The Journey Of Becoming A Counselor
The journey to becoming a counselor starts far before applying to graduate school. It begins even before the thought is realized. The development of
one's personality plants seeds that lead to many paths for growth. Stepping back to evaluate your own personality can allow for greater understanding
that will aide you to fully discovering the path to take.
When looking back at the development of my personality, I have to examine all of the factors that contributed to shaping me into me. My personality is
competitive, trusting, empathetic, funny, introspective and even–keeled. Breaking down each characteristic deeper allows me to investigate how I came
to adopt the trait. Competitiveness is an inherited trait. My father played professional sports and his competitive nature was ingrained in me from
birth. Growing up with a 'public' figure as a parent is a unique experience. There is pressure to 'maintain' other's perceptions and balance your
personal motivation system with living up to what you think is expected of you. Perfection or excellence was never something that was my parent's
forced on me, but knowing that other people expected it of me, weighed pretty heavily on me. As a result of soft determination, I was enrolled in
sports at age 5. The benefits of participating in sports are great. They teach you teamwork, accountability, how to face adversity and healthy
competitiveness. I was fortunate to excel at soccer and played for a select team that was

Toward Intentional Interviewing and Counseling
Chapter 1 Toward Intentional Interviewing and Counseling
INTRODUCTION: WHAT IS THE "CORRECT" RESPONSE TO OFFER A CLIENT? * There are many potentially useful responses in any
interviewing situation. * Reflecting the client's emotions can be helpful. * Selecting one aspect to focus on can be useful, and then later you can
examine other dimensions by asking an open question. * Our tasks: * Respect the client * Use appropriate skills and strategies * Seek to alleviate stress
INTERVIEWING, COUNSELING, ANDPSYCHOTHERAPY * INTERVIEWING * The most basic process used for information gathering, problem
solving, and psychosocial information giving. * Short term – only one or two sessions * Example: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Development and growth are the aim of all that we do; change * Search for strengths and resources that will empower the client. * Relationship Story
& strengths Goals Restory Action * As you listen to stories, simultaneously search for more complex, unsaid stories that may lie behind the initial
narrative.
BOX 1–1 (page 18) * The word "problem" implies difficulty and the necessity of eliminating or solving the problem. Problem may imply deficit.
Not all problems can be solved. * Considering client issues as "problems" can get in the way of a positive relationship. The words "concern" or
"issue" suggest something we all experience constantly. These words also suggest that we can deal with it (positive standpoint). * Terming a
"problem" a challenge is a call to our strengths and an opening for change. * Help clients define their goals clearly and the positive assets they already
have to resolve their issues. Then you can help them restory with a can do self–image.
RELATIONSHIP STORY & STRENGTHS GOALS RESTORY ACTION * Narrativetheory emphasizes storytelling and the generation of new
meanings. * The concepts of narration, storytelling, and conversation are useful frameworks as we examine skills, strategy, and theory in interviewing,

Bailey And Casey
Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They're Facebook friends and follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as
well as playing online games together. Unbeknownst to Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program. Given that
Bailey is maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online friends (none of whom suspect that
Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind. Objection 1: Because
Bailey is a computer program, she has no mind. The entirety of her existence has been created in a lab and could easily be stored on a chip. Bailey's
entity occupies no physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due to this, Bailey is not able to be conscious because... Show more content on

However, since she is capable of simultaneously maintaining relationships with numerous people besides Casey, Bailey does not have a mind because
human beings are unable to do the same thing. Response: Despite the fact that Bailey is not a living, breathing human being but rather a highly
emotional and intelligent entity, I respond that Bailey does have a mind. According to Rene Descartes, a being's mind is vastly different from its
matter. In Bailey's case, she has no physical body but is apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human–like emotions using her
artificial mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that artificially intelligent software programs are capable of having
emotions and complex relationships with human beings. Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing Test, which
measures a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human. Regardless,

Comparing Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos and Cruel Intentions the Movie
It is my intention to compare the book, Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos, to its modern movie version, Cruel Intentions starring Sarah
Michelle Gellar. I intend to examine how the original French text was modified in reference to plot, character, morals/values, and themes. I also plan to
discuss how these transformations change the meaning of the story and reflect different cultural/historical contexts. There are some major differences
between these two works, if only because of when they were written. First, the plots of both works need to be discussed and explained how they are
different. The stories of both works have basically the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cecile directly gets revenge on Catherine. In Dangerous Liaisons, she does not. This also relates to cultural context. It shows how more independent
women are in the modern world. In Dangerous Liaisons, Tourvel dies of misery and Cecile goes into the convent. This shows that women were much
weaker and less independent in society in the late 1700s. The last scene in the movie shows Annette driving off in Sebastian's expensive car. This is a
typical ending to a modern story. In the book, her character dies, but in the movie, she is the vengeful, independent woman. It is apparent that the
morals and values of both works change because of their cultural and historical context. Dangerous Liaisons was basically written to teach young
women in society what not to do. This kind of literature was looked down upon at the time it was written.
"In 1824 a decree of the cour royale de Paris condemned it to be destroyed as 'dangerous'. This verdict remained the official one throughout the later
nineteenth century. The book was spoken of only to be deplored: 'a picture of the most odious immortality, that should never have been revealed even
supposing it had been true', 'a work of revolting immorality', 'a book to be admired and execrated'."(Laclos, p. 7)
It was considered to be an immoral book. The movie was made mainly for entertainment purposes. Since we basically live in an immoral society, it was
well accepted as a good movie. Although the schemes that Catherine

Essay The Side-Effect Effect
The Side–Effect Effect There are side effects to almost every action people take. Getting rid of insects in a home can cause harm to the environment, or
even poison pets within the household. Studying for a test can cause lack of sleep, and ultimately poorer health. Throwing away the remains of an
unfinished dinner plate discards what could have been valuable nutrients for starving children in Africa. How one determines intentionality of an action
has been a controversial topic for many. Joshua Knobe has conducted experiments for explaining the proper analysis of intentional action, while Uttich
and Lombrozo have conducted experiments exploring the relationship between norms and mental state ascriptions in terms of intentional actions. ...

People are more willing to say a side effect occurred intentionally when they interpret that side effect as bad than they are when that side effect is good.
Uttich and Lombrozo also studied the side–effect effect, but explained it differently than Knobe did. They said that the side–effect effect, the
differences in ascribed mental states and traits pertaining to intentionality of an action, is due to the side effect's norm status as opposed to moral
status. They named this view the Rational Scientist view. While Knobe suggested the moral status of a side–effect influenced judgments on
intentionality, Uttich and Lombrozo suggested that norm status is sufficient alone in producing the side–effect effect. Specifically, they said that
norm–violating behavior that outweighs the reason to observe the norm is more informative in explaining intentionality of side effects compared to
norm–conforming behavior. By default, people usually follow the norms, unless some sufficiently strong reason compels them to violate them. The
Rational Scientist view is consistent with the Theory of Mind, in that internal states support explanation and prediction of behavior, but adds the vital
role of norms in those predictions and explanations; moral norms affect Theory of Mind ascriptions by influencing mental state ascriptions. A third

Persuasive Essay On Snowing In Sports
Hockey is a game that should be fun and played with sticks and pucks not with scraped ice. Snowing is an action where a player stops in front of
the goalie either intestinally or by accident. This creates snow, which ends up spraying the goalie in the face with the snow that was created. The
school made the correct decision that snowing in practice for fun is considered hazing. Making snowing a habit in practice for the players, they
would think its ok to do it in games. Snowing is considered unsportsmanlike penalty if its done intentionally, in the discretion of the referee. But
snowing has no real physical abuse; it won't leave any significant damage to the kid's eyes. Snowing in practice shouldn't be tolerated; it could
make the kids think that snowing is okay. When the kids believe its okay they would bad habits, eventually doing it on purpose in games to distract
the goalie. This isn't okay this action shows a sign of bad sportsmanship, which is never okay in sports. These could lead to bad habits later in life
when playing time or roster spots is limited. When these kids still have these habits, these kids would either get limited playing time or not be
offered a spot even though they are skilled. The player would feel upset that they didn't make it even though you are skilled. Coaches these days
would rather take less skilled players with a good personality and sportsmanship than players who are skilled without a good personality. This is
because having these players

