Over The Rainbow Analysis
"Over the Rainbow," or popularly known as "Somewhere over the Rainbow" is a poignant ballad
expressing a deep longing and hope of an escape from the worldly troubles. The song was originally
written for the 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, with its music created by Harold Arlen and lyrics by
Yip Harburg. It won the Best Original Song in the Academy Awards on the same year. "Over the
Rainbow" is one of the greatest American standards of the 20th century, a cultural gem significant
for preservation. The song also ranked first in the Songs of the Century List, the result of a survey of
America's musical and cultural heritage. Since then, many covers had been recorded by artists who
had their own unique interpretation of the musical piece. Judy Garland's rendition of the song
reminds me of my dad's collection of 1940s records. She sings in a soft, melodic voice reflective of
the musical style in that era. The tempo is slow, the vocals are more emphasized than the orchestra's
instrumentation. Garland's original version of the song is best remembered because of her role as
Dorothy Gale in "The Wizard of Oz." In the movie, she sang about "the place where she won't get
into trouble." The song captured the hearts of the audience since it was a symbolic piece where
many individuals can relate to. The dreams of the ideal and the hope of a brighter future was evident
in the song. Somehow, "Over the Rainbow" mirrored the life of the artist making it her own as
Garland struggled with her

Hierarchy of Pony Needs: Physical Needs
*Click Click* went the VCR
*Buzzzz buzz* went the static on the TV
A staticy Rainbow Dash image appeared on the screen, however the static was so bad you could
barely make out the shape sitting at a desk. A calm cool voice cracked out of the speakers
"Hello there future or current pony owners. This is a EQPMB's production of how to care for your
new slave slash meat slash toy Pony. I'm your guide Rainbow Slash, and I'm the in charge of
teaching the slaves at the factory. If you are wondering how I got that name, well let's just say it's
deserved and leave it at that."
"But this video isn't about me as awesome as that would be! This video series hopes to teach you
how to care for, discipline, your pony friend. I'm more focused on mentally breaking and training
ponies, so if you are looking for cooking advice, go ask Darth Pie."
The image seemed to spasm at the name of her coworker as if she was getting a migraine. She

Cas About The Pencil Crumbling
Cas liked to sketch. He liked the feel of the pencil crumbling against his paper, he loved the feel of
moving his hand to shape something, and he loved creating something just for himself. So they
weren 't the best drawings in the world, but that didn 't matter to Cas.
He nodded his head a little in time with the music that was pouring out from his headphones, gazing
over the sight he was sketching. There was a water fountain in his town that overlooked one of the
busiest streets in his town. Every minute or so the sidewalk separating the road from the fountain
would erupt in spontaneous explosions of water. There was a sprinkler system along the path that to

Music was blasting, banners were flying and they were all smiling and cheering. Cas longed to join

When he 'd told his father it had not been a happy day in the Novak family. Cas was ignored, his
announcement taken as some kind of sick joke. His father had banished him from ever talking about
being gay again. After months of explaining, his father had finally acknowledged that Cas was
telling the truth. He was never allowed to mention it again, his father had told him, or he 'd no
longer be his son.
On this particular day, all Cas ' father would talk about was 'those disgusting homos ' and he 'd
looked like he was about to be sick when they came down the road.
Cas had snapped. He dropped his fathers groceries and started to move towards the happy crowd.
His father had not said a word to him, but his face said it all.
5 years later and Cas was still yet to hear his fathers voice.
Cas had joined in a row of people who all had rainbows drawn on their face and a few small banners
between them. A very beautiful red headed girl around his own age had greeted him with nothing
but warmness. The boy next to her had a rainbow wig on a mask on. Cas wondered if he wasn 't
allowed to be seen at pride or something. Still he seemed to be having a good time. He looked over
at Cas and passed him a small rainbow flag, kissing him on the cheek as he

Short Story : The Story Of The World
Suddenly Bergess screamed in excruciating pain and as Kohen turned to look he found himself
screaming as well strapped to his chair. The pain, while only lasting seconds, was worse than
anything ever experienced. It was totally unforeseen but would never be forgotten. The instant the
pain subsided Kohen unbuckled himself and rushed to Bergess' side to see if she was all right. She
had tears running down her face, as did he, but it seemed there was no lasting effects. As he reached
her, he looked her straight in the eyes and said,
"Well, let's not do that part again".
She smiled, and Kohen wiped a tear that rolled down her face.
They embraced and he said, "We're here honey. What say we take a peek?"

As the suns' rays filtered through the plasma all the colors of the rainbow were visible and they
seemed to dance upon the sunbeams like a leaf on the wind.
The effect was alluring, but Kohen figured he should do a Post Emergence check and scan the area
for any other rainbow asteroids and stay a marginal distance away. The check revealed nothing new
about the condition of the ship. Ange and Hershel had shut down the accelerators and put them in
standby mode. The fusion reactor was still working perfectly but in half–life mode for the need of
max power was gone because the accelerators were in stand–by. They would have to fix the cavity
resonator sometime but that was low on the list right now. All in all, the voyage was a success
except for the unpleasantness at the end, which would require more study and thought later. Now for
the in depth system scan.
"I can't believe we are actually here", murmured Bergess as she gazed out at the wonders she was
experiencing.

A Story Of A Short Story
"Catch me if you can!" I yelled as I cantered away from my friend.
"Yeah right!" Anna yelled as she kicked her horse and came chasing after me. We stopped at my
grandpa's farm.
"We better put the horses away" I said as I dismounted.
"Yeah" Anna said while we walked to the stalls. Anna and I are best friends. We have been riding for
many years at my grandpa's farm. We were both 15 and started to ride at 5. We put the horses away,
un–tacked them and went to get some drinks in the house " Hey girls, how was your ride?" my
grandpa asked.
" Great, we saw some deer near the forest!" I replied. " Yeah it was beautiful" Anna exclaimed
. " You want to ride tomorrow?" grandpa said. " Of course" Anna and I said at the same time. We
laughed and ran to the waiting car.
" Hi Mrs. Kaup" I said as I got into the car. Mrs. Kaup was Anna's mom. " How was Diva and
April?" Mrs. Kaup asked. Diva is my horse. She is a 14 year, old flea bitten quarter horse. April is
Anna's dark bay trakehner. " They were good" I replied. After a quick drive I was home. " Thanks
for the ride Mrs. Kaup"
"No problem honey" she replied. "Don't forget Anna tomorrow at noon" I yelled as I ran into the
house. The next morning I looked out the window only to see it pouring rain. I checked my phone
and saw text from Anna. Are we still on for today?
Yeah I think so. Hopefully it will pass.

The Rainbow Fish By Marcus Pfiter
In my final picture book read aloud, I am going to read The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister. The
main element of craft that I am going to highlight are the illustrations. The illustrations play a very
important role in this book because it catches the children's attention and helps bring the book to
life. In The Rainbow Fish, a fish, named Rainbow Fish, has the most beautiful sliver scales that
sparkle and shine (Pfister 4). However, Rainbow Fish is proud and selfish, and does not want to
share his beautiful scales with the other fish (Pfister 8–11). So the other fish ignore Rainbow Fish
and leave him all by his lonesome self (Pfister 11). Later on, Rainbow Fish gets some advice from
the all–knowing octopus (Pfister 14). The octopus tells Rainbow Fish that he will be happy if he
shares all of his scales (Pfister 14–16). So Rainbow Fish takes his advice and shares all of his scales
with all the other fish (Pfister 24). At the end, Rainbow Fish learns how to make friends by sharing
his most prized scales (Pfister 27). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Pfister also puts sliver sticker scales on Rainbow Fish to show his most beautiful sliver
scales that pop off of the page. I believe this illustration plays an important role in The Rainbow
Fish because Rainbow Fish is supposed to be the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean. And I
believe that Marcus Pfister did a wonderful job depicting Rainbow Fish as the most beautiful fish in
the ocean in this illustration. That is why I believe that the artwork is the most important element of

