Disadvantages Of Humanities
I appreciate Mr. Coles essay, but as someone who's went to college once and basically starting over due to the lack of finding a career or job in my
field per say. Personally I think going deeper into the humanities should be optional. Based on my brief tenure in the professional workforce, I didn't
need to know about The Ancient Mayan Civilization or have a need for calculus to be successful in my job. At the same time with everything going on
in the world today, I think the humanities may benefit some of the people who are freaking out behind the history of this country they live in. If

Since the beginning of the Humanities sequence, numerous themes have been expressed through various pieces of art and literature. A few of these
themes have been so prevalent that they have flourished throughout the entire sequence of humanities classes. One of the major themes in particular is
the idea of truth and where people have found truth in society. Some believe that truth comes from religion and higher powers, while others believe that

minds and after my research, I can say I am in favor that children learn in early ages humanities and art. In this paper, I will provide both examples
why kids should study them and why not. I will explain how do humanities and art help them to develop their intelligence and how could not be so
beneficially for them as well. Even though some people say that art classes are a drain on the economy and art educations are considered a distraction

Humanities is something I've always known has changed greatly with time, but not to the point that I do now. It's fascinating that this class started
talking about the ancient world and ended at the twenty–first century. With studying the humanities throughout history, I truly get a feeling of the past

Within those 13 summers, six of them I spent attending Japanese public school. Going to a school in Japan was very tough. I would have regular
classes, get homework and speak Japanese the entire time. Though it was tough, it was a lot of fun. I made so many friends, I ate great food, and
best of all I was speaking only Japanese the entire time. Overall it was such a great experience being able to go to two different schools in two
completely different countries.

One time I was very excited about learning was a project that I did in math class called After Collage. In this project I were given a scenario where I

electricity bills, food, laundry etc. Though this project was fiction it made me realize what the real world was like, and I could not just spend all of my
money on things that I liked.

Between Engineering and the Humanities." Ottino and Morson discuss the importance of the fields of engineering and the humanities. The purpose of
the essay is to show how engineering and the humanities are linked together and are needed simultaneously. Even though, Morson and Ottino adopt a
weak informal tone in the middle of their argument; the authors end their argument strong by successfully using ethos and logos to appeal to their
audience, college and university faculty and administrators.
Ottino and Morson begin with an introduction of the topic of engineering and humanities. The authors use a jovial tone to portray the current

Over the course of this semester each paper that was written helped to introduce me and my fellow classmates to different formatting, and genres of
writing. A lot of knowledge was gained from writing these papers and I was able to compare and contrast the disciplinary writings and notice what
makes each of them stand out. Reflecting back on these individual papers helps to express what I have learned. The first paper that was written was the
humanities essay. The humanities essay helped to provide an understanding of the artistic analysis of the artwork that we chose to write about.
When the assignment was first assigned I thought it was going to be difficult, seeing that the humanities field is all about expressing your opinion
and deconstructing the text for what it says and not how it does so. As I begun to work on the project I found it to be less challenging. Being able
to look at a piece of art and deconstruct it in an attempt to identify the artist's idea, was exciting. I was able to see and realize things about the
painting that I never would have noticed if it had not been for this paper. In my painting called "Beulah's Baby" I never would have noticed how the

There seems to be a stigma present in our society, that social sciences and humanities are not as hard and require less work than science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics, STEM, majors. In addition, women are still struggling to gain traction in STEM fields, and face gender bias quite
frequently, as seen in the fact that women are only paid 77 cents for every dollar made by a man. We hypothesized that STEM majors would be rated
as more academically competent than sociology majors. We also hypothesized that male students would be rated as more academically competent than
female students. Finally, our combined hypothesis was that males would receive higher ratings of academic competency, overall, regardless of major.
There was a total of 263 participants in this survey, 173 of them being female. Participants read paragraphs about either a sociology major named James
or Jane, or an engineering major named James or Jane, and then were asked to rate how much they agreed with statements about the student, such as if
the student was naturally smart. Participants were also asked how many hours they expected the student to spend studying a week. We found that the
engineering students were rated higher for being naturally smart than the sociology students. Additionally, we found that the engineering students were
expected to study more hours than the sociology students, and that a female undergraduate was expected to study more hours than a male

Throughout my time in the humanities sequence, I have constantly been surprised by the astounding quantity of philosophical questions, topics,
issues, and themes that we learned. It seemed that with each new text we read, there was either a completely new subject matter for us to discuss or
a different perspective for us to contemplate. After reading all of the course texts and being exposed to all of their ideologies, I now find it very
difficult to try and focus on only a select few. All of these texts, from theBhagavad Gita to Ethics for the New Millennium, were all highly influential
to me in some way and seem equally as important from a philosophical standpoint, but I must admit that I appreciated some of the subjects more so
than others from a personal point of view. For example, some of my most memorable experiences from the humanities sequence arose from our class
discussions of The Trial and Death of Socrates, a text we read all the way back in the first half of the Honors 201 semester. In class, we worked to
