Over the next two weeks, students will work in groups of 4 on two mini film productions focusing on mise-en-scene. Each group member will be responsible for a different aspect of mise-en-scene like costumes, sets, or character positioning. They will also take on a production role like camera operator or director of actors. The groups will storyboard, film, and edit their short 4-minute films in-camera over the course of two lessons. At the end, they will submit their finished productions and planning materials for grading based on effective use of mise-en-scene rather than storyline or acting.

1. Mini Project
Over the next two weeks you will produce TWO mini productions focusing
on the Mise-en-Scene.
Genres:
Of your own choosing
You must also come up with a scenario and character lifestyle
Each group will consist of 4 people in charge of 4 different aspects of
the Mise-en-scene
Person 1: Costume, hair and make-up
Person 2: Settings and props
Person 3: positioning of items/objects on set and design of set /
location
Person 4: position of characters within the frame
Each person will also have a production role
Person 1: Cameraman in charge of shot types
Person 2: In charge of actors facial expressions
Person 3: Actor
Person 4: Actor
You will need to edit in camera as you go along
This means filming everything in sequence and deleting all takes that
don’t work
You must produce a 4-minute short story of your choosing as long as it
fits the conventions of the genre you are working on.

production and planning notes
The best production from each genre and group will be uploaded the ‘Vibe’
website
You will be graded on mise-en-scene and not story line and acting
