Characteristics Of A Hotel
Nowadays, hospitality is required in the business fields in general such as; hotels. As we know, in
the modern life, there are many of international brands and competition between hotels. However,
there are some qualities we have to consider before choosing a hotel as a guest or as a job offer to
work in it. (Tan, 2008) Firstly, in an ideal world every industry or even every successful person
should have a vision and a mission of his or her work. So, the vision is what a person wants to
achieve in a real life, the mission means what is the purpose of the business to make money or even
to make charity. Following this further, a new business should put a strong vision to motivate the
staff to work seriously and to reach the main goal of the industry. ... Show more content on

(Hearn, 2002). Since the beginning of a business, the manager should focus on the mission
statement of the industry, and how to apply the mission of the industry in a real life. Moreover,
every company should make an appraisal forms every year or even every month to make sure that
the company is running towards its mission statement by evaluating the performance of all the
departments in the company and to support the weaknesses. (Beek, 2007) This report highlights on
Westin Doha Hotel and Spa, the vision and mission of this hotel are based on the scope of hotels in
Doha. The vision of Westin hotel is to be the most well– known hotel in Doha and to gain the
publicity in a hospitality field in Qatar by making huge events which are interested in charity such
as; making open days for elderly and children with cancer. Also, the mission of Westin hotel is to

Vacation Rentals Or Hotels
Vacation rentals or hotels, that is the question. When choosing the most suitable accommodation for
your trip, there are a few factors that come into play. For example, how much are you willing to
spend for a night? After all, the money that doesn't go into accommodation, goes into meals or
shopping.
To help you deal with this struggle, we have compiled a checklist to guide your choice in deciding
the perfect accommodation for your trip. Undecided between vacation rentals or hotels? Read on to
find out more about which to pick when you are planning your perfect holiday trip.
Costs can vary according to the size, location and length of your stay. If you are not on a tight
budget, staying at a hotel might be more enticing than spending a night at a vacation home. Unlike a
vacation rental, a hotel offers more customer–oriented services such as room–keeping services and a
24 hour reception and concierge to attend to any needs you might have. Stay in a hotel and when
you are back after a long day spent exploring the city, you can be sure to return to a tidied room and
clean sheets.
If your budget is not as flexible, vacation rentals are the way to go. The biggest perk is that instead
of getting a room all to yourself, you get an entire house! This often comes complete with a living
room, a bedroom and a kitchen. It will be like you never left home, except maybe a little bit nicer
and more exciting.
More often than not, the reason why most hotels are costly is due to the fact

Marketing In The Global Environment
Overview Rosewoods Hotels and Resorts have been operating for 25 years and possesses' 12 hotel
properties all over the world. The group of hotels has a well–built ability and power to raise value of
properties by building unique, one of kind properties with a small ultra–luxury residential style.
Emergence of new hotels has increased intense competition in the hotel industry and it has become
difficult to position Rosewood's collection of properties in an increasingly flooded field of luxury

Limited market and limited number of customers: As management and culture are similar

Effect of an Assumption Customers enable the organization to treat each customer in a different way
on the basis of the contribution they make towards the firm (Kleinaltenkamp & Wengler, 2007). The
analysis of customer lifetime value aids the organization to rank and order customers on the basis of
their contribution to organization's revenues. It also helps the organization to determine as to how
much it can invest in retaining customers to gain positive returns on the investment.
Organizations that use corporate branding have a much higher customer lifetime as compared to
organizations that do not use it. Following are the assumptions that were created during the
calculation of Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) in the Rosewood Hotels and Resorts. The marketing
and operations asset in Rosewood hotels is about one million dollar per year. The customer retention
rate of Rosewood Hotels is invariable with both corporate branding and without corporate branding

