Les Canadiennes Case Study
Despite their Clarkson Cup loss to the Calgary Inferno on Sunday, the Les Canadiennes (formerly
known as the Montreal Stars) had an excellent 2015–16, including winning the Commissioner's
Trophy for the best regular–season records for the fifth time in seven years, playing their first ever
outdoor game in professional women's hockey against the Boston Pride in December, and ending
their season with a .875 points percentage and sitting in first place with 42 points.
On September 24th, the Montreal Canadiens announced that the team would become an affiliate of
the Habs, leading to their name and jersey change to resemble those as the guys in Montreal. This
was a huge step in the NHL and in women's hockey, as the move helped bring more attention ...

If that wasn't enough, she won the Collégial AA Rookie of the Year in 2008, was awarded the

well as has an NCAA career total of 114 points.
Her youth coach, Dan D'Astoli said of her in the Montreal Gazette, "I coached for a long time.
When someone asks me about defence, I say one of the best defensemen I ever had was a girl, the
other one was Marc Vlasic. Lauriane was a girl that developed with the boys. At that time, you saw
that she was that good. Positionally, she didn't have the strength of the boys, but they still couldn't
beat her because she was just very solid."
Lauriane is a very underrated defensive player, as are many of the women who play a defensive role
in the hockey world, and her great passing skills could have definitely been used to help make some
great plays for the Habs.
Here's an idea of the power play units could look like if these recalls could have happened back in

Praise Of Bill Peters, Coach Of The Carolina Hurricanes
In Praise of Bill Peters
Now firmly into his third season as a head coach in the NHL, Bill Peters, coach of the Carolina
Hurricanes, has a lot of work in front of him to get this team into post–season contention. Through
his first two years with the organization, Peters is still yet to participate in the playoffs. In fact, it has
been seven years since Carolina last saw the playoffs.
Peters ' current lack of post–season success shouldn 't be an immediate point for concern, as he
came into the team during a major recession in terms of team talent. Most notably offensive stars
Alexander Semin and Eric Staal both had major drops in terms of point production during Peters'
first two seasons, both see their way out of Carolina.
It appears though for this season the pieces are beginning to fall into place for Peters' vision of this
team. Their level of play over the past few games has been as high as it has ever been in recent
years, as the team as a whole is able to play effectively in all ends.
This quick turnover time shouldn 't come as a shock to anyone given Bill Peters outstanding
performances behind the bench for other teams.
Spokane Chiefs
Bill Peters' first major coaching job came in Major Junior as an assistant coach for the Spokane
Chiefs of the WHL. The Three Hills native would serve there as an assistant under then head coach,
and current Toronto head coach Mike Babcock from 1996–2000, helping Spokane reach a 100 point
season and playoff final appearance in Babcock

Detroit Red Wings Research Paper
The tone of the famous song by Queen– "We are the Champions" still rings in my ears. As
defending champions, the Detroit Red Wings had plenty of motivation to win a second straight title.
The Washington Capitals will battle the Detroit Red Wings for the Stanley Cup. My emotions were
running high back on June 16th, 1998 during game four of the Championship Finals. Watching this
game with my father will easily go down as my greatest game. Just before the game started at
Verizon Center in Washington D.C. Tuesday night. I pondered to myself why we desired to retain
the Stanley Cup. The dedication comes from what happened to the Red Wings after winning last
season. Unfortunately, a car accident injured two players. The team wore a patch honoring ... Show

I had my "broom" ready for a sweep. It was the opportune time to win and complete the goal they
wanted to achieve. As the game began, my dad and I were ready for them to produce history. It took
about half way through the first period for the Red Wings to score. We were thrilled to notice a
strong commencement, although it was long from over. As the second period was underway, the Red
Wings scored again. The score was 2–0 already after a few minutes in the period. However, the
Capitals didn't wish to give up that easily. They scored around half way through the period. The
tension in the room was starting to return. It didn't take long for the Red Wings to score again,
making it 3–1 at the end of the second period. We were only 20 minutes away from winning the
game and keeping the Stanley Cup. After the third period began, the Red Wings scored! Confidence
was growing that we were sweeping the Capitals. The realization that we were pushing toward
reality was exhilarating. The countdown was ticking down quickly and the loud celebration began.
My dad and I were beyond excited to view this happening, even if you were keeping the rest of the
house awake. History was made and we continued watching the into the early morning

Bobby Orr Influence On Hockey
Another one of the most influential hockey players of all time is Bobby Orr. Orr was born in 1948 in
Parry Sound, Canada (Orr). Bucko McDonald, a former NHL defenseman in the 30's and 40's,
coached the young Bobby. He believed he could be a great defenseman with lots of speed and high
stick skills as well. This turned out to be one of the beet moves for Bobby's career, as Orr played ten
seasons in the NHL. He played nine years with the Bruins, and his final year in Chicago. He wished
to play longer if it wasn't for his knees giving out on him, as he injured them both early in his NHL
career. Nevertheless, Orr was arguably called the greatest defenseman of all time for what he did in
both sides of the ice. first off, Bobby Orr showed that he is one of the most influential hockey
players in the NHL from his career statistics and records. "He came into his own two years later, in

"Orr radically altered the style of hockey by introducing defensemen to the offensive side of the

nature of hockey. A new style of play, an offensive minded defenseman. He could go coast to coast
in the rink and score, maneuvering through the whole other team. This was not the only way Orr
impacted on the game, scoring one of the best goals of all time to win the Stanley Cup. Orr literally
went flying as he scored the game winning goal for the Bruins, a goal to be remembered forever. A