The Power Of Giving In The Rainbow Fish, By Marcus Pfister
The Rainbow Fish, written and illustrated by Marcus Pfister, is a children's story about the power of
giving. The most important detail in this book is the powerful and important message that shines
through in the story. After reading the book, we realize that the effect of giving is sometimes even
more of a gift to the one who is doing the giving. After all it is better to give than to receive. The
general themes that one might interpret in Pfister's story are sharing, giving, and selflessness, or one
might see themes of vanity, value, self–worth, and pride.
The text is very rich with description. The author makes it easy to imagine the beauty of the
Rainbow fish even without the illustrations. He uses adjectives like "dazzling, shimmering, and
sparkling" as he describes what all the other fish see as they admire the beautiful fish swimming past
them. He describes the fish as "silent and proud." Most people can relate to a situation in their own
lives where they might have encountered a person like the Rainbow Fish. As the reader reads the
text of the story, they will most likely find it easy to relate to the feelings of the little blue fish. They
might also find themselves rooting for the Rainbow Fish and wanting him to figure out how to solve
his dilemma so that he can make some friends and finally find happiness.
The story is very easy to read. There is not a great amount of text and therefore it can hold the
attention of a younger child or make a great book

The Rainbow Fish Business Plan
Standard: CCS, ELA, Writing, 2, #11– Create or present a poem, dramatization, art work, or
personal response to a particular author or theme studied in class.
Goal/Objective: After reading The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister and reflecting on the topic of
friendship, the students will be able to build an understanding of how we can be a good friend and
how it makes us feel when being a good friend by creating a class rainbow fish.
Activity: Friendships are often built in classrooms because the children are surrounded by their
classmates which gives many opportunities for interactions with one another. Teaching students on
how to be a good friend and build a good friendship is a life necessity because they will be building
social skills in which they need to be a good friend. In the lesson students will be participating in a
read aloud. The teacher and student will reflect on the different interactions the Rainbow fish

For Colored Girls who Have Considered Suicide/ When the Rainbow is Enuf is a piece of work
written by Ntozake Shange. It is written in an unusual style that is called a choreopoem. This style is
very effective when done by a skilled poet such as Shange. She uses a combination of rhyming
lyrics and a play like format to captivate the reader. The subject matter of her work is very powerful
as well. The entire collection revolves around how black women are oppressed and their courage
throughout many trials. Using the combination of a unique style and riveting content Ntozake

Shange epitomizes the choreopoem style of writing. The theme of Colored Girls is mainly Shange 's
view of other women of her own race. She writes of dreams that all black women had during her
time. Dreams of love and of the good life were the only things that kept many women going
according to Shange. Despite all of the dreams and the steps that black women took to reach them
they always seemed to be shattered by some heartless lover or destroyed at the hand of the white
folk. Shange writes with such passion that anyone no matter what their background can receive the
message in her writing and benefit from it. "i cannot now i cannot be nice to nobody nice is such a
rip–off" This exert from the book shows
Shange 's view of life and social issues after she moved to Harlem. She has obviously lost all
confidence and respect for everyone around her. Throughout the book Shange continually bashes
men and the way they treated women in Harlem.
She talks about the oppression that women had to endure when they gave everything that they were
to a man and then that man took it all away without a second thought. Obviously there is a lot of
unhealthy feelings held by black women when they can not even afford to be nice to anyone for fear
of being hurt or even raped for no reason. The message or theme that Shange wants everyone, not
only other black women, who reads her work to get is her description of

Analysis Of The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop
When Elizabeth Bishop writes a poem of someone's experience catching a fish, the person catching
the fish, presumed as the narrator, describes the fish's intricate details which essentially gives it an
ugly appearance. In an explication of "The Fish," the analyzer also notes how the narrator's
descriptions yield an ugly appearance of the fish, but with further observation, the narrator realizes
the beauty deep within the fish and the fact that the fish is a warrior. The ugly description of the
outside of the fish correlates with how some people tend to make a quick judgment based on
someone's appearance without taking the time to think about what their personality or characteristics
include. Or even to think about what that person has been through that has caused them to look that
way. Evidently, as the poem continues, the narrator reveals that the fish has been through at least
five battles, according to the physical scars left in its jaw. The fish, a symbol for anyone who has
dealt with difficulties during their life, will persevere even while the outside world continues its
routine. The world will never stop for one person or, in this case, an animal from the poem, "The
Fish." All other people follow through with their daily tasks and the sun still shines in the morning.
Comparably, in "The Fish," the crickets went on with their chatter and the soft rain incessantly fell
on the leaves and in the lake. Although neither of these setting features were straightforwardly

Maya Angelou : The Impact Of Rainbows In The World
We watched a video of Maya Angelou discussing how people have had an effect her life. She shares
with us that as she has had difficulties in her life. She talks about how there have been people that
have been "rainbows" in her clouds. The clouds being her difficulties, and the rainbows being the
people that have helped her in some way. These rainbows stayed with her and helped her be her best
rainbow for others. I was very moved by this video. Maya Angelou has obviously risen above the
negativity and encourages everyone to do the same. We all do normal things. We go to the store, we
stop to buy coffee. Do we ever stop to think about the interactions that happen as we go about our
day? What would happen if we took the extra minute to compliment a smile? To let someone know
you appreciate the coffee? Yes, you paid for it but it doesn't hurt to appreciate the person who is
making it. That person might be having a bad day. One positive might help her get thru that hard
day. I think we can all implement Mayas rainbow idea just by being better people. Saying please,
and thank you is a start. You don't have to know someone to be a rainbow to be a rainbow to them. I
have had many personal rainbows. Another personal rainbow is my friend Jackie, who reminds me
of what I have when I find my depression taking over. I tend to be really hard on myself. She will
ground me. Jackie is a very no–nonsense woman and I love and respect her so much. My current

Theme Of The Rainbow Fish Essay
Have you ever imagined what it would be like to be beautiful then give all of it up for your friends?
That is exactly what the rainbow fish did! Rainbow fish shows us what friendship and selflessness
really is. When the he most beautiful fish in the ocean is asked to share one of his shining scales
with a little blue fish, he refuses. Rainbow fish is then left with no friends and his only way to gain
happiness is to share. Rainbow Fish the gives all his beautiful scales, except for one. In the end, he
is less beautiful then he was before, but he has new friends and is now the happiest fish in the sea.
Marcus Pfister displays the theme of friendship and sharing in The
Rainbow Fish through the use of the main character. This is a book all about a fish finding ... Show

In the book, the main character shows that you don't have to be beautiful to experience happiness
and have friends. Rainbow fish, the main character, was selfish and vain but found happiness and
friendship when he shared and made others happy. When the rainbow fish realized the only way to
be happy is to make friends and to share his scales he was scared and said he didn't want to because
he believed they made him happy. He started by giving only one tiny scale. Sharing made him so
happy he wanted to do it again. Through giving away his prized possessions, his scales, he then
found friendships and happiness without his glimmering scales.
Even after the fact rainbow fish was no longer the most beautiful fish in the sea he was still beautiful
to his friends even after all but one of his scales were gone his outer beauty may have not been as it
was once was but his happiness shined through like no other fish.
The rainbow fish didn't think he could be happy without his beautiful shinny scales but when he
shared he was happier than ever. Near the end of the book the rainbow fish shared