Independent hotels v/s branded hotels

Assumption.1 According to the authors of the article they have quoted an assumption that for a new
entrant it is important to have a pre – entry experience to determine its performance.
Evidence by the author
To back up the assumption made by the authors, they have provided with evidence which states that
according to M. Ganco in 2009 it is important to have a pre–industry experience before entering a
new industry and also according to Dimov and Martin in 2004 and 2010 "both breadth and depth of
experience contributed to the likelihood that firms made first round entries."
Challenging the assumption
The authors have made a significantly true assumption above to what I completely agree with.
Importance of pre–industry experience was first analyzed in 1982 by Gort and Klepper who also
says that a new entrant who has prior experience of the industry will be able to survive the
challenges of the new industry and also the heterogeneity of the previous and new firm is equally
important. By stating the above evidence I completely stand with the assumption made by the
authors.
Assumption.2 According to the authors the brand flag on a franchised firm will be an indication of
the product quality for the potential customers.
Evidence by the author
To support the assumption made by the authors, they say that according to a study by Erdem and

Outsourcing and Hotels
Introduction
What is Outsourcing?
Outsourcing can be defined as a business relationship in which two or more companies work
together to achieve a collective advantage. Rugman et al (2003)
If you look back ten – fifteen years ago outsourcing in hotels was not a popular concept but more
recently with the downturn in the economy in the nineteen nineties more and more hotels are turning
to outsourcing to help increase their revenues and maximize their profit potential. The use of
outsourcing enables firms to maximize their resources and to reinforce their competitive advantage.
One of the most popular areas for outsourcing in hotels would have to be the Food and Beverage
sector. The decision to outsource by many hotels has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

6. Joint venture outsourcing involves the use of a niche in the given market and setting up a new
company. The client provides the staff and the assets. The profits from the company will be divided
out as in the agreement.
7. Equity stakes is the strengthening of the outsourcing agreements by either the client or the
provider of the equity stake in the other.
What can be outsourced?
Within a hotel almost every department can be outsourced but not only in hotels in any industry
almost any function can be outsourced. Outsourcing can be undertaken in some of the following
ways of a business process.
– Traditional Services
– Current and new services
– Core competencies
– Projects
Robinson et al (1995)
Every hotel and property will have many different valid reasons on whether to outsource or not to
outsource. The main operations in a hotel that are most likely to be outsourced are;
– Specialist services where specialised personnel or skills are required
– Functions that would have fast changing IT requirements
– Operations where recruitment of employees and training of employees is of a high cost to the
hotel
– Operations that are labour intensive
– The operations which are the commonplace

Disadvantages Of Hotel Overbooking
If one were to ponder the question of whether hotels should overbook their rooms the answer may
appear to be quite simple. Why would a hotel owner want to book more reservations for rooms than
they actually had available? This is precisely why this issue has faced the hotel industry for a
number of years. Contrary to what the average person may think about hotel owners overbooking
their rooms, it has actually shown itself to be a noble strategy in achieving maximum profitability
when done accurately. It is imperative that it is done in an appropriate manner so as to not give the
hotel a corrupt name or lead to guest dissatisfaction.
Having a knowledge about overbooking and what impacts it can have on a hotel are key to
understanding how hotels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hope is to have all the rooms on the property occupied on any given night; due to the fact of
no–shows and cancellations hotels may decide to overbook. Though hotel overbooking can offer
success to a vast array of hotels, it is clear that there are also some disadvantages that could spawn
from it. In his article, "The Impact of Overbooking on Hotels' Operation Management," Vladimir
Sashov Zhechev notes some of the possible consequences that could result for overbooking when all
of the guests do actually show up that had a reservation. For example, if a customer has made a
reservation at a certain hotel and arrives there only to discover that their room has been given to
another guest who also had a reservation, it is only logical that the guest is going to be quite irate. It
is now the duty of the hotel to arrange for that customer to have alternate lodging accommodations,
as well as provide transportation for them to get to their other destination (Zhechev et. al Ivanov 7).
Additionally, the hotel may offer the guest a free night on their stay or their next stay due to the
complications they have just experienced on their visit. This now has ended up costing the hotel
money that it will now take as a