The Toothpaste Factory Got The Top People
Dedication To my parents, who gave me life and taught me the meaning of it. Both by accident.
Introduction Once upon a time, a toothpaste factory had a problem. They sometimes shipped empty
boxes without the tube inside. This was caused by the way the production line was set up, and
people with experience in designing production lines will tell you how difficult it is to have
everything happen with timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect 100% of
the time. Small variations in the environment (which can't be controlled in a cost–effective fashion)
mean you must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed across the line so customers all
the way down to the supermarket don't get angry and buy another product instead. Understanding
how important that was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top people in the company
together and they decided to start a new project in which they would hire an external engineering
company to solve their empty boxes problem since their engineering department was already too
stretched to take on any extra effort. The project followed the usual process: budget and project
sponsor allocated, RFP and third–parties selected. Six months (and $8 million) later, they had a
fantastic solution – on time, on budget, high quality and everyone in the project had a great time.
They solved the problem by using high–tech precision scales that would sound a bell and flash
lights whenever a toothpaste box would weigh less

The Historical Significance Of The National Hockey
Maurice Richard historical significance in Canada had to do considerable deal with Hockey. Hockey
is "closer to a religion than a simple sporting pastime" in Canada. It is "a unifying force" in a nation
where one state wanted to separate from the rest of Canada. Nevertheless hockey has a major impact
on the social, economic, cultural and political realms of Canada. In the 2014 Olympics, an alcohol
law in bars was ignored when Canada was in the finals for the gold medal. In addition to People
drinking at 5 o'clock in the morning, which would have been frowned upon in many social circles in
any other circumstances. Maurice is "credited with raising the National Hockey League to major
sport status", he simply "sold the game" to French Canadians post great depression. You could say
he stopped the National Hockey league from fading as teams were dropping every year out of the
League due to being unable to be successful financially.
Maurice "Rocket" Richard was an iconic hockey figure across Canada as "Not a single Canadian
has not carried Maurice Richard in his pockets at one time or another" as his number 9 on the back
of the Canadian Journey Series of the five dollar bill. He was not just a hockey figure in Québec.
Also, The La Presse, a Newspaper in Montreal revealed on October 24, 2004 that Maurice was the

Ice Hockey History
Hockey is a sport that's been around for almost 200 years now, it's a competitive sport that's played
all across our world, and it has plenty of history behind it. Anyways, if you ask anyone in Canada
about it, they would most likely be able to tell you a few things about it. When people think of
Canada, Hockey can often come to mind. The sport developed and grew in Canada, created by
students (soldiers) of King College School, to a small village in Nova Scotia, named Windsor. The
game used to be a field game, called Hurley, and soon enough they decided to take it to the ice,
where it earned the name "Ice Hurley". Over time, the game finally earned a new name, as we know
it as of today, Ice Hockey. At this time, it was really beginning to ... Show more content on

As many people know, it's a very difficult sport to play, and if you play it consider it a talent, even a
gift, its known as one of the hardest games to play in the world. The sport can also help with many
traits, such as reflexes, stamina, hand eye coordination and more. Otherwise, many people across
the world have tons of passion for the sport, lots of citizens all across the world put their life into it,
it's their JOB, and it's well worth it, because the people who do that make millions a year, which is
crazy... especially just for playing a game, but in front of 20,000 paying fans of course. "Some parts
of our world revolve around the game, without it, there would be an enormous missing piece." So
that can explain how it has affected our world, also because it's been around for about 200 years

Game 4 Of The Western Conference Finals
Game 4 OT Thriller It was Saturday in Chicago, around 8 in the morning, that seemed to be moving
as fast as a turtle crawling a marathon. Shooting the breeze outside with my father, I was quietly
pondering a question. After staring into the distance, gazing at the alluring pine trees on the horizon
glistened by the scorching sun's rays, my dad broke the long silence. He said,"son, why are you so
quiet? You seem to be in deep thought." Quietly I responded, "You know that game 4 of the Western
Conference Finals is tonight, right?" The look on his face was not promising, he seemed to know
exactly what I was going to ask. He quickly snarled, "You're kidding me, I fly the entire family out

how proud I was of Evie make this big step and accepting Christ.
The drive from Chicago to Arlington Heights was almost an hour long. The whole time in the car I
couldn't keep my mind off the Chicago Blackhawks hockey game. How many times would the
opportunity arise that I would be in Chicago and the Blackhawks playing in the Stanley Cup semi–
finals? There had to be a way we could find tickets for less than what my dad said they cost. An idea
hit me out of no where, I knew my uncle Larry was going to attend the Baptism, after all he is a
season ticket holder. I couldn't be selfish and just run up to him and ask if he had any extra tickets.
My entire family was going to be at the church and I wanted to be sure and enjoy the little time with
them since I no longer live in Chicago. Plus, the day wasn't about me or the game, it was all about
my cousin Evie accepting Jesus. As my family and I walked into the Church we all immediately
went to Evie and congratulated her on the big decision. After greeting with more relatives I found
my seat and waited patiently for the Baptism to begin. Out of no where I felt a presence behind me.

The Americans suspended operations in the fall of 1942, leaving the
NHL with just six teams. Despite various efforts to initiate expansion after the war, including
attempted restarts of the Maroons and Americans franchises, the league's membership would remain
at six teams for the next twenty–five seasons.
By the 1960s, however, it was becoming obvious that if the NHL did not expand, a rival league
would take its place. In the
United States the American Football League was starting to become very successful at the time,
convincing many people that a rival hockey league would also succeed. In particular, the Western
Hockey League had moved into a number of major Pacific Coast markets, and had accumulated
strong rosters with talent barred from the static rosters of the NHL. This, plus the prospect of
television contracts, convinced the six owners to go ahead with expansion.

