2. Who is my target audience?
• The target audience for the Post-Apocalyptic Horror genre is mostly between the ages
of 17-25 with the gender appealing to males slightly more than females as this subgenre usually contains what this certain demographic enjoys such as violence and
terror. This signifies that this genre would feature mature themes for a mature audience
which is the tone that is needed in order to create a successful trailer.
• The psychographics of my target audience are sociable, heavy internet users which is
usually what represents this age demographic. They bare also sporty and doing
activities with their friends such as go to the cinema. This psychographic also regularly
visits the cinema so they are regularly watching films of the horror genre which is what I
need to target in order to make my trailer appealing to a young group of people.
• What my target audience finds most enjoyable about the Post-Apocalyptic horror genre
are the scares for example jump scares. They also find the feeling of being scared
appealing as they enjoy being in the edge of their seat which is crucial in order in order
to appeal to the interests of my target audience.
3. What do my target audience find
appealing?
• Conventions are what my target audience find appealing at it represents familiarity of
the genre thus becoming more appealing. Examples of what they want the most are
scares, isolated environments and survivalist characters. Conventions are also the
most effective way to appeal to my target audience so these should be included in my
film trailer.
• My target audience also find the outnumbered and against all odds scenario very
appealing as it connotes fear and tension. The protagonists also become more
sympathetic towards the target audience thus creating a bond and wanting them to
survive rather than the usual cliché of the characters just being there to be killed off.
• The types of films that my target audience finds most appealing are films like 28 Days
Later and the ‘Dead’ film series as they all contain the formulaic structure of people
trying to survive in a deadly and dangerous environment. The films also contain weaker
protagonists against an even bigger and deadly threat which creates the sense of fear
that is most appealing to the demographic.