Hotel Chain Of Hotels And Resorts
1 Introduction
Marriott group of hotels and resorts is an International leader in hotel Industry owning more than
3700 properties making it one of the broadest range of brand portfolio holders in the world. Marriott
chain of hotels was founded by Mr. J. Williard Marriott in the year 1950 when he started with two
motels. The first motel was established as an airport motel near Washington and served as a quality
Inn while the second motel was set up near the Twin Bridges a few years later. The second motel
gave Marriott the much desired brand name and Marriott took off one of the most successful hotel
chains and never looked back.
2 Context and Research Rationale
The research problem is based on the study of green or environmentally friendly strategies adopted
by one of the top hotels in UK– Marriott hotel, Regents park London and whether such strategies
have an effect on some intangible variables of marketing such as guest behaviour and guest
satisfaction or loyalty.
The answer to why is this a research problem is because hotels usually have positive attitude
towards green strategies but they do not see it as a viable marketing strategy, which impacts their
core competency in the business. Most of the big organisations follow green strategy to play it safe
rather than using it as an effective guest retention strategy. There is a gap in the research done
towards identifying the relationship between adopting green strategy and its impact on business
growth factors such as

or hiring practices in place to adequately equip her for recruitment needed for expansion. Cindy
even states her incompetencies, "There is no employee handbook, little formal policy structure, no
employee complaint procedure, and very little supervisor training" (Gusdorf, 2013, p. 6).
Although Chad feels comfortable leaving his responsibilities with his wife to play golf, Cindy
clearly cannot juggle both responsibilities. Chad's actions are selfish in the sense that he is
collecting income from the hotel but not attributing to the organization. Thus, the HR department is

a larger hotel organization will require a far more strategic HR department than the one she

If Cindy could solely focus on her department instead of juggling both roles she would be aligned
with the operational goals and would be prepared for any organizational change. Instead, Cindy has
failed to provide her current staff with suitable direction and formalized structure. As a result, many
of the employees at The Georges Hotel are lacking in discipline, performance and have little to no

However, the higher number of properties managed by the corporate branded hotels could have
provided a larger base and more similar–styled options for multi–property stays by guests compared
to the lower base of those in the individually branded categories like Rosewood. The distinct
personalities of each Rosewood property may ironically limit multi–property stays due to each
property's own merits. Thus, Rosewood's data of 5% guests who had stayed in more than one of its
properties may not necessarily be an inferior indicator in relation to that of Four Seasons' 9% rate.
The corporate branded hotels' market penetration was also supported by the loyalty programme
machinery. The frequent–stay programme grew by 12% in guest enrolment in 2003 according to a
research conducted by the Market Matrix. Such programmes could potentially double the rate of
returning guests. Even though not all major brands adopted this approach, its existence made it
tougher to change consumer behaviours and prevent any new market entrants to present themselves
as reasonable viable product substitutes for a major part of the penetrated market share.
Coincidentally, a group with a larger number of properties would also provide a bigger option pool
and accessibility for guests to maximise their returns through such programmes. Although John
Scott deemed such an initiative as irrelevant to Rosewood's course, this marketing strategy would
still present itself as another level of

The Advantages and Disadvantages of 7 Days Inn

On the other hand, obsolete and deficient equipments in some guest rooms also make the customers

obsolete equipments, the dullish and yellow lighting in some branch stores is most annoying.
Lighting, whose aim is to temporarily receive guests and revivify the staffs, has to be designed for
different purposes in different areas. However, in two branch stores that I lodged in, the lightings in
corridors were so dim during days and nights, while the lighting color and intensity in the guest
rooms was unchangeable. In a hotel, during the day, people are attracted by the interior

The Regency Grand Hotel is a five–star hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The hotel was established

The Regency Grand Hotel has always been very profitable, and its employees have always worked
according to management's instructions. Their responsibility has been to ensure that the instructions
from their managers are carried out diligently and conscientiously. Under the previous management,
innovation and creativity were discouraged. Indeed, employees were punished for their mistakes and
discouraged from trying out ideas that had not been approved by management. As a result,
employees were afraid to be innovative and to take risks.
Becker met with Regency's managers and department heads to explain that empowerment would be
introduced in the hotel. He told them that employees must be empowered with decision–making
authority so that they could use their initiative, creativity and judgment to satisfy guest needs, and
handle problems effectively and efficiently. However, he stressed that the more complex issues and
decisions were to be referred to superiors, who were to coach and assist rather than provide direct
orders. Furthermore, Becker stressed that mistakes were allowed but that making the same mistakes
more than twice would not be tolerated. He advised his managers and department heads not to
discuss with him minor issues or problems and not to consult with him about minor decisions.
Nevertheless, he told them that they were to discuss important, major issues and decisions with him.

