The Quality Of A Balance Scorecard
A balance scorecard is an instrument managers use to gauge performance based on significant
performance measures chosen by the manager. Each performance measure can be tailored to meet
the specific needs of any organization. According to Cardinaels and Veen–Dirks, firms either have a
list of measures or groups of measures separated into categories to evaluate performance. There are
four common categories that are used to group and describe the different performance measures.
The four categories are financial, customer, internal business, and learning and growth (Cardinaels
& M.G. van Veen–Dirks, 2010). Cardinaels and Veen–Dirks said the financial category concentrates
on financial data like sales margin percentages and sales growth per store. The customer perspective
concentrates on repetitive sales and customer satisfaction. Internal business concentrates on returns
to suppliers and the amount of orders completed. Learning and growth concentrates on the
development of employees how happy employees are with their job. Customer, internal business,
and learning and growth measures are considered to be non–financial measures (Cardinaels & M.G.
van Veen–Dirks, 2010). According to Cardinaels and Veen–Dirks, placing performance measures
into categories help the reader make decisions by being able to focus on individual areas rather than
each individual measure to make an overall decision on the performance of the organization as a
whole. One good thing about an unformatted score

Small And Medium Sized Enterprises
I. Literature Review 1. Introduction Big Data has seen exponential growth in recent years due to the
large volumes of social–networking data that is now being produced. While it may be easier for
large enterprises to adopt the use of Big Data it is unclear if many small and medium sized
enterprises are firstly aware of Big Data and its uses and secondly whether it will actually be
beneficial to the business. The project will look at the use, or lack thereof, of Big Data in SMEs and
provide a comparison when looking at larger enterprises. 2. An analysis of Big Data i. The Three Vs
So what exactly is Big Data? This can be a point of contention amongst even those who work with
big data all the time so the description that follows is only one of many. Big Data is best
characterised by 3Vs: volume, variety and velocity. Volume refers to the extreme amounts of data,
variety to the varying types of said data and velocity to the speed at which the data must be
processed. Big Data does not actually refer to a specific quantity of data as many might assume by
looking at the term but it is often used when speaking about massive volumes of data in the range of
Exabyte's (Rouse, 2014), most of which cannot be integrated easily. ii. The additional Vs There can
also be a fourth V (Vossen, 2014) which adds veracity to volume, variety and velocity to give 4V's.
Veracity can be viewed to be the messiness of the data (thinking of things such as Tweets with hash
tags, abbreviations, typos, and

Disruptive Innovation: a New Era of Crowdsourced Data...
Abstract: The existing business paradigm of data analytics is set for a transformation. Today,
companies are experimenting to replicate the "Outsourced data analytics" model to "Crowdsourced
data analytics". Companies like Kaggle, Crowdanalytix and others are hitting the headlines of top
analytics blogs across the globe. The reason is that the new business model promises a drastic
decrease in the cost of analytics for companies long with the flexibility to get the problem solved
anytime with much less effort. In short, it's not just crowdsourcing that is the novelty of the concept,
but the manner in which it is put to use that steals the show. Abstract: The existing business

SMEs generally abstain from such lavish expenditures and hence they always had to rely on their
own intuitive decision making. They still don't have any robust mechanism to verify their
assumptions because tools like market research and data analytics is not for them, they believe. Not
anymore! Companies like Kaggle and Crowdanalytix provides them with such non–expensive and
reliable platform for analytics that SMEs can now espouse structured decision making in free will.
II. Analytics market: Now an open field The issue that small analytics consultants face today is that
they are overshadowed by large consulting organizations. Small consultants include both individual
consultants and small boutique consultants. These small consultants have to fight a stiff battle for
every single project. Even if they win one, their margins are eaten up by their overboard sales efforts
to grab one assignment. Hence, smaller consultants remain low on cash. The new crowdsouring
model brings them a sigh of relief. Today, they don't have to bid for projects; they are up on the web.
The consultant wins money not because of the size of his organization but solely on his competency.
Second way these consultants earn bucks is by joining network of lead analysts as mentioned
previously in the article. Hence, the new business model has opened the field and for the first time

Analysis Of Marriot International And Marketing Management
According to Davenport (2006), an analytics competitor has the capabilities of gaining insight based
on a consumer's consumption to better make business decisions while optimizing the business
processes. Many top organizations such as Amazon, Capital One and even the Boston Red Sox have
implemented programs that allow for their company to better determine the products and prices of
products that appeal to consumers. These programs also provide companies with the power to
determine how to market, based upon the consumer's fluctuating income and its influence over the
rising and falling of demand and supply chains. While this process of collecting and processing data
may be beneficial to the company, the data gathered should be collected in an ethical manner.
(Davenport, 2006, p.99–100) As noted earlier, there are many organizations who have mastered the
skill set of becoming an analytics competitor. Some companies have implemented the approach
taken by Marriot International. Marriot International has not only mastered the revenue
management, it has become one of the top analytics competitors because of its ability to efficiently
use its Total Hotel Optimization program. The program allows for Marriot International to expand
their quantitative expertise far beyond establishing room prices to allow for the program to be used
in areas such as catering and conference facilities. Marriot International has also made these tools

Professional Objectives Program
Discuss your professional objectives both short and long term. What has motivated you to apply to
this program? My organization Penske Truck Leasing has been experiencing a sharp decline in the
revenue generated from its full service leasing. Results of initial sales analysis concluded that the
inflow of the new customers for full service leasing has been growing steadily; thus to increase
revenue, the focus needs to be on the renewals for the existing customers. The company realizes that
a lack of validated customer loyalty drivers prevents effective focus on customer retention and thus
directly affects profitability. Challenges with data availability and business metrics have made
attempts to measure and diagnose our service delivery and customer experience, both, difficult and
inconclusive. In order to address this challenge, the organization has launched an initiative to build a
customer analytics system that can achieve a single view of customer experience and make
decisions about how best to acquire and retain customers, recognize high–value customers and
proactively interact with them. I have been identified as the lead architect for the BI and analytics
team that is going to implement this project. I am also privileged to be associated with an initiative
that is directed towards human resource analytics that analyzes the performance and profitability

discovery has become the standard, while data prep has remained in the realm of IT and data
experts. According to Paige Schaefer, statistics reflect that self–service will extend to data prep in
2017. Again, common data–prep tasks like JSON and HTML imports, data parsing, and data
wrangling will no longer be delegated to data specialists. With new innovations in this transforming
space, it is expected that everyone will be able to tackle these tasks as part of their analytics flow.
Analytics are everywhere, thanks to embedded BI It is said that analytics works best when it's a
natural part of people's workflow. In 2017, analytics will be embedded into applications people use
every day, be it Salesforce or internal portals. This seamless integration will drive visibility and