Arguments For The New National Hockey League Rules
Arguments for the New National Hockey League Rules
On July 22, 2005, the National Hockey League Board of Governors approved a number of changes
to the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). These rule changes were imposed to place a
purposeful need on the League to emphasize competition, players' skills, and an entertainment value
to the game of ice hockey. These changes were reported, formulated, and brought to the Board of
Governors by a Competition Committee. The Competition Committee was comprised of four
general managers, four hockey players, and one owner. The general managers chosen were: Don
Waddell of Atlanta, Kevin Lowe of Edmonton, Bob Gainey of Montreal, and David Poile of
Nashville. The NHL players on the committee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is true for most hockey fans. They like to see a lot of action in an NHL game shootout to
determine the winner of a game. This new rule will keep many people from turning off their
televisions at home and keep the average fan interested. The Fewer Stoppages, Increased "Flow"
rule states, "Passes from behind the defensive blue line to the attacking blue line will be considered
legal. The center red line will be ignored for the purpose of the two–line pass," as stated on the NHL
FAQ's webpage. (http://www.nhl.com/nhlhq/cba/rules_changes072205.html) Before the change of
this rule, a player was not allowed to make a pass from behind the defensive blue line to the
attacking blue line without a stoppage of play. The ability to make a two–line pass gives teams an
easier opportunity for transitions in the neutral zone. Whereas before, a player had to make short
cookie–cutter passes through the neutral zone and not many scoring opportunities were available.
The opportunity for odd man rushes is more evident also. Under this new rule, players and fans are
more likely to see 2–1 without the red line. This puts a well–needed pressure on defensemen, and a
defensive player will show more of his skating and passing talents. "It will increase the value of the
mobile defenseman," stated the respectable General Manager of the Buffalo Sabers, Darcy Regier.
It has taken some time to adapt to the new NHL rules, both watching the game and playing the

Ice Hockey
I. History
Around 1820 the sport started to catch on among the visitors to the frozen lakes. People had played
field hockey and another game in Europe for years, but this new version of the old sport required
that it's players put on skates. Using metal blades that could be strapped to their boots, the players
would cut branches from trees to use as sticks; for pucks they would use round pieces of cork or
wooden balls. In the 1870s, each team was made up of nine players skating at the same time, and
body checking was not permitted. There were no substitutions, so players were expected to play the
entire 60 minutes of the game.
By 1880, the game had begun to grow into the game we know today; teams were ... Show more

Play begins with a face–off, when the referee drops the puck between the opposing centers. Unlike
most sports, player substitutions occur during play. A goal is scored when the puck is driven into the
opponent's goal. A player who scores three goals in one game is said to have scored a hat trick.
Games are divided into three 20–minute periods, and, if the score is tied, they proceed into an
overtime period that varies under different sets of rules.
Penalties are assessed for various infractions, and the offending player is sent to a penalty box for
two minutes for a minor infraction and five minutes for a major one. Teams may not substitute for
their penalized players during the penalty, except during a misconduct penalty, which usually
requires a player to spend ten minutes in the penalty box. No team can be at more than a two–player
disadvantage at a time, and a team with a one– or two–player advantage is said to have the power
play.

Detroit Red Wings Case Study
In Hockey Town, there's only one team to root for –– the Detroit Red Wings. The team currently

The New York Islanders are one of only four teams who, as of tomorrow morning, will have two
games remaining on their 2015–16 schedule, as snow forced the postponement of games in
Brooklyn and Washington back in January.
The Islanders, after facing the Buffalo Sabres and super–rookie Jack Eichel tomorrow night, will
close things out with a grudge match against the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday – a game that could
have huge playoff implications for the Flyers as they chase the final wild card spot open in the

New York had clinched a playoff berth and there was just no logical reason to risk either of those
important players further aggravating their ailments.
Two possibilities still exist heading into the weekend for New York and each present a different set
of challenges moving forward. They can either finish 3rd in the Metropolitan division and play the
Pittsburgh Penguins, which would keep them in the division bracket moving forward or they could
still finish in the first wild card position and face the Florida Panthers in the Atlantic division
bracket.
The best part? Their rivals, the New York Rangers, will have a lot to say in which bracket the
Islanders find themselves in.
If the Rangers pick up two points of any kind in their game against the Detroit Red WIngs
(12:30pm), the Islanders would need to win three of their final four points to finish ahead of the
Rangers and meet the Penguins.
If the Rangers lose in overtime or a shootout, the Isles would need two of four points to play the
Penguins.
If the Rangers lose in regulation, one point is all it would take to set up a rematch with Sidney

Analysis Of The Article 'One Glowing Moment'
The first article I choose was "One Glowing Moment". It was about how back in 1996 Fox Sports
decided to launch technology that would make hockey a much more interesting game to watch
because people at the time with a basic standard picture on their television were having problems
keeping track of the puck. The way they would do this was with this FoxTrax technology they
would put a blue fuzz ball around the puck when it moving along the ice than when a player shoots
it there would be a red streak that follows it. The main reason that I selected this article was because
it reminded me of what the PGA & LPGA does in golf when a player hits the ball with a system
they called name Trackman. The only difference it's that Trackman covered a variety

Essay The NHL Lockout
The NHL Lockout
The rookie salary cap was gutted when teams took advantage of a loophole, adding lucrative
"bonus" payments on top of the "maximum" base salary. It began in 1997, when the Boston Bruins
gave two rookies, Joe Thornton and Sergei Samsonov, the maximum salary allowed under the
rookie cap. But those contracts also had bonus clauses that would roughly triple the base salary if
certain criteria – such as statistical benchmarks – were met. From then on, all high draft picks began
demanding and receiving similar contracts. The multimillion dollar offers made to a few free agents
served to "raise the bar," leading to comparable salary increases for comparable players. This
movement was led by a few wealthy teams, like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The league's latest American television contract pays no money up front for broadcast rights. Many
teams, especially the newer ones, have also seen a decline in ticket sales.
In its most recent offer, made February 2, 2005, the NHL owners proposed a six–year deal. Its main
features are:
League–Wide Salary Cap
A formula will see the players receive 53–to–55 per cent of all NHL revenues.
This is the deal–killer. The players want no part of any such restriction. The percentage formula is
especially unattractive now, because short–term league revenues will likely drop because of the
lengthy lockout.
Team Salary Cap
A team payroll will be no less than $32 million and no more than $42 million benefits included.
This range will be adjusted every year, ensuring that players receive 53–to–55 per cent of league
revenues.
Possible Salary Cap for Individual Players
"The parties may have a mutual interest in negotiating over the establishment of an NHL maximum
salary for individual players. No specific amount is being proposed."
Salary Cap for "Entry Level" Players
In his first four years in the NHL, a player will earn no more than $850,000 per year in salary and
signing bonuses. He can be offered additional incentives: Up to $250,000 in performance bonuses
(for goals, assists, etc.) and up to $500,000 for finishing among the top five in voting for major
awards. Few players qualify