The 5 Elements Of Effective Thinking
Shocked standing in confusion you find out your friend intentionally failed at something you needed help with. Trying to grasp the reason they failed
you you are dumbfounded. Some people believe that failure is essential for success. In the book, The 5 Elements of Effective Thinking, the authors,
Edward Burger and Michael Starbird, state that a person should intentionally fail in order to succeed. However, this stance is inaccurate because it
goes against biblical evidence, causes psychological problems, and make success impossible in the professional world.
Failing by intention is not a biblically sound concept; it undermines many biblical truths. In Acts 17:30 we are commanded to repent from sin. You can
not repent from sin if you are intentionally failing. Repentance is to completely turn away from something. It was explained to me as a child that
repentance is running away from something as fast as you can. If we apply the principle of intentional failure in our lives it undermines what the bible
commands concerning sin. Paul in Romans 6:1–2 states "What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply? Absolutely
not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?" Paul is pointing out that we should not fail in our moral integrity simply because we can but rather
strive to succeed. Through Christ we have forgiveness from sin. Regardless, that does not allow allow us to sin as we please. Failing should come

Example Of A Difficult Conversation
Difficult conversation #1
What Happened According to the text the "what happened conversation" is where most difficult conversation develop from, which is the heart of what
is going wrong between individuals. They may agree on the basic facts but have different interpretations of what it means. We often play the blame
game where we think they are to blame and they think we are to blame. To defuse the situation the authors suggest adopting the "And Stance," which
acknowledges that both parties have different views on the situation but both views matter.
Next, it suggests we should not make assumptions based on intentions, often we tend to jump from the impact of the situation to the intent without
asking for an explanation of why. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dangerous Liaisons is a thrilling and enthralling account of the sordid, scandalous aspiring and often secretive lives of the noble class in the 18th
century right before the French Revolution. Dangerous liaisons brings to life a tale of betrayal and revenge through aristocratic women and a rather
promiscuous noble young man. As these aristocratic women are eager to climb the social ladder and find loves that are befitting them and their social
class they are unaware they are apart of an elaborate scheme for a mere women 's amusement and experimentation. The book is written as though they
are letters between everyone involved from main characters Madame de Tourvel, Vicomte deValmont, Cecile, Madame de Volanges, Marquise De
Merteuil, and Madame de Rosemunde. There are many themes coming into play that are most prominent during the 18th century in daily noble

the metaphor Merteuil and Valmont use to describe their sexual exploits. "Either you have a rival or you don 't. If you have one, you must set out to

2) Harmful and offensive: Bob did not get physically harmed but the plaintiff does not need to be harmed in order to be offended. Having a
revolver being pointed at you is considered to be offensive and firing a gun is harmful. Bob did get offended and the act of the defendant is
considering being harmful. 3) Touching: Marvin did not get a contact with Bob, meaning that the bullet did not hit Bob. Marvin missed Bob. 4) Of
another: Bob did get offended by Marvin. The act was not made by Bob. Marvin fired the gun at Bob. 5) Without Consent: Bob did not give the

Communication Studies Research Paper : Microaggressions
Communication Studies Research Paper When people communicate with others, their messages are meant to convey a certain message. However,
messages can sometimes carry unintended, negative remarks towards a person's gender, ethnicity, and beliefs. These inadvertent messages are more
commonly known as microaggressions. People react to these microaggressions very differently; some take offense to them, while others nonchalantly
let them pass by. To minimize the occurrence of microaggressions, it is beneficial to know how to identify and react to them. Again, to fully assess
how to confront microaggressions, we must know their initial intent. Microaggressions are based off biases and stereo types, whether it be racial,
sexual, ethnic, etc. In the book, "Microaggressions in Ministry", written by Cody J. Sanders, it is stated that "microaggression" is a term that found
its way into scholarly literature in 1970 when it was introduced by a man named Chester Pierce. The time period in which the term was coined was
shortly after the civil rights movement ended, indicating that it is a more discrete form of discrimination toward minorities. However, we cannot fully
blame the people who are constructing these microaggressions. According to Derald Wing Sue, a professor of psychology and education at Teachers
College of Columbia University, who studies multicultural counseling and racism, no one is immune to sexual and gender based biases. In fact, he
states that it is actually

There is something about going to a live theater that just offers that something that you can't really experience when watching a movie. The

Everything is bigger, louder, better in a live theater and even having rea stage actors staring at you instead of a camera, you get a sense of excitement
that makes the whole experience enjoyable. I certainly got that feeling when I got a chance to sit down and watch Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the

For me I don't have an inherent problem with characters that are just plain awful, I can appreciate them as such but in most cases the way these
types of characters are written doesn't always stand out to me and in worse cases the narrative tries to force me to sympathize with them instead of
letting me feel for myself. Looking at Merteuil character on paper, you'd almost want to describe her as brutal and maybe even unsympathetic yet
Douglas manages to give layers to this character that weren't just an "evil hard ass" but showed a human side to her that had pain and a soul that
was damaged while maintaining that fierce persona. One of my personal favorite moments from the play was when she explains to Valmont that
main source of power women of her time have the withholding of sex while Men "Can ruin us whenever the fancy takes you." She goes on to say
"All we can achieve by denouncing you is to enhance your prestige. We can't even get rid of you when we want to" Setting wise I thought the
design for the play was very beautiful. I've been to other plays set in a similar time period and sometimes the rococo fashion and scenery can easily
make everything look tacky and gaudy but thankfully this wasn't the case. One thing that stood out to me the most was the square pattern on the floor
that looked like a chessboard. It didn't click with me at first but after I had time to reflect after the play I thought about how that may have been a

The Life Of My Life
Everyone's journey is a unique one, and that's what makes us special. I might only be twenty–six years old, but I have had a lot of experiences. From

things about yourself, and you won't lead a happy and fulfilling life. You meet a lot of people in your life. For me the most important and influencing

why my parents got a divorce in 2000. From that point on I was not able to be young and naГЇve anymore. I may have had two parents and three older

How Implementation Intentions Affect Self Affirmed...
The purpose of this experiment would be to see how implementation intentions affect self–affirmed individuals. Researchers would want to see if goal
intention would increase a positive behavior change, and for the purpose of this experiment, the behavior change in question would be an increase in
exercise. To understand the purpose of this proposed experiment and to make an accurate prediction of the results, one must first understand the two
theories being test: the self–affirmation theory and implementation intentions. The self–affirmation theory was first introduced by social psychologist
Claude Steele in 1988. This theory states that "people can reduce the impact of attitude–behavior discrepancy by focusing on and affirming their
competency in some other dimension unrelated to the discrepancy." A major component of this theory includes the notion that people aren't motivated
by their need to maintain a specific set of self–images; but rather that people are motivated to have a global sense of self–integrity that includes a
general perception of their goodness, virtue, and efficacy. In other words, if an individual feels positive about one domain in their life, they're willing to
overlook and tolerate another domain that may be threatened. Past research in cognitive dissonance mainly supported the idea that when our
self–integrity is threatened we tend to rationalize defensively or distort reality, in order for our actions to be consistent with our beliefs. But Steele

Heingway : The Killing Of The Macomber By William Hemingway
There has been a long standing debate surrounding this story on whether the killing of Francis Macomber was accidental, or intentional. In short the
story centers around three individuals. Francis Macomber a wealthy coward, his beautiful wife Margot a controlling woman, and Robert Wilson their
safari guide. While out for a hunt, Macomber's cowardice showed when he did not take the opportunity to kill a lion. Margot sees the event and feels
humiliated by her husband. Everyone knew he was a coward. Wanting to prove to everyone that he is not a coward, Macomber decides that he wants to
hunt buffalo. While on the hunt Macomber shoots a buffalo, but only wounds the animal. Macomber and Wilson choose to kill the buffalo. Once
located, the buffalo charges at Macomber, but he does not cower. Macomber stands his ground and puts another round in the buffalo finally killing.
While Macomber took his shot, Margot simultaneously fired a shot from the vehicle fatally striking her husband. There is plenty of evidence
supporting that Margot fired the shot intentionally to kill her husband. The story starts of pretty straight forward with no deeper meaning than just a
hunting trip. Hemingway leaves much of the writing for open interpretation by the reader. The significant mystery in the story is whether Margot killed
her husband intentionally or by accident. Hemingway works in plenty of evidence as to why Margot would shoot her husband intentionally. One clue