Essay on Assessing the View that Religious Language is...
Assessing the View that Religious Language is Meaningless
In recent times one of the most compelling and interesting arguments against God and religion has
come from linguistic philosophy. In very basic terms the argument points out the fact that religion
must necessarily use language in order to express abstract ideas such as God, love and so on, and in
doing so commits a fallacy because as soon as such ideas are put into words they become
meaningless. However, this is a rather large generalisation; the specific arguments go into a lot more
detail and most vary in some way from this basic idea. Before we look at these arguments, though, I
feel it is necessary to emphasise just how important an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethics, aesthetics and most importantly religious statements are all rendered void as they cannot be
depicted, for example "Stealing is wrong" cannot be mentally depicted in the way that "I stole your
pencil" can. This idea attracted several philosophers, including Moritz Schlick and Rudolf Carnap,
who were working together in Vienna in the early part of the last century, and who expanded
Wittgenstein's work. Their work involved looking at language to see what type of statements were
meaningful or not, and they based their ideas on similar work in epistemology. There is a very
powerful argument in this branch of philosophy that knowledge can only be gained through
empirical experience. The logical positivists applied this idea to language, and came up with the
verification principle. This idea, also put forward by A. J. Ayer, the main British exponent of logical
positivism, is basically that only two types of statement are meaningful. The first is analytic
statements (a priori), which are logical statements that justify themselves, for example "1 + 1 = 2" or
"all bachelors are men." This type of statement is true by definition, and does not

Organizations today face a lot of competition in the market and they try every day to find new ways
to stay ahead in the race. To achieve what these organizations desire, they require data and some
efficient analytical applications to analyse this data. Analysing the data and making certain decisions
towards the growth of the organization, to remain ahead of the growing competition, forms the crux
of competing on analytics. Most companies today make use of such analytical applications to make
decisions that are best suited for them. Flipkart is one such company. Flipkart an e–commerce

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term used to describe the growing number of smart and connected
products. It consists of physical things such as sensors which have the ability to collect and share
data. Predictions suggest that over 30 billion smart and connected devices will be in use in the year
2020.
What are the avenues broadly where IoT could transform the retail sphere?
– Inventory: Technology can undoubtedly revolutionize the retail backdrop. There are technologies
that can save any retailers from theft, cheating and evade inventory dysfunction.

For example, by analyzing video feeds Marketers can use visualizations to understand the impact of
different promotional displays or promotional signage and get a sense of how that's affecting
customer behavior in the store.
Applications of IoT is countless when devices, processes and people are integrated to form a
complete picture. Shoppers receive offers on their smartphones after communicating with beacons (a
low–cost piece of hardware used to transmit messages or prompt to a smartphone or tablet), while
manufacturers and distributors receive alarms at dock doors when outgoing shipments are incorrect,
based on RFID readings.
Let us take a look at some of the industry use cases of application of IoT in retail:
Disney has RFID–enabled MagicBand wristbands that provide theme park access, entry access for
guest hotel rooms, and cash and card–free payment food and merchandise. All the activity in the
park is also 'tracked data' that helps build a better picture of how guests use Disney services.
Online retailing giant Amazon is once again disrupting bricks and mortar retailing with the Dash

laundry detergent. All that a consumer needs to do when the current supply is running low is to tap
the button stuck to the washing machine which generates an order, transaction and delivery of a
fresh supply of detergent.

Strawson And Jean Donnellan Summary
Donnellan, in "Reference and Definite Description," outlines two uses of definite descriptions. He
argues that definite descriptions can either have an attributive or a referential use. While theories
outlined by Strawson and Russell account for a single use, Donnellan advocates for both. To explain
both the attributive and referential uses, I will review two examples. The first example, put forth by
Donnellan, is for the statement "Smith's murderer is insane." There are two ways of interpreting this
statement, based on whether the definite description attributes or refers. In one situation, the
audience does not know who murdered Smith. If this is the case, then the speaker does not pick
someone out. Instead, the speaker's statement uses the definite description attributively. Here, the
definite description itself is what is most significant. Meanwhile, if someone, whom we will call
Jones, has been accused of the murder, the use changes. When the speaker now makes the statement,
the audience picks out Jones as the referent. The definite description has a referential use. It acts as a
tool for picking out a particular one or thing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, when we say, "Smith's murderer is insane," the implication is not true. The consequences
of this differ based on which use of description the speaker is employing. Under an attributive
usage, there would be no person who we can truly attribute insanity to. Meanwhile, with a
referential usage, the speaker could still successfully refer to Jones. However, the description,
"insane murderer" would no longer fit Jones. The act of picking out is the key function for a
referential use of a description. Even if the description is wrong, reference is still

The Pillars Of Analytics Scale
to 4 on the Pillars of Analytics scale (Davenport & Harris 36), Hero has some room for
improvement based on acceptance by the entire resource group. At this point, 20% of the Hero team
can dynamically use the analytics we currently offer. For example, 2015 was the first year that we,
as an operations and sales team, had a dynamic forecasting plan. We took the top customers making
up 80% of our annual revenue and projected out their volume by SKU, by month and kept a rolling
12 months of inventory planning based on each customer's growth objectives. Putting this plan
together resulted in an out of stock liability improvement of 15% and actual sales were within 1% of
budget projections. This project, a huge jump in our planning procedures, was completely facilitated
by three people in our organization that employs over fifty people. The issues above directly tie in to
the second pillar of Enterprise Wide Analytics. Although all departments have access to dynamic
analytical systems, most have zero interest in utilizing it. There have been several missed
opportunities for growth on analytical competition from the Operations side of the business.
However, with the success of the 2015 and 2016 forecasting models, the senior managers are
working to align efforts and optimize standard operating procedures that rely heavily on analytical
tools. This proven performance is slowly raising the bar for Senior Management commitment.

Ambiguity In The Theory Of The Description Theory
In this essay I argue that the understanding of proper names seems to go beyond definite
descriptions. Therefore the Description Theory is not an adequate theory of proper name. I first
provide a brief explanation of the Description Theory, and its sub–theory, the Name Claim, followed
by a brief overview of the main arguments for the Description Theory. I then provide a more
detailed explanation of one direct argument: That it captures the intuitive logic of claims involving
proper names. I then explain the problem of 'Which description?', that there is 'no single determinate

However, the Description Theory leaves us with ambiguity in the description of a proper name

Business analytics concentrates on growing new bits of knowledge and comprehension of business

This week's paper we were to research and identify three prevailing philosophical perspectives at
work during the 20th Century. To begin I will research the history of a few new tendencies in
contemporary philosophy. Then I will discuss the Tom Rockmore interpretation of such tendencies.
Tom Rockmore is Professor of Philosophy and a McAnulty College Distinguished Professor, Dr.
Rockmore's current research interests encompass all of modern philosophy, with special emphasis
on selected problems as well as figures in German idealism (Kant, Fichte, Hegel, Marx) and recent
continental philosophy (Heidegger, Habermas, Lukacs). He is continuing to explore the

The most practical of analytical philosophy also included Moore, and Carnape. The American (neo)
pragmatism philosophy is a philosophical movement that was given systematic terms by Charles
Sanders Peirce and William James and later taken up and revamped by John Dewey. Pragmatists
stress the practical purpose of knowledge as a way for acclimatizing to reality and controlling it.
Pragmatism concur with empiricism in its emphasis on the importance of experience over a priori
reasoning. However the truth had customarily been discussed in terms of communication with
reality or in terms of coherence pragmatism embraces that truth is to be sought in the process of
verification. Pragmatists translates ideas as means and plans of action rather than as images of
reality; more specifically, they are recommendations and anticipations of possible conduct,
hypotheses or forecasts of what will result from a given action, or ways of organizing
behavior(Answer,2010)
Between the continental and the analytic philosophy, being the two most significant tendencies,
barely any debate was taking place; this was due to the lack of knowledge, contempt, and mutual
lack of attention. In spite of this, the situation is changing slowly: especially American philosophers
like Taylor, Nagel, Rorty and others converse subjects in which until recently only

A Plea for a Peircean Turn in Analytic Philosophy Essay
A Plea for a Peircean Turn in Analytic Philosophy
ABSTRACT: Criticisms of analytic philosophy have increased in intensity in the last decade,
denouncing specifically its closing in on itself, which results in barrenness and ignorance of real
human problems. The thought of C. S. Peirce is proposed as a fruitful way of renewing the analytic
tradition and obviating these criticisms. While this paper is largely a reflection on Hilary Putnam's
study of the historical development of analytic philosophy, not only can some of its main roots be
traced back to Peirce, but also the recent resurgence of pragmatism can be regarded as a pragmatist
renovation of the analytic tradition. Further, Peirce's thought offers suggestions for tackling some ...