Minnesota Wild Contribution To The NHL
The Minnesota Wild have made a major contribution to the NHL. The Minnesota Wild franchise
was founded in 1997 and took place in the 2000 NHL entry draft. The wild played their first season
in the 2000–2001 season. They had a rough start, which is regular throughout teams in their first
year in the league. They had a record of 25–39–13 and didn't qualify for the playoffs. They barely
made progress in their second year and didn't have any major progress until their third year. In the
2002–2003 season, they made it to the conference finals after beating the Colorado Avalanche 4–3
and the Vancouver Canucks in game seven (4–3). They eventually lost to the Mighty Ducks of

The wild made the playoffs in 2013–2014 and won against the Colorado Avalanche in game seven
to go on to lose to the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round. The next year they had another
successful season and beat the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the playoffs to move on and lose
to the Blackhawks again. In the 2015–2016 season, they made the playoffs by a slim amount and
lost to the Dallas Stars in the first round 4–2. In the previous season, the Wild started out great and
mid–season broke their franchise record for longest winning streak only to have it broken by the
Columbus Blue Jackets. Ever since the loss, the wild had a lot of ups and downs for the rest of the
season before clinching the second seed in the playoffs that season. When they went to the playoffs
they lost to the St. Louis blues 4–1 in the first round. It was considered one of the biggest upsets in
the playoffs. Aside from the seasonal progress, we have not credited who got them there. The wild
have had a first round draft pick in every draft from when the team joined the league except the
2013 NHL Entry Draft. The biggest contributors to the team started with Marian Gaborik who was
selected number three overall in the team's first draft. He went on to score the first franchise goal
and lead the team in scoring the first two years. The other main contributors were Mikko Koivu who
is currently the captain and has played the most games out of any Wild players past or present. The
smaller helpers were Pierre–Marc Bouchard, Brent Burns, Nick Leddy, Mikael Granlund, Mathew
Dumba, and Joel Eriksson Ek. At the end of the day, you can look at the wild and either say this
team has had a great lifespan or say this team could've done so much better. Whichever one you

Soccer Descriptive Essay
As I put my black and gold jersey on, I thought of the outcome of tonight's game. Either the
Penguins come out as champions, or they are forced to game 7. I walked downstairs to put my shoes
on, and I saw my brother with his black and teal jersey on. We headed to the car. My mom was
already annoyed by how much my brother and I were fighting over who would win the intense
game. Finally, after a couple of minutes, we journeyed to the big game. After a long ride, we finally
entered the streets of Pittsburgh. We sensed the excitement and tense atmosphere of the city.
Everybody crawled the streets getting ready for the big game. When waited in line, it seemed like
the whole city tried to rush in. The line took about 45 minutes, but it seemed like hours. Finally, as
we went through security, we were dogs released from a cage. From the time we found our seats
until the beginning of the game, more and more people filled the massive arena. Many people filled
the seats up like sardines. When everybody arrived to my favorite place, we all waited for 8 o'clock,
the start of the game. By the time 8 o'clock came around the crowd already filled with excitement.
When it was time for the national anthem, everybody quieted down in order to respect the flag that
represents everything that allows us to be in that moment. The whole arena stood in silence as the
red, white, and blue banner flew over. When the words, "the home of the brave" filled the air,
everybody started to scream again.

Evaluation of Options
Option 1 refers to cut down the markup price of the computer and get top management informed

make Konig understand the importance of high quality product and reliability to get the bid and
make the future plant compete. Here the output is in terms of quality and hence customer
satisfaction is higher.
Option 2 suggests to compromise with the quality of the product. Because of less flexibility–
accuracy requirement of Konig, Computron can justify its machine by lowering the specifications so
that its production cost reduces and likewise reduce its cost price to win the bid. Here output is in

Gordie Howe And Wayne Gretzky
Both Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky have been very influential to the NHL and to the world. But
which is more influential than the other. Gordie Howe grew up in a hard working family with little
money. Growing up had had to battle through adversity on numerous occasions, including being cut
from the first travel hockey team he tried out for. He went from not being good enough to make a
kids team to arguably being the best player ever. Wayne Gretzky throughout his whole life was a
talented hockey player. During his youth he would play with kids that were 4 years older than him
because his own age was not enough competition. From when he was 4 to when he was 38, Wayne
Gretzky was always the best hockey player on the ice. Although both are a large influence in the
world, Gordie Howe was more influential than Wayne Gretzky. Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky
were influential through the charitable impacts. Wayne Gretzky has influenced the world through his
Wayne Gretzky foundation. The Wayne Gretzky foundation is beneficial to many groups. The

