"Lovemarks"
In the film, "The Persuaders", the documentary analyzes the advertising and marketing industry and
how marketers have developed new ways of integrating their message into the fabric of our
everyday lives. The film further explores how marketing and advertising shapes the way Americans
understand the world and themselves and how the techniques of the persuasion industries have
migrated to politics. In the following essay, I will describe interesting points about the marketing
industry and what this information has revealed about myself as well as describing brands I identify

In watching this video, I learned that I as a consumer am often moved by love–marks or brands that
go beyond the usual to satisfy a deeper need within myself or my imagination. For instance, over the
past few months I have become increasingly intrigued by Revlon's new global marketing campaign,
"Love Is On". I went further to research this brand and their strategy. The phrase "L–O–V–E–I–S–
O–N" is present in the brand name, Revlon, furthermore the brand has remixed a classic song called
"Addicted to Love" to go along with their commercial. Now repetition and popular influence has
been utilized in this advertisement. Aside from that, Revlon, has used this ad campaign to associate
the brand with a relatable emotion, "love". They go beyond the typical definition of love to describe
the progressing stages of innocence, flirting, and passion accompanied with quick and bright
images/motions reenacting these emotions. Revlon accomplishes all this while displaying their
products fluently (lipstick, mascara, etc.) in each "love" scene within the 1 minute commercial.
Revlon has utilized a popular song, repetition, brand associations, unique emotions, bright images,

The purpose of this analysis is to conduct a comparative analysis of two television commercials by
examining their techniques and the use of rhetorical devices to appeal to their target audience. In the
first video, "Olivia Wilde Chooses Love" by Revlon uses their product as something to give their
audience a boost of confidence. Produced in 2016, the commercial provides a scenario where love is
presented as an active choice that women take control. However, in the second video "Beauty on
Your Own Terms" by Dove uses a variety of women from different backgrounds, ethnicities, ages,

This happens to make their audience feel confident in challenging the idea that society has created
for women, not because of their gender but how they are. However, the credibility used in the
advertisement "Olivia Wilde Chooses Love" was not as effective compared to "Beauty on Your
Terms" since it only gave focus to one actress not multiple. For instance, it only gave their viewers
to feel confident with the use of their product, but not enough for them to feel confident in their
skin. However, both shared the same purpose of giving their audience, especially women, to
challenge themselves and overcome the obstacles they may face. Although Dove took in
consideration of fulfilling their purpose of defining the term of empowerment and gave different

actress Emma Stone with a mirror like background. Overall, the advertisement uses the actress and
the romance theme to their advantage on selling the product. On the left side of the advertisement
Stone is wearing a bright, bold, and beautiful red ultra high definition, or HD lipstick. One thing that
is very noticeable in the advertisement is Stone's lips, they are bigger more plump lips they are even

Girl, directed by Maxine Evans. While it would've been performed as beautifully in a larger venue,

girl.
Surrounding the catastrophic coal tip event at Aberfan in Wales, the play takes place eight months

week at the Aberfan hotel to talk and laugh, but on this rainy Tuesday night, the mothers meet a

seductive pose, staring directly at the viewer while simultaneously winking; this creates a feeling of
intimacy with the viewer. A white woman's hands are then carefully placed in his hair and his
mouth; she is playfully touching him while he gently bites her finger. The use of a white female and
Argentinian male conveys the idea that women find men of "color" more attractive and masculine.
The woman is hidden in the image, consumed by a black background. This gives us the freedom to