Elizabeth Anscombe Intention
Elaborate on Elizabeth Anscombe's account of the relation between acting intentionally and acting for a reason.
Introduction
During the course of this assignment we will explore whether whatever is done intentionally is done for a reason by taking a look at Anscombe's set
of notes called Intention. Elizabeth Anscombe was one of the most influential women philosophers and a very important twentieth century philosopher.
She translated some of Ludwig Wittgenstein's work; hence the references in her book Intention.
My understanding of the relation between acting intentionally and acting for a reason was found by understanding the concepts she defines and
analyses which are mostly found in the early stages of her notes. Anscombe defines intention as 'acting under a description'. What distinguishes us
rational agents is the capacity to step outside ourselves and deliberate about different possible courses of action i.e. we can think hypothetically. This
capacity appears to be evident in language. It enables us not only to act voluntarily but also intentionally.
Different Senses of Intention
An agent is in the privileged position to declare one's intentions. The description of one's actions and one's intentions are the same. Anscombe starts off
her notes by describing three different ways in which we speak about intention in our language:
1.Intention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

when we want to underline a theoretical definition of predictions and expressions of intention and when we want to identify the roots of this intuitive

Mistranslation And Mistranslation In The Joy Luck Club
Mistranslation was a reoccurring theme in the book, The Joy Luck Club. There were frequent scenarios when characters could not understand each
other properly due to mistranslation and miscommunication. Jing Mei has trouble understanding her mother in the following excerpt: ""It's not
showoff." She said the two soups were almost the same, chabudwo. Or maybe she said butong, not the same thing at all. It was one of those Chinese
expressions that means the better half of mixed intentions. I can never remember things I didn't understand in the first place." Jing Mei cannot fully
understand her mother's intended meanings to a multitude of conversations due to this. Waverly Jong had a certain run in with the language barrier as
well. "Aii–ya. So shame be with mother?" She grasped my hand even tighter as she glared at me. I looked down. "It's not that, it's just so obvious. It's
just so embarrassing." "Embarrass you be my daughter?" Her voice was cracking with anger. "That's not what I meant. That's not what I said.""
Waverly is trying her best to explain to her mother that she does not want her mother to say that she is her daughter to every person she meets and the
underlying feel of becoming a trophy for her mother. Her mother has difficulty understanding this and she gets angry at her daughter. This
miscommunication escalates the hurt feelings felt between both parties.
This theme of mistranslation can be found everywhere in the current world. In the article Language Matters: How a Minor Mistranslation Can Affect
US–China Relations the author goes on to talk about how the U.S. mistranslated a small portion of the Chinese spokesman's comments. He goes on to
explain how these stories affected the United States of America. He says: "These stories led Sebastian Gorka, a top official on the U.S. National
Security Council, to deride China's statement by pointing out that the islands can be seen on Google Earth. Gorka then went on to decry China's
"territorial expansionism."" Gorka's broadcast was heard by the nation and some peoples ideas might have been swayed that the Chinese are bad. This
relates to the The Joy Luck Club in one way particular, the idea that the smallest miscommunication problems can lead to a huge

Friendship In John Knowles's A Separate Peace
In life, a person is never able to stay in contact with every person they have met. An acquaintance is no exception to this idea; friends will come and
go, and this is inevitable. Sometimes a companion will move away, never to be seen again, cut themselves off, never to be heard from again, or pass
away, never to do anything again. One bad occurrence can make or break a relationship. It all depends on whether the resolution of it will cement a
life–long friendship – or a lifelong schism. Any relationship can be complicated, to the point of making no sense at all. This is similar to what John
Knowles writes about on his novel, A Separate Peace. Knowles writes of one of his main characters, Gene Forrester, experiencing some of the themes
above. Gene causes his friend Finny's leg to be broken, and Knowles uses the resulting events to convey the idea that a friendship does not always have
to make sense for it to exist. In nearly every major interaction involving Gene, he consistently exhibits behavior which would certainly sabotage his

Cruel Intentions Movie Review
In the film Cruel Intentions, Kathryn Merteuil is portrayed as a manipulative mastermind, who suffers from the addiction of cocaine. She is prideful
of herself on destroying the lives of others while having the benefit of meeting her own needs. Kathryn comes from a wealthy family. She portrays
herself differently while being in the public eyes; a popular student, a devoted Christian and a student body president at her prestige's school. She
comes off as a lady with moral integrity. However, Sebastian her stepbrother is the only one who sees past Kathryn's deception and in fact knows that
she's a troublemaker. Throughout the film Kathryn seem have been suffering from a borderline personality disorder.
I believe criterion 1 is met because she believes that she and her brother are two of a kind but realistically they are not. For example, at the
beginning of the movie, she and her brother are manipulative and conspire to cruel intentions between seduction and betrayal. They made a bet in
which Sebastian will seduce a virgin name Annette and if Sebastian fails to do so, he will lose his most valuable possession, his car. And if he
succeeds, he would have the pleasure the pleasure to sleep with Kathryn in whom he has wanted since the day their parents married. Secondly, she
can't seem to have a functional intimate relationship with anyone. As if she only had one purpose for every person she ran across and that would be sex.
I believe criterion 2 is met because Kathryn has an

Analysis Of To Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
Madison was writing an essay for her english class on the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The essay was due on Sunday at two pm and
with time ticking down, Madison realized she had only one hour left to submit it. So she went onto google and typed in the words To Kill a

then finally submitting it to her teacher as her own work.
The word intentional means "done with intention or on purpose. When you do something intentional you deliberately meant to do it. In this case

Truths In A Streetcar Named Desire
Music plays a huge role in the plot and character developments throughout A Streetcar Named Desire by revealing hidden truths about characters. The
inclusion of the musical composition It's Only A Paper Moon leads to deeper discoveries: the exposures of Blanche and Stanley's true identities. By
contrasting It's Only APaper Moon with Stanley's aggressive dialogue during scene seven, Tennessee Williams forces viewers to side with Blanche
and her internal belief that in order to live a life where you are truly happy, it is necessary to forsake some truths and start anew.
Williams' choice of having Stanley brutally unveil Blanche's secrets contrapuntally with Blanche singing a sweet tune in the tub serves to expose

Throughout the scene, extending through the book, Stanley's goal never wavered: he wanted to prove that Blanche was untrustworthy and didn't
have the power over him as she did over other people. Although Blanche was unsuccessful with pulling the wool over the eyes of Stanley, that was
never her goal. All Blanched wanted was a chance to start a new chapter in her life without having to reference back to previous ones. This yearn for
a clean slate in order to live a sugar–coated lifestyle where she utterly happy that Blanche very powerful for many readers and viewers. Since Blanche
had pure intentions, you could never fully hate her, you could never condemn her for her actions as you could Stanley. Williams' elaborate character

A Moral Examination of Roger Kumble's "Cruel Intentions"...
I can't remember ever seeing a film with more moral problems and issues than Roger Kumbles Cruel Intentions. Although the film is intended to be a
dark comedy and a teenage version of Dangerous Liaisons, Cruel Intentions is a mature and often shocking look at a potential realistic situation
played up as a fantasy tale that offers a sickening example of the moral decay present in our society. Morals seem to change from generation to
generation, and as time goes on it seems that at one time what was disgusting and immoral in our society is now second nature and pure entertainment
for today's generation. An example of this might be to take the idea of a show consisting of uncensored sexual intercourse, and having it actually