In Quebec City, Patrick Roy was born on October 5, 1965. His parents were doing very well in life.
His father was a great tennis player as well as an amateur baseball player. His mother was a
nationally ranked swimmer for her country. Patrick began his journey playing hockey at the age of
six years old. He never started out playing in the net but when the goalie on his local team got hurt,
Patrick said he would give it a try and never left that position ever since. An interesting fact was that
he loved it so much, at home, he would strap pillows to his legs using them as pads. He loved
playing goalie so much, he started playing that position for his local junior and midget hockey
leagues. Patrick Roy dropped out of school in the eleventh grade and with the help of his parents he
played in the Quebec junior league. He played for the team the Granby Bison's which didn't go so

and provide financial returns for their owners. The Stanley Cup was the most popular trophy
awarded for a century to North America's best hockey team. By the 1990's there was a shift from
pure hockey to a hockey experience with a variety of entertainment added to increase the appeal of
the game. To create exposure, new recruitments were also made. NHL's strength lied in its strong

with little exposure so with the right support and exposure they can grow their fan base
considerably. VALUE PROPOSITION Hockey is not a tangible product to increase the popularity

Starting from the top which we felt had the biggest impact on the company because communication
is one of the most essential components to running any business/relationship. As we noticed early in
the company's development the offices were pretty spread out because of the enormous amount of

Steve Yzerman: A Born Leader
On May 9th 1965 a leader was born, and that leader was Steve Yzerman. Yzerman was born in
Cranbrook, British Columbia. He began skating when he was a mere 3 years old, but was still a little
too young to play organized hockey with his older brother Mike, who was two years older. At age 5
Yzerman started playing organized ice hockey, but really couldn't skate all that well. In fact, his first
gino (goal) was scored because he had slipped up in front of the adversaries net and an opposing
defenseman bounced the puck off a teammate. Since Yzerman was the closest to the puck, he was
given credit for the goal. This was certainly not a foundation suitable for a legendary career.
As a young boy Yzerman played many different sports, but by age ten he gave up the other sports to
concentrate on hockey. He spent almost all his time on hockey and made it clear to people around
him that this was his one true passion. He progressed quickly and by the time young Steve was 14
years old he was playing tier two juniors with the Nepean Raiders in the Central Junior Hockey

Iginla was parallel to the right side of the net. His intention was to pass the puck across the crease. It

Vegas with 10 first–round picks in the Friday entry draft. Second, the Islanders really like Pelech
and how he developed this past season after overcoming thoracic outlet syndrome. At 22, they feel
he's too young to risk and has the potential to be more than just a third–pairing defenseman. Is he
better than de Haan at present? No, not even close. But the de Haan angle could be gamesmanship.
With de Haan a restricted free agent, all Snow has to do is qualify to retain the steady, shot blocking
defenseman's rights, which he will certainly do. Then he can negotiate when de Haan declines to
sign it and likely send it to arbitration. At that salary hearing, the Islanders can try to use the
argument that he is outside their top 5, even being left exposed for the just completed expansion
draft. I know they don't believe it, but hey, business is business. Lastly, it could be to drive up the
value of Travis Hamonic, which seems to be in question right now. Hamonic seems likely to move if
Snow is able to pull off a big trade for a top–six forward, and he's been in discussions with just
about every team who has one on the market. Matt Duchene, Jordan Eberle, Alex Galchenyuk being
the most prominent names mentioned but you can now add James Neal and James Van Reimsdyk to
the list. At the end of the day, the Islanders have

