeless person lacks. The origin of homelessness can be
traced all the way back to colonial America. Homelessness arise during the American Revolution
and Civil War. It is still an ongoing issue today in the City of Philadelphia. It has become a problem
today due to factors such as, unemployment, insecure jobs, low incomes, addictions, and mental
issues.
There are specific statistics that illustrates the magnitude of the issue. According to Penn Current,

Synopsis Of The Film 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin'
From Rags To Riches One of the upmost best gangster movies of its time has to be Scarface, it's the
type of movie to keep you glued to your seat from start to finish. Although an older movie, people as
young as their 20's still seem to know about it and have watched this movie at some point in their

scene to scene. Like every good gangster movie, it has the usual fundamentals loyalty, cartel
business, and betrayal. A good comparison would be the movie by 50 cent "Get Rich or Die Tryin'"

Herbert Spencer

|Biography: Herbert Spencer |
Herbert Spencer (1820–1903) was an English philosopher, scientist, engineer, and political
economist. In his day his works were important in popularizing the concept of evolution and played
an important part in the development of economics, political science, biology, and philosophy.
Herbert Spencer was born in Derby on April 27, 1820. His childhood, described in An
Autobiography (1904), reflected the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His views concerning a science of sociology are elaborated in two major works, Descriptive
Sociology (published in 17 volumes, 1873–1934) and The Study of Sociology (1873).
Spencer was particularly influential in the United States until the turn of the century. According to
William Graham Sumner, who used The Study of Sociology as a text in the first sociology course
offered in an American university, it was Spencer's work which established sociology as a separate,
legitimate field in its own right. Spencer's demand that historians present the "natural history of
society," in order to furnish data for a comparative sociology, is also credited with inspiring James
Harvey Robinson and the others involved in the writing of the New History in the United States.
Economic Theories
Social philosophy in the latter part of the 19th century in the United States was dominated by
Spencer. His ideas of laissez–faire and the survival of the fittest by natural selection fitted very well
into an age of rapid expansion and ruthless business competition. Spencer provided businessmen
with the reassuring notion that what they were doing was not just ruthless self–interest but was a
natural law operating in nature and human society. Not only was competition in harmony with
nature, but it was also in the interest of the general welfare and progress. Social Darwinism, or

Wes Anderson is one of the greatest illusion–makers of all time. He doesn't create movies but entire
worlds with his distinct sensibility and dazzling visual style. The 48 year old Texan is one of the few

The film is a colorful and delicious confection to watch that at times you may have the urge to lick

Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory Of Personality
Introduction:
World is made up of human beings and all human beings are same in some ways. They have the
same human nature, share a common level of humanity. They have similar human minds and bodies,
thoughts and feelings of their own. Yet in many ways, each human being is unique and different. No
two are truly alike, no two have the similar experience in life and the same perspectives on life and
every human has individual characteristics. Somewhere between the two – common humanity and
unique individuality – lies Personality.
Personality is about the several ways of a human being, how each variation is present for same
themes. How the human nature manifests different styles of feeling, thinking, behaving and acting in
situations, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of the individual.
 Maturity (65–till death): During this stage a individual needs to feel the sense of fulfillment and
achievement which leads to wisdom, else it leads to regret, bitterness and despair.
2. Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality:
Psychoanalytic theory is based on the concept that we are not even aware of all forces controlling
us. Sigmund Freud had made certain studies regarding the theory to arrive at the conclusion that that
human behavior was the result of interaction of three elements viz– id, ego and the super ego. His
study included deviant or irrational behavior of small number of patients and also drew observations
from everyday life like expression of humor, slips tongue etc and was able to reach the conclusion
that the mind has three sub–systems– the conscious, preconscious and the unconscious.
Conscious mind: It involves thoughts which one is aware of.
Preconscious mind: It involves thoughts which one is not immediately aware of but it can be
brought to conscious attention easily and

The direction and dialogue she was given were vague and not intriguing. The audience was left
wanting more and there were many plot holes in their relationship that were not fulfilled by the end
of the film. Paquin did what she could with the character and certainly left us wanting to see more
which I did appreciate, I am upset with the direction team for not focusing more on her. Equally
important, the conflict of Finding Forrester added a deeper meaning and interest to the already
beautifully directed characters. The boys from the Bronx are aroused by the man (Forrester) that

only to provide good information for decision making, but also to ensure that management and
employees are motivated to work towards the goals of the organization: that they have the same