The Rainbow Six Siege By Tom Clancy
There is a plethora of shooting games out in the world today. They come on virtually every platform
from cell phones to Computers and Xbox's. Many good games are overlooked for the more
mainstream ones such as "Call of Duty" whose games are extremely popular but at best subpar. One
of the best new shooters on the market today is "Rainbow six Siege". One of many games in the
Rainbow six saga, Siege is the newest addition to Tom Clancy's brainchild tactical shooter series.
The game features realistic five on five tactical combat between two teams. One of the teams
attacks, while the other defends. Rainbow six's graphics are amazing for a console game and really
has the power to immerse a casual gamer. Rainbow also has a perfect formula for mixing in
futuristic gadgets with real counter terrorism style combat in small environments such as residential
houses and large yachts. Every operator has there own special gadget to gain the edge in combat and
trying to guess which operators the enemy team will use is crucial to survival. That being said, you
do not make it very far in Rainbow six without some sort of team work and collaboration as opposed
to shooters such as Call of Duty that have more of a "one vs. all" run and gun mentality. As the game
is rated M for mature by the ESRB, You will need to be over eighteen to purchase it. The strong
rating is due to blood, drug references, strong language and violence, which some parents may find

The Death Of The Rainbow By Ntozake Shange
Life can be full of hardship, deceit, and catastrophe. In life, everyone struggles to stay afloat the
tsunami of troubles flooding them. However, some people struggle more than others, and some
people face much tougher encumbrances. In For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide /
When The Rainbow Is Enuf, Ntozake Shange shows each woman struggling to overcome a
troubling past that leads them to question the value of their own lives. In order to free themselves
from the issues suffocating them, they must eliminate the suffering part of themselves and unite to
be reborn as stronger women. This is expressed through the predominant idea of suicide throughout
the piece. Suicide can be defined as the act of killing oneself with intention. As drastic as this may
sound, it can be perceived that Shange's play was not focusing on suicide in a literal term. Instead,
she was focusing primarily on suicide in a figurative way. Suicide was used as a metaphor to
illustrate the death of the traumatized parts of the women. The women in Shange's play lived their
lives plagued with tragedy and abuse. In a sense, each woman had an experience that could truly
justify committing suicide; however, the women beat the odds, and in the end they unite to prevail
over the burdens affecting them. Most of the women in Shange's play were victims of heinous
crimes. For example, the lady in red states: "Women relinquish all personal rights/in the presence of
a man/who apparently cd be considered a

Rainbow Formation Research Paper
Everyone enjoys the site of a rainbow expected after it rains on a sunny day; however, although a
rainbow formation is basic optics and geometry, it is highly misunderstood. Many understand the
appearance due to dispersion of light, but most do not realize what that entitles. What most people
do not expect when looking at a rainbow is that it moves as the observer moves (Cartwright, 1992).
Shown in the photo to the left, is a rainbow taken along the countryside in Missoula, Montana. To
further discuss how a rainbow works, one must understand the reflection–refraction theories that
cause such a formation. A wave theory of light developed by Auguste Fresnel describes the bands
that are located beneath a rainbow, which are not as visible ... Show more content on

Rays of light come from a fixed direction as bundles, which always are red–proving a greater
concentration of light from that fixed direction. This ray is called a caustic ray (Bim 1999). As the
height y of an incident ray increases from 0, the deflection of the outgoing ray decreases towards the
caustic ray, causing the y to pass the caustic ray, and the deflection increases again (Gordon de Pree,
Ph.D, 20) In specific conditions, the observer can see a secondary rainbow behind the primary
rainbow–weaker and inverse in spectra, with red on the inside and violet on the outside. According
to Cartwright's article on Rainbows, the space between red and violet, regardless of direction, is
called the Alexander's Dark band, which is noticeably darker than its surroundings. This way of
looking at the matter along the direction of minimum deviation is shown to be equivalent to
Mascart's approximate method of explanation of the formation of the supernumerary bows by
interference of disturbances coming from the two poles on the special wave–form is the
consequence of the interference of cusped waves, used by George Biddell Airy (Morton,

Reflection On Light And How Light Bendss In The Whitehouse
This following science lab reflection is about light and how it bends while it travels from one thing
to another. Our main goal for this lab was to discover how light bends. But the problem is that we
have to break–in and get past laser security in the Whitehouse. I hypothesised that, if we can bend
the light around us then we will be able to get past the laser security. If we shine water at the light
then the light will bend better and we will be able to get past the laser security and into the
Whitehouse. In this lab we used the mediums: air, water, and glass. We also used prisms, such as a
circle, square, and triangle. These materials all helped us figure out, which was the best to bend the
light with. What we did to find these results was through a computer simulation to test the way the
light bends with others objects and prisms. This is a short summary about what we did and used for
this Science Lab. When conducting this Lab we found many interesting findings. A few findings
were that when the light from the air hit the water the angle of refraction decreased to 22o compared
to the angle of incident/reflection of 30o. The opposite occurred when the light from the water hit
the air. The angle of refraction increased drastically to 42o when still compared at 30o angle of
incident/reflection. With the light from air to the glass, the angle of refraction decreased a lot to 19o
with the 30o angle of reflection/incident. Things I can say after these results are that the

The Wedding Of Ursula Essay
When telling the story of Ursula's childhood, Lawrence tells us early on that, "Ursula was the one
for realities." (259). From this point it is apparent that her story is going to be different. While she
relies on the hard realities of life and is very caught up in the things outside of her, her mind–body
conscious self is just as active as Tom or Anna's. In fact, it may be even stronger for her because she
seems to be more aware of it: "She became aware of herself, that she was a separate entity in the
midst of an unseparated obscurity, that she must go somewhere, she must become something."
(Lawrence 281). She has her first experience with love at an early age, when she encounters Anton
Skrebensky. At one point during their courtship, Anton comes to the wedding of Ursula's uncle,
Fred, and Ursula has a very distinct experience similar to the one her mother Anna had in the
cornfield. "At the touch of her hand on his arm, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Skrebensky's, but it is always separate. The moon has some deeper significance for her, as it did for
Anna, as it pierces the darkness, entering and becoming her

The Greenpeace Ship, The Rainbow Warrior
On the 10th of July 1985, the Greenpeace ship, the Rainbow Warrior was anchored at Marsden
wharf in Auckland New Zealand. Ready to confront French nuclear testing in the Moruroa atoll.
In an attempt to counteract the protests and campaigning of the flagship that represented New
Zealand 's movement against nuclear testing in the Pacific, France bombed and sunk the Greenpeace
vessel the Rainbow Warrior. The bombing simply done to prolong threats against France's nuclear
testing in the pacific, and to allow for their nuclear testing to run smoothly without protest. Without
Greenpeace protest, attention to France's nuclear testing would be minimised and allow for them to
continue without dispute.
Operation Satanique, code name for the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior, used by the french foreign
intelligence services, was the first state terrorism act on New Zealand soils.
By arriving to New Zealand on yacht, the Ouvea crew were able to illegally bring into New Zealand
the two limpet mines used to sink the Rainbow Warrior. In diving gear two of the DSGE agents
(Directorate General for External Security), just minutes before midnight attached two separate
bombs to the The two explosives were placed deliberately on the hull of the ship, just below water
line to inflict as much damage possible to the 40 metre long ship.
Both bombs were detonated ten minutes apart. The first bomb went off at 11:38 pm, the first
explosion was intended to encourage any on board to evacuate to safety.