Les Canadiennes Case Study

  • 1. Les Canadiennes Case Study Despite their Clarkson Cup loss to the Calgary Inferno on Sunday, the Les Canadiennes (formerly known as the Montreal Stars) had an excellent 2015–16, including winning the Commissioner's Trophy for the best regular–season records for the fifth time in seven years, playing their first ever outdoor game in professional women's hockey against the Boston Pride in December, and ending their season with a .875 points percentage and sitting in first place with 42 points. On September 24th, the Montreal Canadiens announced that the team would become an affiliate of the Habs, leading to their name and jersey change to resemble those as the guys in Montreal. This was a huge step in the NHL and in women's hockey, as the move helped bring more attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If that wasn't enough, she won the Collégial AA Rookie of the Year in 2008, was awarded the Directorate Award for best defender in the 2008 IIHF Under 18 Women's World Championships, as well as has an NCAA career total of 114 points. Her youth coach, Dan D'Astoli said of her in the Montreal Gazette, "I coached for a long time. When someone asks me about defence, I say one of the best defensemen I ever had was a girl, the other one was Marc Vlasic. Lauriane was a girl that developed with the boys. At that time, you saw that she was that good. Positionally, she didn't have the strength of the boys, but they still couldn't beat her because she was just very solid." Lauriane is a very underrated defensive player, as are many of the women who play a defensive role in the hockey world, and her great passing skills could have definitely been used to help make some great plays for the Habs. Here's an idea of the power play units could look like if these recalls could have happened back in December: First PP ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Praise Of Bill Peters, Coach Of The Carolina Hurricanes In Praise of Bill Peters Now firmly into his third season as a head coach in the NHL, Bill Peters, coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, has a lot of work in front of him to get this team into post–season contention. Through his first two years with the organization, Peters is still yet to participate in the playoffs. In fact, it has been seven years since Carolina last saw the playoffs. Peters ' current lack of post–season success shouldn 't be an immediate point for concern, as he came into the team during a major recession in terms of team talent. Most notably offensive stars Alexander Semin and Eric Staal both had major drops in terms of point production during Peters' first two seasons, both see their way out of Carolina. It appears though for this season the pieces are beginning to fall into place for Peters' vision of this team. Their level of play over the past few games has been as high as it has ever been in recent years, as the team as a whole is able to play effectively in all ends. This quick turnover time shouldn 't come as a shock to anyone given Bill Peters outstanding performances behind the bench for other teams. Spokane Chiefs Bill Peters' first major coaching job came in Major Junior as an assistant coach for the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. The Three Hills native would serve there as an assistant under then head coach, and current Toronto head coach Mike Babcock from 1996–2000, helping Spokane reach a 100 point season and playoff final appearance in Babcock ... • 3. Detroit Red Wings Research Paper The tone of the famous song by Queen– "We are the Champions" still rings in my ears. As defending champions, the Detroit Red Wings had plenty of motivation to win a second straight title. The Washington Capitals will battle the Detroit Red Wings for the Stanley Cup. My emotions were running high back on June 16th, 1998 during game four of the Championship Finals. Watching this game with my father will easily go down as my greatest game. Just before the game started at Verizon Center in Washington D.C. Tuesday night. I pondered to myself why we desired to retain the Stanley Cup. The dedication comes from what happened to the Red Wings after winning last season. Unfortunately, a car accident injured two players. The team wore a patch honoring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had my "broom" ready for a sweep. It was the opportune time to win and complete the goal they wanted to achieve. As the game began, my dad and I were ready for them to produce history. It took about half way through the first period for the Red Wings to score. We were thrilled to notice a strong commencement, although it was long from over. As the second period was underway, the Red Wings scored again. The score was 2–0 already after a few minutes in the period. However, the Capitals didn't wish to give up that easily. They scored around half way through the period. The tension in the room was starting to return. It didn't take long for the Red Wings to score again, making it 3–1 at the end of the second period. We were only 20 minutes away from winning the game and keeping the Stanley Cup. After the third period began, the Red Wings scored! Confidence was growing that we were sweeping the Capitals. The realization that we were pushing toward reality was exhilarating. The countdown was ticking down quickly and the loud celebration began. My dad and I were beyond excited to view this happening, even if you were keeping the rest of the house awake. History was made and we continued watching the into the early morning ... Dating back to Sunday when Ben Harpur was resigned to the American Hockey League followed by Jack Rodewald signing an entry–level contract Tuesday, Jordan Murray was reassigned to Brampton of the ECHL Tuesday. Then Wednesday Rodewald and Chlapik would be recalled to Ottawa. With Rodewald, Chlapik, DiDomenico, and McCormick with Ottawa and Mike Blunden injured, The Belleville signed forward Justin Vaive to a PTO. • 5. Bobby Orr Influence On Hockey Another one of the most influential hockey players of all time is Bobby Orr. Orr was born in 1948 in Parry Sound, Canada (Orr). Bucko McDonald, a former NHL defenseman in the 30's and 40's, coached the young Bobby. He believed he could be a great defenseman with lots of speed and high stick skills as well. This turned out to be one of the beet moves for Bobby's career, as Orr played ten seasons in the NHL. He played nine years with the Bruins, and his final year in Chicago. He wished to play longer if it wasn't for his knees giving out on him, as he injured them both early in his NHL career. Nevertheless, Orr was arguably called the greatest defenseman of all time for what he did in both sides of the ice. first off, Bobby Orr showed that he is one of the most influential hockey players in the NHL from his career statistics and records. "He came into his own two years later, in 1969–70, becoming the only player to ever win all four major awards –– ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Orr radically altered the style of hockey by introducing defensemen to the offensive side of the game. A defenseman who scored goals, rushed the puck up ice, set up teammates with pinpoint passes. What a revolutionary concept." (Schwartz). This is true, like no other, Orr changed the nature of hockey. A new style of play, an offensive minded defenseman. He could go coast to coast in the rink and score, maneuvering through the whole other team. This was not the only way Orr impacted on the game, scoring one of the best goals of all time to win the Stanley Cup. Orr literally went flying as he scored the game winning goal for the Bruins, a goal to be remembered forever. A statue made of him soaring in the air outside of TD Garden, never to be forgotten. • 6. The Toothpaste Factory Got The Top People Dedication To my parents, who gave me life and taught me the meaning of it. Both by accident. Introduction Once upon a time, a toothpaste factory had a problem. They sometimes shipped empty boxes without the tube inside. This was caused by the way the production line was set up, and people with experience in designing production lines will tell you how difficult it is to have everything happen with timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect 100% of the time. Small variations in the environment (which can't be controlled in a cost–effective fashion) mean you must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed across the line so customers all the way down to the supermarket don't get angry and buy another product instead. Understanding how important that was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top people in the company together and they decided to start a new project in which they would