Boutique Hotels

The objective of this report is to analyze the boutique hotel industry in Sri Lanka and the trends of
the industry at present and the key issues likely to change the formation of the industry in the future.
Tourism in Sri Lanka has been booming since the war came to an end also the recovery of the global
recession also has led to an increase in the number of tourists visiting the country. Therefore the
need to cater to the foreigners has led to the growth in the emerging Boutique Hotel Industry.

Both the design and style of city boutique hotels are far different from the traditional resort boutique
hotels. Modernism, and the interpretation of the 21st Century – at times matched with historical
material and art – are known to be modern, and found in most city boutique hotels. Technology is an
huge factor, whether it is technology that enhances the ambience and makes emotional contact
between the guests and the hard attributes of the building (such as lighting and music), or
technology that is provided for the convenience of hotel guests (such as in–room DVD players, flat–
screen television sets, cordless phones, and computers with high–speed Internet access and the latest
monitor genres).Entertainment in boutique hotels is an important part in creating a lively, chic and
trendy mind–set. However, in the boutique hotel concept, entertainment is not limited to events such
as live music and performances; the idea of a boutique hotel is entertainment in its own nature: a hip
restaurant, lounge, and bar; an exceptional theme; and visually spectacular decorations.

they tended to just stay at home and chronically tired. This indirectly will bring the overall

Essentials things for every Luxury Hotel
The idea of staying in luxury hotels or resorts is always exciting, especially if it is your first time.
Unlike inns and budget hotels, staff that speaks several languages, 24 hours room service, secured
parking, excellent food and spa are just some of the main features that you can expect and that every
luxury hotel should have.
1. Amazing facilities
From decor to furniture and other amenities, the features in a luxury hotel should be high level,
superior quality and definitely amazing.
2. Cleanliness

Extra towels
You need to have an option to use more than one towel during your stay in luxury hotel, especially
if it is located in tropical and humid areas.
13. Hair dryer
When packing, we all try to avoid carrying bulky items like a hair dryer. Luxury hotel management
should think about that and should provide one. Hair dryer should be provided in the room and not
in the lobby, because it isn't fun to go a few floors down with a soaking wet hair just to borrow one.
14. Excellent food
When you visit a new location, you want to experience all the best it has to offer and that includes
the food, as well. One of the advantages of staying in the luxury hotel is that the best food is already
at your fingertips. You don't have to travel around town in search for a good restaurant; all you have
to do, in order to enjoy excellent food, is to go couple floors down.
15. Comfortable beds
At the end of the day all you need is a good night sleep and that will only be possible if your bed is
of good quality, clean, well maintained, well positioned and well designed.

SWOT Analysis
External Environment
The external environment of the hotel industry in is very competitive and already well established.
Trends in the market include promotional campaigns to customers using the "more bang for your
buck," method. There are several different segments of the hotel industry including: luxury, upscale,
mid–market with food and beverage, mid–market without food and beverage, economy, and budget.
Each different segment offers certain amenities to appeal to consumers depending on what they are

industry they have looked at several important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, McDonald 's could create a totally brand name driven hotel enterprise by using the same
type of direction Disney did when they created their own cruise line. Strategy Recommendations
General Recommendations
McDonald 's should use their brand name to create a McDonald 's experience in the hotel industry
just like Disney did with cruises. They should also incorporate their food service experience with
their hotels and create new menus for them just like they do when they enter a new country.
Specific Recommendations
McDonald 's should enter the mid–market with food and beverage segment. In this segment they
can take advantage of what they already know in the food service industry while avoiding the high
cost and inexperience of luxury accommodations. These hotels should be directed at children and
families. They could incorporate the McDonald 's Play Place and other fun activity rooms like
arcades or maybe something more adult like a game room with pool tables and electronic darts.
Using a more family oriented direction will also allow them to avoid the high cost of liquor licenses
and trying to compete with something that is already being done.
Rationale behind Recommendations
If McDonald 's wants to take part in the hotel industry using the strength of their brand name it is
important that they differentiate themselves from all the other hotel chains. If