The opening scene sets the immoral tone for the entire movie when Sebastian humiliates his therapist's daughter with nude pictures of her posted on the
Internet (his reasoning: she was charging too much). He then admits that he is tired of sleeping with these "insipid debutantes" and wants a challenge
worthy of his talents. At the same time Kathryn is upset that her ex–boyfriend dumped her for a ditzy klutz named Cecile (Selma Blair), and wants
Sebastian to "pop her cherry," so to speak, to humiliate the boyfriend. As it turns out, this is nothing new for Sebastian, who has a reputation as a
master of deflowering virgins. He agrees and of course succeeds but he has more challenging goals in mind. While turning through 17 Magazine one
day, Sebastian came across the young Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), who happens to be the first character the audience meets with morals.
Annette wrote an article titled "Why I plan to wait: A virgin's manifesto", where she goes into depth about all the reasons that she won't surrender her
virginity until she falls in love. While reading the article, Sebastian refers to her as "daddies little angel, the paradigm of chastity and virtue" and
proudly states that this young virgin would be his greatest conquest to date, and explains the wonders it would do for his reputation. The only reason

Art, Meaning And Artist 's Meaning By Daniel O. Nathan
When people encounter an artwork and try to understand it, some would refer to the artist's intention, but some may think it is not helpful. This
interpretation is concerned as one essential component of aesthetics, both in the philosophical perspective and in common sense. They two kinds of
people have their official name for what they believe. The debate here is about whether the artist's intention can influence the interpretation of the art.
The intentionalists believe that artist's intention can either determine or impact the interpretation. The anti–intentionalists hold the opposite view,
artist's intention should not be taken into consideration in interpreting. In the discussion of this, there are some small variations within each side, but
we will stay with this definition for now.
Daniel O. Nathan is obviously an anti–intentionalist. In his paper "Art, Meaning and Artist's Meaning", he demonstrated some vulnerabilities of the
current anti–intentionalism view, and then suggested some new arguments and development on the basis of it. Some of them are not very plausible. I
will defend the intentionalist's view by evaluating some of Nathan's suggestions and point out the weakness of it. I would first examine a suggestion
regrading the convention of interpreting. The second will be about the paradox of intention. Ideally this analysis would be illuminating to
intentionalism view.

Analysis of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber by...
Analysis of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber by Ernest Hemingway Ernest Hemingway is known for producing novels and short stories
with ambiguous endings. In his short story, "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber," he definitely leaves his readers guessing. The question is
whether Margot kills her husband,
Francis, intenionally, or if she accidentally shoots him in an effort to save his life. There are many points that could be argued for both conclusions, but
my observations have led me to believe that Margot did indeed shoot her husband intentionally, however, without pre–meditation.
In looking at the background of Francis and Margot, it is easy to see that the strength of their relationship rests on their ... Show more content on

Like a dam bursting. It was pure excitement." If Francis is no longer afraid of anything, then it is possible that he could walk away from Margot. It
is also possible that he could find another wife with his loss of cowardice. When Margot says, in regard to Francis' performance with the buffalo, "I
hated it....I loathed it," it is apparent that Margot now realizes that the control she had over her husband is gone. Francis' newly discovered
independance destroys the equilibrium in their relationship and leaves Margot on the loosing side of a marriage that she knows is coming to an end.
Another important issue regarding the killing of Francis Macomber is the credibility of the safari guide, Robert Wilson. He gives the reader an
outside perspective of the relationship between Francis and Margot, but it is whether or not his presumptions are accurate that deems him credible or
not. When Margot tries to downplay the killing of the buffalos by saying, "You're both talking rot...Just because you've chased some helpless animals
in a motor car, you talk like heroes, " Wilson thinks to himself, "She's worried about it already." It is obvious that Wilson accurately interprets the state
of the relationship between Francis and Margot because he sees the way that Margot controls her husband. The clear understanding of the relationship
that Wilson shows throughout the story proves that he is indeed credible.

Doctrine of Double Effect Essay

Doctrine of Double Effect
Trident University
What is the Doctrine of Double Effect?
The doctrine of double effect if often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human
being, as a side effect of promoting good ends. It is claimed that sometimes it is permissible to cause such harm as a side effect of bringing about a
good result even though it would not be permissible to cause such harm as a means to bringing about the same good end. The reasoning is summarized
with the claim that sometimes it is permissible to bring about as merely foreseen side effect a harmful event that it would be impermissible to bring
about intentionally (Uniacke 1984). It is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scanlon's View on the Doctrine of Double Effect Scanlon explores the ethical significance of the intentions and motives with which people act.
According to Scanlon, these intentions and motives do not have any direct bearing on the permissibility of the act. Thus, Scanlon claims that the
traditional Doctrine of Double Effect is mistaken. However, the way in which someone is motivated to act has

How would you like to spend 20 to 30 minutes every day building one new relationship a day that will double, perhaps even triple your income?
I 'm going to toss a new wrinkle into the relationship building game. I want you to think about two words could have dramatic affect on your life and
your income.
Those two words are "on purpose."
What do you think might happen if you started creating new relationships on purpose? And what if you attached an immediate dollar amount value to
each of those new relationships?
That 's what I did several years ago and my results have been nothing short of amazing. I know it might sound cold and calculating to think like this,
but bear with me.
It all started one evening as I was doing an Internet business seminar for a local S.C.O.R.E. chapter. I was talking about how to increase the value of
email in your business. I looked down and, by chance, in my materials, I had one of those thousand dollar bill bookmarks you can buy at your local

The Problem Of A Student
Everyone has questions when starting something new, "will I make it?" what is this all about, or am I even smart enough to even considering
such a huge commitment? These may be just a few that new students are asking themselves when they first click that first button. How about the
person that has not been in a school setting in a number of years? If you have ever questioned any of these, you have come to the right place. It
seems that everyone has their mind set on accomplishing something in there life. The difference now, is that a student has to have an intentional
mindset to become a successful in whatever area they are interested in. Before the age of the computers people carried on face to face
conversations. The connections people made were relevant in so many ways that some may say that has been lost in technology. This is not the
debate, it is how far students are willing to forge what is not comfortable and bring it to a level of relevance in their own lives. When I read the part
of this book and we started to break down what that really was my thinking changed. My learning patterns are Sequence (30) Precision (30) Technical

Intentional Teaching And How Does Extending Young...
Reflective Question: What is intentional teaching and how does extend young children's learning?
Stop: As part of my research project on how to extend 3–4 year olds learning I have been researching the term "Intentional teaching". So what is
intentional teaching? The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) in Australia, describes intentionalteaching as "educators being deliberate,
purposeful, and thoughtful in their decision and actions". International teaching is not teaching and learning by rote, but reflects how children's
learning can be enhanced through purposeful interactions with more experienced and informed learners. Highscope Preschool Program in the USA,

embedded in our practice and daily interactions rather than at a certain part of our day. For example, mat

Importance Of Personal Reflection
To begin I introduced the learning intentions at the start of the lesson. Students were extremely responsive to this. Tim commented that chemistry was
less ambiguous as he knew what the purpose was and what each class' purpose was (Appendix P). Tim preferred when learning intentions were
introduced at the beginning encouraging him to engage as he saw its purpose and how it connected with his life. For Mark, it gave him a purpose and
he could understand the importance of each lesson (Appendix P). John enjoyed when learning intentions were discussed in the conclusion as it was an
individual interpretation of what was important in the lesson (Appendix P). With all three students, I observed a greater level of engagement in class,
especially during discussion around the learning intention. It allowed the lessons to look more closely at real–life context, which I think is extremely
important, and this class discussions led. Utilising a sheet with learning intentions, students wrote what they knew at the start of the lesson and what
they knew at the end (Appendix Q). This was an extremely valuable piece of formative assessment as it gave a direction for my next lesson,
depending on what the students had learnt, and where there were still areas that could be covered in more depth. The class were more engaged in the
learning and had more enjoyment and focus during lessons where the expectations of their learning were discussed. Students know their expectations

This study examined the impacts of demographic and geographic characteristics and risk perceptions on previous evacuation decisions and future
evacuation intentions. Overall, the topics of this study are important, literature review is thorough, and the data is valuable to be published. However,
there are some significant issues to the manuscript that prevent me from recommending the editor accept this manuscript in its present form. First of
all, the author(s) should clearly identify the concepts they are studied for. After reading through this manuscript, I then understand that "evacuation