hire an external engineering company to solve their empty boxes problem since their engineering department was already too stretched to take on any extra effort. The project followed the usual process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP and third–parties selected. Six months (and $8 million) later, they had a fantastic solution – on time, on budget, high quality and everyone in the project had a great time. They solved the problem by using high–tech precision scales that would sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box would weigh less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Historical Significance Of The National Hockey Maurice Richard historical significance in Canada had to do considerable deal with Hockey. Hockey is "closer to a religion than a simple sporting pastime" in Canada. It is "a unifying force" in a nation where one state wanted to separate from the rest of Canada. Nevertheless hockey has a major impact on the social, economic, cultural and political realms of Canada. In the 2014 Olympics, an alcohol law in bars was ignored when Canada was in the finals for the gold medal. In addition to People drinking at 5 o'clock in the morning, which would have been frowned upon in many social circles in any other circumstances. Maurice is "credited with raising the National Hockey League to major sport status", he simply "sold the game" to French Canadians post great depression. You could say he stopped the National Hockey league from fading as teams were dropping every year out of the League due to being unable to be successful financially. Maurice "Rocket" Richard was an iconic hockey figure across Canada as "Not a single Canadian has not carried Maurice Richard in his pockets at one time or another" as his number 9 on the back of the Canadian Journey Series of the five dollar bill. He was not just a hockey figure in Québec. Also, The La Presse, a Newspaper in Montreal revealed on October 24, 2004 that Maurice was the third most appreciated personality in Québec at that time, even though it was 4 years after his death. Anyways, if you ask anyone in Canada about it, they would most likely be able to tell you a few things about it. When people think of Canada, Hockey can often come to mind. The sport developed and grew in Canada, created by students (soldiers) of King College School, to a small village in Nova Scotia, named Windsor. The game used to be a field game, called Hurley, and soon enough they decided to take it to the ice, where it earned the name "Ice Hurley". Over time, the game finally earned a new name, as we know it as of today, Ice Hockey. At this time, it was really beginning to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Canada and the rest of North America is well known for hockey, also it being the home of the NHL, it wouldn't be the same place without it at all. As many people know, it's a very difficult sport to play, and if you play it consider it a talent, even a gift, its known as one of the hardest games to play in the world. The sport can also help with many traits, such as reflexes, stamina, hand eye coordination and more. Otherwise, many people across the world have tons of passion for the sport, lots of citizens all across the world put their life into it, it's their JOB, and it's well worth it, because the people who do that make millions a year, which is crazy... especially just for playing a game, but in front of 20,000 paying fans of course. "Some parts of our world revolve around the game, without it, there would be an enormous missing piece." Shooting the breeze outside with my father, I was quietly pondering a question. After staring into the distance, gazing at the alluring pine trees on the horizon glistened by the scorching sun's rays, my dad broke the long silence. He said,"son, why are you so quiet? You seem to be in deep thought." Quietly I responded, "You know that game 4 of the Western Conference Finals is tonight, right?" Despite various efforts to initiate expansion after the war, including attempted restarts of the Maroons and Americans franchises, the league's membership would remain at six teams for the next twenty–five seasons. By the 1960s, however, it was becoming obvious that if the NHL did not expand, a rival league would take its place. In the United States the American Football League was starting to become very successful at the time, convincing many people that a rival hockey league would also succeed. In particular, the Western Hockey League had moved into a number of major Pacific Coast markets, and had accumulated strong rosters with talent barred from the static rosters of the NHL. The center red line will be ignored for the purpose of the two–line pass," as stated on the NHL FAQ's webpage. (http://www.nhl.com/nhlhq/cba/rules_changes072205.html) Before the change of this rule, a player was not allowed to make a pass from behind the defensive blue line to the attacking blue line without a stoppage of play. The ability to make a two–line pass gives teams an easier opportunity for transitions in the neutral zone. Whereas before, a player had to make short cookie–cutter passes through the neutral zone and not many scoring opportunities were available. The opportunity for odd man rushes is more evident also. Under this new rule, players and fans are more likely to see 2–1 without the red line. This puts a well–needed pressure on defensemen, and a defensive player will show more of his skating and passing talents. Using metal blades that could be strapped to their boots, the players would cut branches from trees to use as sticks; for pucks they would use round pieces of cork or wooden balls. In the 1870s, each team was made up of nine players skating at the same time, and body checking was not permitted. A goal is scored when the puck is driven into the opponent's goal. A player who scores three goals in one game is said to have scored a hat trick. Games are divided into three 20–minute periods, and, if the score is tied, they proceed into an overtime period that varies under different sets of rules. Penalties are assessed for various infractions, and the offending player is sent to a penalty box for two minutes for a minor infraction and five minutes for a major one. Teams may not substitute for their penalized players during the penalty, except during a misconduct penalty, which usually requires a player to spend ten minutes in the penalty box. Gordie Howe grew up in a hard working family with little money. Growing up had had to battle through adversity on numerous occasions, including being cut from the first travel hockey team he tried out for. He went from not being good enough to make a kids team to arguably being the best player ever. Wayne Gretzky throughout his whole life was a talented hockey player. During his youth he would play with kids that were 4 years older than him because his own age was not enough competition. From when he was 4 to when he was 38, Wayne Gretzky was always the best hockey player on the ice. Although both are a large influence in the world, Gordie Howe was more influential than Wayne Gretzky. Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky were influential through the charitable impacts. • 32. Patrick Roy : National Hockey League Patrick Roy There has been a lot of great goalies in the national hockey league. Who is Patrick Roy? Patrick Roy is one of the best goaltenders of all time. He has been such a well all–around person during his young years, his achievements while playing in the national hockey league, and his years of being a coach. In Quebec City, Patrick Roy was born on October 5, 1965. His parents were doing very well in life. His father was a great tennis player as well as an amateur baseball player. His mother was a nationally ranked swimmer for her country. Patrick began his journey playing hockey at the age of six years old. He never started out playing in the net but when the goalie on his local team got hurt, Patrick said he would give it a try and never left that position ever since. An interesting fact was that he loved it so much, at home, he would strap pillows to his legs using them as pads. He loved playing goalie so much, he started playing that position for his local junior and midget hockey leagues. Patrick Roy dropped out of school in the eleventh grade and with the help of his parents he played in the Quebec junior league. He played for the team the Granby Bison's which didn't go so well for the team but great for Patrick Roy. What I mean by that is the team finished the season with a record of sixteen to ... COMPANY– NHL has a great product, thrilled fans, and provide financial returns for their owners. The Stanley Cup was the most popular trophy awarded for a century to North America's