Drawing: A Little Girl Stretching her Hand to Touch the...
These days, many people are thinking about "Why am I suffering?" or "Life is so difficult."
Probably there are times when people don't want to go on with life because life just keeps on getting
harder and harder. However, this picture can help soothe people. It says "Everyone wants happiness
nobody wants pain but you can't have a rainbow without a little rain." In this picture, we see a girl's
hand stretching out to feel the rain. It seems that she is prepared to go to the heavy rain and the
background is rather blue and cloudy. This shows us that the girl is ready to go to the rain so that
later, she can see the rainbow. The font type is pretty blue and seems really glum. Also, if you see
the font, the font is more focused but blends well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So I think the author did a good job conveying the message with the rain. The context sounds pretty
persuasive, and the font makes the overall ambience gloomier and blends well with the background.
The font makes it gloomier by making the font dark and black. In addition, the thickness and a bit
smudged writing add some extra sad detail to the picture. Furthermore, the words are all in lower
case letter and have no punctuations. The author didn't put punctuations because the author wanted
to convey that life will keep on going and a period means a stop. But the author is saying that this
endless cycle of life will happen until the end of your life. So he wanted to emphasize how
important life is.
Although this picture and message sounds hopeful, there may be a hidden message to the picture. In
simple terms, many people think that the rain is actually pain and rainbow is happiness; however, if
you look at the picture deeper, then you can realize something totally different. Rain is not just pain,
but rain can be something valuable. Without rain, life wouldn't exist. Every living thing on earth
needs rain to survive. It nourishes all living organisms including plants and it also purifies us from
the dirty stains. But at the same time, rain can be detrimental. If there is too much rain, it can cause
flooding, which leads to soil erosion, and killing living things by drowning

The Theory On Rainbow Formation And The Mechanics Of Them...
Rainbows and the mechanics of them have been studied since ancient times. Greek philosophers had
some understanding of the role of refraction, scientists in the 13th century produced theories on
rainbow formation, and in the 17th century, Rene Descartes sketched out the conditions required to
observe a rainbow (Douma).
There are two key aspects that affect a rainbow, and these include the altitude of the sun and the size
of the raindrops. The colors of the rainbow are because of two basic facts:
Sunlight is made up of the whole range of colors that the eye can detect. The range of sunlight
colors, when combined, looks white to the eye. This property of sunlight was first demonstrated by
Sir Isaac Newton in 1666.
Light of different colors is refracted by different amounts when it passes from one medium (air, for
example) into another (water or glass, for example) (University Corporation for Atmospheric
Research).
Determining whether or not the wavelengths will go through the raindrops or reflect depends on the
angle that the light falls on the backside of the raindrop. Each rain droplet has a function in the
formation of the rainbow. Sunlight enters the rain droplet at a specific angle and the rain droplet
separates the white light into many different colors. This angle is a fixed measurement between your
eye and the sun. What color that is refracted is dependent on the critical angle, the angle the sunlight
strikes the back of the rain droplet (Mahlen). Red

Physics of Rainbows Essay
When the Sun's light is refracted on passing through tiny rain droplets falling in the air a Rainbow is
formed. Rainbows only need light from the sun or the moon and a large amount of spherical
raindrops to form in the atmosphere. The rainbows can be compared to mini prisms. The light is
refracted ("bending of light as it passes from one medium to another") and it causes different
wavelengths (or colors) of the white light to separate. Whether these wavelengths of light will pass
through the raindrop or reflect depends on the angle the light strikes the back of the raindrop. If a
wavelength of the light strikes the back of the raindrop at an angle less than 48 degree relative to the
normal then the light will pass through the raindrop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact a rainbow is made up of the entire spectrum of colors from red to violet and beyond to the
ultraviolet and infrared sections of the spectrum, which the eye is not capable of detecting.
The speed of the wavelength of white light before it hits the raindrop determines the color a raindrop
will emit. If the wavelength of white light travels at a slow speed, then the wavelength of light will
bend more when it enters the raindrop.
Wavelength of the color violet is bent the most when it enters the raindrop. While red light is bent the
least when it enters the raindrop. The violet light will emerge from the raindrop at an angle of 40
degrees relative to the observer's line of sight. While red light will emerge at an angle of 42 degrees.
Thus, violet light has the shortest wavelength. Red, being at the opposite edge, has the longest
wavelength. Moving from the violet edge through the colors to red at the opposite edge the
wavelength gets longer. Other colors of the spectrum can be seen in between 40 and 42 degrees
relative to the observer's line of sight. It is important to note that only one color of light is emitted
from each raindrop. A large amount of raindrops produce a wide spectrum of colors of a rainbow.
There are certain colors which cannot be seen by the eye. This is why the observer sees four to five
solid colors of a rainbow. The color bands of a rainbow always have the same order since the shorter
wavelengths of light are refracted

Analysis Of Lee 's ' The Great Gatsby ' By F. Scott...
At the age of 1 to 16, there is one odd girl who had turned my world upside down. Daphne Lee was
born on February 5th, 1997. She lived in Colorado with her parents and little brother. From the
outside, she seems completely ordinary, but not so much on the inside. She does not have any
problems mentally or physically, though I am surprised she does not. She has changed my
perspective on everything. Her obligation to rainbow bunnies can be a bit bizarre, but her persona is
wonderful and bright if you are ever in need of some sunshine. Her actions can be embarrassing and
troublesome, but that is what makes her different from the rest of the world.

Even during the summer, she will wear them with her sandals. Nothing looks wrong with her feet,
she just really loves socks. They are not the ordinary kinds of socks, though. Sadly they are the
kiddy kind. She has two drawers filled entirely with them. From my perspective, it seems like she
has enough to last her for two years. Periodically she chooses to speak a different language. One day
she speaks English, the next day Spanish, etc. and gibberish eventually. Her taste in music is very
interesting because she seemed like the kind of person who liked happy songs, but she actually likes
very dark music such as metal and screamo. My cousin is very different from our other relatives I
have met, yet that is what I like about her.
In public, she gets really crazy. Not just a little crazy but hyper crazy. She is constantly up and
about. She is not afraid to blare her music for the whole world to hear. People are usually looking
over their shoulders, their attention to the creepy dancing ballerina bunny. I try to keep my distance.
When there is candy involved, there is more crazy to come. She gets as mad as a hatter; Singing,
skipping, hopping, and running around in circles. When nonsense talking becomes involved, I
usually speed walk to the car while she runs to catch up to me with her bunny ears flopping up and
down. The positive side of this crazy girl is that people get to have a good laugh. Her feelings will

The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop Summary
Elizabeth Bishop's poem, "The Fish," details an account of someone's experience catching a fish.
The person catching the fish, presumed as the narrator, describes the fish's intricate details which
essentially gives it an ugly appearance. In an explication of "The Fish" from Bedford St. Martin's,
the analyzer also notes how the narrator's descriptions yield an ugly appearance of the fish, but with
further observation, the narrator realizes the beauty deep within the fish and the fact that the fish is a
warrior. The ugly description of the outside of the fish may correlate with how some people tend to
make a quick judgment based on someone's appearance without taking the time to think about what
their personality or characteristics include. Or even to think about what that person has been through
that has caused them to look that way. Evidently, as the poem continues, the narrator reveals that the
fish has been through at least five battles, according to the physical scars left in its jaw. The fish, a
symbol for anyone who has dealt with difficulties during their life, will persevere even while the
outside world continues its routine. The world will never stop for one person or, in this case, an
animal from the poem, "The Fish." All other people follow through with their daily tasks and the sun
still shines in the morning. Comparably, in "The Fish," the crickets went on with their chatter and
the soft rain incessantly fell on the leaves and in the lake. Although neither of

The Tunnel By William Gass
Some people believe that lies will always be bitter in the end, no matter how sweet you make them
in the beginning. In William Gass' The Tunnel, he expounds the validity of this belief by taking the
reader on an emotionally evolving journey, as he recounts the self–realization of a young boy, who's
frightening lie unravels in front of not only his own eyes, but also the readers. Gass successfully
enriches this story with striking imagery, symbolism, and comparisons; exposing how no matter
how sweet you make a lie in the beginning, it will always turn bitter in the end.
The first paragraph plays an imperative role in the excerpt, for it introduces the reader to the
emotional despondency of the boy. William Gass successfully strikes the reader from the beginning,
for his two word opening, "lime slush" (line 1), prompts the reader to not only envisage a lime slush,
but also taste its sugary sweetness. However, the sweetness this imagery provides is short lasting,
for they are soon bombarded with countless caesuras, as he describes how "slush is supposed to be
water. That's what slush is. It certainly isn't sherbet! It wasn't a nice green. And there didn't seem to
be that much of it." (lines 2–3). The disappointment that entrenches the boy in these short but
concrete statements, successfully introduces the reader to his emotional bitterness, for not even the
lime slush's sweetness can sweeten it. The colour imagery does not stop there, for he describes how

