Essay Woody Point Music Festival Case Study
Woody Point Festival Case Analysis
Introduction With its inception in 2004, the Writers at Woody Point Festival have become an ever
increasingly popular annual literature festival for Newfoundland's west coast. The festival has
grown each year and has now reached the point where council believes a formal marketing strategy
and plan is necessary for the festivals short and long term economic sustainability in the ever–
increasingly competitive literature festival market. To create the marketing strategy for the festival,
analysis will include looking at the events strengths and weaknesses, as well as its opportunities and
threats in its external environment. Viable options will then be considered that will dismiss

The festival which already receives funding from major companies, can seek out new music focused
company sponsorship's that will provide aid for the costs of the concerts. The last opportunity for
the festival includes the role it can provide in educating the local youth about local cultural music,
theater, and arts. Many may grow up to have a strong appreciation towards their own communities'
festival. Threats for the festival should raise concern as they can affect future outlook and growth
potential. An immediate threat is the competing reading festivals in the area and country during the
summer months of July and August. These other festivals can greatly affect numbers for the Writers
at Woody Point Festival as potential customers may choose to attend, and spend money travelling to
these other venues throughout the year and summer months. Another threat is the uncertainty of
having to rent out the Woody Point Heritage Theatre each year. A competing festival or event could
rent or even buy the theatre therefore taking away the venue of the festival, or charge a ridiculous
amount to rent. The relative age of returning customers may also pose potential threat for festival
organizers as they target younger crowds with music concerts, they may give grief and thus
upsetting the customers there for the book readings, which is the festivals primary source of
revenue. The analysis above has made it apparent that the festival has/ need of; outgrown its

Demerit Point System
The Demerit Point System is a system where, because of driving convictions, demerit points will be
added to your licence. Based on the amount of points and the type of licence (fully licensed or not),
different actions and consequences will be taken. The severities of the convictions will also
determine the amount of points added.
7 point infractions include failing to stop when ordered by a police officer and failing to remain at
the scene of a collision. Some 6 point infractions include exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/hour
or more, racing, and careless driving. 5 demerit points will be added for bus drivers if they fail to

Essay on The Tipping Point
The Tipping Point What can one consider being a tipping point in a situation. Is it when a situation
changes from bad to worse? Could it be when it changes from good to better? Or could it be from
when it changes from a bad situation and all of a sudden it turns around and becomes good? In my
essay we are going to explore the tipping point from four different authors: Malcolm Gladwell,
Mary G. King, Lynne M. Anderson, and Christine M. Pearson. From subject of: hush puppies, teen
suicide, crime, smoking, incivility in the workplace and the black women's breakthrough into
clerical work. There could be many reasons why there were tipping points in these topics, but I will

It had gotten so popular that famous designers were ordering them for their fashion shows and
popular actors such as Pee Wee Herman was wearing them and they took off from there. New York
crime grew at an alarming rate from the 1980's to 1990's even as early as 1970's shows increase in
crime. Some statistics from New York Law Enforcement Agency Uniform Crime Reports 1960–
2009 (www.diastercenter.com): Murders: 1970– 1,444, 1973– 2,020 1976–1,976, 1979–2,092,
1982–2,013, 1985–1,683, 1988–2,244, 1990–2,605, 1998–924. It was said that during those time
that when the sun went down the neighbors was infested with gangs and drug dealers and with the
most of the crime taken place in Brownville and East New York (Gladewell, 2005). It wasn't until
1998 that crime had took a sudden decline and dropped 64.4% in Brownville and East New York
(Gladwell, 2005). So what brought on the sudden tipping point? Depends on who is asked is where
you will get your answer. New York police will tell you that their police strategies dramatically
improved, criminologists will tell you that the crack trade and aging of the population is what made
that change. Economist will point to the city's economy improvements over the course of the 1990's
that effected the employment. It would be hard to say that one particular issue is the reason why
without being able to take that situation out to see if it had an effect, but with them all,
improvements were made and a tipping

The Tipping Point
To promote a new breakfast cereal in an already crowded market is not an easy thing to do;
especially if the one who is trying to promote a new cereal wants to make a huge success on that
project, it might be able to a very serious problem. However, if the one follow and correctly apply
what Malcom Gladwell, the author of The Tipping Point, says in his book, it will definitely
increases the possibility of success. There are three factors that help to make a huge success on their
cereal promotion. The first is that the law of few, which is about connectors, mavens, and Salesmen.
Second, stickiness, which is about examples of Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, and Educational Virus.
Third, the power of context, which is about examples of Bernie Goetz and the magic number one
hundred and fifty. Firstly, the law of few refers to the number of people who involve and try to make
a trend at the beginning of a project. Even if the originator is only one person, the one has an enough

If the product has no stickiness, it will not be able to create a trend because customers will forget
about the product before they purchase and recommend someone to buy the product. To sum up,
when sellers wants customers to remember their cereals, the sellers needs to consider about how
much the cereals have a power to tell something good information to the customers, such as sellers'
passion and creativity. Thirdly, to know and understand the situation and condition of customers is
significantly important for seller. When customers buy something which is not on the shopping list,
the decision might seems like that it is completely depends on one's thought, but it is not. The
decision is depends on the customer's surrounding condition like a smelling. For example, Malcom

Abstract
This experiment was performed to determine the melting point ranges of standard substances, urea–
cinnamic acid mixtures, and unknown substances. The melting point ranges were measured by
observing the temperatures in which the substances began and completed liquefying in the Stuart
SMP10 Melting Point Apparatus. The melting points ranges of pure naphthalene, urea, cinnamic
acid, sulfanilamide, 4–toluic acid, and anthracene were 82–82, 132–133, 134–135, 164–166,183–
184, and 216–219°C. Melting points were obtained for urea–cinnamic acid mixtures. The melting
point ranges of 1:4. 1:1, and 4:1 mixtures of urea– cinnamic acid by mass were 103–113, 103–104,
and 107–127°C respectively. Finally, the melting point ranges for unknown substance A were
around 134 – 136°C and the ranges for unknown substance B were around 135 – 139°C. Based on
the melting points, the unknown substances were identified as urea and cinnamic acid. Overall, the

On January 18th of 1918 about 10 months before the end of "The Great War" Current president
(now former) Woodrow Wilson went to congress and talked about fourteen points that could
possibly lead to peace throughout the world with these 14 points as well as possibly naming World
War 1 as "the war to end all wars". But of course this "strategy" wouldn't work and these 14 points
would be the cause of a future war. 8 of the points where mainly made to deal with the territorial and
political settlements associated with the victorious Entente Powers. These 14 points are: No more

An Analysis of Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell is all about "social epidemics and the moment when they
take off, when the reach their critical point" as well as the theory that "ideas and products and
messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do". In this book, Gladwell attempts to give a
thorough analysis and commentary to prove through different trends and scientific studies the
conclusions he makes during the novel. Gladwell's main purpose in the novel is to use pop culture
references and relatable anecdotes to educate the general public on the complexities of the theories
he presents throughout the novel. The Tipping point is not only a sociologically rich text, but also a
scientific, comprehensive "examination of the social epidemics around us"
Malcolm Gladwell is the bestselling author of nonfiction books about sociology, with "all of his five
books published on The New York Times Best Seller list", all receiving high acclaim and press.
Before he wrote his first book, The Tipping Point, Gladwell was a journalist for the Washington Post
from 1987 until 1996. He followed his time there with working for The New Yorker, where he
currently continues to write. As the demand for his unorthodox writing style and books rose, so did
the demand for his public speaking on topics related to his books.Since that time, Mr. Gladwell has
received 2 honorary degrees, as well as

Experiment #1: Purification of a Solid: Crystallization and Melting Point: Joseph Katz and Melissa
Colwell Binghamton University, Department of Chemistry, Binghamton, New York 13902
Introduction: One of the most important parts of this experiment was the concept of the melting
point. The melting point is the temperature at which a substance turns from a solid into a liquid.
Every substance has a specific temperature of melting point although any impurities in a substance
will lower the temperature required to melt it. This means that as more impurities are removed, the
closer the melting point of a substance will get closer to the real melting point. ... Show more

Although the amount recovered was high, the crystals still had a yellow color, showing that
impurities remained in the sample. However, the melting point was within the range of the acid
identified. Conclusion: The experiment determined that the unknown sample was phthalic acid due
to the melting point of 208.9 degrees Celsius. The correction of the machine was found to be 0.3
degrees Celsius, and it was machine #5. The percent recovered was determined to be 91.67%.