Thesis Statement: Christianity Is Superior to Judaism
Judaism vs. Christianity
Name
Thesis Statement: Christian Religion is superior to Judaism because the author of the faith, Jesus is
superior to the angels, founding fathers, and religious institutions within the doctrine of Judaism.
Introduction
Jesus represents different views in relation to the doctrine of Christianity and Judaism. According to
Christianity doctrine, Jesus Christ represents the Son of God who came to deliver man from
manifestation of sins. Jesus Christ is one with the creator in relation to the teachings of Christianity.
He is the Messiah whom founding fathers of Judaism proclaimed would come to wash away the sins
of humanity. According to Judaism, Jesus represents a false Messiah playing a secondary role to the
founding fathers of the faith and religious institutions. According to the gospel by John, Jesus was
there at the beginning in the form of the word. Jesus was with God and considered Creator (God). In
understanding the relationship of Jesus and humanity, it is crucial to determine both divine and fully
human nature of the Son of God. As the Son of Man, Jesus was born of Mary and Joseph. These
represent his human roots in the process of delivering human beings from their sins. As the Son of
God, he represents one of the trinity beliefs within the teachings of Christianity.
Through his ordeal with humankind, Jesus adopts both identities to reveal himself. These identities
allow Jesus Christ to appear as the Messiah, Savior, Healer, Friend, Son

Depression : The Egyptian Remedies
A very brief history of depression People have struggled with depression for a very long time. There
is much useful information about depression that has been passed on since the beginning of recorded
history. Depression is as old as time. Over five thousand years ago, depression appeared in the
hieroglyphics, paintings, and statue of pharaonic Egypt (Okasha & Okasha, 2000). At that time,
people with depression were not stigmatized (Okasha, 2001). That was a big plus. People are more
likely to address depression if they view it as a natural bit interruptive phase of living rather than as
something shameful. The Egyptian remedies included sleep, journey, and dance. In ancient Greece,
Hippocrates– also known as the father of medicine– found that depression had many symptoms,
such as nameless fears, irritability, loss of appetite, despondency, and sleepnessness (Radden, 2000;
Simon, 1978). He thought that people were born with a vulnerability for depression and that
stressful circumstances evoke it. A person's biology can influence his/her thoughts and behavior.
Also emotions affect the course of a disease. By modern standards many of Hippocrates'
observations seem on target. He prescribed diet and exercise as first line treatment against
depression. In the eleventh century, Arabian physician Avicenna connected depression to physical
and psychological causes (Radden, 2000). He was among the first to say that you can think your
way into depression and think your way out.

History of Management Thought Revision
Part Two
The Scientific Management Era
The purpose of Part Two is to begin with the work of Frederick W. Taylor and trace developments in
management thought in Great Britain, Europe, Japan, and the U.S.A. up to about 1929. Taylor is the
focal point, but we will see his followers as well as developments in personnel management and the
behavioral sciences. Henri Fayol and Max Weber will be discussed, although their main influence
came later, and we will conclude with an overview of the influence of scientific management in its
environment.

5. Unions –– Taylor felt that unions wanted to base payment on class of work, not performance; thus

6. "First–Class" worker –– this was Taylor 's idea that everyone was best or first class at some type
of work. There should be a match between a person 's abilities and their job placement.
7. "Functional Foreman" –– Taylor had the idea that knowledge was authority. Supervisors could not
know everything about the planning and performance of the work; therefore functional specialists

Defining Organisational Behaviour
"The study of the structure, functioning and performance of organisations, and the behaviour of
groups and individuals within them" Derek Pugh's (1971) This influential definition of
organisational behaviour was by Derek Pugh in 1971. Human behaviour is the way people act and
react to situations and circumstances, each individual is different, therefore it is essential for an
organisation to study human behaviour in order to understand the workforce. By observing and
understanding each individual the organisation would improve performance; organisational
behaviour can be considered as the key area of management. Organisations study organisational