Rainbow Fish Book Analysis
Text: The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister
Grade level equivalent: Pre–K and Kinder
Genre: Picture Book
Synopsis: It is a picture book about a Fish, named Rainbow Fish, who thinks he is too beautiful to
hang out with all the other fish. As a result, Rainbow Fish ends up lonely. At the end, Rainbow Fish
learns that it is better to have friends than to be prideful.
Demands of the Text
Genre/organizational demands: Picture books are books that contain many illustrations, especially
for children. The illustrations are as important (or, in some cases, even more important than) the
words in the story. My students will need to understand that pictures usually add to the text of the
story. They will also need to understand that text represents spoken words. Thus, my students need
to be able to interpret pictures and be able to recognize one–to–one correspondence between a
written word and a spoken word.
Background knowledge demands: For this book, students must know what fish and scales are. They
will also need to know that fish live under the sea.
High–level Thinking about the Text While I am reading this book aloud, I will ask critical thinking
questions, using the upper and lower end of Bloom's Taxonomy. Some of the questions that I will
ask are the following:
1. Can someone describe Rainbow Fish for me?
2. What is one of the descriptive words that the author uses?
3. Why did the author say this?
4. What is going on in this scene?
5. How do someone's character traits affect how they act or what they say?
6. Can someone give me a summary of this story or tell me what it is about?
Lesson Objectives
Textual objective:
During the text–based discussion, the student will discuss what the main character in the story said,
looked like, acted like, and felt like.
Strategy objective:
At the end of this minilesson, the students will be able to identify the 4 different character traits and
give at least 1 example of each with 70 percent accuracy.
PART II: LESSON NARRATIVE
1. Introduction

Scene Analysis : Over The Rainbow
Unaccompanied, the song "Over the Rainbow" tells the story of a girl dreaming of a world that is
not her own. But with visual aids and closer attention to the nuances in instrumentation, the song
reveals an uncomfortable duality – that between pursuing one's dreams and staying close to home.
The shot composition of the scene in which Dorothy sings "Over the Rainbow" tells a story itself.
The scene is composed of one brief shot and two long takes, the first of which is centered on
Dorothy throughout. Suddenly, abruptly, the scene cuts mid–sentence to a smiling Toto who is
wagging his tail. Initially, the cut seems to serve no purpose – it does not further the narrative, nor
does it come into play later. But a keen eye, or ear rather, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This foreshadows that Dorothy will no longer crave the radical freedom that she is singing about
once she has experienced a different world. Interestingly, the scene ends with Dorothy singing "Why
then, oh why can't I?" which is in the minor key, representing Kansas. This subtlety foreshadows
Dorothy's decision to return home after successfully escaping to Oz.
Before Dorothy even begins to sing, the song is introduced by a fluty melody that is reminiscent of
birds chirping. Birdsong is an explicit indicator of the natural world, and is often associated with
tranquility. This serene melody, coupled with the look of wonder on Dorothy's face, helps
communicate that Dorothy is journeying to a new world – one of her own creation, that is peaceful
and distinct from her life in Kansas. As soon as Dorothy belts out her first note, the melody
immediately drops to middle C, and the remaining sections of the orchestra join in, creating a much
richer, fuller sound than the ethereal "chirping" that preceded it, as if the melody is returning from
the fantastical world that Dorothy has dreamed up. Yet, a mere 2 beats later, Dorothy returns to her
imaginative dream that is associated with a higher pitch, by jumping an entire octave. In this jump,
Dorothy reaches C that is between middle C and high C, and the melody is left unfulfilled – it is as
if she is trying to reach high C, but is not quite there. Dorothy is caught

He has a terrible personality, but we all can change.
The rainbow fish is confused. He does not understand why nobody likes him. And he thinks the only
thing to life is beauty. When he said no to the little fish he told everyone and now they do not want
to be friends with a mean fish. The rainbow fish does not understand this. He doesn't think he can be
happy without his scales. He asked the starfish "I'm so beautiful. Why doesn't anybody like me?"
(paragraph 6) . He did not understand why so he was asking the starfish why everyone disliked him.
Also after the wise octopus told him what to do the rainbowfish said quietly to himself "Give away
my scales? My beautiful shining scales? Never.
How could I ever be happy without them?"(paragraph 8). He is also confused here because he does
not think he can be happy without his beauty. The rainbow fish is weary of the octopus's instructions
but he wants to be happy.
The rainbowfish figures out that happiness is not about beauty. Its about being with people, or fish
who make your life great. The rainbow fish gave one of his scales to the little fish, he felt something

soldiers were sure that the seven daughter were safe, they went back to join the war.
The sky was bruised with a swell of dark clouds on the western horizon. Time passed, the battle was
still broke out. The King was cornered and his warriors decreased in number. Hegel Kingdom was
completely destroyed. Many died during the war. Seeing the ruins of his people, He tried to find a
way to stop this war.
One day, King Hernandez heard that prince Mitch and his warriors having party near the river.
Music rises along with the sweet sound of the singers, people ate and laugh, the atmosphere is heat

Judy Garland's Over The Rainbow
When the tune of "Over the Rainbow", also known as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", is heard,
many people can recognize the lyrics of the nostalgic song. The original singer of the song was Judy
Garland. "Over the Rainbow" speaks a message that can speak to any person which has led to
numerous artists covering this song on many different occasions. Two other singers that have
covered this song are Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and Jerry Lee Lewis. Each artist can bring their own
personal emotions into their performance of "Over the Rainbow" leading to a beautiful song that
impacts the lives of many. "Over the Rainbow" was first performed by Judy Garland in her role of
Dorothy in the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. The song was composed by Harold Arlen for the
movie (The Official ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He put his own twist on his cover by combining "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with Louis
Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World". His rendition of this song used only an ukulele, a string
instrument often associated with Hawaiian music. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole was a Hawaiian and
Reggae singer which would help to explain his use of an ukulele. An interesting fact about his
version of "Over the Rainbow" comes from the comment of Milan Bertosa, owner of a Honolulu,
Hawaii recording studio. According to Bertosa, he received a call in the middle of the night from a
client asking if Israel Kamakawiwo'ole could come in and record a song (Montagne). Bertosa
reluctantly agreed and stated that, "I put up some microphones, do a quick sound check, roll tape,
and the first thing he does is 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.' He played and sang, one take, and it
was over"" (Montagne). Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's cover of "Over the Rainbow" was recorded in one
session and has become one of his most beloved

Rainbow Fish Book Reports
Have you ever felt like you don't belong or that you're alone in the big wide world we live in? Well
if you have then you know exactly how the rainbow fish feels during this story.
Hi my name as you know is Kiara Zerafa and the book I'm reviewing is the Rainbow Fish by
Marcus Pfister. This book is an amazing read about the most beautiful fish in the sea. Now, being the
most beautiful fish in the sea you think he would be happy, wouldn't you? I'm sorry to tell you but in
fact the rainbow fish grows sad and lonely during this story, I'll explain more about that later but
first, lets discover, who is the rainbow fish?
The main character is the Rainbow Fish and though out this story you see his character evolve from
rude and arrogant to a caring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plot of this story in a nutshell is that none of the other fish like the rainbow fish as all they think
he is selfish (haha) because he won't give away his scales. The rainbow fish grows lonely until
eventually he shares his scales and becomes the happiest fish in the sea. The symbol I have chosen
to represent the plot of this story is a torch. A torch you might think, what's that got to do with this
story? It doesn't represent the exact story line, but more the journey on which the rainbow fish takes
during it. With a torch as you know, it has the handle, then the light bulb and then the actual light.
Well the handle of the torch could show the beginning of this story, when the rainbow fish is rude to
the other fish around her. As no light has been switched on yet its like he doesn't know how arrogant
he is acting until he comes to the middle of the story, which is represented by the light bulb in the
torch. This is because it isn't until the rainbow fish goes and talks to the wise octopus that he
understands how bad his attitude is affecting his life style. This could be considered the light bulb
moment in the story where the rainbow fish decides he has to set things right. Now after the light
bulb gets turned on it produces light, this final part of the torch represents the final part of the story
when the rainbow fish is happy because he shared his scales with what were now his friends. The
light could be the representation of a new perspective in the rainbow fish's