On the one hand, not only can some of the main roots of analytic philosophy be traced back to
Peirce, but the recent resurgence of pragmatism (Bernstein, 1992) can also be regarded as a
pragmatist renovation of analytic philosophy. On the other hand, Peirce's thought offers suggestions
for tackling some of the most stubborn problems in contemporary philosophy, and in particular he
may help us to shoulder once again the philosophical responsibility which has been largely
abdicated by much of 20th century philosophy (Debrock, 1992: 1).
In order to show this, my paper is divided in four sections: 1) A brief description of the decline of
analytic philosophy; 2) the return of the history of philosophy as a key to its recovery; 3) Charles S.
Peirce's relevance, and finally, 4) Peirce and analytic philosophy.
1. The decline of analytic philosophy
When Wolfgang Spohn became the managing editor of the new Erkenntnis he referred to its first
eight volumes as "a historically singular document, signaling a new era in philosophy with great
enthusiasm and optimism" (Spohn, 1990:1). But sixty years after the founding of Erkenntnis it is
really difficult to be so enthusiastic about analytic philosophy when one notices the decline of
logical empiricism, the bewildering specialization within philosophical inquiry, and contemporary
disorientation and eclecticism in philosophy. These

I don't think that's a coincidence. What needs to be done before a company can begin to compete on
analytics? DAVENPORT: There are two major prerequisites. One is human, and the other is
technical. The human prerequisite is that you need to have leaders who appreciate and understand
what it means to compete on analytics, and want to do it. Second, having high‐quality, integrated,
clean data is something of a prerequisite. One of the reasons that companies are interested in this
right now is because they finally have access to all this data from ERP systems, Web reports, point‐
of‐sale systems and so on. Today the tools that SAS and others provide for integrating and cleaning
data are better than ever before. From there, what are the stages of competing on analytics?
DAVENPORT: I call stage one "analytically impaired," which means some fatal flaw is keeping the
company from doing much with analytics at all. Either the executives just don't care or they have
bad transaction data or they have lots and lots of data silos around the organization ‐ something
major keeping them from doing this at all. Stage two is what we used to think of as a best practice in
business intelligence, which is a lot of little pockets of analytical activity around the organization ‐
not connected, no vision of what you could do with it at all. I sometimes call this the Aleutian Island
strategy: There are a lot

Analytic Functionalism As A Philosophy Of The Mind
Michael Lock
Professor Davis

Analytic Functionalism as a Philosophy of the Mind
In an attempt to bridge the gaps between the philosophy of behaviorism and the identity theory, I
have determined that functionalism presents us with the best solution. Although there are several
concerns to the methodic explanation of mental states, I believe that analytic functionalism is a
credible model that describes the mind. Analytic functionalism establishes an ontological method
that provides more acceptable ways to describe and characterize the mind. I will contend my point
by first explaining the evolution into functionalism, specifically analytic functionalism. I will then
explain one of the most prominent objections, the "Chinese Room" argument by John Searle.
Beyond this argument, I will offer my rebuttals for these assertions and stipulate reasoning for
analytical functionalism's rational reliability as a suitable philosophy of the mind.
With the decline of behaviorism, the identity theory, or type physicalism, gained popularity within
the philosophic community. J.J.C. Smart, also aiming to work reductively to shrink mental states to
an uncomplicated classification, introduced the stance that identity theorists began to agree with.
This was the theory that physical brain states could be simply equated with mental states. For
example, the mental state of pain could be associated with the firing of the localized c–fibers region
of the brain. What this

Lighthouse 's Distinctive Capabilities Are Trustworthiness...
Lighthouse's distinctive capabilities are trustworthiness and service. Our advisors love to educate
their clients, they do not pressure anyone into something that is not a good fit, and there is great
delivery on promises once a relationship is formed. Because of this, there is never a lack of referrals.
Lighthouse is a small business, there are not multiple departments. One benefit of a small business is
that the advisors make key decisions as a group. For example, in January we left our former broker
dealer and moved to LPL Financial, LLC. Everyone cooperated with the decision and began the
substantial task of repapering all accounts. The CEO of Lighthouse is also the principal advisor of
the firm. He values the use of some analytics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stage four organizations have to smooth over any remaining barriers to becoming an analytical
competitor. For instance, it could be a matter of changing the culture, ensuring decisions from upper
management are being followed through on lower levels. In order to transition to the next stage, the
company needs to strategize and focus on one or two traits that lead to an advantage. Stage five
organizations have all the components necessary to be considered an analytical competitor. The
company is exploring new metrics, examining their processes and looking for ways to improve. The
company has the data, technologies, and staff to remain competitive and profitable. In order for
Lighthouse to move through the final two stages there would need to be significant resources
devoted to increasing data available, purchasing software, and implementing ongoing analytics
projects and future planning.
How does your company create competitive advantage with analytics? Analytics is using data,
performing analyses and adjusting business processes and goals with that information (Davenport
and Harris, 2007). Unfortunately, Lighthouse is not creating a competitive advantage with analytics
at this time. The data is not available and the emphasis on analytics is not present.
How does your company compete internally on analytics? Lighthouse is not competently competing
internally on analytics. There are no shareholders, thus the only reporting that is done is

E Commerce And The Global Economy
This is the age of the Internet and uses for this technology are expanding everyday. Some of the
major newer uses include social networking, public broadcasting, global commerce, etc. E–

are using enterprises software (SAP, Oracle, etc.) to manage their business and data mining to
become more strategic in order to increase the profits of their companies. Amazon.com is using
sophisticated analytics applications. Amazon pioneered business analytics to become the leader of

Google Analytics has many tools under the categories of data collection and management, data
consolidation and data analysis that can help even small companies to reach the right audiences
efficiently by understanding who their customers are and how best to reach them. For instance, the
Collection and Configuration APIs help you collect data and manage your account in custom,
scalable ways. The Data Import functionality allows an enterprise to join the data from their CRM
(Customer Relationship Management, a CRM system allows businesses to manage business
relationships as well as the data and information associated with them), content management, and
other systems with the data in their Google Analytics account for faster, more sophisticated insights.
In this way, a company can understand more about the background of their customers, as well as
their preferences and behaviors. There is an e–purchasing platform company called Jet.com. Jet is a
members' only shopping club offering savings on most of the categories of products that Amazon
has. Compared to Amazon.com and Walmart.com, it is a small company. However, as a startup
company they have a unique model that could prove very competitive with larger retail enterprises.
Many of their products are at least 10% cheaper than Amazon Prime. Jet has a special program that