ID which represents Identity is our basic instinct; we have no control over this. An example would
be when we are determined to win in competitions etc. Our ego has a negative impact on our
behaviour due to the need to win at all costs. When people have made up their mind on a plan of
action they may become aggressive, may even foul other opponents or resort to forms of cheating
just to 'win'. The super ego however looks upon what is considered acceptable behaviour therefore a
form of social conscience. This last component in personality is present to control inappropriate
behaviour such as aggression etc. Without this study of organisational behaviour there would be no
sense of order. Freud's theory categorises aspects which determine the way people act at work. A
Person's conscious has an impact on the way they behave and the decisions they make the reason it
is important for organisations to be aware of how an employee will react to changes and decisions
which may impact on his/her job, ethics and beliefs. In understanding employees better,
organisations need to thoroughly study personality in order to recruit and maintain employees
effectively by understanding the way they think, feel and react to any given situation. Organisations
when recruiting ask questions that provide a better insight into candidates' personalities in order to
select the best candidate for the vacant job, this is very important in the recruiting process because if

Benefits Of Legalizing Medical Marijuana
For many centuries in ancient India cannabis was a major component in religious practices as well
as in medical practices. Most parts of life incorporated cannabis of some form. Marijuana is a
psychoactive drug made from the cannabis plant. It is sometimes used as a recreational drug by a
few individuals, medical ailments and for spiritual purposes as well. The key element in marijuana is
the delta–9–tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This psychoactive component is found in the leaves of the
plant (Ethan B Russo, 2013). This essay will demonstrates the advantages of legalising medical
marijuana such as treatment for pain relief, nausea and vomiting. Then it will examine
disadvantages which includes impaired cognition, issues with memory retention, intoxication and
heightened heart rate and blood pressure.
Medicinal marijuana is best known for its ability to act as a pain killer. It proves its usefulness
especially during extreme pain that may be caused by spinal injuries or arthritis. In an New York
article published in 2005, Dr. Shipley said, "In healthy volunteers, the drug caused no psychoactive
effects. But there has been only one small trial showing that the drug provided better pain relief than
a placebo." It was also reported that "New drugs are not expected to reach the market for a few
years, and many may fail or have unacceptable side effects. Still, the void left by Vioxx has buoyed

The Family As A Social Institution
In order for society to meet the basic social needs of its members, social institutions, which are not

defined as a fundamental component of this organization in which individuals, occupying defined
statues, are "regulated by social norms, public opinion, law and religion" (Amato 2004, p.961).
Social institutions are meant to meet people's basic needs and enable the society to survive. Because

The definition historically is "people related by blood, marriage, or adoption". The U.S. Census
defines family as "a group of people united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption and

marriage and divorce, defines family as "at least 2 adult persons of opposite sex who reside together,
have division of labor, engage in economic and social exchange, share many things in common,
have parental relations with their children and the children have sibling relations".
Sociologist William F. Ogburn argues that the industrialization and urbanization of society has
stripped the family of many of the traditional functions. Due to this factor alone, the family's role
has been diminished to something strictly psychological, and that is to socialize children, and to
provide emotional support for family members. Talcott Parsons defined the family as serving a basic