Over The Rainbow Analysis

  • 1. Over The Rainbow Analysis "Over the Rainbow," or popularly known as "Somewhere over the Rainbow" is a poignant ballad expressing a deep longing and hope of an escape from the worldly troubles. The song was originally written for the 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, with its music created by Harold Arlen and lyrics by Yip Harburg. It won the Best Original Song in the Academy Awards on the same year. "Over the Rainbow" is one of the greatest American standards of the 20th century, a cultural gem significant for preservation. The song also ranked first in the Songs of the Century List, the result of a survey of America's musical and cultural heritage. Since then, many covers had been recorded by artists who had their own unique interpretation of the musical piece. Judy Garland's rendition of the song reminds me of my dad's collection of 1940s records. She sings in a soft, melodic voice reflective of the musical style in that era. The tempo is slow, the vocals are more emphasized than the orchestra's instrumentation. Garland's original version of the song is best remembered because of her role as Dorothy Gale in "The Wizard of Oz." In the movie, she sang about "the place where she won't get into trouble." The song captured the hearts of the audience since it was a symbolic piece where many individuals can relate to. The dreams of the ideal and the hope of a brighter future was evident in the song. Somehow, "Over the Rainbow" mirrored the life of the artist making it her own as Garland struggled with her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I'm your guide Rainbow Slash, and I'm the in charge of teaching the slaves at the factory. If you are wondering how I got that name, well let's just say it's deserved and leave it at that." "But this video isn't about me as awesome as that would be! This video series hopes to teach you how to care for, discipline, your pony friend. I'm more focused on mentally breaking and training ponies, so if you are looking for cooking advice, go ask Darth Pie." So they weren 't the best drawings in the world, but that didn 't matter to Cas. He nodded his head a little in time with the music that was pouring out from his headphones, gazing over the sight he was sketching. There was a water fountain in his town that overlooked one of the busiest streets in his town. Every minute or so the sidewalk separating the road from the fountain would erupt in spontaneous explosions of water. There was a sprinkler system along the path that to Cas was so beautiful to watch. Every time the water started to spray ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he 'd told his father it had not been a happy day in the Novak family. Cas was ignored, his announcement taken as some kind of sick joke. His father had banished him from ever talking about being gay again. After months of explaining, his father had finally acknowledged that Cas was telling the truth. He was never allowed to mention it again, his father had told him, or he 'd no longer be his son. On this particular day, all Cas ' father would talk about was 'those disgusting homos ' and he 'd looked like he was about to be sick when they came down the road. Cas had snapped. He dropped his fathers groceries and started to move towards the happy crowd. His father had not said a word to him, but his face said it all. 5 years later and Cas was still yet to hear his fathers voice. Cas had joined in a row of people who all had rainbows drawn on their face and a few small banners between them. A very beautiful red headed girl around his own age had greeted him with nothing but warmness. The boy next to her had a rainbow wig on a mask on. The instant the pain subsided Kohen unbuckled himself and rushed to Bergess' side to see if she was all right. We stopped at my grandpa's farm. "We better put the horses away" I said as I dismounted. "Yeah" Anna said while we walked to the stalls. Anna and I are best friends. We have been riding for many years at my grandpa's farm. We were both 15 and started to ride at 5. • 12. The Rainbow Fish By Marcus Pfiter In my final picture book read aloud, I am going to read The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister. The main element of craft that I am going to highlight are the illustrations. The illustrations play a very important role in this book because it catches the children's attention and helps bring the book to life. In The Rainbow Fish, a fish, named Rainbow Fish, has the most beautiful sliver scales that sparkle and shine (Pfister 4). However, Rainbow Fish is proud and selfish, and does not want to share his beautiful scales with the other fish (Pfister 8–11). So the other fish ignore Rainbow Fish and leave him all by his lonesome self (Pfister 11). Later on, Rainbow Fish gets some advice from the all–knowing octopus (Pfister 14). The octopus tells Rainbow Fish that he will be happy if he shares all of his scales (Pfister 14–16). So Rainbow Fish takes his advice and shares all of his scales with all the other fish (Pfister 24). At the end, Rainbow Fish learns how to make friends by sharing his most prized scales (Pfister 27). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 14. The Power Of Giving In The Rainbow Fish, By Marcus Pfister The Rainbow Fish, written and illustrated by Marcus Pfister, is a children's story about the power of giving. The most important detail in this book is the powerful and important message that shines through in the story. After reading the book, we realize that the effect of giving is sometimes even more of a gift to the one who is doing the giving. After all it is better to give than to receive. The general themes that one might interpret in Pfister's story are sharing, giving, and selflessness, or one might see themes of vanity, value, self–worth, and pride. The text is very rich with description. The author makes it easy to imagine the beauty of the Rainbow fish even without the illustrations. He uses adjectives like "dazzling, shimmering, and sparkling" as he describes what all the other fish see as they admire the beautiful fish swimming past them. He describes the fish as "silent and proud." Most people can relate to a situation in their own lives where they might have encountered a person like the Rainbow Fish. As the reader reads the text of the story, they will most likely find it easy to relate to the feelings of the little blue fish. They might also find themselves rooting for the Rainbow Fish and wanting him to figure out how to solve his dilemma so that he can make some friends and finally find happiness. The story is very easy to read. There is not a great amount of text and therefore it can hold the attention of a younger child or make a great book ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite all of the dreams and the steps that black women took to reach them they always seemed to be shattered by some heartless lover or destroyed at the hand of the white folk. • 20. Analysis Of The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop When Elizabeth Bishop writes a poem of someone's experience catching a fish, the person catching the fish, presumed as the narrator, describes the fish's intricate details which essentially gives it an ugly appearance. In an explication of "The Fish," the analyzer also notes how the narrator's descriptions yield an ugly appearance of the fish, but with further observation, the narrator realizes the beauty deep within the fish and the fact that the fish is a warrior. The ugly description of the outside of the fish correlates with how some people tend to make a quick judgment based on someone's appearance without taking the time to think about what their personality or characteristics include. Or even to think about what that person has been through that has caused them to look that way. Evidently, as the poem continues, the narrator reveals that the fish has been through at least five battles, according to the physical scars left in its jaw. The fish, a symbol for anyone who has dealt with difficulties during their life, will persevere even while the outside world continues its routine. The world will never stop for one person or, in this case, an animal from the poem, "The Fish." All other people follow through with their daily tasks and the sun still shines in the morning. Comparably, in "The Fish," the crickets went on with their chatter and the soft rain incessantly fell on the leaves and in the lake. She shares with us that as she has had difficulties in her life. She talks about how there have been people that have been "rainbows" in her clouds. The clouds being her difficulties, and the rainbows being the people that have helped her in some way. These rainbows stayed with her and helped her be her best rainbow for others. I was very moved by this video. Maya Angelou has obviously risen above the negativity and encourages everyone to do the same. We all do normal things. We go to the store, we stop to buy coffee. Do we ever stop to think about the interactions that happen as we go about our day? What would happen if we took the extra minute to compliment a smile? To let someone know you appreciate the coffee? Yes, you paid for it but it doesn't hurt to appreciate the person who is making it. That person might be having a bad day. One positive might help her get thru that hard day. I think we can all implement Mayas rainbow idea just by being better people. Saying please, and thank you is a start. You don't have to know someone to be a rainbow to be a rainbow to them. I have had many personal rainbows. Another personal rainbow is my friend Jackie, who reminds me of what I have when I find my depression taking over. I tend to be really hard on myself. Many good games are overlooked for the more mainstream ones such as "Call of Duty" whose games are extremely popular but at best subpar. One of the best new shooters on the market today is "Rainbow six Siege". One of many games in the Rainbow six saga, Siege is the newest addition to Tom Clancy's brainchild tactical shooter series. The game features realistic five on five tactical combat between two teams. One of the teams attacks, while the other defends. Rainbow six's graphics are amazing for a console game and really has the power to immerse a casual gamer. Every operator has there own special gadget to gain the edge in combat and trying to guess which operators the enemy team will use is crucial to survival. • 32. The Death Of The Rainbow By Ntozake Shange Life can be full of hardship, deceit, and catastrophe. In life, everyone struggles to stay afloat the tsunami of troubles flooding them. However, some people struggle more than others, and some people face much tougher encumbrances. In For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When The Rainbow Is Enuf, Ntozake Shange shows each woman struggling to overcome a troubling past that leads them to question the value of their own lives. In order to free themselves from the issues suffocating them, they must eliminate the suffering part of themselves and unite to be reborn as stronger women. This is expressed through the predominant idea of suicide throughout the piece. Suicide can be defined as the act of killing oneself with intention. As drastic as this may sound, it can be perceived that Shange's play was not focusing on suicide in a literal term. Instead, she was focusing primarily on suicide in a figurative way. Suicide was used as a metaphor to illustrate the death of the traumatized parts of the women. The women in Shange's play lived their lives plagued with tragedy and abuse. In a sense, each woman had an experience that could truly justify committing suicide; however, the women beat the odds, and in the end they unite to prevail over the burdens affecting them. Most of the women in Shange's play were victims of heinous crimes. For example, the lady in red states: "Women relinquish all personal rights/in the presence of a man/who apparently cd be considered a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Rainbow Formation Research Paper Everyone enjoys the site of a rainbow expected after it rains on a sunny day; however, although a rainbow formation is basic optics and geometry, it is highly misunderstood. Many understand the appearance due to dispersion of light, but most do not realize what that entitles. What most people do not expect when looking at a rainbow is that it moves as the observer moves (Cartwright, 1992). Shown in the photo to the left, is a rainbow taken along the countryside in Missoula, Montana. To further discuss how a rainbow works, one must understand the reflection–refraction theories that cause such a formation. A wave theory of light developed by Auguste Fresnel describes the bands that are located beneath a rainbow, which are not as visible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rays of light come from a fixed direction as bundles, which always are red–proving a greater concentration of light from that fixed direction. This ray is called a caustic ray (Bim 1999). As the height y of an incident ray increases from 0, the deflection of the outgoing ray decreases towards the caustic ray, causing the y to pass the caustic ray, and the deflection increases again (Gordon de Pree, Ph.D, 20) In specific conditions, the observer can see a secondary rainbow behind the primary rainbow–weaker and inverse in spectra, with red on the inside and violet on the outside. According to Cartwright's article on Rainbows, the space between red and violet, regardless of direction, is called the Alexander's Dark band, which is noticeably darker than its surroundings. This way of