best hockey team. By the 1990's there was a shift from pure hockey to a hockey experience with a variety of entertainment added to increase the appeal of the game. To create exposure, new recruitments were also made. NHL's strength lied in its strong partnerships with firms like NIKE, Coca–Cola and Anheuser–Busch. NHLs' achieved great success with little exposure so with the right support and exposure they can grow their fan base considerably. VALUE PROPOSITION Hockey is not a tangible product to increase the popularity of which they can add or modify some features, hence complicating things a bit. It's a sport, so all they can work on, to make it more popular among the audience is to make the experience of watching the game worth–while. The product offered by NHL is great. Starting from the top which we felt had the biggest impact on the company because communication is one of the most essential components to running any business/relationship. As we noticed early in the company's development the offices were pretty spread out because of the enormous amount of space they had. Investigation led us to come across pictures of when they first started the company along with a lot of memos that included complaints about the level of communication, and how long it took to get responses from other coworkers and from different departments which they found out it was due to the way they initially had the offices set up. Prior to fixing that problem it led to the loss of potential customers along with delivery times missed. By this company being a just in time (JIT) organization that happening was not an option. So after six months that problem had been rectified through the change and rearrangement of offices along with desk placement. After the change took place a better level of communication was developed throughout the company to include all of the departments in the organization. As we mentioned we didn't want to just gather information from management because we felt that would have developed a bias opinion and outlook. So we also gather information from the warehouse workers, picker/packers, dispatchers and truck drivers. Starting with the warehouse workers, the information gathered from ... • 37. Marty Brodeur Research Paper After starring at the midget level in his hometown, Marty joined the Saint–Hyacinthe Laser in the Quebec Major League in 1989. In 1990, the New Jersey Devils made him the 20th overall pick in the National Hockey League draft. Brodeur appeared briefly in the NHL in 1992 before emerging as one of its top young players in 1993–94, winning the Calder Trophy as the Rookie of the Year and helping the Devils reach the Eastern Conference Finals in the playoffs. The following season, he anchored the team's run to the Stanley Cup championship, allowing just seven goals in the Devils' four–game sweep of the Detroit Red Wings. Brodeur soon cemented his place among the elite players in the NHL. In 1996, he earned his first of 10 All–Star selections and won his first of five Jennings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following year, he was awarded his first of four Vezina Trophies as the league's top goalie, and won his third Stanley Cup. Brodeur made a mark on the sport beyond the accumulation of trophies. In 2005, the NHL instituted a change that limited the space goaltenders were allowed to cover. It became known as "Brodeur Rule" for the effect it had on the Devils star, who was famous for leaving his goal in pursuit of the puck. Brodeur missed nearly four months with a torn triceps muscle during the 2008–09 season, but after returning he surpassed Hall of Famer Patrick Roy's NHL record of 551 wins in March 2009. That December, he eclipsed the mark of 103 shutouts held by another Hall of Famer in Terry Sawchuk. After recording the first losing season of his career in 2010–11, Brodeur bounced back by leading the Devils to the Stanley Cup finals the following year. However, the veteran goaltender began to show signs of aging again, and indicated that his remarkable run was nearing its end after losing his starting job early in the 2013–14 ... • 38. Steve Yzerman: A Born Leader On May 9th 1965 a leader was born, and that leader was Steve Yzerman. Yzerman was born in Cranbrook, British Columbia. He began skating when he was a mere 3 years old, but was still a little too young to play organized hockey with his older brother Mike, who was two years older. At age 5 Yzerman started playing organized ice hockey, but really couldn't skate all that well. In fact, his first gino (goal) was scored because he had slipped up in front of the adversaries net and an opposing defenseman bounced the puck off a teammate. Since Yzerman was the closest to the puck, he was given credit for the goal. This was certainly not a foundation suitable for a legendary career. As a young boy Yzerman played many different sports, but by age ten he gave up the other sports to concentrate on hockey. He spent almost all his time on hockey and made it clear to people around him that this was his one true passion. He progressed quickly and by the time young Steve was 14 years old he was playing tier two juniors with the Nepean Raiders in the Central Junior Hockey League (CJHL). He never really put up outstanding amounts of points but he brought other things to the game that made it clear he was a high caliber player as is shown with the following quote. (The Captain). Yzermans NHL career started off hot with him being chosen 4th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1983 draft. He came to the red wings as a last hope to get there franchise turned around and get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Iginla's Goal Analysis Iginla Scores His 600th Goal The goal may not have been worthy of a highlight reel, but it was a significant one. Colorado Avalanche, Jarome Iginla, became the 19th player to score 600 goals on Sunday during a 4–1 win against the Los Angeles Kings. Said goal was not meant to go in the net. Iginla was parallel to the right side of the net. His intention was to pass the puck across the crease. It ended up ricocheting out Kings' defenseman Jake Muzzin's skate, ultimately going past goalie Jhonas Enroth. This goal actually represents Iginla's career as a whole. It wasn't a flashy goal. It wasn't a sharp shooting goal. It was a sneaky, unexpected goal. As a former Calgary Flames' player, where he scored 525 of his goals, Iginla has never been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Analysis Of G Vegas Golden Knights Expansion Draft Yesterday, the NHL created a little drama when they announced, at 9:58am, that protected lists from each team for the upcoming Vegas Golden Knights expansion draft, set for 10am, would be pushed back 30 minutes to 10:30. The head scratching move, for which no reason was ever officially given, started the wave of social media activity that would not slow for all of Father's Day 2017. Closer to home, there was plenty of venom spewed towards Islanders general manager Garth Snow when the lists were finally made available to the public, as New York was the only team in the entire league to protect five defenseman and only three forwards, two of whom were automatic, captain John Tavares and winger Andrew Ladd. Looking at it face value, given ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wants picks....all the picks. Some league sources told SNY they wouldn't be surprised to see Vegas with 10 first–round picks in the Friday entry draft. Second, the Islanders really like Pelech and how he developed this past season after overcoming thoracic outlet syndrome. At 22, they feel he's too young to risk and has the potential to be more than just a third–pairing defenseman. Is he better than de Haan at present? No, not even close. But the de Haan angle could be gamesmanship. With de Haan a restricted free agent, all Snow has to do is qualify to retain the steady, shot blocking defenseman's rights, which he will certainly do. Then he can negotiate when de Haan declines to sign it and likely send it to arbitration. At that salary hearing, the Islanders can try to use the argument that he is outside their top 5, even being left exposed for the just completed expansion draft. I know they don't believe it, but hey, business is business. Lastly, it could be to drive up the value of Travis Hamonic, which seems to be in question right now. Hamonic seems likely to move if Snow is able to pull off a big trade for a top–six forward, and he's been in discussions with just about every team who has one on the market. Matt Duchene, Jordan Eberle, Alex Galchenyuk being the most prominent names mentioned but you can now add James Neal and James Van Reimsdyk to the list. At the end of the day, the Islanders have ...