C. Comparison
The film has a notable distinction in its characters. The Godfather has the honor of having a more

Tony is readily a criminal, since his background is easily identified. He

We hope that the lively and cerebral creations of these photographers, painters, and installation artists will infuse our pages with additional energy and intelligence to amplify what are often complex and abstract concepts. This month we showcase the "rayographs" of Man Ray, the modernist giant. Born in Philadelphia, Ray moved to Paris in 1921, where he experimented with painting, filmmaking, sculpture, and, of course, photography. He created his rayographs by placing objects directly onto photosensitive material and exposing them to light. View more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (See the sidebar "Saving Ourselves from Global Provincialism.") The Age of "Scientific Management" In the last two decades of the 19th century, the U.S. was shifting–uneasily–from a loosely connected world of small towns, small businesses, and agriculture to an industrialized network of cities, factories, and large companies linked by rail. A rising middle class was professionalizing–early incarnations of the American Medical Association and the American Bar Association date from this era–and mounting a progressive push against corrupt political bosses and the finance capitalists, who were busy consolidating industries such as oil and steel in the best robberbaron style. Progressives claimed special wisdom rooted in science and captured in processes. Frederick Taylor, who wrote that "the best management is a true science, resting upon clearly defined laws, rules, and principles," clearly counted himself in their camp (fans such as Louis Brandeis and Ida Tarbell agreed). His stated goal was the "maximum prosperity for the employer, coupled with the maximum prosperity for each employee," through "a far more equal division of the responsibility between the management and the workmen." Agricultural Climate Impact Assessment For Wheat Industry Agricultural Climate Impact Assessment for Wheat Industry in Western Australia Sonam Gyeltshen Student ID: 551839 Rationale Wheat is an important cereal crop of Western Australia with about 7 MT of production in a rain–fed system across 4 Million hectares of land, and accounting for about 70% of total cereal production. However, it is believed that wheat production is affected by changes in climatic variables of rainfall, temperature, and other extreme weather events. Therefore, the assessment of impact of climate change is essential generally to understand the overall risk of climate change to bio–physical and socio–economic systems, but specifically to understand the impact of climate change on wheat production, and eventually develop proper adaptation and mitigation strategies. Introduction Climate impact assessment is an important exercise in order to systematically understand the risk of climate change to bio–physical and socio–economic systems and thereby to develop proper and timely adaptation and mitigation strategies. Similarly, IPCC defines Climate impact assessment as an assessment of climate change impacts on an inclusive, unbiased, open and apparent basis the scientific, technical, and socio–economic relevant to understanding the risk of human–induced climate change, its potential impacts, and options for adaptation and mitigation (Kerr, Siddique, & Delane, 1992). Personality psychology looks at the patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behavior that make a person unique. Some of the best known theories in psychology are devoted to the subject of personality. The psychoanalytic view holds that there are inner forces outside of your awareness that are directing your behavior. For example, a psychoanalyst might say that James misspoke due to unresolved feelings for his ex or perhaps because of misgivings about his new relationship. The founder of psychoanalytic theory was Sigmund Freud. While his theories were considered shocking at the time and continue to create debate and controversy, his work had a profound influence on a number of disciplines, including psychology, sociology, anthropology, literature, and art. The term psychoanalysis is used to refer to many aspects of Freud's work and research, including Freudian therapy and the research methodology he used to develop his theories. Freud relied heavily upon his observations and case studies of his patients when he formed his theory of personality development. Before we can understand Freud 's theory of personality, we must first understand his view of how the mind is organized. According to Freud, the mind can be divided into two main parts: 1. The conscious mind includes everything that we are aware of. This is the aspect of our mental processing that we can think and talk about rationally. A part of this includes our memory, which is not always part of consciousness but can be retrieved easily at any time and brought into our awareness. Freud called this ordinary memory the preconscious. 2. The unconscious mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Darjeeling Limited, and The Royal Tenenbaums are chosen from Anderson's filmography to show that the use of these features has remained constant since his earliest work. Anderson is known for his quirky style. When people, especially filmgoers see a movie that has distinguishing color palette and perfect symmetry that's aesthetically pleasing, they would know it's his. Since The Grand Budapest Hotel is a story within a story, the color provides a distinction between one period to another and gives more meaning to the film. The story begins with an older Author played by Tom Wilkinson telling the tale on how he gets his inspiration for his book which is also named The Grand Budapest Hotel. Then the younger version of the author, played by Jude Law who meets Monsieur Zero Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham) was shown. Zero meets the author and