looking at the matter along the direction of minimum deviation is shown to be equivalent to Mascart's approximate method of explanation of the formation of the supernumerary bows by interference of disturbances coming from the two poles on the special wave–form is the consequence of the interference of cusped waves, used by George Biddell Airy (Morton, ... Our main goal for this lab was to discover how light bends. But the problem is that we have to break–in and get past laser security in the Whitehouse. I hypothesised that, if we can bend the light around us then we will be able to get past the laser security. If we shine water at the light then the light will bend better and we will be able to get past the laser security and into the Whitehouse. In this lab we used the mediums: air, water, and glass. We also used prisms, such as a circle, square, and triangle. These materials all helped us figure out, which was the best to bend the light with. What we did to find these results was through a computer simulation to test the way the light bends with others objects and prisms. This is a short summary about what we did and used for this Science Lab. When conducting this Lab we found many interesting findings. A few findings were that when the light from the air hit the water the angle of refraction decreased to 22o compared to the angle of incident/reflection of 30o. The opposite occurred when the light from the water hit the air. The angle of refraction increased drastically to 42o when still compared at 30o angle of incident/reflection. With the light from air to the glass, the angle of refraction decreased a lot to 19o with the 30o angle of reflection/incident. Things I can say after these results are that the ... From this point it is apparent that her story is going to be different. While she relies on the hard realities of life and is very caught up in the things outside of her, her mind–body conscious self is just as active as Tom or Anna's. In fact, it may be even stronger for her because she seems to be more aware of it: "She became aware of herself, that she was a separate entity in the midst of an unseparated obscurity, that she must go somewhere, she must become something." (Lawrence 281). She has her first experience with love at an early age, when she encounters Anton Skrebensky. • 46. Drawing: A Little Girl Stretching her Hand to Touch the... These days, many people are thinking about "Why am I suffering?" or "Life is so difficult." Probably there are times when people don't want to go on with life because life just keeps on getting harder and harder. However, this picture can help soothe people. It says "Everyone wants happiness nobody wants pain but you can't have a rainbow without a little rain." In this picture, we see a girl's hand stretching out to feel the rain. It seems that she is prepared to go to the heavy rain and the background is rather blue and cloudy. This shows us that the girl is ready to go to the rain so that later, she can see the rainbow. The font type is pretty blue and seems really glum. Also, if you see the font, the font is more focused but blends well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So I think the author did a good job conveying the message with the rain. The context sounds pretty persuasive, and the font makes the overall ambience gloomier and blends well with the background. The font makes it gloomier by making the font dark and black. In addition, the thickness and a bit smudged writing add some extra sad detail to the picture. Furthermore, the words are all in lower case letter and have no punctuations. The author didn't put punctuations because the author wanted to convey that life will keep on going and a period means a stop. But the author is saying that this endless cycle of life will happen until the end of your life. So he wanted to emphasize how important life is. Although this picture and message sounds hopeful, there may be a hidden message to the picture. In simple terms, many people think that the rain is actually pain and rainbow is happiness; however, if you look at the picture deeper, then you can realize something totally different. Rain is not just pain, but rain can be something valuable. Without rain, life wouldn't exist. Every living thing on earth needs rain to survive. It nourishes all living organisms including plants and it also purifies us from the dirty stains. But at the same time, rain can be detrimental. If there is too much rain, it can cause flooding, which leads to soil erosion, and killing living things by drowning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. The Theory On Rainbow Formation And The Mechanics Of Them... Rainbows and the mechanics of them have been studied since ancient times. Greek philosophers had some understanding of the role of refraction, scientists in the 13th century produced theories on rainbow formation, and in the 17th century, Rene Descartes sketched out the conditions required to observe a rainbow (Douma). There are two key aspects that affect a rainbow, and these include the altitude of the sun and the size of the raindrops. The colors of the rainbow are because of two basic facts: Sunlight is made up of the whole range of colors that the eye can detect. The range of sunlight colors, when combined, looks white to the eye. This property of sunlight was first demonstrated by Sir Isaac Newton in 1666. Light of different colors is refracted by different amounts when it passes from one medium (air, for example) into another (water or glass, for example) (University Corporation for Atmospheric Research). Determining whether or not the wavelengths will go through the raindrops or reflect depends on the angle that the light falls on the backside of the raindrop. Each rain droplet has a function in the formation of the rainbow. Sunlight enters the rain droplet at a specific angle and the rain droplet separates the white light into many different colors. This angle is a fixed measurement between your eye and the sun. What color that is refracted is dependent on the critical angle, the angle the sunlight strikes the back of the rain droplet (Mahlen). • 50. Physics of Rainbows Essay When the Sun's light is refracted on passing through tiny rain droplets falling in the air a Rainbow is formed. Rainbows only need light from the sun or the moon and a large amount of spherical raindrops to form in the atmosphere. The rainbows can be compared to mini prisms. The light is refracted ("bending of light as it passes from one medium to another") and it causes different wavelengths (or colors) of the white light to separate. Whether these wavelengths of light will pass through the raindrop or reflect depends on the angle the light strikes the back of the raindrop. If a wavelength of the light strikes the back of the raindrop at an angle less than 48 degree relative to the normal then the light will pass through the raindrop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact a rainbow is made up of the entire spectrum of colors from red to violet and beyond to the ultraviolet and infrared sections of the spectrum, which the eye is not capable of detecting. The speed of the wavelength of white light before it hits the raindrop determines the color a raindrop will emit. If the wavelength of white light travels at a slow speed, then the wavelength of light will bend more when it enters the raindrop. Wavelength of the color violet is bent the most when it enters the raindrop. While red light is bent the least when it enters the raindrop. The violet light will emerge from the raindrop at an angle of 40 degrees relative to the observer's line of sight. While red light will emerge at an angle of 42 degrees. Thus, violet light has the shortest wavelength. Red, being at the opposite edge, has the longest wavelength. Moving from the violet edge through the colors to red at the opposite edge the wavelength gets longer. Other colors of the spectrum can be seen in between 40 and 42 degrees relative to the observer's line of sight. It is important to note that only one color of light is emitted from each raindrop. A large amount of raindrops produce a wide spectrum of colors of a rainbow. There are certain colors which cannot be seen by the eye. This is why the observer sees four to five solid colors of a rainbow. The color bands of a rainbow always have the same order since the shorter wavelengths of light are refracted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She does not have any problems mentally or physically, though I am surprised she does not. She has changed my perspective on everything. Her obligation to rainbow bunnies can be a bit bizarre, but her persona is wonderful and bright if you are ever in need of some sunshine. Periodically she chooses to speak a different language. One day she speaks English, the next day Spanish, etc. and gibberish eventually. Her taste in music is very interesting because she seemed like the kind of person who liked happy songs, but she actually likes very dark music such as metal and screamo. My cousin is very different from our other relatives I have met, yet that is what I like about her. In public, she gets really crazy. Not just a little crazy but hyper crazy. She is constantly up and about. She is not afraid to blare her music for the whole world to hear. People are usually looking over their shoulders, their attention to the creepy dancing ballerina bunny. I try to keep my distance. When there is candy involved, there is more crazy to come. • 54. The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop Summary Elizabeth Bishop's poem, "The Fish," details an account of someone's experience catching a fish. The person catching the fish, presumed as the narrator, describes the fish's intricate details which essentially gives it an ugly appearance. In an explication of "The Fish" from Bedford St. Martin's, the analyzer also notes how the narrator's descriptions yield an ugly appearance of the fish, but with further observation, the narrator realizes the beauty deep within the fish and the fact that the fish is a warrior. The ugly description of the outside of the fish may correlate with how some people tend to make a quick judgment based on someone's appearance without taking the time to think about what their personality or characteristics include. Although neither of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. The Tunnel By William Gass Some people believe that lies will always be bitter in the end, no matter how sweet you make them in the beginning. In William Gass' The Tunnel, he expounds the validity of this belief by taking the reader on an emotionally evolving journey, as he recounts the self–realization of a young boy, who's frightening lie unravels in front of not only his own eyes, but also the readers. Gass successfully enriches this story with striking imagery, symbolism, and comparisons; exposing how no matter how sweet you make a lie in the beginning, it will always turn bitter in the end. The first paragraph plays an imperative role in the excerpt, for it introduces the reader to the emotional despondency of the boy. William Gass successfully strikes the reader from the beginning, for his two word opening, "lime slush" (line 1), prompts the reader to not only envisage a lime slush, but also taste its sugary sweetness. However, the sweetness this imagery provides is short lasting, for they are soon bombarded with countless caesuras, as he describes how "slush is supposed to be water. That's what slush is. It certainly isn't sherbet! It wasn't a nice green. And there didn't seem to be that much of it." (lines 2–3). The disappointment that entrenches the boy in these short but concrete statements, successfully introduces the reader to his emotional bitterness, for not even the lime slush's sweetness can sweeten it. The colour imagery does not stop there, for he describes how "strawberry always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Rainbow Fish Book Analysis Text: The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister Grade level equivalent: Pre–K and Kinder Genre: Picture Book Synopsis: It is a picture book about a Fish, named Rainbow Fish, who thinks he is too beautiful to hang out with all the other fish. As a result, Rainbow Fish ends up lonely. At the end, Rainbow Fish learns that it is better to have friends than to be prideful. Demands of the Text Genre/organizational demands: Picture books are books that contain many illustrations, especially for children. The illustrations are as important (or, in some cases, even more important than) the words in the story. My students will need to understand that pictures usually add to the text of the story. They will also need to understand that text represents spoken words. Thus, my students need to be able to interpret pictures and be able to recognize one–to–one correspondence between a written word and a spoken word. Background knowledge demands: For this book, students must know what fish and scales are. They will also need to know that fish live under the sea. High–level Thinking about the Text While I am reading this book aloud, I will ask critical thinking questions, using the upper and lower end of Bloom's Taxonomy. Some of the questions that I will ask are the following: 1. Lesson Objectives Textual objective: During the text–based discussion, the student will discuss what the main character in the story said, looked like, acted like, and felt like. Strategy objective: At the end of this minilesson, the students will be able to identify the 4 different character traits and give at least 1 example of each with 70 percent accuracy. PART II: LESSON NARRATIVE