Russell On Denoting
"On Denoting" and Definite Descriptions: Russell's Puzzle Solutions In his work, "On Denoting",
Bertrand Russell proposes a theory of denoting and descriptions, which he summarizes as follows:
Everything, nothing, and something, are not assumed to have any meaning in isolation, but a
meaning is assigned to every proposition in which they occur. This is the principle of the theory of
denoting I wish to advocate: that denoting phrases never have any meaning in themselves, but that
every proposition in whose verbal expression they occur has a meaning. (480) Russell contends that
the "difficulties concerning denoting are [...] all the result of a wrong analysis of propositions whose
verbal expressions contain denoting phrases" (480). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In considering this puzzle, Russell first introduces the principle of the indiscernibility of identicals
(hereafter the indiscernibility principle), which states that "[i]f a is identical to b, whatever is true of
the one is true of the other, and either may be substituted for the other in any proposition without
altering the truth or falsehood of that proposition" (485). That is, two identical entities can be used
interchangeably in any statement without altering the truth–value of the statement in question.
Russell then sets forth the proposition 'George VI wished to know whether Scott was the author of
Waverly ' and concludes that, since Scott was in fact the author of Waverly, one can replace 'the
author of Waverly ' with 'Scott ' and "thereby prove that George VI wished to know whether Scott
was Scott" (485). Under the indiscernibility principle, both propositions are true since the terms 'the
author of Waverly ' and 'Scott ' are identical and thus wholly substitutable for one another. However,
while Russell finds the first proposition to be true ( 'George VI wished to know whether Scott was
the author of Waverly '), Russell concludes that the second proposition, 'George VI wished to know
whether Scott was Scott ', is false due to the fact that "an interest in the law of identity can hardly be
attributed" to George VI (485). Herein lies the Substitutivity Puzzle. The

In October of 2015, ETS began an effort to extrapolate more meaning from the data. The need for
advanced analytics, and proactive solutions to problems became a central focus for the organization.
Over 150,000 tickets were analyzed for textual similarities. Alerts that automatically generate tickets
were a key finding, since each type of alert had similar ticket descriptions. Tickets were then
categorized and grouped by the type of alert the ticket was representative of. As of 2016, ETS has
successfully categorized over 200,000 incidents into over 80 distinct categories. ETS uses these
categories to trend out tickets over time, and see what common issues impact applications, servers,
network devices, and databases. For example, in January of 2016, it was identified that there was a
sudden increase in alerts for low disk space on the C drives of servers running the Windows 2008
operating system. We compiled the data into a report, which was then presented to the leading
manager of the Windows Server Support team, who then had their team investigate the issue. It was
then decided to increase the amount of C drive space on the impacted servers. Their process was
also updated to increase the amount of memory allocated to the C drive on new server builds. The

Bertrand Russell on Analytical Philsophy Essay example
"The point of philosophy is to start with something so simple as not to seem worth stating, and to
end with something so paradoxical that no one will believe it"
– Bertrand Russell, The Philosophy of Logical Atomism.
Bertrand Russell was born in 1872 in Wales, England as a member of a famous British family. He
received a degree from Trinity Cambridge College with honors in Mathematics and Moral Sciences.
His most famous works included the subjects of logic and philosophy, which were deeply rooted in
his mathematics background. In fact, Russell is probably the most highly regarded and most read
English–speaking philosopher of our time. Russell was not merely an intellectual, but also a political

The Analysis of the Mind written in 1921 show the connections between Russell's views on the
nature of the mind and how matter is altered in relation to it. Russell's key themes seem to be that of
physical vs. psychological. In fact, Russell expands on the ideas that there is in fact no difference
between the two and the only key difference is the perception given by the person trying to
distinguish between the two. Russell sees the difference between physics and psychology only in the
laws that bind them, or so he states in the opening while it seems this theory will be altered
throughout his books.
Consciousness is logically fundamental. Without it, how can there be anything observed or even
thought about? We need consciousness to experience anything, including but not limited to, "
sensations and images, memories, beliefs, and desires" . Consciousness is, in essence, the most
important aspect of the mental state, but Russell does not agree, and says so in the following
passage; " `Sensation, in the strict sense of the term, demands the existence of consciousness.' This
statement, at first sight, is one to which we feel inclined to assent, but I believe we are mistaken if
we do so." Russell actually holds to the idea that while consciousness is important, it is not
necessary. Russell states that he believes we are not always aware of things that happen, and
therefore consciousness is

Business analytics is helping businesses decide where to invest, increase profit and make the most
out of their company based on data that is collected and analyzed. As described in the article, The
New World of Business Analytics, "business analytics can be defined as the broad use of data and
quantitative analysis for decision–making within organizations" (4). The use of this type of research
is developing new insights and understanding of the performance of a business. Through the
increase in data analysis, companies are able to make decisions based on the information that they
have received and studied. Observing analytics can be thought of as, "thinking differently, asking
questions, and never being satisfied with doing things the way they have always been done."
(Analytics, Not Statistics, Driving NHL Evolution) As a field that is requiring more researchers,
business analytics is becoming a popular field of study at many universities because of the increased
need of employees by companies because of the success rate of business analytics techniques.
Analytics is observing statistics and finding the meaning behind those statistics. Companies and
students in the business field know the "increased importance of quantitative analysis of data for
understanding, prediction and optimization." ("The New World of Business Analytics", 2) The

Empiricism, Positivism, And Positivism Essay
The Science is the idea that we need to understand and distinguish it from other kinds of
investigation in the world. We also refer it as "empiricism", the scientific way we gain our
knowledge from experience. Empiricism is also a view that all kinds of knowledge come from, not
just scientific knowledge. Scientific thinking and investigation have the same basic pattern as
everyday thinking and investigation. (Godfrey–Smith, 9) Again, we call it "empiricism" in terms of
philosophical way, but in earliest form, the "empiricism" was referred as "logical positivism".
Logical Positivism is a systematic reduction of all human knowledge to logical and scientific
foundations. Thus, a statement is meaningful if it is either purely formal (essentially, mathematics
and logic) or capable of empirical verification (Mastin,12) One of the most important American
philosophers, W.V.O. Quine, creates the two dogmas of empiricism and logical positivism. The two
dogmas that Quine attacked were the distinction between analytic and synthetic statements and the
verification dogma of radical reductionism (Mattey,8) Quine discusses against both the dogmas,
with two consequences: A blurring of the distinction between natural science and metaphysics and a
turn toward pragmatism (Mattey,1) Although he made arguments on the dogmas of empiricism and
logical positivism, Quine criticized on empiricism that the analytic and synthetic statements have
definitions that are mere reports of the synonymy of

to achieve its goals. In this competitive world, many of the former industry's strategic alternatives
are no longer viable or likely to be successful. Today, there are few regulated monopolies, or
companies with unique geographical access. Proprietary technologies are rapidly copied by
competitors, and breakthrough innovation in either products or services is rare. Most of the
competitive strategies organizations are employing today involve optimization of key business
processes. Instead of serving all customers, they want to serve optimal customers– those with the
highest level of profitability and lifetime value. Instead of receiving goods and services whenever
they happen to arrive, they attempt to optimize supply chains to minimize disruptions and in–
process inventory. Instead of looking backward at their business performance and making ex post
facto adjustments, they seek to understand how optimum nonfinancial performance drives optimum
financial performance, and to make accurate forecasts of future performance so they can react in
advance of situations. Instead of throwing money at business problems, they seek to optimize their
use of capital. But strategies involving optimization require something different than those based on
taking business as it comes. The cost–effective and