tells the tale on how he became the hotel's owner. Market segmentation is segmenting markets into homogenous groups of consumers, with every group reacting in a different ways to the marketing mix. Market segments should be created in that way that difference in buyer behaviour within each segment is as small as possible. This will hopefully ensure every segment can be targeted using the marketing mix. Organisations do this as they know people have different buying behaviours. Mozart is shown as an exceptional musician considered today by some to be the greatest of all geniuses in his field having knocked out compositions for assorted solo instruments, opera and symphonic orchestras by the time he was thirty–five years old. Salieri was a talented composer and, had Mozart never lived, he albums might have been available for sale today. I. Nobody has devoted so much time and thought to composition as I. There is not a famous master whose music I have not studied over and over" (Schure). The creative, artistic character, especially in its extraordinary or genius form, is complex and contradictory. In order to create a more dramatic and perhaps more simple story, author Peter Shaffer and director Milos Forman chose to emphasize the wilder aspects of Mozart and the more controlled aspects of Salieri. The complexities of both men, apparent in more historically–based accounts, are forfeited to the drama of this exaggerated and simplified contrast. The choice produced an exciting and popular film (which is amazing itself for the life of two classical composers dead two hundred years), but an inaccurate historical portrait of those men. The film's portrayal of the two composers as being so completely foreign to one another is to fail to see that there is indeed in every artist both an active heart and mind. One dominates, but the other must be engaged. The heart must inspire the mind, but the mind must channel the heart. The film, set around the 1930 's, depicts an epic adventure filled with eye–catching aesthetics, extravagant characters, deadpan humour and witty dialogue in a dollhouse–like world. The director's precise measurements of drama, deadpan comedy and engaging narrative paired with the mesmerising voice overs of Jude Law, as The Author, and F. Murray Abraham, as the older Zero Moustafa, make for a wonderfully bubbling, yet subtly melancholic film. It is truly a must see film. Classical Conditioning is the systematic response produced by a neutral stimulus that is always connected to the acquisition of a reward or the avoidance of punishment and negative behavior. The occurrence of a stimulus is confirmation that Operant or Instrumental conditioning is active. Behavior that earns reward has the tendency to continue, whilst the behavior that results in punishment has the tendency to be discontinued or stopped immediately. Critical Thinking Of The Grand Budapest Hotel Doug Weinriech Professor Tumminello The Art of Theatrical Cinema March 12, 2016 Critical thinking of The Grand Budapest Hotel and American Beauty The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of the most spectacular films of the 21st century. The movie is interesting and beautifully shot comedy directed by Wes Anderson. The Grand Budapest Hotel consists of a prologue, five parts, and an epilogue. The film features many successful actors, but the main story revolves around an interesting narration of Zero Moustafa (played by F Murray Abraham, but embodied in younger years by Tony Revolori), who encounters the Author (starred by Tom Wilkinson and Jude Law). Zero reveals the secret of how he became the owner of the Grand Budapest's Hotel. The film draws attention to such themes as crime, love, the family revolts, prison breaks, police action, and their possible consequences, thus transferring the audience into the world of the characters and providing the lesson about moral values for life. Foremost, it is important to single out the energetic character of Monsieur Gustave (played by Ralph Fiennes), a concierge of the Grand Budapest's Hotel. Monsieur Gustave has mentored the lobby boy, an orphan Zero. Thus, the concierge became a teacher and an advisor of a young boy with a refugee past. Gustave saved Zero from police with the help of old acquaintance. On the other hand, the lobby boy helps Gustave in his funny flee from prison. The American Civil War : The United States The American Civil War, known in the United States as simply the Civil War as well as by other sectional names, was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865 to determine the survival of the Union or independence for the Confederacy. Of the 34 states that existed in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the United States and went on to form the Confederate States of America. The Confederacy, often simply called the South, grew to include eleven states, although they claimed thirteen states and additional western territories. The Confederacy was never recognized diplomatically by a foreign country. The states that remained loyal were known as the Union or the North. The war had its origin in the fractious issue of slavery, especially the expansion of slavery into the western territories. After four years of combat, which left over 600,000 Union and Confederate soldiers dead and destroyed much of the South 's infrastructure, the Confederacy collapsed and slavery was abolished. Then began the Reconstruction and the processes of restoring national unity and guaranteeing civil rights to the freed slaves. The American Civil War was one of the earliest true industrial wars. Railroads, the telegraph, steamships, and mass–produced weapons were employed extensively. The mobilization of civilian factories, mines, shipyards, banks, transportation and food supplies all foreshadowed the impact of industrialization in World War I. It remains the ... His views concerning a science of sociology are elaborated in two major works, Descriptive Sociology (published in 17 volumes, 