Consequently, parts of the second hypothesis in this study is illogical. I recommend that the author(s) should only test the impacts of geographic and
demographic characteristics on previous evacuation decisions (i.e., H3 and H5) and delete H2. Furthermore, I wonder the fourth hypothesis is not a
literature based hypothesis. Even though it would be interesting to examine whether storm intensity would be a moderator between demographic
characteristics and evacuation intentions or to examine whether demographic characteristics have better explanation power in some conditions, the
author(s) only reported the results narratively. Since there are no specific findings on this hypothesis, I think the author(s) should either delete this
hypothesis or revise this hypothesis and employ adequate analysis methods. On the other aspect, as the author(s) noted in the literature review, it is
interesting to study in the differences and relationships between previous evacuation decisions and evacuation intentions. Hence, I encourage the
author(s) to extend their first hypothesis from PADM (Lindell and Perry 2012) by examining partial correlations on risk perceptions and damage
experience to see whether those variables have mediation effects between previous evacuation decisions and evacuation intentions and between

The Greatest Necession Of My Life : My Greatest Challenges...
I was 16 years old when I faced one of my greatest challenges in life. The challenge to recover from one of the most significant incidences in my life

that something became the essence of my life. I'd wake up, as well as go to sleep while thinking about it. Sometimes it was better to spend some time
away from that thing, so to not become overly–obsessive. But that's exactly where I went wrong, and it's exactly what made this the greatest obstacle
of my life. She was 15 years old when she'd faced one of her greatest inconveniences in life. Frail in build; more gorgeous than anything I've ever

ever seen in my entire life. Every syllable she spoke hit me like a freight train – her voice softer than anything man could even fathom; how could
something so gentle contain such power? She moved with poise; more graceful than anything I've ever witnessed. She gave me a sense of purpose.
Almost everything I'd done was in her favor, yet not by request. She made me feel unlike anyone else had been capable of making me feel in my
entire life; you know that feeling of being incapable of feeling anything? Before her, I'd only ever had a constant feeling of neutrality, with the

Critical literacy
Have you ever confused or misunderstood on what's written in the book or shown by other media? As a human, everyone must be have had this
experience that really did not understood of author's intention. That's where critically literate citizen comes as vital role in this society. Critically
literate sounds fancy or hard as it seems, but it actually easier to understand than what it sounds. Reading books or news or watching movies gives a
good feelings as appreciated or bad feelings as sad or mad, yet, when feelings or emotions coming, it's because reader understood what author's intention
was. Some people may be happy to gain so much knowledge from the books just read or watch movies because it contains meaningful messages.
Either good or bad, media has always power and goal to convince readers, yet, it does not mean that readers should believe everything they have read
or seen. Being critically literate means exam, search, and question on author's true purpose beyond context like "what you see is not always what you

Attribution of Intentionality and Theory of Mind in...
The ability of understanding intentions of others is very important for social development of children (Feinfield, Lee, Flavell, Green, & Flavell, 1999).
By means of understanding intentions children can make sense of that people and animates are different from objects (Feinfield, et al., 1999).
According to Shantz (1983), this ability is the requisite to understand morality and responsibility. To understand plans and planning we also need to
have the ability of understanding intentions (Feinfield, et al., 1999). In addition, Feinfield and colleagues stated that acquiring the ability of
understanding intentions of others is also important for the cognitive development of the children such as theory of mind (ToM) that is "the

First of all, the question when children begin to acquire the ability of understanding the intentions was studied to determine the developmental
trajectory of this ability. According to Piaget, children started to reflect an understanding of intentions in behavior over the age of 7 years of age
(Kelly, 2011). However, more recent studies showed that children could have this understanding earlier. One of these studies was conducted by
Carpenter, Akhtar and Tomasello in 1998. The participants of the study by Carpenter and her colleagues (1998) are 20 infants aged 14–18 months. In
the study, infants are measured with an implicit measure in which they observed an adult that exhibit two actions on objects with one of the
discriminative cues that was saying either "Woops!" that refers to accidental actions or "There!" that refers to intentional ones. There were three
conditions: an intentional action followed by an accidental one (I–A condition), an accidental action followed by an intentional one (A–I condition)
and also two intentional actions (I–I condition). Each infant participated in each condition twice. It was hypothesis that infants as young as 14 months
would preferably imitate intentional actions over accidental ones. According to the results, children as young as 14–18 months of age showed the
ability to differentially imitate and distinguish the intentional actions from accidental ones (Carpenter, et al.,

Identifying my role in group took about several hours to determine over the course of several weeks with countless snack breaks in between. In the
initial sessions of the school year, I recall sharing how "being more intentional" with my sharing is a goal I'd like to work towards. I needed to be
confident in my sharing and confront honest versus artificial feelings. I wasn't exactly how sure that was going to play out throughout the course of the
semester, but I believe I grasped opportunities when presented to challenge myself and establish an effective role in the group. With that, in
combination of feedback from group members and self–reflections, I determined my role in the group was "the premeditator". Sharing a little bit of

Prior to the group, I had different levels of friendship with each group member, some ranging from my "closest confidants" to "probably not my

their same behavior was reflected in the group. Specifically, as mentioned in the group, Vi and I were civil acquaintances in the cohort, but with the
civility I learned to create a protective barrier once I experienced her misguided intentions. Aware of our past, I assumed history may repeat itself in
group, presenting a safe place for me to challenge my submissiveness and confront her. In about the fourth session of group, she shared how she
desired more confrontation between group members because "conflict is how progress is made." I felt motivated to say something as I felt it was
hypocritical for the girl who never shares to insist other group members not only share, but create conflict. When reflecting on group stages and my role
within the stage, I realized we were entering the experimental engagement stage of group therapy. This was the time when members naturally want to