Melting Point And Boling Point
Introduction: Melting point and Boling point are two fundamental physical properties that are
commonly used to identify unknown compounds, to verify already known compounds, and to
determine the purity of compounds.2 If the compound is a solid, the procedure for melting point
determination is followed. However, if it is a liquid a boiling point technique must be performed,
such as distillation or refluxing.2
The melting point determination consists of five major steps: obtain the sample and make sure it is
grinded, fill 2–3 capillary tubes with the sample, ensure that the sample is tightly packed, insert the
tubes into the Melting Point Apparatus to run a fast and a slow ramp, and finally record the data.3
Grinding the sample could be done by several methods. A large stainless steel spatula could be used
to directly crush the tiny crystals into fine powder, or the sample could be first placed within a
folded piece of filter paper and then pressed with the spatula.2 A mortar and pestle are also an
appropriate instrument to grind the sample.4 Next, the adequate amount of sample, which is 1–2mm,
should be collected with each capillary tube.2 If less sample is collected, it is much harder to see
when the first and last droplets form, making it difficult for the chemist to record melting range
temperatures.6 If the capillary tubes are filled with larger sample, this could cause uneven heating
during the fast and slow ramps and could also provide inaccurate melting range that is

Tipping Point Analysis
A Synthesis of Tipping Points The 21st century experiences countless fashions and trends as they
come and go.
There are many new shirts, new book genres, new flashy games etc. that are not uncommon news
headlines. However, one must consider exactly how these trends spill into mainstream outlets in the
first place. What causes an arbitrary fashion choice to become the epitome of a teenage girl's dream
shoe closet? What causes a noxious and hazardous activity to become a full blown addiction? In
Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference, he focuses
on finding the answer to such questions. His work specifically proposes a theory on how mainstream
epidemics gain initial traction and can simply tip and grow exponentially. A mainstream trend does
not merely appear without warning–most likely, the thought behind the trend had been around for a
while. According to Gladwell, in order for a trend to grow amidst the influx of newer trends, three
types of people must be working hard behind the scenes. In the chapter "Case Study: Rumors,
Sneakers, and the Power of Translation", Gladwell details the roles of Connectors, Mavens, and
Salesmen, and how they unknowingly act together as a bridge between hipsters and mainstream
media. Gladwell's assessment of the Connectors is valid, as they play the role of the bridge itself as
he/she has to be cogent and merge two completely different strata. An excellent portrayal of this
would be Gladwell's example

Freezing Point Depression Lab
Introduction The objectives in this laboratory were to be able to calculate the freezing point
depression among three trials of unknowns, be able to correctly measure the freezing points of p–
xylene, and to be able to calculate the molar masses of the unknowns by found freezing point
depression values. This was done to be able to understand and apply a concept names supercooling.
Supercooling is when a liquid is put far under its original freezing point and remains a liquid or gas.
This happens when a substance is cooled so quickly that it's easier for it to stay a liquid than to
crystalize, until it reached its nucleation point and begins to heat up returning to its freezing point
(image 4). The supercooling of p–xylene was observed in three ... Show more content on

With time (t) on the x–axis and temperature (Celsius) on the y–axis, the exponential change could be
easily observed. At the beginning of the laboratory the masses of the combined polypropylene test
tube and 100 mL beaker were recorded by a digital electronic scale. A dry polypropylene test tube
was obtained and approximately 2 mL of p–xylene was squirted into it with the use of a pipette. This
was added to the beaker and weighed. 10 drops of toluene was then added and weighed again. The
polypropylene test tube, which now contained 10 mL of p–xylene and 10 drops toluene was
removed from the beaker and placed into a replica 100 mL beaker which was halfway filled with an
ice water mixture. The temperature sensor, which was connected to the microlab application was
placed inside of the polypropylene test tube and stirred rapidly around the outskirts of the bottom of
the polypropylene test tube. The mixture began freezing, giving off an icy slush complex. Once the
temperature appeared to have reached the nucleation point and leveled out at its freezing point, the
application was stopped. This value was recorded in the laboratory manual. The temperature sensor
was rinsed off then wiped, the beaker was re–filled with ice, and the test tube was put into the test
tube rack to be thawed. Once thawed, this was discarded into the waste bin

Turning Points In To Kill A Mockingbird
"Everything has to evolve or else it perishes" (Knowles 125). Turning points are the moments in our
lives that define who we are and how we feel; they help us evolve into different people. Often, that
evolution comes from a loss of innocence. In Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem changes
from a naive and optimistic child to a young adult with a more realistic view of life. In John
Knowles' A Separate Peace, Finny also struggles with dealing with the reality of a world he doesn't
really fit in. Both boys face turning points that fundamentally change who they are, and in some
ways, destroy them. Phineas was a bubbly, charismatic, happy go lucky person who seemed to love
life and all the opportunities it brought. However, Finny's life completely changed when he fell out
of a tree and shattered his leg. Sports exemplified Finny, friendly competition with no clear winners
or losers. After Finny learned that he could not walk or play sports anymore, his once optimistic
thoughts changed. Later in the novel, Finny was no longer the happy, energetic person he used to be.
He was depressed about the current state he was in and upset that he couldn't enlist in the military.

Finny denied the war was because he was hurt by the fact that he couldn't participate. The fake war
was a way to hide his pain. He admitted to Gene that if the military accepted him, he would have

Melting Point Lab Report
Abstract: The melting point and mixed melting point methods were used to determine identity and
purity of samples. The melting points were obtained from phenacetin, acetaminophen, tartaric acid,
and 9:1 mixture of phenacetin and acetaminophen by using an apparatus. The melting point range of
phecacetin, acetaminophen, tartaric acid, and 9:1 mixture of phenacetin and acetaminophen were
123.4–124.8oC, 154.4–155.1oC, 154.3–157.5oC, and 104.3–114.9oC respectively. With a melting
range of 121.8–123.9oC, unknown tube 10 was identified to be phenacetin.

Phenacetin had a sharp melting point range (1.4 oC) meant that there was no trace of impurities. The
melting point range of acetaminophen was 154.4–155.1oC what was about 15 oC lower than the
literature value (169–172 oC); however, experimental melting point of acetaminophen had a sharp
melting point range of 0.7 oC demonstrating that the compound was pure. The melting point of
tartaric acid was 154.3–157.5oC what was approximately 17 oC lower than expectation. Tartaric
acid's melting point range was 3.2 oC which was not expected for a pure compound, it might be a
human error while observing otherwise it might be a trace of impurity in the compound due to a
present of solvent such as water1. The melting point of the 9:1 mixture of phenacetin and
acetaminophen was 104.3–114.9oC explaining that impurities had lower and broader melting point
range. The possible reason to explain why the overall experimental melting points were consistently

Results The results show that the highest melting point was 4–Hydroxybenzoic Acid and the lowest
melting point was Sulfosalicylic Acid. The highest boiling point was Octanol and lowest boiling
point was Methanol. When it came to the percent error the highest percent error calculated was
pentanol and the lowest percent error was Propanol.
Discussion
During this lab the melting point ranges and boiling points were recorded from several substances.
Based upon the structures of these various samples certain trends were expected to be followed. For
example, with the melting points of pure substances are usually higher than the melting points of
impure substances. In this lab the melting point of Benzoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, 3–Hydroxybenzoic
Acid, 4–Hydroxybenzoic Acid, and Sulfosalicylic Acid were taken. If we apply the concept of pure
substances having higher boiling points, it was expected for substances like 3–Hydroxybenzoic Acid
and 4–Hydroxybenzoic Acid to have higher melting points and for substances like Benzoic Acid and
Salicylic Acid to have lower melting points. As for Sulfosalicylic Acid, its melting point was the
lowest so it was assumed that the substance was the most impure. It was proven that the fewer
impurities call for higher melting points. This is due to the crystalline lattices structure of repeating
ions or molecules. This lattice is held together by intermolecular forces that create a strong, stable
structure. The solid must be heated to a certain

Wilson's Fourteen Points
Wilson's Fourteen Points: a Path to Peace or to Renewed Conflict
Wilson's Fourteen Points were a decent attempt at peace and restitution after the Great War;
however, there were many inherent problems with the Wilsonian agenda. These problems were
caused by many things, including Allied bias, American ambition, and Western European
dominance. While trying to fix many problems in Europe, the Fourteen Points mainly concentrated
on the things that were important to the Allied powers: France was bent on revenge, Great Britain
was looking to further its power over the seas, and America was keen on becoming an even more
powerful trade nation.