But with visual aids and closer attention to the nuances in instrumentation, the song reveals an uncomfortable duality – that between pursuing one's dreams and staying close to home. The shot composition of the scene in which Dorothy sings "Over the Rainbow" tells a story itself. The scene is composed of one brief shot and two long takes, the first of which is centered on Dorothy throughout. Suddenly, abruptly, the scene cuts mid–sentence to a smiling Toto who is wagging his tail. Initially, the cut seems to serve no purpose – it does not further the narrative, nor does it come into play later. But a keen eye, or ear rather, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This foreshadows that Dorothy will no longer crave the radical freedom that she is singing about once she has experienced a different world. Interestingly, the scene ends with Dorothy singing "Why then, oh why can't I?" which is in the minor key, representing Kansas. This subtlety foreshadows Dorothy's decision to return home after successfully escaping to Oz. Before Dorothy even begins to sing, the song is introduced by a fluty melody that is reminiscent of birds chirping. Birdsong is an explicit indicator of the natural world, and is often associated with tranquility. This serene melody, coupled with the look of wonder on Dorothy's face, helps communicate that Dorothy is journeying to a new world – one of her own creation, that is peaceful and distinct from her life in Kansas. As soon as Dorothy belts out her first note, the melody immediately drops to middle C, and the remaining sections of the orchestra join in, creating a much richer, fuller sound than the ethereal "chirping" that preceded it, as if the melody is returning from the fantastical world that Dorothy has dreamed up. Yet, a mere 2 beats later, Dorothy returns to her imaginative dream that is associated with a higher pitch, by jumping an entire octave. In this jump, Dorothy reaches C that is between middle C and high C, and the melody is left unfulfilled – it is as if she is trying to reach high C, but is not quite there. Dorothy is caught ...
