Arrange or modify your daily schedule to:
• maximize instructional time and responsible
behavior
• minimize wasted time and irresponsible
behavior

Key Points:
 Within each activity, avoid having any one type of
task run too long (30 minutes-max, depending on
grade level)
 Schedule independent work and cooperative/ peer
group tasks so that they immediately follow teacher
directed tasks
 Identify and proactively address the times of days
when students typically exhibit the most problem
behavior

Particularly troublesome times and
suggestions:
• After recess or entry into class from hall:
• Teach students how to enter the room and how to
calm down
• Schedule an activity immediately
• The last hour of the day or last 5 minute of
the class period
• Avoid too much independent work at the end of the day/
hour