Allowing the union of Austria and Germany would only make Germany stronger, something France
especially did not want. Self–determination was also used against Germany in other ways. By
allowing Poland to become a country with access to the sea, Germany would be split in half, and
former German territory would now be known as the Polish Corridor. Territory was also taken away
from Germany to create the nation of Lithuania.
The war had other consequences for Germany besides loss of territory. Germany was punished
tremendously by the Wilsonian agenda and, ultimately, the Treaty of Versailles. Although Germany
was seen as the main aggressor in World War I, they were only upholding an alliance, as did every
other European country involved in World War I. In losing the war, Germany was subjected to the
harsh will of neighboring France, whose ego, still bruised from the Franco–Prussian War could now
be healed. France used the Fourteen Points to try and "undo, what, since 1870 the progress of
Germany had accomplished" (Keynes pp 2). This included taking back the disputed regions of
Alsace–Lorriane, returning the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein to Denmark, demilitarizing the
country, which included the dismantling of rail roads, taking away all colonial holdings as well as
the new territories Germany had acquired from Russia

Janet 's Point Of View
Janet's Point of View in "The Storm" McKnight Malmar's story, "The Storm", is a suspenseful short
story about a woman, later in the story revealed to be named Janet, coming home to an empty house
with no sign of her husband, Ben. The story is told in third person limited point of view where the
reader follows Janet who has to process her husband being gone, and finding the lifeless body of a
woman while alone in her isolated home during a thunderstorm. The story starts with Janet being
excited and relieved to come home to her husband, where she imagines a kind, almost platonic Ben
to welcome her home by kissing her cheeks and touching her shoulders (Malmar, Pg. 1). Through
the progression of the story, Janet uses her time alone to shift her happy thoughts of Ben into doubt
and reason. During the storm, Janet is able to see her life with Ben as the abusive relationship it
truly is. The first portion of the story begins with Janet having high regards for her husband and the
house they live in. She imagined a surprised Ben "sitting by the fire with his paper" inside their
home, with his face lighting up at her early return. In the kitchen, she would make coffee for the two
of them and talk by the fire. She sits in the house without Ben, who is not home, and while alone,
her attention shifts from her idealistic scenario involving her husband to the ongoing storm and how
it appears to be getting worse. From this point of the story and onwards, Janet battles herself and

The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
Many phenomena exist within the world; whether it be the butterfly effect, the small world theory,
or even the laws of gravity, these entities shape reality. In the book The Tipping Point, Malcolm
Gladwell analyzes an effect he coins the "tipping point". The "tipping point" essentially is the point
at which small, seemingly insignificant changes become significant enough to cause a large and
often times important change . Throughout the text of this novel, Gladwell explores this notion more
in–depth; he utilizes real world examples such as the re–emergence of Hush Puppies, a popular
footwear item, and dissects the epidemic of the syphilis outbreak in Baltimore, Maryland in order to
achieve this purpose. The underlying principles in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His ability to make relationships and acquire information made him the best person to take the role
as initial adopter. The qualities of Paul Revere allowed him to initialize a complete cascade in his
network of early American settlers during his "Midnight Ride". The final connection between The
Tipping Point and diffusion in relation to the Law of the Few deals with the importance of weak ties.
Weak ties allow for information to be relayed across clusters of a network. Without the appearance
of weak ties, diffusion would be rather difficult to accomplish. The prime example of an individual
who possessed many weak ties goes by the name Roger Horchow. In The Tipping Point, Horchow is
a master at creating relationships and bonds in areas of life in which he had no real expertise.
Horchow had social connections in the arts, technology, agriculture, architecture, business, law,
health care, and any other occupational field . Horchow and his social connections were edges in
which information could be passed along seamlessly from one cluster to another, making the
possibility of a complete cascade much more probable regarding diffusion. Besides the Law of the
Few, Gladwell attributes the occurrence of a "tipping point" and its relation to diffusion with the
Law of Stickiness as well.
The Law of Stickiness bases much of its philosophy upon the notion that there are certain factors

degrees Celsius and the mixture was 12.0 degrees Celsius. After finding the two temperatures, we
subtracted the average temperature of the t–butyl alcohol and the freezing point of solution to get
11.1 degrees Celsius. Then, we divided the 11.1 by 8.37 °C/m to get the molality, which was
1.32616 m. Afterwards, we found the moles of solute by multiplying the kilograms of the t–butyl
alcohol (0.01898 kg) by the molality to get 0.025170 moles. To find the molar mass, you divide the
mass of the unknown by the moles of the unknown. When our group did these steps, we got an

The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
Precis 4 In chapter three of his book, The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell, a five time New York
Times best selling author, asserts the idea that "the Stickiness factor" is important in getting people 's
attention and says that the content of the message matters. He develops his claim through the
development and history of Sesame Street and Blue's Clues, the addition of a map on a Tetanus Shot
brochure, a little gold box to a mail order for a music company advertisement, and additional
marketing and advertising examples. Gladwell looks at and uses as two main examples the popular
children shows Sesame Street and Blue's Clues (which followed the example of Sesame Street).
However, "Sesame Street was built about a single ,breakthrough insight: that if you can hold the
attention of kids, you can educate them." To show how well kids payed attention to the show, the
creators split the show up, and put it out of order. They found that the majority of the tested kids
payed less attention because they couldn't comprehend or understand what was happening, there was
no flow, giving it no stick. In the beginning, the shows ratings were at a level no one wants for a
show, It wasn't until the producers of the show added human characters to interact with the muppets.
Gladwell also mentions how one of the founders, Ed Palmer, added "the distracter." What Palmer
did was play a slideshow next to an episode of Sesame Street, he then kept track of when the kids

Symbolism In The Tipping Point
How big is the world? Some might ponder and the answer is, not as big as it seems. The world isn't
a scary, huge and untouchable place, as it is perceived to be. In reality, the universe is just a blank
canvas filled with unique and mesmerizing people. That shapes our world into what it has become.
The world would never be what it is without the people living on it. In the Tipping Point, Malcolm
Gladwell explains the theory of the world and how it seems to be and control everything. Although,
it's the people in the world that make a difference. However people don't believe they can change
and make a difference in the world, but they can. Everyone has the power to change the world and
shape their lives and others. Therefore it's up to them to decide if it will be for good or evil. In The
Tipping point, Malcolm Gladwell uses the motif of how little things can make a big difference, for
example, hush puppies. This motif signifies how the slightest movement in just the right place can
change the world completely. We all have the power, but it can just take one to change the world.
Malcolm Gladwell describes how the world may seem immovable and implacable, but with even the
slightest push in just the right place, it can be tipped. This quote is extremely visual and accurate, it
keeps the writing thinking, even questioning their own thoughts. Saying, Is this true? Can really one
person make a big difference?. Even if you think you can't change the world, you're

Melting Point Lab
The tables above display the melting point range of each of the chemicals tested. Table 1 represents
the results found in part 1 of the lab. It was found that the 50–50 mix has the lowest melting point.
This is likely because the less pure a compound is, the lower its melting point will be. The 50–50
mix is the least pure of the 3 compounds so therefore the melting point was lower. In Part two of the
lab it was found that the melting point range of the unknown compound (shown in table 2) is closest
to the melting point of trans–cinnamic acid. To confirm this, the melting point of the unknown
compound was tested next to trans–cinnamic acid and a 50–50 mix of trans–cinnamic acid and the
unknown compound. As seen in table 3, while the start point of each of the compounds varied, all
three of the compounds had an extremely similar end point. ... Show more content on