1873–1934) and The Study of Sociology (1873). Spencer was particularly influential in the United States until the turn of the century. According to William Graham Sumner, who used The Study of Sociology as a text in the first sociology course offered in an American university, it was Spencer's work which established sociology as a separate, legitimate field in its own right. Spencer's demand that historians present the "natural history of society," in order to furnish data for a comparative sociology, is also credited with inspiring James Harvey Robinson and the others involved in the writing of the New History in the United States. Economic Theories Social philosophy in the latter part of the 19th century in the United States was dominated by Spencer. His ideas of laissez–faire and the survival of the fittest by natural selection fitted very well into an age of rapid expansion and ruthless business competition. Spencer provided businessmen with the reassuring notion that what they were doing was not just ruthless self–interest but was a natural law operating in nature and human society. Not only was competition in harmony with nature, but it was also in the interest of the general welfare and progress. Social Darwinism, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They have the same human nature, share a common level of humanity. They have similar human minds and bodies, thoughts and feelings of their own. Yet in many ways, each human being is unique and different. No two are truly alike, no two have the similar experience in life and the same perspectives on life and every human has individual characteristics. The audience was left wanting more and there were many plot holes in their relationship that were not fulfilled by the end of the film. Paquin did what she could with the character and certainly left us wanting to see more which I did appreciate, I am upset with the direction team for not focusing more on her. Equally important, the conflict of Finding Forrester added a deeper meaning and interest to the already beautifully directed characters. The boys from the Bronx are aroused by the man (Forrester) that watches them from his high–rise window. Jamal sneaks into his home but loses his backpack while escaping. Thesis Statement: Christianity Is Superior to Judaism Judaism vs. Christianity Name Thesis Statement: Christian Religion is superior to Judaism because the author of the faith, Jesus is superior to the angels, founding fathers, and religious institutions within the doctrine of Judaism. Introduction Jesus represents different views in relation to the doctrine of Christianity and Judaism. According to Christianity doctrine, Jesus Christ represents the Son of God who came to deliver man from manifestation of sins. Jesus Christ is one with the creator in relation to the teachings of Christianity. He is the Messiah whom founding fathers of Judaism proclaimed would come to wash away the sins of humanity. According to Judaism, Jesus represents a false Messiah playing a secondary role to the founding fathers of the faith and religious institutions. According to the gospel by John, Jesus was there at the beginning in the form of the word. Jesus was with God and considered Creator (God). In understanding the relationship of Jesus and humanity, it is crucial to determine both divine and fully human nature of the Son of God. As the Son of Man, Jesus was born of Mary and Joseph. These represent his human roots in the process of delivering human beings from their sins. As the Son of God, he represents one of the trinity beliefs within the teachings of Christianity. Through his ordeal with humankind, Jesus adopts both identities to reveal himself. These identities allow Jesus Christ to appear as the Messiah, Savior, Healer, Friend, Son ... • 65. Depression : The Egyptian Remedies A very brief history of depression People have struggled with depression for a very long time. There is much useful information about depression that has been passed on since the beginning of recorded history. Depression is as old as time. Over five thousand years ago, depression appeared in the hieroglyphics, paintings, and statue of pharaonic Egypt (Okasha & Okasha, 2000). At that time, people with depression were not stigmatized (Okasha, 2001). That was a big plus. People are more likely to address depression if they view it as a natural bit interruptive phase of living rather than as something shameful. The Egyptian remedies included sleep, journey, and dance. In ancient Greece, Hippocrates– also known as the father of medicine– found that depression had many symptoms, such as nameless fears, irritability, loss of appetite, despondency, and sleepnessness (Radden, 2000; Simon, 1978). He thought that people were born with a vulnerability for depression and that stressful circumstances evoke it. A person's biology can influence his/her thoughts and behavior. Also emotions affect the course of a disease. By modern standards many of Hippocrates' observations seem on target. He prescribed diet and exercise as first line treatment against depression. In the eleventh century, Arabian physician Avicenna connected depression to physical and psychological causes (Radden, 2000). He was among the first to say that you can think your way into depression and think your way out. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The U.S. Census defines family as "a group of people united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption and constituting a single household". Sociologist William F. Ogburn argues that the industrialization and urbanization of society has stripped the family of many of the traditional functions. Due to this factor alone, the family's role has been diminished to something strictly psychological, and that is to socialize children, and to provide emotional support for family members. Talcott Parsons defined the family as serving a basic function for society–at–large that included sexual behavior norms and values.
