Question 7
1. When I look back at my preliminary task it’s very clear I
have developed more of an understanding of magazines.
For example, I now understand how much it takes to come
up with a professional looking magazine and how common
elements when used in the right way can impact in the sale
and how your audience navigate your magazine.
Question 7
2. From the start of this work I feel that I have managed my time well and
spread out the work that has needed to be done. Also from this project
I’ve added to even more skills within photo shopping images. An
example of this is on my front cover image where I have removed the
background, I’ve also done this on an image in my double page spread.
On my contents page I also used Photoshop to create a reggae styled
background and then place the guitar over the top of the background.
From doing my research I have learnt who and why my audience of my
magazine are the reformers and how that impacts the magazine and
how it is made as my audience are not mainstream meaning I can get
away with doing things differently. The last thing I have learnt is which
distributors/company would distribute my magazine and why it wouldn't
be distributed by a mainstream publisher say like Bauer.
Question 7
3. As said in the last slide I feel the skill I’ve improved on the most has to
be Photoshop. I now feel more confident when editing photos and
tweaking them in order to make them fit my chosen genre.

4. The first thing I remember when creating my school magazine was that I never seemed to link it or
even think about targeting it to a type of audience. This was because I didn’t understand how
important it was to target your magazine to a chosen audience. From creating my reggae music
magazine I now understand how this becomes a benefit as shown through the different design I came
up with and concepts within my magazine to target my audience of the reformers. When looking at
both the magazines side to side I also feel that my latest magazine looks more professional and in
keeping with it’s genre than ‘Sidmonthly’ which now to me doesn’t really look like school magazine
and also looks very amateur.
Also one of the main differences between the two is the fact that we only had like 2 weeks to create
the school magazine and then had 2 months in order to create multiple drafts and write-ups of my
reggae music magazine from this It allowed me to keep making the magazine better and also allowed
for audience feedback as well as comments from other class mates. This has helped create a much
better magazine as I have a understanding of my audience and who I’m targeting the magazine at. Plus
I got to look and analysis other reggae music magazine that are targeting the same that I need to be
targeting.
Then the last big difference is that the editing and photo shopping of images in my reggae magazine is
at a higher level compared to my school magazine where I hardly used Photoshop on any of the
images. When using Photoshop it defiantly gives your magazine a more professional look as your using
a industry standard program that is used by real media products