The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
The Tipping Point, written by Malcolm Gladwell, attempts to explain how epidemics start. Malcolm
Gladwell defines The Tipping Point as, "the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling
point". This book looks into that point in which ideas someone has, products being sold, and
messages from shows spread in the same way a virus does. There are three aspects described in this
book which are The Law of the Few, The Stickiness Factor, and The Power of Context. The Law of
the Few is described in this book as "the success of any kind of social epidemic heavily dependent
on the involvement of people with a particular and rare set of social gifts". Three types of people are
focused upon in this book which are connectors, mavens, and salesmen. The connectors are the
people whose network consist of people from an array of professional backgrounds and locations.
They are able to link people together and have great social skills. The mavens are the people who
accumulate a lot of knowledge. They 're constantly obtaining knowledge by sharing and receiving
information and trying to solve other people's problems. They may know the best coffee spots, the
best car repair shop, or the best restaurant. They have excellent communication skills and usually
start word of mouth epidemics. The salesmen are very influential and are brilliant negotiators. They
have a persona that makes people believe in them that goes beyond what they say. Malcolm

Summary Of Tipping Point
In this chapter of Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, he talks about rumors, sneakers and the
power of translation. Throughout the chapter he kept with the theme of change and the way that
things can change over time. The concept of change and shoes throughout this chapter is evident.
Gladwell writes, "They expanded their focus to include not just skateboarding but also surfing,
snowboarding, mountain biking, and bicycle racing, sponsoring riders in all of those sports and
making Arwalk synonymous with active, alternative lifestyle"( Gladwell 194). Many people ask
why do they have to produce so much more to compliment everyone in every sport or just for

The Tipping Point Essay
Summer Reading Essay In The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell, the tone clearly drives the
strategy to be logos. Logos is an exceptional rhetorical strategy as it persuades the reader, not
through the use of emotions and feelings, but rather through the use of logic and reasoning. There
exists an energy in the style in which Gladwell writes that has the power to persuade the audience to
believe what he believes in, the Tipping Point. Gladwell does not only give us his theory on how
epidemics spread, but uses logos to connect the world we live in to his theory. The author's use of
logos results in a greater impact of the rhetoric. When referring to the Power of Context, Gladwell
states the theory and the facts to support it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Law of the Few, Stickiness Factor and Power of Context. A celebrity is always seen a connector,
people who have incredibly widespread "social networks" that play an integral role in the spread of

Physics Of Boiling Point Elevation
Introduction–
The experiments studied here were used to help shed light on the importance of molality.
Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions.
Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a
graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this
group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling
points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through
hands on experimentation.
Materials–
The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data–collection
interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula,
graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,)
400.00ml of distilled water (H2O)
Procedure–
The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring stand.
They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced directly
away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to measure
out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. For the three non–control tests, glucose and table salt
were added to the distilled water at this step. Before placing the beaker of solution onto the hotplate,

Demming's Fourteen Points
Demming's formulation of his Fourteen Points is seen by many as the management equivalent of the
"10 Commandments". Like many quality driven approaches, the fourteen points take a holistic view

Point 1: Create constancy of purpose towards improvement of product and service, wth the aim to

Point 5: Improve constantly and forever the system of production and service to improve quality and

Point 6: Institute training on the job.
Too often workers learn their skill from other workers who do not have adaquate training. It is
useful to train as many workers as possible to detract from costly mistakes.
Point 7: Institute leadership. The aim of supervision should be to help people and machines to do a

Managers should be trainers, not policemen. Since management plays a key role in quality, reviews
should include discussion on problems and potential solutions.

Tipping Point Research Paper
Many parts of our daily life revolve around social sciences and are caused by much more research
and in–depth thought than we may originally realize. Innumerable products, ideas, epidemics, and
modern thought processes are the product of tipping points. For any idea to gain enough ground to
become popular to a large audience, it has to have a very specific environment and the idea must be
spread at very certain times in history. There is a very precarious balance to making anything have
the ability to be prominent or sought after. Nature, political revolutions, and credibility and

The credibility of a person depends on many different elements. Credibility can pertain to
trustworthiness and expertise. Trustworthiness is affected by things like reliability and
characteristics of the person. Expertise is affected by credentials and proven skill (Flanagin,
Metzger, 4). The same person may be perceived as credible at one point in time, but may lack
credibility later in time. Credibility is largely based on what we as a society are experiencing during
that time period. Small things may affect credibility that we would not originally think to include. If
a person were to see an ad every day about a certain lawyer, they might think of the lawyer if it
comes a time for them to need a lawyer. But if someone were to hear about how wonderful a certain
lawyer is from a friend or coworker, that person would be more likely to use that lawyer if the need
arose. It stands to reason that people are more likely to trust people they know blindly when it
comes to credibility. Appearance is another aspect of credibility that would not always be
considered. Much of the time it is subconscious, but people are more likely to trust a person or
service if the staff or spokesperson is attractive physically

Fourteen Points: Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points

ideas and principles of progressivism. Woodrow Wilson's fourteen points were democratic and
liberal. The leaders of the victorious allied nations and Wilson contended at the Paris Peace
Conference. Many of the leaders disagreed with the fourteen points because they wanted harsh
punishments for Germany. Thus, Wilson pushed for the establishment of the League of Nations to

the United States from entering until it was absolutely necessary. During the war, in a meeting with

Wilson called World War II "The war to end all wars." It is very likely he would want to see this
through to the end and make sure that world war would never happen again. Because of this, many
of his fourteen points were very peaceful and did not appoint a winner or loser. It also required a
great deal of international cooperation in which many countries were not ready to participate.
Absolute freedom of naval navigation in either peace or war is quite a long stretch for many of the
nations that had just been severely battered and blockaded. International reduction of arms and the
removal of economic barriers had the possibility of reducing the defense, both militarily and
economically to dangerously low levels. His fourteen points also made many suggestions
concerning land and areas that had been involved in conflict stretching back even to the Prussian
occupation of Alsace–Lorraine. Such suggestions included an evaluation of colonial claims, of
Russian territory, and the restoration of states like Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Of course, the
Alsace–Lorraine was to be restored to France, which caused even more of a struggle for Germany to
support itself. All of these were penultimate to Wilson's sincere desire for a league of many nations
working together to promote world peace. Wilson conceded so many of his points in order to keep
the League of Nations. He saw this as the most important product because it was meant to

Abstract This experiment evaluated and reviewed the concepts used to identify unknown molecules.
The experiment includes a boiling point trial, a melting point trial and an infrared spectrometry trial.
All of the following were proved as sufficient methods to identify the unknown molecules.
Introduction
In this lab, we will be using boiling points, melting points and infrared spectrometry to identify
unknown compounds. Boiling points are affect by three key factors the first being intermolecular
forces. Inter molecular affect boiling point based on bond strength. This is directly related to what
functional group is attached. Ionic bonding is said to cause a higher boiling point then the other
intermolecular forces, due to a strong attraction in the bond. "The two other factors that affect
boiling point would be the number of carbons and amount of branching of carbon chain" (3 Trends
that affect boiling points). "Infrared spectrometry is irradiating a sample with infrared frequencies,
which then shows what frequencies were absorbed. The absorbance numbers can then be directly
tied to certain functional groups" (Klein, 2007). All of these concepts will be used and evaluated
during this lab.