Analytic Philosophy : Modality And The Iron Triangle
Modality and the Iron Triangle
Analytic philosophy had major influences on theories of meaning and the discussion of language. In
this paper, I will discuss some of the most significant people in this period and analyze the success
or lack of success for each theory in the period of analytic philosophy. The names of discussion are
Bertrand Russell, Alfred Ayer, and Saul Kripke. While other influencers of analytic philosophy
certainly exist, I will focus on these authors. Each writer was a founder of a movement of thought or
a beginning step to change in analytic philosophy, so their theories have major consequences on the
understanding on language and meaning. In particular, Russell was a major voice in the circles of
descriptivism, Ayer was a logical empiricist, and Kripke focused on modality and possibility. Rather
than describe each of these authors' views on their respective movements, I will focus on the
consequences of their views on a particular model in the philosophical discussion of meaning: the
iron triangle. This model is a description of meaning with three points based on knowledge, the
method of learning that knowledge, and the possibility of that knowledge. In this paper, I will
describe each philosopher's ideas on the iron triangle, Ayer's specific project on the model, and
Kripke's subsequent challenges to Ayer.
Firstly, Bertrand Russell's approach to meaning is descriptivist, and this theory is integral to
Russell's understanding of the iron triangle. This

advantage in their market sector. Consequently, it is imperative to successfully extract data from all
relevant data sources that can provide answers to questions that companies set out to answer with

Moreover, it is critical to use the correct analytical tools and understand the drawbacks of each to
provide the accurate results. In the article, the authors demonstrated how a combination of tools
could be used to extract, transform, and analyze data using social semantic web techniques and big
data analytics such as social web mining, social and conceptual network analytics (SNA), speech
recognition and mission vision, natural language processing (NLP), sentiment analysis,

NLP were less effective as there was a limited database for the Croatian language. Thus, the authors
had to use a combination of tools to overcome the shortcomings of the NLT to create a true picture

trouble understanding accents. Thus, words spoken in outlier accents are not processed correctly and
could produce a skewed analysis based on inaccurate speech recognition patterns.

there are poor teams, then there 's 50 feet of crap, and then there 's us. It 's an unfair game. And now
we 've been gutted. We 're like organ donors for the rich. Boston 's taken our kidneys, Yankees have

Using Analytics More And More
The company I am with is beginning to use analytics more and more. We are on step 1 of the five
step process, so we still have a lot to learn and set goals on. We have just started using them so that
we can compete with the "top dogs" of the bank data processors. I believe that if we didn't use
analytics one of the big competitors would come in and try to buy out the company. We are looking
into ways to help use analytics so that we can strengthen our position in the service and show that
we can handle any size community bank. We have created a Business Intelligence department to
look into ways that we can improve products, forecast what a bank may buy when signing a
contract, and to see how to pitch our regulatory compliance products to other companies to help
them with their compliance. We are competing pretty well with the top 3 processors. We have been
told that when they hear we are negotiating to sign the same customer as them, they get worried.
They know we have a rock solid pitch and use analytics to back up our numbers along with
testimonials from other customers how our products have help them compete with the non–
community banks, retain customers, and bring in the younger generation with the use of technology.
Without analytics, I feel that we would not be able to offer the banks what they need and sell our
other products to help them maintain the needed guidelines that keep changing.

Proprietary technologies can be owned, actively and effectively, at times by a single company. For
instance, a pharmaceutical holding a patent on a particular compound that is the basis for a drug is
an example of proprietary technologies. Infrastructural technology on the other hand provides more
value when shared rather than used by a single organization. A company having all the rights to

Carr's reasons why IT is a Commodity
IT, according to Carr, has become affordable to all and therefore, it has been a commodity. He
further argues that the use commodities do not lead to a completive advantage, and believes that IT
has become commoditized for the following reasons:
IT is highly replicable
The arrival of the internet has accelerated the its commoditization
IT is subject to rapid price deflation
I agree with Carr's assessment on the commoditization of IT to some degree. For instance, it makes
no sense for an organization to spend money in customizing a product when a similar product can be
bought at a relatively good price. Organizations no longer write their application, they simple buy
one that is available in the market (e,g. Microsoft Office).
I do not agree with Carr when he states that organizations such as IBM and Microsoft recognize this
trend and have position themselves as IT utilities companies as more companies replace customized
application with generic ones. That the internet has increased the commoditization of IT by
providing a perfect delivery channel for generic applications and more and more organization will
obtain their IT requirement by purchasing fee–based web services