The Fort Garry Hotel
In the ever changing world of the hospitality and tourism there is always the question of what
happened in the past and what does the future hold when it comes to trends and ideas for new
entrepreneurs who are trying to break into the industry. In one hand we have the story of the Fort
Garry Hotel in Manitoba, Canada. This is the story written by Giles Bugaisliskis where he tells us
about the beginnings of this historic hotel and how their first owners had an idea and wanted to
make it successful. The idea: to have a chain of hotels along the rail road with a new corporate look.
(Bugaisliskis) The owners seemed to have known what the public wanted and they set out to shape
the hotel industry. Fast forward to today where the hotel industry is highly competitive and the
inventory of hotels and resorts is as large as the many types of customers that they attempt to serve.
In the counterpart of this critique, we have an article by Diana Foris, Cristina Nicolau and Tiberiu
Foris about the future trends in the tourism in relationship to education and youth. What do young
people want, where do they want to spend their money, and how does this younger crowd dictate the
way hotels and resort have to accommodate and adapt to the new century big spenders (Foris,
Nicolau, Foris). The old entrepreneurs and the new entrepreneurs have one thing in common, they
want to succeed in the hospitality business but they have also different challenges that changed with
the passing of years.

  • 2. Vacation Rentals Or Hotels Vacation rentals or hotels, that is the question. When choosing the most suitable accommodation for your trip, there are a few factors that come into play. For example, how much are you willing to spend for a night? After all, the money that doesn't go into accommodation, goes into meals or shopping. To help you deal with this struggle, we have compiled a checklist to guide your choice in deciding the perfect accommodation for your trip. Undecided between vacation rentals or hotels? Read on to find out more about which to pick when you are planning your perfect holiday trip. Costs can vary according to the size, location and length of your stay. If you are not on a tight budget, staying at a hotel might be more enticing than spending a night at a vacation home. Unlike a vacation rental, a hotel offers more customer–oriented services such as room–keeping services and a 24 hour reception and concierge to attend to any needs you might have. Stay in a hotel and when you are back after a long day spent exploring the city, you can be sure to return to a tidied room and clean sheets. If your budget is not as flexible, vacation rentals are the way to go. The biggest perk is that instead of getting a room all to yourself, you get an entire house! This often comes complete with a living room, a bedroom and a kitchen. It will be like you never left home, except maybe a little bit nicer and more exciting. More often than not, the reason why most hotels are costly is due to the fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It also helps the organization to determine as to how much it can invest in retaining customers to gain positive returns on the investment. Evidence by the author To back up the assumption made by the authors, they have provided with evidence which states that according to M. Ganco in 2009 it is important to have a pre–industry experience before entering a new industry and also according to Dimov and Martin in 2004 and 2010 "both breadth and depth of experience contributed to the likelihood that firms made first round entries." Challenging the assumption The authors have made a significantly true assumption above to what I completely agree with. Importance of pre–industry experience was first analyzed in 1982 by Gort and Klepper who also says that a new entrant who has prior experience of the industry will be able to survive the challenges of the new industry and also the heterogeneity of the previous and new firm is equally important. By stating the above evidence I completely stand with the assumption made by the authors. For example, if a customer has made a reservation at a certain hotel and arrives there only to discover that their room has been given to another guest who also had a reservation, it is only logical that the guest is going to be quite irate. It is now the duty of the hotel to arrange for that customer to have alternate lodging accommodations, as well as provide transportation for them to get to their other destination (Zhechev et. al Ivanov 7). Additionally, the hotel may offer the guest a free night on their stay or their next stay due to the complications they have just experienced on their visit. This now has ended up costing the hotel money that it will now take as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hotel Chain Of Hotels And Resorts 1 Introduction Marriott group of hotels and resorts is an International leader in hotel Industry owning more than 3700 properties making it one of the broadest range of brand portfolio holders in the world. Marriott chain of hotels was founded