Points to Consider When Giving a Speech Essay
Now that I have delivered my first speech, I feel fortunate to only be held accountable for what I

I believe the audience subconsciously demands that the body of the speech is well organized and
informative. This is important to ensure that the audience stays engaged in the presentation.

my points out more effectively. As I gain more experience in the public speaking arena, I believe I
will be able to condense the main points effectively in the time I am allotted.
We all want our listeners to stay interested in what we have to say; in formal public speaking, and
everyday conversation. It seems far easier to keep the audience interested in everyday conversation
because the setting is generally more informal. However, in a formal setting, connectives are vital to
keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. I now realize that simply pausing between main
points are not good connectives,in most cases. Pausing, in my opinion, gives the audience an
opportunity to mentally drift away from the speech, depending on the length of the pause. Pausing
may be acceptable if the speaker is using signposts, but when signposts are used, the audience is
made aware of what's coming after the pause, which makes them more likely to keep listening. In
my opinion, connectives are extremely important in certain situations where the audience is only
attending out of necessity such as in a business meeting. In these situations, many members of
audience aren't very interested to begin with. A speaker needs to use effective connectives or risk

Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy
What are Trigger Points?
Commonly referred to as myofascial trigger points in the medical profession, these locations on
your body are a common cause of discomfort and pain. These areas commonly produce referred
pain, meaning that pain from this area can be found in other muscle groups and joints away from the
source of the pain itself. This is why myofascial discomfort in one's spine or shoulder often causes
headaches and neck pain.
What Causes This Pain?
This intense pain can come from a variety of sources, including bad posture, excess weight, physical
injury or stress, joint problems, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and even poor sleep. If you are
suffering from joint pain or spinal pain, you may have visited a medical professional and been told
that it was a result of a weak or injured joint, or even a bulging or misaligned disc. However, the
pain quite possibly could have resulted from a trigger point issue. ... Show more content on

Office professionals often develop severe pain from sitting in the same position all day long and by
using their keyboard and mouse in the same manner day–in and day–out for years. Additionally,
video game users frequently report pain from their steady use of their hands and fingers in an
unnatural way. Assembly line workers, construction workers, and even gardeners can suffer from
similar pain as a result of repetitive motion. This sort of pain is also found fairly regularly in new
mothers, who suffer hip pain as a result of carrying their newborn around with them.
Another common culprit of this type of pain is poor posture due to infrequent exercise and strength
training. Additionally, those that suffer from consistent stress often face pain as well. Constant
muscle clenching and physical tension can take a toll on the body, leading to muscle imbalances and
chronic pain.

Types Of Nonsense Point Mutation
Genetic Disorders of Nonsense Point Mutations
Gene expression is regulated by the cell, and genetic mutations can cause permanent changes in the
cell's genetic material. Specifically, one type of mutation that occurs in a cell's DNA is a nonsense
point mutation. In this type of mutation, a chemical change in only one nitrogenous base results in a
premature stop codon. This causes the translation to end early. In the given strand of DNA, the
nitrogenous base Adenine was affected. Thymine was substituted in Adenine's place. Therefore, the
amino acid chain was altered, causing a premature stop codon. The sequence no longer continued
after the stop codon was in place due to the mutation. However, if no mutation occurred, the

Hurler syndrome is one of three types of mucopolysaccharidosis and it is the most severe. The
symptoms of Hurler Syndrome usually appear between the ages of three and eight (Foster, 2017).
Many infants with severe Hurler syndrome demonstrate no symptoms until later in life. A few
symptoms of this disorder are as followed: claw hands, deafness, stunted growth, joint disease,
progressive intellectual disability, and retardation (A.D.A.M, 2017). Moreover, symptoms of this
disease can range from mild to severe. Foster (2017) demonstrates that patients with this disease
have thick, coarse facial features and low nasal bridges. A series of examinations, such as an EKG
and a spinal X–ray, can be executed to test for Hurler Syndrome early on.
Though both disorders are incurable, there is a plethora of treatment options available. For example,
Eteplirsen is an approved injection medication that helps treat individuals with a specific mutation
of the gene that leads to DMD (Anirudh, 2017). However, the most commonly seen side effects of
this treatment option are balance problems and vomiting. Eteplirsen works by increasing the
production of dystrophin which could ultimately improve muscle function. In addition, surgeries are
also available to fix shortened muscles, straighten the spine, or treat a heart or lung problem.