The Quality Of A Balance Scorecard

  • 1. The Quality Of A Balance Scorecard A balance scorecard is an instrument managers use to gauge performance based on significant performance measures chosen by the manager. Each performance measure can be tailored to meet the specific needs of any organization. According to Cardinaels and Veen–Dirks, firms either have a list of measures or groups of measures separated into categories to evaluate performance. There are four common categories that are used to group and describe the different performance measures. The four categories are financial, customer, internal business, and learning and growth (Cardinaels & M.G. van Veen–Dirks, 2010). Cardinaels and Veen–Dirks said the financial category concentrates on financial data like sales margin percentages and sales growth per store. The customer perspective concentrates on repetitive sales and customer satisfaction. Internal business concentrates on returns to suppliers and the amount of orders completed. Learning and growth concentrates on the development of employees how happy employees are with their job. Customer, internal business, and learning and growth measures are considered to be non–financial measures (Cardinaels & M.G. van Veen–Dirks, 2010). According to Cardinaels and Veen–Dirks, placing performance measures into categories help the reader make decisions by being able to focus on individual areas rather than each individual measure to make an overall decision on the performance of the organization as a whole. • 3. Small And Medium Sized Enterprises I. Literature Review 1. Introduction Big Data has seen exponential growth in recent years due to the large volumes of social–networking data that is now being produced. While it may be easier for large enterprises to adopt the use of Big Data it is unclear if many small and medium sized enterprises are firstly aware of Big Data and its uses and secondly whether it will actually be beneficial to the business. The project will look at the use, or lack thereof, of Big Data in SMEs and provide a comparison when looking at larger enterprises. 2. An analysis of Big Data i. The Three Vs So what exactly is Big Data? This can be a point of contention amongst even those who work with big data all the time so the description that follows is only one of many. Big Data is best characterised by 3Vs: volume, variety and velocity. Volume refers to the extreme amounts of data, variety to the varying types of said data and velocity to the speed at which the data must be processed. Big Data does not actually refer to a specific quantity of data as many might assume by looking at the term but it is often used when speaking about massive volumes of data in the range of Exabyte's (Rouse, 2014), most of which cannot be integrated easily. ii. The additional Vs There can also be a fourth V (Vossen, 2014) which adds veracity to volume, variety and velocity to give 4V's. Veracity can be viewed to be the messiness of the data (thinking of things such as Tweets with hash tags, abbreviations, typos, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Disruptive Innovation: a New Era of Crowdsourced Data... Abstract: The existing business paradigm of data analytics is set for a transformation. Today, companies are experimenting to replicate the "Outsourced data analytics" model to "Crowdsourced data analytics". Companies like Kaggle, Crowdanalytix and others are hitting the headlines of top analytics blogs across the globe. The reason is that the new business model promises a drastic decrease in the cost of analytics for companies long with the flexibility to get the problem solved anytime with much less effort. In short, it's not just crowdsourcing that is the novelty of the concept, but the manner in which it is put to use that steals the show. Abstract: The existing business paradigm of data analytics is set for a transformation. Today, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SMEs generally abstain from such lavish expenditures and hence they always had to rely on their own intuitive decision making. They still don't have any robust mechanism to verify their assumptions because tools like market research and data analytics is not for them, they believe. Not anymore! Companies like Kaggle and Crowdanalytix provides them with such non–expensive and reliable platform for analytics that SMEs can now espouse structured decision making in free will. II. Analytics market: Now an open field The issue that small analytics consultants face today is that they are overshadowed by large consulting organizations. Small consultants include both individual consultants and small boutique consultants. These small consultants have to fight a stiff battle for every single project. Even if they win one, their margins are eaten up by their overboard sales efforts to grab one assignment. Hence, smaller consultants remain low on cash. The new crowdsouring model brings them a sigh of relief. Today, they don't have to bid for projects; they are up on the web. The consultant wins money not because of the size of his organization but solely on his competency. Second way these consultants earn bucks is by joining network of lead analysts as mentioned previously in the article. Hence, the new business model has opened the field and for the first time grass is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of Marriot International And Marketing Management According to Davenport (2006), an analytics competitor has the capabilities of gaining insight based on a consumer's consumption to better make business decisions while optimizing the business processes. Many top organizations such as Amazon, Capital One and even the Boston Red Sox have implemented programs that allow for their company to better determine the products and prices of products that appeal to consumers. These programs also provide companies with the power to determine how to market, based upon the consumer's fluctuating income and its influence over the rising and falling of demand and supply chains. While this process of collecting and processing data may be beneficial to the company, the data gathered should be collected in an ethical manner. (Davenport, 2006, p.99–100) As noted earlier, there are many organizations who have mastered the skill set of becoming an analytics competitor. Some companies have implemented the approach taken by Marriot International. Marriot International has not only mastered the revenue management, it has become one of the top analytics competitors because of its ability to efficiently use its Total Hotel Optimization program. The program allows for Marriot International to expand their quantitative expertise far beyond establishing room prices to allow for the program to be used in areas such as catering and conference facilities. Marriot International has also made these tools readily accessible via the internet; allowing for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Professional Objectives Program Discuss your professional objectives both short and long term. What has motivated you to apply to this program? My organization Penske Truck Leasing has been experiencing a sharp decline in the revenue generated from its full service leasing. Results of initial sales analysis concluded that the inflow of the new customers for full service leasing has been growing steadily; thus to increase revenue, the focus needs to be on the renewals for the existing customers. The company realizes that a lack of validated customer loyalty drivers prevents effective focus on customer retention and thus directly affects profitability. Challenges with data availability and business metrics have made attempts to measure and diagnose our service delivery and customer experience, both, difficult and inconclusive. In order to address this challenge, the organization has launched an initiative to build a customer analytics system that can achieve a single view of customer experience and make decisions about how best to acquire and retain customers, recognize high–value customers and proactively interact with them. I have been identified as the lead architect for the BI and analytics team that is going to implement this project. I am also privileged to be associated with an initiative that is directed towards human resource analytics that analyzes the performance and profitability that the work force brings to the organization. The aim of this project is to align core workforce business ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Businesses using this form to retrieve data will be able to harness the power of all data, no matter how many disparate data sources they have. Self–service extends to data prep Self–service data discovery has become the standard, while data prep has remained in the realm of IT and data experts. According to Paige Schaefer, statistics reflect that self–service will extend to data prep in 2017. Again, common data–prep tasks like JSON and HTML imports, data parsing, and data wrangling will no longer be delegated to data specialists. With new innovations in this transforming space, it is expected that everyone will be able to tackle these tasks as part of their analytics flow. Analytics are everywhere, thanks to embedded BI It is said that analytics works best when it's a natural part of people's workflow. In 2017, analytics will be embedded into applications people use every day, be it Salesforce or internal portals. This seamless integration will drive visibility and action on these analytics, often by people who've never explored data, like store clerks, call–center workers, and truck drivers. IT becomes the data hero IT is now breaking the monotonous cycle and evolving from producer to enabler. IT is at the rudder of the transformation to self–service analytics at scale. • 13. Essay on Assessing the View that Religious Language is... Assessing the View that Religious Language is Meaningless In recent times one of the most compelling and interesting arguments against God and religion has come from linguistic philosophy. In very basic terms the argument points out the fact that religion must necessarily use language in order to express abstract ideas such as God, love and so on, and in doing so commits a fallacy because as soon as such ideas are put into words they become meaningless. However, this is a rather large generalisation; the specific arguments go into a lot more detail and most vary in some way from this basic idea. Before we look at these arguments, though, I feel it is necessary to emphasise just how important an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethics, aesthetics and most importantly religious statements are all rendered void as they cannot be depicted, for example "Stealing is wrong" cannot