The author compares their school magazine cover and contents page to a music magazine they developed. They felt they made significant improvements in their work for the music magazine because they had more time to develop skills in the software, more time to plan each page, and could get feedback from an audience. Comparing the mastheads shows the school one looks unprofessional while the music one looks like a real media product. Photos in the music magazine also show better lighting, positioning, and quality. The author believes having more time and experience with the software for the music magazine allowed them to create a better product.
3. Compared to my school magazine front cover and contents page I have made massive improvement in my work, I know this because of the
music magazine I have developed. I feel that it is better because I had time to develop my skills in the software we were using for example
fireworks. I also felt I had more time to put into each page, this allowed more time to plan and improve on faults I made. This also allowed
me to make mistakes and ask my audience what they liked and disliked and fit the pages to there likes and needs.
Comparing the mastheads from one another shows a clear development, this is because the school one looks tacky and very professional
were as the music one looks like it could possibly be on an existing media product.
Even from the photography you can tell I’ve made progress, because in the music magazine I’ve considered light, setting, position of camera and
the quality of the picture etc. however in the school magazine I used a poor quality camera and didn’t really think about where I was going to set
the shoot. I also learnt to make the text fit nicely around the face where as in the school magazine I haven’t took into consideration that the
coverlines are over lapping the models face.
4. I feel that when I did my preliminary task that I didn’t really know how to use the tools, so it didn’t allow me to do the
best I could, this was because of the limit of time and the lack of knowledge. When we came to develop our music
magazines I felt more confident in how to use different softwares because I began using them for the school magazine.
With the music magazine I also explored other media products to give me more ideas I felt this taught me to be more
creative and try other ideas. This might have been why the school magazine was more poorer because I didn’t use that
time to research other products and make questionnaires to find out what people wanted to see on the front cover
where as I did when I was creating the music magazine.
Even with the contents pages you can see a clear difference in use of skills and how to make a products look realistic
and the use of colour. As you can identify there was a lot more time with the music magazine due to detail and the
match in colour scheme and the use of larger fonts and smaller fonts for emphasis, you can see the school magazine
lacks. This is because I learnt how to do all these new conventions correctly so they all suit each other.