Essay Woody Point Music Festival Case Study

  • 1. Essay Woody Point Music Festival Case Study Woody Point Festival Case Analysis Introduction With its inception in 2004, the Writers at Woody Point Festival have become an ever increasingly popular annual literature festival for Newfoundland's west coast. The festival has grown each year and has now reached the point where council believes a formal marketing strategy and plan is necessary for the festivals short and long term economic sustainability in the ever– increasingly competitive literature festival market. To create the marketing strategy for the festival, analysis will include looking at the events strengths and weaknesses, as well as its opportunities and threats in its external environment. Viable options will then be considered that will dismiss managements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The festival which already receives funding from major companies, can seek out new music focused company sponsorship's that will provide aid for the costs of the concerts. The last opportunity for the festival includes the role it can provide in educating the local youth about local cultural music, theater, and arts. Many may grow up to have a strong appreciation towards their own communities' festival. Threats for the festival should raise concern as they can affect future outlook and growth potential. An immediate threat is the competing reading festivals in the area and country during the summer months of July and August. These other festivals can greatly affect numbers for the Writers at Woody Point Festival as potential customers may choose to attend, and spend money travelling to these other venues throughout the year and summer months. Another threat is the uncertainty of having to rent out the Woody Point Heritage Theatre each year. A competing festival or event could rent or even buy the theatre therefore taking away the venue of the festival, or charge a ridiculous amount to rent. The relative age of returning customers may also pose potential threat for festival organizers as they target younger crowds with music concerts, they may give grief and thus upsetting the customers there for the book readings, which is the festivals primary source of revenue. The analysis above has made it apparent that the festival has/ need of; outgrown its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Based on the amount of points and the type of licence (fully licensed or not), different actions and consequences will be taken. The severities of the convictions will also determine the amount of points added. 7 point infractions include failing to stop when ordered by a police officer and failing to remain at the scene of a collision. Some 6 point infractions include exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/hour or more, racing, and careless driving. 5 demerit points will be added for bus drivers if they fail to stop at a railroad crossing. 4 point infractions are exceeding the speed by 30 to 49 km/hour and following too ... • 5. Essay on The Tipping Point The Tipping Point What can one consider being a tipping point in a situation. Is it when a situation changes from bad to worse? Could it be when it changes from good to better? Or could it be from when it changes from a bad situation and all of a sudden it turns around and becomes good? In my essay we are going to explore the tipping point from four different authors: Malcolm Gladwell, Mary G. King, Lynne M. Anderson, and Christine M. Pearson. From subject of: hush puppies, teen suicide, crime, smoking, incivility in the workplace and the black women's breakthrough into clerical work. There could be many reasons why there were tipping points in these topics, but I will shed light on how hush puppies, which was a fad, had life put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It had gotten so popular that famous designers were ordering them for their fashion shows and popular actors such as Pee Wee Herman was wearing them and they took off from there. New York crime grew at an alarming rate from the 1980's to 1990's even as early as 1970's shows increase in crime. Some statistics from New York Law Enforcement Agency Uniform Crime Reports 1960– 2009 (www.diastercenter.com): Murders: 1970– 1,444, 1973– 2,020 1976–1,976, 1979–2,092, 1982–2,013, 1985–1,683, 1988–2,244, 1990–2,605, 1998–924. It was said that during those time that when the sun went down the neighbors was infested with gangs and drug dealers and with the most of the crime taken place in Brownville and East New York (Gladewell, 2005). It wasn't until 1998 that crime had took a sudden decline and dropped 64.4% in Brownville and East New York (Gladwell, 2005). So what brought on the sudden tipping point? Depends on who is asked is where you will get your answer. New York police will tell you that their police strategies dramatically improved, criminologists will tell you that the crack trade and aging of the population is what made that change. Economist will point to the city's economy improvements over the course of the 1990's that effected the employment. It would be hard to say that one particular issue is the reason why without being able to take that situation out to see if it had an effect, but with them all, improvements were made and a tipping ... The Tipping Point To promote a new breakfast cereal in an already crowded market is not an easy thing to do; especially if the one who is trying to promote a new cereal wants to make a huge success on that project, it might be able to a very serious problem. However, if the one follow and correctly apply what Malcom Gladwell, the author of The Tipping Point, says in his book, it will definitely increases the possibility of success. There are three factors that help to make a huge success on their cereal promotion. The first is that the law of few, which is about connectors, mavens, and Salesmen. • 18. Tipping Point Analysis Timothy Phillips Laurie Bartels AP English III 19 September 2017 An Analysis of Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell is all about "social epidemics and the moment when they take off, when the reach their critical point" as well as the theory that "ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do". In this book, Gladwell attempts to give a thorough analysis and commentary to prove through different trends and scientific studies the conclusions he makes during the novel. Gladwell's main purpose in the novel is to use pop culture references and relatable anecdotes to educate the general public on the complexities of the theories he presents throughout the novel. The Tipping point is not only a sociologically rich text, but also a scientific, comprehensive "examination of the social epidemics around us" Malcolm Gladwell is the bestselling author of nonfiction books about sociology, with "all of his five books published on The New York Times Best Seller list", all receiving high acclaim and press. Before he wrote his first book, The Tipping Point, Gladwell was a journalist for the Washington Post from 1987 until 1996. He followed his time there with working for The New Yorker, where he currently continues to write. As the demand for his unorthodox writing style and books rose, so did the demand for his public speaking on topics related to his books.Since that time, Mr. Gladwell has received 2 honorary degrees, as well as ... Melting Point Lab Experiment #1: Purification of a Solid: Crystallization and Melting Point: Joseph Katz and Melissa Colwell Binghamton University, Department of Chemistry, Binghamton, New York 13902 Introduction: One of the most important parts of this experiment was the concept of the melting point. The melting point is the temperature at which a substance turns from a solid into a liquid. Every substance has a specific temperature of melting point although any impurities in a substance will lower the temperature required to melt it. This means that as more impurities are removed, the closer the melting point of a substance will get closer to the real melting point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the amount recovered was high, the crystals still had a yellow color, showing that impurities remained in the sample. However, the melting point was within the range of the acid identified. Conclusion: The experiment determined that the unknown sample was phthalic acid due to the melting point of 208.9 degrees Celsius. The correction of the machine was found to be 0.3 degrees Celsius, and it was machine #5. The percent recovered was determined to be 91.67%. • 22. Melting Point And Boling Point Introduction: Melting point and Boling point are two fundamental physical properties that are commonly used to identify unknown compounds, to verify already known compounds, and to determine the purity of compounds.2 If the compound is a solid, the procedure for melting point determination is followed. However, if it is a liquid a boiling point technique must be performed, such as distillation or refluxing.2 The melting point determination consists of five major steps: obtain the sample and make sure it is grinded, fill 2–3 capillary tubes with the sample, ensure that the sample is tightly packed, insert the tubes into the Melting Point Apparatus to run a fast and a slow ramp, and finally record the data.3 Grinding the sample could be done by several methods. A large stainless steel spatula could be used to directly crush the tiny crystals into fine powder, or the sample could be first placed within a folded piece of filter paper and then pressed with the spatula.2 A mortar and pestle are also an appropriate instrument to grind the sample.4 Next, the adequate amount of sample, which is 1–2mm, should be collected with each capillary tube.2 If less sample is collected, it is much harder to see when the first and last droplets form, making it difficult for the chemist to record melting range temperatures.6 If the capillary tubes are filled with larger sample, this could cause uneven heating during the fast and slow ramps and could also provide inaccurate melting range that is ... • 24. Tipping Point Analysis A Synthesis of Tipping Points The 21st century experiences countless fashions and trends as they come and go. There are many new shirts, new book genres, new flashy games etc. that are not uncommon news headlines. However, one must consider exactly how these trends spill into mainstream outlets in the first place. What causes an arbitrary fashion choice to become the epitome of a teenage girl's dream shoe closet? What causes a noxious and hazardous activity to become a full blown addiction? In Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference, he focuses on finding the answer to such questions. His work specifically proposes a theory on how mainstream epidemics gain initial traction and can simply tip and grow exponentially. A mainstream trend does not merely appear without warning–most likely, the thought behind the trend had been around for a while. According to Gladwell, in order for a trend to grow amidst the influx of newer trends, three types of people must be working hard behind the scenes. In the chapter "Case Study: Rumors, Sneakers, and the Power of Translation", Gladwell details the roles of Connectors, Mavens, and Salesmen, and how they unknowingly act together as a bridge between hipsters and mainstream media. Gladwell's assessment of the Connectors is valid, as they play the role of the bridge itself as he/she has to be cogent and merge two completely different strata. An excellent portrayal of this would be Gladwell's example ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Freezing Point Depression Lab Introduction The objectives in this laboratory were to be able to calculate the freezing point depression among three trials of unknowns, be able to correctly measure the freezing points of p– xylene, and to be able to calculate the molar masses of the unknowns by found freezing point depression values. This was done to be able to understand and apply a concept names supercooling. Supercooling is when a liquid is put far under its original freezing point and remains a liquid or gas. This happens when a substance is cooled so quickly that it's easier for it to stay a liquid than to crystalize, until it reached its nucleation point and begins to heat up returning to its freezing point (image 4). A dry polypropylene test tube was obtained and approximately 2 mL of p–xylene was squirted into it with the use of a pipette. This was added to the beaker and weighed. 