Use an Attention Signal
• Decide on a signal you can use to get students’
attention.
• The signal should have both a visual and
auditory component.
• The signal should be able to be used in all
settings.
• Teach them to respond to the signal by focusing
on you and maintaining complete silence.

2. Teaching: Attention Signal
Most importantly, you will
need to:
Teach the signal.
Wait for 100% compliance.
Use the signal consistently.
Practice using the signal.
Reward compliance.