be mentally depicted in the way that "I stole your pencil" can. This idea attracted several philosophers, including Moritz Schlick and Rudolf Carnap, who were working together in Vienna in the early part of the last century, and who expanded Wittgenstein's work. Their work involved looking at language to see what type of statements were meaningful or not, and they based their ideas on similar work in epistemology. There is a very powerful argument in this branch of philosophy that knowledge can only be gained through empirical experience. The logical positivists applied this idea to language, and came up with the verification principle. This idea, also put forward by A. J. Ayer, the main British exponent of logical positivism, is basically that only two types of statement are meaningful. The first is analytic statements (a priori), which are logical statements that justify themselves, for example "1 + 1 = 2" or "all bachelors are men." • 23. Strawson And Jean Donnellan Summary Donnellan, in "Reference and Definite Description," outlines two uses of definite descriptions. He argues that definite descriptions can either have an attributive or a referential use. While theories outlined by Strawson and Russell account for a single use, Donnellan advocates for both. To explain both the attributive and referential uses, I will review two examples. The first example, put forth by Donnellan, is for the statement "Smith's murderer is insane." There are two ways of interpreting this statement, based on whether the definite description attributes or refers. In one situation, the audience does not know who murdered Smith. If this is the case, then the speaker does not pick someone out. Instead, the speaker's statement uses the definite description attributively. Here, the definite description itself is what is most significant. Meanwhile, if someone, whom we will call Jones, has been accused of the murder, the use changes. When the speaker now makes the statement, the audience picks out Jones as the referent. The definite description has a referential use. It acts as a tool for picking out a particular one or thing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, when we say, "Smith's murderer is insane," the implication is not true. The consequences of this differ based on which use of description the speaker is employing. Under an attributive usage, there would be no person who we can truly attribute insanity to. Meanwhile, with a referential usage, the speaker could still successfully refer to Jones. However, the description, "insane murderer" would no longer fit Jones. At this point, 20% of the Hero team can dynamically use the analytics we currently offer. For example, 2015 was the first year that we, as an operations and sales team, had a dynamic forecasting plan. We took the top customers making up 80% of our annual revenue and projected out their volume by SKU, by month and kept a rolling 12 months of inventory planning based on each customer's growth objectives. Putting this plan together resulted in an out of stock liability improvement of 15% and actual sales were within 1% of budget projections. This project, a huge jump in our planning procedures, was completely facilitated by three people in our organization that employs over fifty people. The issues above directly tie in to the second pillar of Enterprise Wide Analytics. Although all departments have access to dynamic analytical systems, most have zero interest in utilizing it. The American (neo) pragmatism philosophy is a philosophical movement that was given systematic terms by Charles Sanders Peirce and William James and later taken up and revamped by John Dewey. Pragmatists stress the practical purpose of knowledge as a way for acclimatizing to reality and controlling it. Pragmatism concur with empiricism in its emphasis on the importance of experience over a priori reasoning. However the truth had customarily been discussed in terms of communication with reality or in terms of coherence pragmatism embraces that truth is to be sought in the process of verification. Pragmatists translates ideas as means and plans of action rather than as images of reality; more specifically, they are recommendations and anticipations of possible conduct, hypotheses or forecasts of what will result from a given action, or ways of organizing behavior(Answer,2010) Between the continental and the analytic philosophy, being the two most significant tendencies, barely any debate was taking place; this was due to the lack of knowledge, contempt, and mutual lack of attention. A Plea for a Peircean Turn in Analytic Philosophy Essay A Plea for a Peircean Turn in Analytic Philosophy ABSTRACT: Criticisms of analytic philosophy have increased in intensity in the last decade, denouncing specifically its closing in on itself, which results in barrenness and ignorance of real human problems. The thought of C. S. Peirce is proposed as a fruitful way of renewing the analytic tradition and obviating these criticisms. While this paper is largely a reflection on Hilary Putnam's study of the historical development of analytic philosophy, not only can some of its main roots be traced back to Peirce, but also the recent resurgence of pragmatism can be regarded as a pragmatist renovation of the analytic tradition. On the one hand, not only can some of the main roots of analytic philosophy be traced back to Peirce, but the recent resurgence of pragmatism (Bernstein, 1992) can also be regarded as a pragmatist renovation of analytic philosophy. On the other hand, Peirce's thought offers suggestions for tackling some of the most stubborn problems in contemporary philosophy, and in particular he may help us to shoulder once again the philosophical responsibility which has been largely abdicated by much of 20th century philosophy (Debrock, 1992: 1). In order to show this, my paper is divided in four sections: 1) A brief description of the decline of analytic philosophy; 2) the return of the history of philosophy as a key to its recovery; 3) Charles S. I don't think that's a coincidence. What needs to be done before a company can begin to compete on analytics? DAVENPORT: There are two major prerequisites. One is human, and the other is technical. The human prerequisite is that you need to have leaders who appreciate and understand what it means to compete on analytics, and want to do it. Second, having high‐quality, integrated, clean data is something of a prerequisite. One of the reasons that companies are interested in this right now is because they finally have access to all this data from ERP systems, Web reports, point‐ of‐sale systems and so on. Today the tools that SAS and others provide for integrating and cleaning data are better than ever before. From there, what are the stages of competing on analytics? DAVENPORT: I call stage one "analytically impaired," which means some fatal flaw is keeping the company from doing much with analytics at all. Either the executives just don't care or they have bad transaction data or they have lots and lots of data silos around the organization ‐ something major keeping them from doing this at all. • 43. Analytic Functionalism As A Philosophy Of The Mind Michael Lock Professor Davis PHIL 110000 28 April 2015 Analytic Functionalism as a Philosophy of the Mind In an attempt to bridge the gaps between the philosophy of behaviorism and the identity theory, I have determined that functionalism presents us with the best solution. Although there are several concerns to the methodic explanation of mental states, I believe that analytic functionalism is a credible model that describes the mind. Analytic functionalism establishes an ontological method that provides more acceptable ways to describe and characterize the mind. I will contend my point by first explaining the evolution into functionalism, specifically analytic functionalism. I will then explain one of the most prominent objections, the "Chinese Room" argument by John Searle. Beyond this argument, I will offer my rebuttals for these assertions and stipulate reasoning for analytical functionalism's rational reliability as a suitable philosophy of the mind. With the decline of behaviorism, the identity theory, or type physicalism, gained popularity within the philosophic community. J.J.C. Smart, also aiming to work reductively to shrink mental states to an uncomplicated classification, introduced the stance that identity theorists began to agree with. This was the theory that physical brain states could be simply equated with mental states. For example, the mental state of pain could be associated with the firing of the localized c–fibers region of the brain. What this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Russell On Denoting "On Denoting" and Definite Descriptions: Russell's Puzzle Solutions In his work, "On Denoting", Bertrand Russell proposes a theory of denoting and descriptions, which he summarizes as follows: Everything, nothing, and something, are not assumed to have any meaning in isolation, but a meaning is assigned to every proposition in which they occur. This is the principle of the theory of denoting I wish to advocate: that denoting phrases never have any meaning in themselves, but that every proposition in whose verbal expression they occur has a meaning. (480) Russell contends that the "difficulties concerning denoting are [...] all the result of a wrong analysis of propositions whose verbal expressions contain denoting phrases" (480). In ... That is, two identical entities can be used interchangeably in any statement without altering the truth–value of the statement in question. Russell then sets forth the proposition 'George VI wished to know whether Scott was the author of Waverly ' and concludes that, since Scott was in fact the author of Waverly, one can replace 'the author of Waverly ' with 'Scott ' and "thereby prove that George VI wished to know whether Scott was Scott" (485). Under the indiscernibility principle, both propositions are true since the terms 'the author of Waverly ' and 'Scott ' are identical and thus wholly substitutable for one another. However, while Russell finds the first proposition to be true ( 'George VI wished to know whether Scott was the author of Waverly '), Russell concludes that the second proposition, 'George VI wished to know whether Scott was Scott ', is false due to the fact that "an interest in the law of identity can hardly be attributed" to George VI (485). Analytical Aspirations In October of 2015, ETS began an effort to extrapolate more meaning from the data. The need for advanced analytics, and proactive solutions to problems became a central focus for the organization. Over 150,000 tickets were analyzed for textual similarities. Alerts that