10 drops of toluene was then added and weighed again. The polypropylene test tube, which now contained 10 mL of p–xylene and 10 drops toluene was removed from the beaker and placed into a replica 100 mL beaker which was halfway filled with an ice water mixture. The temperature sensor, which was connected to the microlab application was placed inside of the polypropylene test tube and stirred rapidly around the outskirts of the bottom of the polypropylene test tube. The mixture began freezing, giving off an icy slush complex. Once the temperature appeared to have reached the nucleation point and leveled out at its freezing point, the application was stopped. This value was recorded in the laboratory manual. The temperature sensor was rinsed off then wiped, the beaker was re–filled with ice, and the test tube was put into the test tube rack to be thawed. Turning points are the moments in our lives that define who we are and how we feel; they help us evolve into different people. Often, that evolution comes from a loss of innocence. In Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem changes from a naive and optimistic child to a young adult with a more realistic view of life. In John Knowles' A Separate Peace, Finny also struggles with dealing with the reality of a world he doesn't really fit in. Both boys face turning points that fundamentally change who they are, and in some ways, destroy them. Phineas was a bubbly, charismatic, happy go lucky person who seemed to love life and all the opportunities it brought. The melting points were obtained from phenacetin, acetaminophen, tartaric acid, and 9:1 mixture of phenacetin and acetaminophen by using an apparatus. The melting point range of phecacetin, acetaminophen, tartaric acid, and 9:1 mixture of phenacetin and acetaminophen were 123.4–124.8oC, 154.4–155.1oC, 154.3–157.5oC, and 104.3–114.9oC respectively. With a melting range of 121.8–123.9oC, unknown tube 10 was identified to be phenacetin. The melting point range of acetaminophen was 154.4–155.1oC what was about 15 oC lower than the literature value (169–172 oC); however, experimental melting point of acetaminophen had a sharp melting point range of 0.7 oC demonstrating that the compound was pure. The melting point of tartaric acid was 154.3–157.5oC what was approximately 17 oC lower than expectation. Tartaric acid's melting point range was 3.2 oC which was not expected for a pure compound, it might be a human error while observing otherwise it might be a trace of impurity in the compound due to a present of solvent such as water1. The melting point of the 9:1 mixture of phenacetin and acetaminophen was 104.3–114.9oC explaining that impurities had lower and broader melting point range. • 32. The Melting Point And Boiling Point Results The results show that the highest melting point was 4–Hydroxybenzoic Acid and the lowest melting point was Sulfosalicylic Acid. The highest boiling point was Octanol and lowest boiling point was Methanol. When it came to the percent error the highest percent error calculated was pentanol and the lowest percent error was Propanol. Discussion During this lab the melting point ranges and boiling points were recorded from several substances. Based upon the structures of these various samples certain trends were expected to be followed. For example, with the melting points of pure substances are usually higher than the melting points of impure substances. In this lab the melting point of Benzoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, 3–Hydroxybenzoic Acid, 4–Hydroxybenzoic Acid, and Sulfosalicylic Acid were taken. If we apply the concept of pure substances having higher boiling points, it was expected for substances like 3–Hydroxybenzoic Acid and 4–Hydroxybenzoic Acid to have higher melting points and for substances like Benzoic Acid and Salicylic Acid to have lower melting points. As for Sulfosalicylic Acid, its melting point was the lowest so it was assumed that the substance was the most impure. It was proven that the fewer impurities call for higher melting points. This is due to the crystalline lattices structure of repeating ions or molecules. This lattice is held together by intermolecular forces that create a strong, stable structure. Wilson's Fourteen Points Wilson's Fourteen Points: a Path to Peace or to Renewed Conflict Wilson's Fourteen Points were a decent attempt at peace and restitution after the Great War; however, there were many inherent problems with the Wilsonian agenda. These problems were caused by many things, including Allied bias, American ambition, and Western European dominance. While trying to fix many problems in Europe, the Fourteen Points mainly concentrated on the things that were important to the Allied powers: France was bent on revenge, Great Britain was looking to further its power over the seas, and America was keen on becoming an even more powerful trade nation. Territory was also taken away from Germany to create the nation of Lithuania. The war had other consequences for Germany besides loss of territory. Germany was punished tremendously by the Wilsonian agenda and, ultimately, the Treaty of Versailles. Although Germany was seen as the main aggressor in World War I, they were only upholding an alliance, as did every other European country involved in World War I. Janet 's Point Of View Janet's Point of View in "The Storm" McKnight Malmar's story, "The Storm", is a suspenseful short story about a woman, later in the story revealed to be named Janet, coming home to an empty house with no sign of her husband, Ben. The story is told in third person limited point of view where the reader follows Janet who has to process her husband being gone, and finding the lifeless body of a woman while alone in her isolated home during a thunderstorm. The story starts with Janet being excited and relieved to come home to her husband, where she imagines a kind, almost platonic Ben to welcome her home by kissing her cheeks and touching her shoulders (Malmar, Pg. 1). Through the progression of the story, Janet uses her time alone to shift her happy thoughts of Ben into doubt and reason. During the storm, Janet is able to see her life with Ben as the abusive relationship it truly is. The first portion of the story begins with Janet having high regards for her husband and the house they live in. She imagined a surprised Ben "sitting by the fire with his paper" inside their home, with his face lighting up at her early return. In the kitchen, she would make coffee for the two of them and talk by the fire. She sits in the house without Ben, who is not home, and while alone, her attention shifts from her idealistic scenario involving her husband to the ongoing storm and how it appears to be getting worse. The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell Many phenomena exist within the world; whether it be the butterfly effect, the small world theory, or even the laws of gravity, these entities shape reality. In the book The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell analyzes an effect he coins the "tipping point". The "tipping point" essentially is the point at which small, seemingly insignificant changes become significant enough to cause a large and often times important change . Throughout the text of this novel, Gladwell explores this notion more in–depth; he utilizes real world examples such as the re–emergence of Hush Puppies, a popular footwear item, and dissects the epidemic of the syphilis outbreak in Baltimore, Maryland in order to achieve this purpose. The qualities of Paul Revere allowed him to initialize a complete cascade in his network of early American settlers during his "Midnight Ride". The final connection between The Tipping Point and diffusion in relation to the Law of the Few deals with the importance of weak ties. Weak ties allow for information to be relayed across clusters of a network. Without the appearance of weak ties, diffusion would be rather difficult to accomplish. The prime example of an individual who possessed many weak ties goes by the name Roger Horchow. In The Tipping Point, Horchow is a master at creating relationships and bonds in areas of life in which he had no real expertise. Horchow had social connections in the arts, technology, agriculture, architecture, business, law, health care, and any other occupational field . Horchow and his social connections were edges in which information could be passed along seamlessly from one cluster to another, making the possibility of a complete cascade much more probable regarding diffusion. Besides the Law of the Few, Gladwell attributes the occurrence of a "tipping point" and its relation to diffusion with the Law of Stickiness as well. Students then find the freezing point of the t–butyl alcohol and the unknown mixture through using an equation that goes Temp =(m2b1–m1b2)/(m2– m1). From our lab group experiment, the average temperature of the pure t–butyl alcohol was 23.1 degrees Celsius and the mixture was 12.0 degrees Celsius. After finding the two temperatures, we subtracted the average temperature of the t–butyl alcohol and the freezing point of solution to get 11.1 degrees Celsius. • 42. The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell Precis 4 In chapter three of his book, The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell, a five time New York Times best selling author, asserts the idea that "the Stickiness factor" is important in getting people 's attention and says that the content of the message matters. He develops his claim through the development and history of Sesame Street and Blue's Clues, the addition of a map on a Tetanus Shot brochure, a little gold box to a mail order for a music company advertisement, and additional marketing and advertising examples. Gladwell looks at and uses as two main examples the popular children shows Sesame Street and Blue's Clues (which followed the example of Sesame Street). However, "Sesame Street was built about a single ,breakthrough insight: that if you can hold the attention of kids, you can educate them." To show how well kids payed attention to the show, the creators split the show up, and put it out of order. They found that the majority of the tested kids payed less attention because they couldn't comprehend or understand what was happening, there was no flow, giving it no stick. In the beginning, the shows ratings were at a level no one wants for a show, It wasn't until the producers of the show added human characters to interact with the muppets. Gladwell also mentions how one of the founders, Ed Palmer, added "the distracter." What Palmer did was play a slideshow next to an episode of Sesame Street, he then kept track of when the kids ... • 44. Symbolism In The Tipping Point How big is the world? Some might ponder and the answer is, not as big as it seems. The world isn't a scary, huge and untouchable place, as it is perceived to be. In reality, the universe is just a blank canvas filled with unique and mesmerizing people. That shapes our world into what it has become. The world would never be what it is without the people living on it. In the Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell explains the theory of the world and how it seems to be and control everything. Although, it's the people in the world that make a difference. However people don't believe they can change and make a difference in the world, but they can. Everyone has the power to change the world and shape their lives and others. Therefore it's up to them to decide if it will be for good or evil. In The Tipping point, Malcolm Gladwell uses the motif of how little things can make a big difference, for example, hush puppies. This motif signifies how the slightest movement in just the right place can change the world completely. We all have the power, but it can just take one to change the world. Malcolm Gladwell describes how the world may seem immovable and implacable, but with even the slightest push in just the right place, it can be tipped. This quote is extremely visual and accurate, it keeps the writing thinking, even questioning their own thoughts. Saying, Is this true? Can really one person make a big difference?. • 48. The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell The Tipping Point, written by Malcolm Gladwell, attempts to explain how epidemics start. Malcolm Gladwell defines The Tipping Point as, "the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point". This book looks into that point in which ideas someone has, products being sold, and messages from shows spread in the same way a virus does. There are three aspects described in this book which are The Law of the Few, The Stickiness Factor, and The Power of Context. The Law of the Few is described in this book as "the success of any kind of social epidemic heavily dependent on the involvement of people with a particular and rare set of social gifts". Three types of people are focused upon in this book which are connectors, mavens, and salesmen. The connectors are the people whose network consist of people from an array of professional backgrounds and locations. They are able to link people together and have great social skills. The mavens are the people who accumulate a lot of knowledge. They 're constantly obtaining knowledge by sharing and receiving information and trying to solve other people's problems. They may know the best coffee spots, the best car repair shop, or the best restaurant. They have excellent communication skills and usually start word of mouth epidemics. • 52. The Tipping Point Essay Summer Reading Essay In The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell, the tone clearly drives the strategy to be logos. Logos is an exceptional rhetorical strategy as it persuades the reader, not through the use of emotions and feelings, but rather through the use of logic and reasoning. There exists an energy in the style in which Gladwell writes that has the power to persuade the audience to believe what he believes in, the Tipping Point. Gladwell does not only give us his theory on how epidemics spread, but uses logos to connect the world we live in to his theory. The author's use of logos results in a greater impact of the rhetoric. A celebrity is always seen a connector, people who have incredibly widespread "social networks" that play an integral role in the spread of ideas and a salesperson, a person that specializes in the act of persuasion (Gladwell). The stickiness factor plays a role in this particular trend because it shows how and why celebrities around the world are all starting a new profession. Power of contexts ... • 58. Physics Of Boiling Point Elevation Introduction– The experiments studied here were used to help shed light on the importance of molality. Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions. Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through hands on experimentation. Materials– The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data–collection interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula, graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,) 400.00ml of distilled water (H2O) Procedure– The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring stand. They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced directly away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to measure out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. For the three non–control tests, glucose and table salt were added to the distilled water at this step. Before placing the beaker of solution onto the hotplate, 1.61 grams of ... Like many quality driven approaches, the fourteen points take a holistic view of an organization, how it works, and its relationships with its stakeholders. Point 1: Create constancy of purpose towards improvement of product and service, wth the aim to become competitive, to stay in business and to provide jobs. Constancy revolves around the customer. Innumerable products, ideas, epidemics, and modern thought processes are the product of tipping points. For any idea to gain enough ground to become popular to a large audience, it has to have a very specific environment and the idea must be spread at very certain times in history. There is a very precarious balance to making anything have the ability to be prominent or sought after. Nature, political revolutions, and credibility and popularity are all events and phenomena that have tipping points and relate to The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. Credibility can pertain to trustworthiness and expertise. Trustworthiness is affected by things like reliability and characteristics of the person. Expertise is affected by credentials and proven skill (Flanagin, Metzger, 4). The same person may be perceived as credible at one point in time, but may lack credibility later in time. Credibility is largely based on what we as a society are experiencing during that time period. Small things may affect credibility that we would not originally think to include. If a person were to see an ad every day about a certain lawyer, they might think of the lawyer if it comes a time for them to need a lawyer. But if someone were to hear about how wonderful a certain lawyer is from a friend or coworker, that person would be more likely to use that lawyer if the need arose. It stands to reason that people are more likely to trust people they know blindly when it comes to credibility. Appearance is another aspect of credibility that would not always be considered. Much of the time it is subconscious, but people are more likely to trust a person or service if the staff or spokesperson is attractive physically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His goals for the speech was for the fourteen points to be used as peace negotiations after World War I, and to act as a blueprint for world peace. Also, the foreign policy reflected much of the ideas and principles of progressivism. Woodrow Wilson's fourteen points were democratic and liberal. The leaders of the victorious allied nations and Wilson contended at the Paris Peace Conference. Many of the leaders disagreed with the fourteen points because they wanted harsh punishments for Germany. Wilson Fourteen Points Although Woodrow Wilson was stoic about many of his viewpoints, his shaping of the Treaty of Versailles and the way he compromised on so many of his Fourteen Points truly shows his lack of strength in international affairs. Wilson, who was President throughout the First World War, stalled the United States from entering until it was absolutely necessary. During the war, in a meeting with advisors, he formulated a set of fourteen suggestions, which subsequently dropped into enemy territory and eventually helped form the Treaty of Versailles. Unfortunately, between the stubbornness of countries like France, who were severely disabled after the war, and Warren Harding's determination to stay out of the League of Nations, many of Wilson's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilson called World War II "The war to end all wars." It is very likely he would want to see this through to the end and make sure that world war would never happen again. Because of this, many of his fourteen points were very peaceful and did not appoint a winner or loser. It also required a great deal of international cooperation in which many countries were not ready to participate. Absolute freedom of naval navigation in either peace or war is quite a long stretch for many of the nations that had just been severely battered and blockaded. International reduction of arms and the removal of economic barriers had the possibility of reducing the defense, both militarily and economically to dangerously low levels. His fourteen points also made many suggestions concerning land and areas that had been involved in conflict stretching back even to the Prussian occupation of Alsace–Lorraine. Such suggestions included an evaluation of colonial claims, of Russian territory, and the restoration of states like Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Of course, the Alsace–Lorraine was to be restored to France, which caused even more of a struggle for Germany to support itself. All of these were penultimate to Wilson's sincere desire for a league of many nations working together to promote world peace. Wilson conceded so many of his points in order to keep the League of Nations. He saw this as the most important product because it was meant to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Lab Report On Boiling Points Laura Breuning Lab Report 4 Abstract This experiment evaluated and reviewed the concepts used to identify unknown molecules. The experiment includes a boiling point trial, a melting point trial and an infrared spectrometry trial. All of the following were proved as sufficient methods to identify the unknown molecules. Introduction In this lab, we will be using boiling points, melting points and infrared spectrometry to identify unknown compounds. Boiling points are affect by three key factors the first being intermolecular forces. Inter molecular affect boiling point based on bond strength. This is directly related to what functional group is attached. Ionic bonding is said to cause a higher boiling point then the other intermolecular forces, due to a strong attraction in the bond. "The two other factors that affect boiling point would be the number of carbons and amount of branching of carbon chain" (3 Trends that affect boiling points). "Infrared spectrometry is irradiating a sample with infrared frequencies, which then shows what frequencies were absorbed. The absorbance numbers can then be directly tied to certain functional groups" (Klein, 2007). All of these concepts will be used and evaluated during this lab. Methods Part 1: Melting point First collect a melting point apparatus, a capillary test tube. Collect a small amount of the #666 unknown in the capillary test tube approximately enough to cover 2 cm of the capillary test tube. Then place the capillary test ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yes, the introduction and conclusion of a speech are very important, however, the body of the speech needs to be given adequate consideration during the preparation of a speech. Once the introduction is completed I believe the audience subconsciously demands that the body of the speech is well organized and informative. This is important to ensure that the audience stays engaged in the presentation. Although I believe I did a decent job in my introduction speech, I now know which areas I need to work on in the body to make the presentation more complete. It was so short that it probably should have been included in my second point. I do feel, however, if I had been afforded more time to speak, I would have balanced my points out more effectively. As I gain more experience in the public speaking arena, I believe I will be able to condense the main points effectively in the time I am allotted. We all want our listeners to stay interested in what we have to say; in formal public speaking, and everyday conversation. It seems far easier to keep the audience interested in everyday conversation because the setting is generally more informal. However, in a formal setting, connectives are vital to keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. I now realize that simply pausing between main points are not good connectives,in most cases. Pausing, in my opinion, gives the audience an opportunity to mentally drift away from the speech, depending on the length of the pause. Pausing may be acceptable if the speaker is using signposts, but when signposts are used, the audience is made aware of what's coming after the pause, which makes them more likely to keep listening. In my opinion, connectives are extremely important in certain situations where the audience is only attending out of necessity such as in a business meeting. In these situations, many members of audience aren't very interested to begin with. A speaker needs to use effective connectives or risk losing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Commonly referred to as myofascial trigger points in the medical profession, these locations on your body are a common cause of discomfort and pain. These areas commonly produce referred pain, meaning that pain from this area can be found in other muscle groups and joints away from the source of the pain itself. This is why myofascial discomfort in one's spine or shoulder often causes headaches and neck pain. What Causes This Pain? This intense pain can come from a variety of sources, including bad posture, excess weight, physical injury or stress, joint problems, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and even poor sleep. If you are suffering from joint pain or spinal pain, you may have visited a medical professional and been told that it was a result of a weak or injured joint, or even a bulging or misaligned disc. Types Of Nonsense Point Mutation Genetic Disorders of Nonsense Point Mutations Gene expression is regulated by the cell, and genetic mutations can cause permanent changes in the cell's genetic material. Specifically, one type of mutation that occurs in a cell's DNA is a nonsense point mutation. In this type of mutation, a chemical change in only one nitrogenous base results in a premature stop codon. This causes the translation to end early. In the given strand of DNA, the nitrogenous base Adenine was affected. Thymine was substituted in Adenine's place. Therefore, the amino acid chain was altered, causing a premature stop codon. The sequence no longer continued after the stop codon was in place due to the mutation. However, if no mutation occurred, the polypeptide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many infants with severe Hurler syndrome demonstrate no symptoms until later in life. A few symptoms of this disorder are as followed: claw hands, deafness, stunted growth, joint disease, progressive intellectual disability, and retardation (A.D.A.M, 2017). Moreover, symptoms of this disease can range from mild to severe. Foster (2017) demonstrates that patients with this disease have thick, coarse facial features and low nasal bridges. A series of examinations, such as an EKG and a spinal X–ray, can be executed to test for Hurler Syndrome early on. Though both disorders are incurable, there is a plethora of treatment options available. For example, Eteplirsen is an approved injection medication that helps treat individuals with a specific mutation of the gene that leads to DMD (Anirudh, 2017). However, the most commonly seen side effects of this treatment option are balance problems and vomiting.