The Journey Of Becoming A Counselor

  • 1. The Journey Of Becoming A Counselor The journey to becoming a counselor starts far before applying to graduate school. It begins even before the thought is realized. The development of one's personality plants seeds that lead to many paths for growth. Stepping back to evaluate your own personality can allow for greater understanding that will aide you to fully discovering the path to take. When looking back at the development of my personality, I have to examine all of the factors that contributed to shaping me into me. My personality is competitive, trusting, empathetic, funny, introspective and even–keeled. Breaking down each characteristic deeper allows me to investigate how I came to adopt the trait. Competitiveness is an inherited trait. My father played professional sports and his competitive nature was ingrained in me from birth. Growing up with a 'public' figure as a parent is a unique experience. There is pressure to 'maintain' other's perceptions and balance your personal motivation system with living up to what you think is expected of you. Perfection or excellence was never something that was my parent's forced on me, but knowing that other people expected it of me, weighed pretty heavily on me. As a result of soft determination, I was enrolled in sports at age 5. The benefits of participating in sports are great. They teach you teamwork, accountability, how to face adversity and healthy competitiveness. I was fortunate to excel at soccer and played for a select team that was ... Not all problems can be solved. * Considering client issues as "problems" can get in the way of a positive relationship. The words "concern" or "issue" suggest something we all experience constantly. These words also suggest that we can deal with it (positive standpoint). * Terming a "problem" a challenge is a call to our strengths and an opening for change. * Help clients define their goals clearly and the positive assets they already have to resolve their issues. • 3. Bailey And Casey Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They're Facebook friends and follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as playing online games together. Unbeknownst to Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program. Given that Bailey is maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind. Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer program, she has no mind. The entirety of her existence has been created in a lab and could easily be stored on a chip. Bailey's entity occupies no physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due to this, Bailey is not able to be conscious because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, since she is capable of simultaneously maintaining relationships with numerous people besides Casey, Bailey does not have a mind because human beings are unable to do the same thing. Response: Despite the fact that Bailey is not a living, breathing human being but rather a highly emotional and intelligent entity, I respond that Bailey does have a mind. According to Rene Descartes, a being's mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey's case, she has no physical body but is apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human–like emotions using her artificial mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that artificially intelligent software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships with human beings. Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing Test, which measures a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human. • 4. Comparing Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos and... Comparing Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos and Cruel Intentions the Movie It is my intention to compare the book, Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos, to its modern movie version, Cruel Intentions starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. I intend to examine how the original French text was modified in reference to plot, character, morals/values, and themes. I also plan to discuss how these transformations change the meaning of the story and reflect different cultural/historical contexts. There are some major differences between these two works, if only because of when they were written. First, the plots of both works need to be discussed and explained how they are different. The stories of both works have basically the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cecile directly gets revenge on Catherine. In Dangerous Liaisons, she does not. This also relates to cultural context. It shows how more independent women are in the modern world. In Dangerous Liaisons, Tourvel dies of misery and Cecile goes into the convent. This shows that women were much weaker and less independent in society in the late 1700s. The last scene in the movie shows Annette driving off in Sebastian's expensive car. This is a typical ending to a modern story. In the book, her character dies, but in the movie, she is the vengeful, independent woman. It is apparent that the morals and values of both works change because of their cultural and historical context. Dangerous Liaisons was basically written to teach young women in society what not to do. This kind of literature was looked down upon at the time it was written. "In 1824 a decree of the cour royale de Paris condemned it to be destroyed as 'dangerous'. This verdict remained the official one throughout the later nineteenth century. The book was spoken of only to be deplored: 'a picture of the most odious immortality, that should never have been revealed even supposing it had been true', 'a work of revolting immorality', 'a book to be admired and execrated'."(Laclos, p. 7) It was considered to be an immoral book. The movie was made mainly for entertainment purposes. Since we basically live in an immoral society, it was well accepted as a good movie. Although the schemes that Catherine ... • 5. Essay The Side-Effect Effect The Side–Effect Effect There are side effects to almost every action people take. Getting rid of insects in a home can cause harm to the environment, or even poison pets within the household. Studying for a test can cause lack of sleep, and ultimately poorer health. Throwing away the remains of an unfinished dinner plate discards what could have been valuable nutrients for starving children in Africa. How one determines intentionality of an action has been a controversial topic for many. Joshua Knobe has conducted experiments for explaining the proper analysis of intentional action, while Uttich and Lombrozo have conducted experiments exploring the relationship between norms and mental state ascriptions in terms of intentional actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People are more willing to say a side effect occurred intentionally when they interpret that side effect as bad than they are when that side effect is good. Uttich and Lombrozo also studied the side–effect effect, but explained it differently than Knobe did. They said that the side–effect effect, the differences in ascribed mental states and traits pertaining to intentionality of an action, is due to the side effect's norm status as opposed to moral status. They named this view the Rational Scientist view. While Knobe suggested the moral status of a side–effect influenced judgments on intentionality, Uttich and Lombrozo suggested that norm status is sufficient alone in producing the side–effect effect. Specifically, they said that norm–violating behavior that outweighs the reason to observe the norm is more informative in explaining intentionality of side effects compared to norm–conforming behavior. By default, people usually follow the norms, unless some sufficiently strong reason compels them to violate them. The Rational Scientist view is consistent with the Theory of Mind, in that internal states support explanation and prediction of behavior, but adds the vital role of norms in those predictions and explanations; moral norms affect Theory of Mind ascriptions by influencing mental state ascriptions. • 6. Persuasive Essay On Snowing In Sports Hockey is a game that should be fun and played with sticks and pucks not with scraped ice. Snowing is an action where a player stops in front of the goalie either intestinally or by accident. This creates snow, which ends up spraying the goalie in the face with the snow that was created. The school made the correct decision that snowing in practice for fun is considered hazing. Making snowing a habit in practice for the players, they would think its ok to do it in games. Snowing is considered unsportsmanlike penalty if its done intentionally, in the discretion of the referee. But snowing has no real physical abuse; it won't leave any significant damage to the kid's eyes. Snowing in practice shouldn't be tolerated; it could make the kids think that snowing is okay. When the kids believe its okay they would bad habits, eventually doing it on purpose in games to distract the goalie. This isn't okay this action shows a sign of bad sportsmanship, which is never okay in sports. These could lead to bad habits later in life when playing time or roster spots is limited. When these kids still have these habits, these kids would either get limited playing time or not be offered a spot even though they are skilled. The player would feel upset that they didn't make it even though you are skilled. Coaches these days would rather take less skilled players with a good personality and sportsmanship than players who are skilled without a good personality. This is because having these players ... • 7. The 5 Elements Of Effective Thinking Shocked standing in confusion you find out your friend intentionally failed at something you needed help with. Trying to grasp the reason they failed you you are dumbfounded. Some people believe that failure is essential for success. In the book, The 5 Elements of Effective Thinking, the authors, Edward Burger and Michael Starbird, state that a person should intentionally fail in order to succeed. However, this stance is inaccurate because it goes against biblical evidence, causes psychological problems, and make success impossible in the professional world. Failing by intention is not a biblically sound concept; it undermines many biblical truths. In Acts 17:30 we are commanded to repent from sin. You can not repent from sin if you are intentionally failing. Repentance is to completely turn away from something. It was explained to me as a child that repentance is running away from something as fast as you can. If we apply the principle of intentional failure in our lives it undermines what the bible commands concerning sin. Paul in Romans 6:1–2 states "What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply? Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?" Paul is pointing out that we should not fail in our moral integrity simply because we can but rather strive to succeed. Through Christ we have forgiveness from sin. Regardless, that does not allow allow us to sin as we please. Failing should come about when we have put our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Example Of A Difficult Conversation Difficult conversation #1 What Happened According to the text the "what happened conversation" is where most difficult conversation develop from, which is the heart of what is going wrong between individuals. They may agree on the basic facts but have different interpretations of what it means. We often play the blame game where we think they are to blame and they think we are to blame. To defuse the situation the authors suggest adopting the "And Stance," which acknowledges that both parties have different views on the situation but both views matter. Next, it suggests we should not make assumptions based on intentions, often we tend to jump from the impact of the situation to the intent without asking for an explanation of why. ... He was born October 18th 1741 and died September 5th, 1803 at the age of 61. He was considered a beginners writer and to have a morbid look on human relations which is what he choose to write about in Dangerous Liaisons. Although he was a military official with little literary training his book Les Liaisons Dangereuses came to be literally acclaimed in the 18th century. Laclos was born into a Bourgeois family in 1760 he was sent to Ecole royale d 'artillerie de La Fere . In 1771 he was promoted to Captain and became bored with normal military life and began writing small poems at first and later a opera. He also started an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dangerous Liaisons is a thrilling and enthralling account of the sordid, scandalous aspiring and often secretive lives of the noble class in the 18th century right before the French Revolution. Dangerous liaisons brings to life a tale of betrayal and revenge through aristocratic women and a rather promiscuous noble young man. As these aristocratic women are eager to climb the social ladder and find loves that are befitting them and their social class they are unaware they are apart of an elaborate scheme for a mere women 's amusement and experimentation. The book is written as though they are letters between everyone involved from main characters Madame de Tourvel, Vicomte deValmont, Cecile, Madame de Volanges, Marquise De Merteuil, and Madame de Rosemunde. There are many themes coming into play that are most prominent during the 18th century in daily noble lives. First being that of war a minor fight in Corsica, is in the background of Dangerous Liaisons. War is also discussed in saying that "battle" is the metaphor Merteuil and Valmont use to describe their sexual exploits. "Either you have a rival or you don 't. • 12. Communication Studies Research Paper : Microaggressions Communication Studies Research Paper When people communicate with others, their messages are meant to convey a certain message. However, messages can sometimes carry unintended, negative remarks towards a person's gender, ethnicity, and beliefs. These inadvertent messages are more commonly known as microaggressions. People react to these microaggressions very differently; some take offense to them, while others nonchalantly let them pass by. To minimize the occurrence of microaggressions, it is beneficial to know how to identify and react to them. Again, to fully assess how to confront microaggressions, we must know their initial intent. Microaggressions are based off biases and stereo types, whether it be racial, sexual, ethnic, etc. In the book, "Microaggressions in Ministry", written by Cody J. Sanders, it is stated that "microaggression" is a term that found its way into scholarly literature in 1970 when it was introduced by a man named Chester Pierce. The time period in which the term was coined was shortly after the civil rights movement ended, indicating that it is a more discrete form of discrimination toward minorities. However, we cannot fully blame the people who are constructing these microaggressions. The uncertainty and the live aspects of the performances makes you feel part of the story in a way instead of being the outsider that's just watching it. Everything is bigger, louder, better in a live theater and even having rea stage actors staring at you instead of a camera, you get a sense of excitement that makes the whole experience enjoyable. I certainly got that feeling when I got a chance to sit down and watch Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the center stage. Looking at Merteuil character on paper, you'd almost want to describe her as brutal and maybe even unsympathetic yet Douglas manages to give layers to this character that weren't just an "evil hard ass" but showed a human side to her that had pain and a soul that was damaged while maintaining that fierce persona. One of my personal favorite moments from the play was when she explains to Valmont that main source of power women of her time have the withholding of sex while Men "Can ruin us whenever the fancy takes you." She goes on to say "All we can achieve by denouncing you is to enhance your prestige. We can't even get rid of you when we want to" Setting wise I thought the design for the play was very beautiful. I've been to other plays set in a similar time period and sometimes the rococo fashion and scenery can easily make everything look tacky and gaudy but thankfully this wasn't the case. One thing that stood out to me the most was the square pattern on the floor that looked like a chessboard. From people and athletics to jobs and education, they all have taught me something. Without being intentional and taking risks, you won't discover new things about yourself, and you won't lead a happy and fulfilling life. You meet a lot of people in your life. For me the most important and influencing are family and the friends you choose to accept as family. I was born in 1991 and became the sixth member of my family. For the next nine years I thought my family was normal, filled with love, fighting, and yelling. Unfortunately, I was young and naГЇve and there were clearly issues, which was why my parents got a divorce in 2000. From that point on I was not able to be young and naГЇve anymore. I may have had two parents and three older siblings, but it seemed everyone went their own ways so I had to grow up fast to take care of myself. Thankfully around this same time was when I met this weird girl named Amanda. We would hangout and eat mountains of chocolate together, then her mother would let me stay the night because she knew the alternative was taking me home to an empty house. • 15. How Implementation Intentions Affect Self Affirmed... The purpose of this experiment would be to see how implementation intentions affect self–affirmed individuals. Researchers would want to see if goal intention would increase a positive behavior change, and for the purpose of this experiment, the behavior change in question would be an increase in exercise. To understand the purpose of this proposed experiment and to make an accurate prediction of the results, one must first understand the two theories being test: the self–affirmation theory and implementation intentions. The self–affirmation theory was first introduced by social psychologist Claude Steele in 1988. This theory states that "people can reduce the impact of attitude–behavior discrepancy by focusing on and affirming their competency in some other dimension unrelated to the discrepancy." A major component of this theory includes the notion that people aren't motivated by their need to maintain a specific set of self–images; but rather that people are motivated to have a global sense of self–integrity that includes a general perception of their goodness, virtue, and efficacy. In other words, if an individual feels positive about one domain in their life, they're willing to overlook and tolerate another domain that may be threatened. Past research in cognitive dissonance mainly supported the idea that when our self–integrity is threatened we tend to rationalize defensively or distort reality, in order for our actions to be consistent with our beliefs. • 16. Heingway : The Killing Of The Macomber By William Hemingway There has been a long standing debate surrounding this story on whether the killing of Francis Macomber was accidental, or intentional. In short the story centers around three individuals. Francis Macomber a wealthy coward, his beautiful wife Margot a controlling woman, and Robert Wilson their safari guide. While out for a hunt, Macomber's cowardice showed when he did not take the opportunity to kill a lion. Margot sees the event and feels humiliated by her husband. Everyone knew he was a coward. Wanting to prove to everyone that he is not a coward, Macomber decides that he wants to hunt buffalo. While on the hunt Macomber shoots a buffalo, but only wounds the animal. Macomber and Wilson choose to kill the buffalo. Once located, the buffalo charges at Macomber, but he does not cower. Macomber stands his ground and puts another round in the buffalo finally killing. While Macomber took his shot, Margot simultaneously fired a shot from the vehicle fatally striking her husband. There is plenty of evidence supporting that Margot fired the shot intentionally to kill her husband. The story starts of pretty straight forward with no deeper meaning than just a hunting trip. Hemingway leaves much of the writing for open interpretation by the reader. The significant mystery in the story is whether Margot killed her husband intentionally or by accident. Introduction During the course of this assignment we will explore whether whatever is done intentionally is done for a reason by taking a look at Anscombe's set of notes called Intention. Elizabeth Anscombe was one of the most influential women philosophers and a very important twentieth century philosopher. She translated some of Ludwig Wittgenstein's work; hence the references in her book Intention. My understanding of the relation between acting intentionally and acting for a reason was found by understanding the concepts she defines and analyses which are mostly found in the early stages of her notes. Anscombe defines intention as 'acting under a description'. What distinguishes us rational agents is the capacity to step outside ourselves and deliberate about different possible courses of action i.e. we can think hypothetically. This capacity appears to be evident in language. It enables us not only to act voluntarily but also intentionally. Different Senses of Intention An agent is in the privileged position to declare one's intentions. The description of one's actions and one's intentions are the same. Anscombe starts off her notes by describing three different ways in which we speak about intention in our language: 1.Intention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 18. Mistranslation And Mistranslation In The Joy Luck Club Mistranslation was a reoccurring theme in the book, The Joy Luck Club. There were frequent scenarios when characters could not understand each other properly due to mistranslation and miscommunication. Jing Mei has trouble understanding her mother in the following excerpt: ""It's not showoff." She said the two soups were almost the same, chabudwo. Or maybe she said butong, not the same thing at all. It was one of those Chinese expressions that means the better half of mixed intentions. I can never remember things I didn't understand in the first place." Jing Mei cannot fully understand her mother's intended meanings to a multitude of conversations due to this. Waverly Jong had a certain run in with the language barrier as well. "Aii–ya. So shame be with mother?" She grasped my hand even tighter as she glared at me. I looked down. "It's not that, it's just so obvious. It's just so embarrassing." "Embarrass you be my daughter?" Her voice was cracking with anger. "That's not what I meant. That's not what I said."" Waverly is trying her best to explain to her mother that she does not want her mother to say that she is her daughter to every person she meets and the underlying feel of becoming a trophy for her mother. Her mother has difficulty understanding this and she gets angry at her daughter. This miscommunication escalates the hurt feelings felt between both parties. This theme of mistranslation can be found everywhere in the current world. In the article Language Matters: How a Minor Mistranslation Can Affect US–China Relations the author goes on to talk about how the U.S. mistranslated a small portion of the Chinese spokesman's comments. He goes on to explain how these stories affected the United States of America. He says: "These stories led Sebastian Gorka, a top official on the U.S. National Security Council, to deride China's statement by pointing out that the islands can be seen on Google Earth. Gorka then went on to decry China's "territorial expansionism."" Gorka's broadcast was heard by the nation and some peoples ideas might have been swayed that the Chinese are bad. • 20. Friendship In John Knowles's A Separate Peace In life, a person is never able to stay in contact with every person they have met. An acquaintance is no exception to this idea; friends will come and go, and this is inevitable. Sometimes a companion will move away, never to be seen again, cut themselves off, never to be heard from again, or pass away, never to do anything again. One bad occurrence can make or break a relationship. It all depends on whether the resolution of it will cement a life–long friendship – or a lifelong schism. Any relationship