automatically generate tickets were a key finding, since each type of alert had similar ticket descriptions. Tickets were then categorized and grouped by the type of alert the ticket was representative of. As of 2016, ETS has successfully categorized over 200,000 incidents into over 80 distinct categories. ETS uses these categories to trend out tickets over time, and see what common issues impact applications, servers, network devices, and databases. For example, in January of 2016, it was identified that there was a sudden increase in alerts for low disk space on the C drives of servers running the Windows 2008 operating system. It was then decided to increase the amount of C drive space on the impacted servers. Their process was also updated to increase the amount of memory allocated to the C drive on new server builds. Bertrand Russell on Analytical Philsophy Essay example "The point of philosophy is to start with something so simple as not to seem worth stating, and to end with something so paradoxical that no one will believe it" – Bertrand Russell, The Philosophy of Logical Atomism. Bertrand Russell was born in 1872 in Wales, England as a member of a famous British family. He received a degree from Trinity Cambridge College with honors in Mathematics and Moral Sciences. His most famous works included the subjects of logic and philosophy, which were deeply rooted in his mathematics background. In fact, Russell is probably the most highly regarded and most read English–speaking philosopher of our time. Russell was not merely an intellectual, but also a political and social activist, writing many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Analysis of the Mind written in 1921 show the connections between Russell's views on the nature of the mind and how matter is altered in relation to it. Russell's key themes seem to be that of physical vs. psychological. In fact, Russell expands on the ideas that there is in fact no difference between the two and the only key difference is the perception given by the person trying to distinguish between the two. Russell sees the difference between physics and psychology only in the laws that bind them, or so he states in the opening while it seems this theory will be altered throughout his books. Consciousness is logically fundamental. Without it, how can there be anything observed or even thought about? We need consciousness to experience anything, including but not limited to, " sensations and images, memories, beliefs, and desires" . Consciousness is, in essence, the most important aspect of the mental state, but Russell does not agree, and says so in the following passage; " `Sensation, in the strict sense of the term, demands the existence of consciousness.' This statement, at first sight, is one to which we feel inclined to assent, but I believe we are mistaken if we do so." Russell actually holds to the idea that while consciousness is important, it is not necessary. Russell states that he believes we are not always aware of things that happen, and therefore consciousness is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Empiricism, Positivism, And Positivism Essay The Science is the idea that we need to understand and distinguish it from other kinds of investigation in the world. We also refer it as "empiricism", the scientific way we gain our knowledge from experience. Empiricism is also a view that all kinds of knowledge come from, not just scientific knowledge. Scientific thinking and investigation have the same basic pattern as everyday thinking and investigation. (Godfrey–Smith, 9) Again, we call it "empiricism" in terms of philosophical way, but in earliest form, the "empiricism" was referred as "logical positivism". Logical Positivism is a systematic reduction of all human knowledge to logical and scientific foundations. Thus, a statement is meaningful if it is either purely formal (essentially, mathematics and logic) or capable of empirical verification (Mastin,12) One of the most important American philosophers, W.V.O. Quine, creates the two dogmas of empiricism and logical positivism. The two dogmas that Quine attacked were the distinction between analytic and synthetic statements and the verification dogma of radical reductionism (Mattey,8) Quine discusses against both the dogmas, with two consequences: A blurring of the distinction between natural science and metaphysics and a turn toward pragmatism (Mattey,1) Although he made arguments on the dogmas of empiricism and logical positivism, Quine criticized on empiricism that the analytic and synthetic statements have definitions that are mere reports of the synonymy of ... Case Study : Data Global Delivery Services In this paper I am going to share my last company NTT DATA GLOBAL DELIVERY SERVICES LTD's tactics, strategies, operations and management and its usage of analytics in the global market to achieve its goals. In this competitive world, many of the former industry's strategic alternatives are no longer viable or likely to be successful. Today, there are few regulated monopolies, or companies with unique geographical access. Proprietary technologies are rapidly copied by competitors, and breakthrough innovation in either products or services is rare. Most of the competitive strategies organizations are employing today involve optimization of key business processes. Instead of serving all customers, they want to serve optimal customers– those with the highest level of profitability and lifetime value. Instead of receiving goods and services whenever they happen to arrive, they attempt to optimize supply chains to minimize disruptions and in– process inventory. Instead of looking backward at their business performance and making ex post facto adjustments, they seek to understand how optimum nonfinancial performance drives optimum financial performance, and to make accurate forecasts of future performance so they can react in advance of situations. Instead of throwing money at business problems, they seek to optimize their use of capital. But strategies involving optimization require something different than those based on taking business as it comes. The cost–effective and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Analytic Philosophy : Modality And The Iron Triangle Modality and the Iron Triangle Analytic philosophy had major influences on theories of meaning and the discussion of language. In this paper, I will discuss some of the most significant people in this period and analyze the success or lack of success for each theory in the period of analytic philosophy. The names of discussion are Bertrand Russell, Alfred Ayer, and Saul Kripke. While other influencers of analytic philosophy certainly exist, I will focus on these authors. Each writer was a founder of a movement of thought or a beginning step to change in analytic philosophy, so their theories have major consequences on the understanding on language and meaning. In particular, Russell was a major voice in the circles of descriptivism, Ayer was a logical empiricist, and Kripke focused on modality and possibility. Rather than describe each of these authors' views on their respective movements, I will focus on the consequences of their views on a particular model in the philosophical discussion of meaning: the iron triangle. This model is a description of meaning with three points based on knowledge, the method of learning that knowledge, and the possibility of that knowledge. In this paper, I will describe each philosopher's ideas on the iron triangle, Ayer's specific project on the model, and Kripke's subsequent challenges to Ayer. Firstly, Bertrand Russell's approach to meaning is descriptivist, and this theory is integral to Russell's understanding of the iron triangle. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consequently, it is imperative to successfully extract data from all relevant data sources that can provide answers to questions that companies set out to answer with BDA. One such source is data generated by social media (Schatten, Ševa, & Đurić, 2015). I would start my analysis with one of the many interesting quotes in the movie. "The problem we 're trying to solve is that there are rich teams and there are poor teams, then there 's 50 feet of crap, and then there 's us. It 's an unfair game. And now we 've been gutted. We have just started using them so that we can compete with the "top dogs" of the bank data processors. I believe that if we didn't use analytics one of the big competitors would come in and try to buy out the company. We are looking into ways to help use analytics so that we can strengthen our position in the service and show that we can handle any size community bank. We have created a Business Intelligence department to look into ways that we can improve products, forecast what a bank may buy when signing a contract, and to see how to pitch our regulatory compliance products to other companies to help them with their compliance. We are competing pretty well with the top 3 processors. We have been told that when they hear we are negotiating to sign the same customer as them, they get worried. They know we have a rock solid pitch and use analytics to back up our numbers along with testimonials from other customers how our products have help them compete with the non– community banks, retain customers, and bring in the younger generation with the use of technology. Without analytics, I feel that we would not be able to offer the banks what they need and sell our other products to help them maintain the needed guidelines that keep changing. Infrastructural Technology Proprietary technologies vs. Infrastructural technology Proprietary technologies can be owned, actively and effectively, at times by a single company. For instance, a pharmaceutical holding a patent on a particular compound that is the basis for a drug is an example of proprietary technologies. Infrastructural technology on the other hand provides more value when shared rather than used by a single organization. For instance, it makes no sense for an organization to spend money in customizing a product when a similar product can be bought at a relatively good price. Organizations no longer write their application, they simple buy one that is available in the market (e,g. Microsoft Office). I do not agree with Carr when he states that organizations such as IBM and Microsoft recognize this trend and have position themselves as IT utilities companies as more companies replace customized application with generic ones. That the internet has increased the commoditization of IT by providing a perfect delivery channel for generic applications and more and more organization will obtain their IT requirement by purchasing fee–based web services ...
