1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
Preliminary Task After
2. What have I learnt/ how have I
developed?
During my preliminary task I learnt the basic conventions of
magazines through my research. Such as my conventions of a
magazine I learnt what each element of a magazine was called,
the purpose and where they are located. As well as my LIIAR
analysis’ I learnt a lot behind the intentions of the magazine’s and
why conventions are used in certain ways to attract target
audiences or create a certain representation. I’ve also learnt
about circulation and readership. Because I did a lot more
research and preparation for my music magazine it is obvious
how much I have improved from my college magazine. For
example I could have had better use of the empty spaces on my
college magazine and used it for more features etc, and used it to
it’s full potential like I had done in my music magazine. I also
learnt how to use more tools on Photoshop throughout my
process of making my magazine. I also learnt more about how I
can make products such as magazines appeal more to my target
audience by conducting questionnaires, peer feedback, making
reader profiles as well as the study of demographics etc. I also
learnt how to use Microsoft Publisher in order to form a double
page spread. By using such tools as text wrap, creating columns,
removing image backgrounds etc.
3. What would change?
There are a lot of things that I would change on my college magazine. This is because
after making my music magazine I have learnt and progressed a lot, I now realise the
mistakes I made.
Here I have used a
simple font style which
appears boring, and
wouldn’t be used on a
front cover.
I could of used a frame
around the smaller images I
took so that it doesn’t look
out of place. I didn’t have to
use so many images either as
my features could of just
included text.
Here is an empty
place I could of moved
my images down and
included more text
features.
I should of placed the date
with the bar code towards
the bottom of the magazine
and actually include a price.
Here I included a
footer but I didn’t
place anything
within it so it
looks odd and out
of place.
Something could of being
added here so it wouldn’t
look so empty either
some features or the
main feature.
4. What skills and knowledge did you learn in order
to produce a music magazine?
In order to produce my magazine I had to
complete several tasks which helped me learn
more about composing music magazines,
preparing/planning my magazine and creating a
target audience. When producing my music
magazine I needed sound knowledge and the
skills to use Photoshop, knowing the basics I
was able to continue to use Photoshop whilst
learning and experimenting with new tools, so I
could continue to develop my magazine.
The knowledge again was mainly what the
conventions of a music magazine were. And
again the information I received from the peer
research.