can be complicated, to the point of making no sense at all. This is similar to what John Knowles writes about on his novel, A Separate Peace. Knowles writes of one of his main characters, Gene Forrester, experiencing some of the themes above. Gene causes his friend Finny's leg to be broken, and Knowles uses the resulting events to convey the idea that a friendship does not always have to make sense for it to exist. In nearly every major interaction involving Gene, he consistently exhibits behavior which would certainly sabotage his relationship with Finny and other peers. He harbors harsh and strong emotions, which eventually do make themselves clear to the person they belong to. For example, Gene begins a conspiracy against Finny, thinking, "Finny had deliberately set out to wreck my studies" (53). Even after Finny eventually resolves the complications between himself and Gene, he still falls victim to Gene's latent emotions a short moment after the reconciliation. In a ... • 25. Art, Meaning And Artist 's Meaning By Daniel O. Nathan When people encounter an artwork and try to understand it, some would refer to the artist's intention, but some may think it is not helpful. This interpretation is concerned as one essential component of aesthetics, both in the philosophical perspective and in common sense. They two kinds of people have their official name for what they believe. The debate here is about whether the artist's intention can influence the interpretation of the art. The intentionalists believe that artist's intention can either determine or impact the interpretation. The anti–intentionalists hold the opposite view, artist's intention should not be taken into consideration in interpreting. In the discussion of this, there are some small variations within each side, but we will stay with this definition for now. Daniel O. Nathan is obviously an anti–intentionalist. In his paper "Art, Meaning and Artist's Meaning", he demonstrated some vulnerabilities of the current anti–intentionalism view, and then suggested some new arguments and development on the basis of it. Some of them are not very plausible. I will defend the intentionalist's view by evaluating some of Nathan's suggestions and point out the weakness of it. Francis' newly discovered independance destroys the equilibrium in their relationship and leaves Margot on the loosing side of a marriage that she knows is coming to an end. Another important issue regarding the killing of Francis Macomber is the credibility of the safari guide, Robert Wilson. He gives the reader an outside perspective of the relationship between Francis and Margot, but it is whether or not his presumptions are accurate that deems him credible or not. When Margot tries to downplay the killing of the buffalos by saying, "You're both talking rot...Just because you've chased some helpless animals in a motor car, you talk like heroes, " Wilson thinks to himself, "She's worried about it already." John enjoyed when learning intentions were discussed in the conclusion as it was an individual interpretation of what was important in the lesson (Appendix P). Utilising a sheet with learning intentions, students wrote what they knew at the start of the lesson and what they knew at the end (Appendix Q). This was an extremely valuable piece of formative assessment as it gave a direction for my next lesson, depending on what the students had learnt, and where there were still areas that could be covered in more depth. The class were more engaged in the learning and had more enjoyment and focus during lessons where the expectations of their learning were discussed. Students know their expectations and the purpose of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She craves the attention and what other way to get it, by starting rumors of her and Jordan being seen together. • 33. Literature Study This study examined the impacts of demographic and geographic characteristics and risk perceptions on previous evacuation decisions and future evacuation intentions. Overall, the topics of this study are important, literature review is thorough, and the data is valuable to be published. However, there are some significant issues to the manuscript that prevent me from recommending the editor accept this manuscript in its present form. First of all, the author(s) should clearly identify the concepts they are studied for. After reading through this manuscript, I then understand that "evacuation behaviors" in this article does not refer to "logistic behaviors" or "shelter selection," but "previous evacuation decision." It won't be any... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, parts of the second hypothesis in this study is illogical. I recommend that the author(s) should only test the impacts of geographic and demographic characteristics on previous evacuation decisions (i.e., H3 and H5) and delete H2. Furthermore, I wonder the fourth hypothesis is not a literature based hypothesis. Even though it would be interesting to examine whether storm intensity would be a moderator between demographic characteristics and evacuation intentions or to examine whether demographic characteristics have better explanation power in some conditions, the author(s) only reported the results narratively. Since there are no specific findings on this hypothesis, I think the author(s) should either delete this hypothesis or revise this hypothesis and employ adequate analysis methods. On the other aspect, as the author(s) noted in the literature review, it is interesting to study in the differences and relationships between previous evacuation decisions and evacuation intentions. Hence, I encourage the author(s) to extend their first hypothesis from PADM (Lindell and Perry 2012) by examining partial correlations on risk perceptions and damage experience to see whether those variables have mediation effects between previous evacuation decisions and evacuation intentions and between ... • 34. The Greatest Necession Of My Life : My Greatest Challenges... I was 16 years old when I faced one of my greatest challenges in life. The challenge to recover from one of the most significant incidences in my life up–to–date. I've always been naive– the type of guy to really cling to what he cares about, ya know? When I became passionate towards something, that something became the essence of my life. I'd wake up, as well as go to sleep while thinking about it. Sometimes it was better to spend some time away from that thing, so to not become overly–obsessive. But that's exactly where I went wrong, and it's exactly what made this the greatest obstacle of my life. She was 15 years old when she'd faced one of her greatest inconveniences in life. Frail in build; more gorgeous than anything I've ever seen. She stook approximately 5 feet 3 inches, a perfect foot shorter than I. Her every feature stood out ten times more than it had on any other girl I'd ever seen in my entire life. Every syllable she spoke hit me like a freight train – her voice softer than anything man could even fathom; how could something so gentle contain such power? She moved with poise; more graceful than anything I've ever witnessed. She gave me a sense of purpose. Almost everything I'd done was in her favor, yet not by request. She made me feel unlike anyone else had been capable of making me feel in my entire life; you know that feeling of being incapable of feeling anything? Before her, I'd only ever had a constant feeling of neutrality, with the exception of my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Society Is Evil Research Paper Society is the one devil that is shared in this living hell. Their opinions are drugs, our minds tricking us to want to know more instead of shutting the thoughts out completely. Society has a myriad of standards: their idea of beauty is naturally impossible, their perception of perfection unknown, and their concept of love completely flawed. Today's society is clouded with prejudice and bias, capturing their victims one pondering thought at a time. We are all judged based on our physical appearances, our characteristics and descriptions decided with one glance. Society gives us a list of things we should fix, things that could make us better, and an essay explaining who we are now; society is the recipe for a successful and happy future ... • 37. To understand plans and planning we also need to have the ability of understanding intentions (Feinfield, et al., 1999). In addition, Feinfield and colleagues stated that acquiring the ability of understanding intentions of others is also important for the cognitive development of the children such as theory of mind (ToM) that is "the understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, the question when children begin to acquire the ability of understanding the intentions was studied to determine the developmental trajectory of this ability. According to Piaget, children started to reflect an understanding of intentions in behavior over the age of 7 years of age (Kelly, 2011). However, more recent studies showed that children could have this understanding earlier. One of these studies was conducted by Carpenter, Akhtar and Tomasello in 1998. The participants of the study by Carpenter and her colleagues (1998) are 20 infants aged 14–18 months. In the study, infants are measured with an implicit measure in which they observed an adult that exhibit two actions on objects with one of the discriminative cues that was saying either "Woops!" that refers to accidental actions or "There!" that refers to intentional ones. There were three conditions: an intentional action followed by an accidental one (I–A condition), an accidental action followed by an intentional one (A–I condition) and also two intentional actions (I–I condition). Each infant participated in each condition twice. It was hypothesis that infants as young as 14 months would preferably imitate intentional actions over accidental ones. According to the results, children as young as 14–18 months of age showed the ability to differentially imitate and distinguish the intentional actions from accidental ones (Carpenter, et al., ... • 38. Personal Narrative: Identifying My Role In Groups Identifying my role in group took about several hours to determine over the course of several weeks with countless snack breaks in between. In the initial sessions of the school year, I recall sharing how "being more intentional" with my sharing is a goal I'd like to work towards. I needed to be confident in my sharing and confront honest versus artificial feelings. I wasn't exactly how sure that was going to play out throughout the course of the semester, but I believe I grasped opportunities when presented to challenge myself and establish an effective role in the group. With that, in combination of feedback from group members and self–reflections, I determined my role in the group was "the premeditator". Sharing a little bit of background... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to the group, I had different levels of friendship with each group member, some ranging from my "closest confidants" to "probably not my favorite person ever." Because of this, I knew there was a potential in the opportunity to confront some of those issues with other group members if their same behavior was reflected in the group. Specifically, as mentioned in the group, Vi and I were civil acquaintances in the cohort, but with the civility I learned to create a protective barrier once I experienced her misguided intentions. Aware of our past, I assumed history may repeat itself in group, presenting a safe place for me to challenge my submissiveness and confront her. In about the fourth session of group, she shared how she desired more confrontation between group members because "conflict is how progress is made." I felt motivated to say something as I felt it was hypocritical for the girl who never shares to insist other group members not only share, but create conflict. When reflecting on group stages and my role within the stage, I realized we were entering the experimental engagement stage of group therapy. This was the time when members naturally want to stretch themselves, the leaders, and the group itself to new levels (Kotler and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