by Mr. J. Williard Marriott in the year 1950 when he started with two motels. The first motel was established as an airport motel near Washington and served as a quality Inn while the second motel was set up near the Twin Bridges a few years later. The second motel gave Marriott the much desired brand name and Marriott took off one of the most successful hotel chains and never looked back. 2 Context and Research Rationale The research problem is based on the study of green or environmentally friendly strategies adopted by one of the top hotels in UK– Marriott hotel, Regents park London and whether such strategies have an effect on some intangible variables of marketing such as guest behaviour and guest satisfaction or loyalty. The answer to why is this a research problem is because hotels usually have positive attitude towards green strategies but they do not see it as a viable marketing strategy, which impacts their core competency in the business. Most of the big organisations follow green strategy to play it safe rather than using it as an effective guest retention strategy. There is a gap in the research done towards identifying the relationship between adopting green strategy and its impact on business growth factors such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the higher number of properties managed by the corporate branded hotels could have provided a larger base and more similar–styled options for multi–property stays by guests compared to the lower base of those in the individually branded categories like Rosewood. The distinct personalities of each Rosewood property may ironically limit multi–property stays due to each property's own merits. Thus, Rosewood's data of 5% guests who had stayed in more than one of its properties may not necessarily be an inferior indicator in relation to that of Four Seasons' 9% rate. The corporate branded hotels' market penetration was also supported by the loyalty programme machinery. The frequent–stay programme grew by 12% in guest enrolment in 2003 according to a research conducted by the Market Matrix. Such programmes could potentially double the rate of returning guests. Even though not all major brands adopted this approach, its existence made it tougher to change consumer behaviours and prevent any new market entrants to present themselves as reasonable viable product substitutes for a major part of the penetrated market share. Coincidentally, a group with a larger number of properties would also provide a bigger option pool and accessibility for guests to maximise their returns through such programmes. Finally, McDonald 's could create a totally brand name driven hotel enterprise by using the same type of direction Disney did when they created their own cruise line. Strategy Recommendations General Recommendations McDonald 's should use their brand name to create a McDonald 's experience in the hotel industry just like Disney did with cruises. They should also incorporate their food service experience with their hotels and create new menus for them just like they do when they enter a new country. Specific Recommendations McDonald 's should enter the mid–market with food and beverage segment. In this segment they can take advantage of what they already know in the food service industry while avoiding the high cost and inexperience of luxury accommodations. These hotels should be directed at children and families. They could incorporate the McDonald 's Play Place and other fun activity rooms like arcades or maybe something more adult like a game room with pool tables and electronic darts.

  • 43. The Fort Garry Hotel In the ever changing world of the hospitality and tourism there is always the question of what happened in the past and what does the future hold when it comes to trends and ideas for new entrepreneurs who are trying to break into the industry. In one hand we have the story of the Fort Garry Hotel in Manitoba, Canada. This is the story written by Giles Bugaisliskis where he tells us about the beginnings of this historic hotel and how their first owners had an idea and wanted to make it successful. The idea: to have a chain of hotels along the rail road with a new corporate look. (Bugaisliskis) The owners seemed to have known what the public wanted and they set out to shape the hotel industry. Fast forward to today where the hotel industry is highly competitive and the inventory of hotels and resorts is as large as the many types of customers that they attempt to serve. In the counterpart of this critique, we have an article by Diana Foris, Cristina Nicolau and Tiberiu Foris about the future trends in the tourism in relationship to education and youth. What do young people want, where do they want to spend their money, and how does this younger crowd dictate the way hotels and resort have to accommodate and adapt to the new century big spenders (Foris, Nicolau, Foris). The old entrepreneurs and the new entrepreneurs have one thing in common, they want to succeed in the hospitality business but they have also different challenges that changed with the passing of years. ...
